Google Nexus One photos confirm Android 2.1 & T-Mobile support

The tubes through which the internet flow were bursting with Google Nexus One speculation this weekend, with the prospect of an “official” Google Phone driving many Android geeks to madness. A leaked photo over the weekend confirmed that the Nexus One appeared to be based on the same HTC device we knew as the HTC Dream, and now Engadget have come up with a few new images themselves. The Nexus One in their shots is devoid of HTC logos and runs Android 2.1.

According to their source, the Google Nexus One has more homescreen panes on offer and new 3D elements to the app tray, while an overnight firmware update now adds the handset name to the device’s status page. Google have also added a webOS-style card preview of open applications, rather than the current dumb app switcher, and both Google Maps Navigation and Google Goggles are preinstalled.

The supplied documentation, meanwhile, points to a questions page at google.com/phone/support, not currently active, while the photos show both T-Mobile as the carrier currently in use and WiFi as being active. Apparently the tape on the back of the handset is covering a QR code. Speculation is currently leaning toward this being a developers’ device, in the same manner as the Google Dev Phone 1 and the Google Ion, offering Android coders higher-specification hardware to keep up with the latest range of devices using the platform.

More - HTC-made Google Nexus One certified by FCC

The “Google phone,” HTC’s Nexus One, was approved this morning by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission as model number PB99100.

The trio of filings (first, second, third) confirm a few technical details, such as microSD expansion, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

The report also raises new questions about the device’s potential carrier landing spot, with support for quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with UMTS/HSUPA on 850/1700/1900 frequencies.

Translation: Hello T-Mobile, and perhaps AT&T, too.

“It’s considered a great honor to be painted by Mitch. He is a highly respected nude painter and is painting as number of subjects for a new exhibition next year. He is delighted Keira decided to take part.”

Lindsay Lohan Selling Her Old Clothes Online

Going once...

Lindsay Lohan is selling her old clothes on her family's Web site, LohanHouse.com.

Among the items up for grabs: A $35 Zac Posen top and $275 Frye cowboy boots.

Lohan's autographed MyScene Goes Hollywood figurine -- complete with a director's chair, high heels and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star -- will set you back $150.

No word if items from her first collection for Emanuel Ungaro -- which was dubbed "a disaster" by the designer -- will wind up for sale.

On Sunday, Lohan returned to the U.S. after a four-day trip to India to film a BBC documentary about the trafficking of women and children.

During her trip, Lohan visited hospitals, as well as the Sanlaap women's and children's shelter outside Calcutta, which houses young women and girls who were victims of trafficking and other forms of exploitation.

On her Twitter page, Lohan posted that her visit was "the most amazing time of my life. Focusing on celebrities and lies is so disconcerting, when we can be changing the world one child at a time.... hope everyone can see that."

Joe Chen Qiao En's contract with J-Stars

Chen Qiao En, who is called the first sister of idol dramas, seems to be confirmed leaving J-Stars when her contract expires. Sources said that this is mainly because Sun De Rong favors male artistes. Not only did he froze her in the past, he never asked for her opinions when accepting acting jobs for her and even once got her to act in a docu-drama. Now that she has become popular in China, some Chinese fans even dig up her "suffering" look in FTV's <<Woman Is Flower>>, giving rise to hot discussions on the internet.

Five years ago, Chen Qiao En was still a minor artiste and acted in minor roles in dramas like <<Lavender>> and <<My MVP Valentine>>. Sun De Rong even accepted a role in FTV's <<Woman Is Flower>> for her. This causes Chen Qiao En, who started out acting in idol dramas, to be unhappy but unable to do anything about it. She can only tell others that it's a "society drama" and that she is trying to win over the housewives market.

Chen Qiao En cemented her status as first sister of idol dramas with her dramas like <<Prince Turned To Frog>> and <<Fated To Love You>>. She has no lack of offers in dramas and endorsements. This year she earned around 34 million and is currently filming <<Lan Se Jia Qi>> in China.

The contracts of many artistes under J-Stars are due to expire soon. Other than beloved captains Tony Sun and Zax Wang who are highly likely to renew their contracts; regarding the rest Sun De Rong seems to be mentally prepared and said "Come if able to work together, leave otherwise". Recently he promotes his last boy band "Magic 3+1" which consists of 3 boys who likes magic and said that he will create another miracle after 5566.

MySpace Continues To Get Trashed Over Imeem Shutdown

It’s been nearly a week since MySpace Music closed its acquisition of some of the assets of music service Imeem and redirected imeem.com to music.myspace.com. MySpace took a lot of heat for the sudden shutdown of the Imeem service, particularly the API.

But the fact is that MySpace didn’t shut the Imeem service down. Imeem’s creditors and the music labels did. If MySpace hadn’t done the deal Imeem would have shut down anyway. The company was just out of cash and options, and the wheels had come off the car. For the most part the press now gets that MySpace had very little to do with the shutdown, and has settled down.

Imeem’s 16 million monthly visitors apparently haven’t gotten the message, though, and every couple of minutes one of them fires off a frustrated message on Twitter. One example just a few minutes ago, in the image above: “Imeem, one of the best music sites, died, destroyed by MySpace.” Another: “RIP imeem, I will dearly miss you…All the more reason to hate myspace. They sold out on Dec. 8th.” Users are particularly upset about losing their playlists, something MySpace has said they’d work hard to transition “as quickly as possible.”

It’s not exactly the warms hug MySpace probably thought they’d receive when they stepped in and saved as much of the Imeem service as they could. And with the benefit of hindsight some basic communication to Imeem users other than the shock of a redirect to MySpace Music might have been a good idea. Like an email to users telling them what was happening, for example.

But the result is the same. The demise of Imeem had nothing to do with MySpace, and whatever parts of the service do live on will only do so because MySpace stepped in to buy some of Imeem’s assets. The hard part, of course, is getting that message to those 16 million pissed off users.

Apple Reportedly Delaying Shipments of 27-Inch iMacs

Shipments of Apple's new iMac with the 27-inch display are reportedly being delayed following reports of problems with the screens, including flickering screens and yellow-tinged displays.

Apple is said to be delaying shipments of the product to resellers by as much as two weeks because of the problems. Apple just unveiled the new line of iMacs, including models that use the 27-inch LED-backlit display, on Oct. 20.

The models are available in either dual-core or quad-core formats and use the AMD ATI Radeon HD 4670 or 4850 model graphics cards.

Apple is replacing the graphics card on the 27-inch iMacs, according to a Web site blog, Apple iMac (Fall 2009) Issues, set up to collect information about the problems.

Other Web sites, including Apple Insider, have posted reports of customers receiving the new iMacs with cracked screens with the damage occurring most often in the lower left corner.

Apple has said little about the display problems. Sunday CNET posted a story saying an Apple spokesperson had apologized for the shipping delays, without commenting on the reason behind the delays.

Vodafone drops HTC HD2 from general customer line

The HTC HD2 was one of the handset to launch in the last few months from HTC that was able to generate lots of buzz. The handset landed on Vodafone on November 12 free with certain plans. The future of the HD2 on the Vodafone network seems murky now.

A Vodafone official has stated that the stocks of the HTC HD2 are now depleted and that the handset will not be stocked again for the general consumer. Presumably, that general consumer caveat means that the business user can still get the phone, but that it unclear.

IBTimes reports that a company source told it that the HD2 was removed from the general consumer line because the smartphone was facing software glitches that harmed the user experience. Vodafone competitors O2 and T-Mobile are still selling the HD2. Perhaps Vodafone is just clearing the way for the iPhone a bit.

'The Princess and the Frog' ascends to No. 1 Box Office

Sorry, hands. CGI is still king.

The old-fashioned Princess and the Frog grossed an old-fashioned $25 million Friday-Sunday, per estimates, a take more line with Disney's last, decade-old princess movie than its last computer-literate Pixar production.

Still, Princess rallied as the weekend rolled on, and reigned in the box-office standings, unseating Sandra Bullock's still-strong The Blind Side ($15.5 million), and blocking the Clint Eastwood-Matt Damon rugby-powered drama, Invictus ($9.1 million).

Drilling down into the numbers to document the fall of New Moon, and the rise of Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones:

• Princess and the Frog did what it was expected to do, and, given its okay, $7 million Friday, even more. The overall gross, however, was more Mulan ($22.7 million—back in 1998) than Up ($68.1 million last May), or even the CGI-live-action hybrid, G-Force ($31.7 million last July).

• The Blind Side, last weekend's champ, fell to No. 2, but basically held ground in ticket sales. After four weekends, the Bullock drama has taken in $150.2 million.

• New Moon slid two places, from second to fourth, and continued to see Twilight fever cool. Still, the monster love story is now the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year, and, at $267.4 million overall and counting, it should overtake The Hangover for fourth place.

• You don't quibble over Eastwood's box-office stats (his smallest wide-release opening since Blood Work, etc.). You stand there in awe that he keeps putting up box-office stats worth quibbling over. And you point out that the $60 million movie is probably going to play on through Oscar season, Damon's short shorts or no.

• It looks like Brothers ($5 million, down nearly 50 percent from last weekend; $17.4 million overall) won't be the next first smash war hit of the war-torn 2000s.

• In the battle of the Oscar-buzz movies, Jackson's The Lovely Bones grossed $116,000 at three theaters, while the Mad Men-evoking A Single Man made $216,328 at nine theaters. The final score: Bones, which got buzz-killing reviews, actually, unlike A Single Man, made more money, per theater, than any film reporting grosses.

• George Clooney's Up in the Air ($2.5 million) got closer to the Top 10, despite still playing at fewer than 100 theaters.

• In its third weekend, Zac Efron's Me and Orson Welles ($176,192) got nowhere near the Top 10, despite playing at only eight fewer theaters than Up in the Air.

• The Princess and the Frog would like to point out that, CGI or no, Planet 51 (2.3 million) was bounced from the Top 10 after three weekends, and after only $37.2 million overall.

• Also out of the Top 10, and after just one weekend: Robert De Niro's Everybody's Fine ($2.2 million; $7.4 million overall).

Here's a look at the weekend's top-grossing films based on Friday-Sunday estimates as compiled by Exhibitor Relations:

The Princess and the Frog, $25 million
The Blind Side, $15.5 million
Invictus, $9.1 million
The Twilight Saga: New Moon, $8 million
Disney's A Christmas Carol, $6.9 million
Brothers, $5 million
2012, $4.4 million
Old Dogs, $4.396 million
Armored, $3.5 million
Ninja Assassin, $2.7 million
