How John Mayer Almost Derailed Katy Perry-Russell Brand Romance

Can you picture a Katy Perry-John Mayer wedding? Neither can we. But "Payer" was well on its way to making sweet music together when Russell Brand intercepted her at the 2009 VMAs and snagged the "I Kissed a Girl" singer for himself.

We know they're blissfully married now. And we know they fell in love at first sight at the awards show. But it's what happened the very night before that could have thrown the entire meeting off...

See, Perry and Mayer met the previous evening at Gold Bar in New York, after weeks of exchanging flirty tweets and texts.

"They'd never met in person, and she went to meet him there after she was at a Jay-Z concert at Madison Square Garden," a source close to Mayer tells E! News.

Mayer had joined Jay-Z at MSG for a performance and afterward asked fellow showgoer Perry to meet up later that night.

Taylor Swift takes on a bully (and John Mayer?) on new album

After showing some remorse (and apologizing to Taylor Lautner?) on the track “Back to December,” the latest song from Taylor Swift’s upcoming album Speak Now to hit iTunes, “Mean,” has her once again the wronged party. As she explains in this video preview, “There’s constructive criticism, there’s professional criticism, and then there’s just being mean. And there’s a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person… This happens no matter what you do, no matter how old you are, no matter what your job is, no matter what your place is in life, there’s always gonna be someone who’s just mean to you. And dealing with that is all that you can control, how you handle it. This song is about how I handle it.” The track’s bluegrass vibe (banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and harmonies) is a nice touch: It brings a sincerity to her pain and lets you focus on the words, which do, near the end, turn cheeky (proving she handles it with a sense of humor): “But all you are is mean/All you are is mean/And a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life/And mean, and mean, and mean, and mean.” The song also seems at least partly directed toward people who’ve questioned her singing ability. “And I can see you years from now in a bar/Talking over a football game/With that same big loud opinion but nobody’s listening/Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things/Drunk and grumbling on about how I can’t sing.” (Okay, that wasn’t exactly veiled.)

Another track, “Dear John,” which has yet to hit iTunes, is also making headlines. Writing for Our Country, the Y! Music Country Blog, EW contributor Chris Willman is confident that the track confirms her rumored relationship and breakup with John Mayer. He points to the first chorus: ”Dear John/I see it all now that you’re gone/Don’t you think I was too young/To be messed with/The girl in the dress/Cried the whole way home/I should’ve known.” And a second version of the chorus that includes the lines: “It was wrong/Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/To be played/By your dark, twisted games/When I loved you so.” He also notes these lyrics: “My mother accused me of losing my mind/But I swore I was fine…” and “You’ll add my name to your long list of traitors who don’t understand/And I’ll look back in regret I ignored what they said/’Run as fast as you can’.” Just reading those, you understand why Willman claims we’ll be cheering when Swift sings, “I’m shining like fireworks over your sad, empty town.” It’s nice to see someone turn the tables on Mr. Overshare, isn’t it? Who else can’t wait to hear that track? (Willman says it’s six and a half minutes long.)

John Mayer Swears Off Women (You Know, Until Next Week)

Serial womanizer and world-class douchebag John Mayer has reportedly decided to take a hiatus from his favortie pasttime — bedding blondes, brunettes, and all other (White) women with a pulse — following the fallout from his controversial interview with Playboy earlier this year.

Mayer, 32, has bedpost notches attributable to actresses Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Love Hewitt, but is choosing to lie low after putting his foot in it by blabbing about Jessica “Sexual Napalm” Simpson’s lady parts and making a number of racist (and generally douchey) remarks in a March interview with the men’s mag.

Tattling tipsters tell Us Magazine that the public outcry over the article, mixed with poor sales of his album, have convinced the singer to step out of the limelight for a while.

John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston "Are Not Dating Again"

Tabloid rumors swirled this week that John Mayer is back on with Jennifer Aniston.

But during his concert Tuesday in Irvine, Calif., he took time out to set the record straight, MTV reports.

"I'm completely single!" he told the crowd.

Then, in typical Mayer style, he launched a TMI rant about his love life.

Mayer, 32, told the crowd he has a morning ritual of watching naughty Internet videos. (A specific brunette has been his latest obsession.)

Sniped the singer, "That is the dirty truth."

As for those Aniston reports, an insider tells UsMagazine.com: "John is still friends with Jen, but they are not dating again. She was not at the Hollywood Bowl show he played, but it would not mean anything if she were. They remain friends but are definitely not back together."

Mayer's rep does not comment on his personal life.

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer: Back on Again?

Jennifer Aniston’s controversial comments about single parenting and use of the word retard on live TV have both raised eyebrows in recent weeks.

She's been criticized by Bill O'Reilly and countless others over the two incidents. Well, it's time to focus on more important matters - her love life!

Despite claims earlier this week the actress is dating a wealthy European banker, Britain’s Daily Mirror says Aniston has hooked back up with ...

... wait for it ...

... that douchebag John Mayer! Again!

“John invited Jen to come out and meet him while he was in Manhattan,” a source told the tabloid. “He told her he wanted to see her and even paid for a private jet to fly her from LA. They spent hours in his suite at the Four Seasons."

We know what that means. No one goes to John Mayer's suite for conversation. But will Jen fall for his tricks, only to be burned by him again? “Jen’s been hurt by him before and isn’t prepared to go public with the relationship just yet.”

This news comes amid reports of Jen meeting with a surrogate.

“Jennifer has spent the last few months discreetly looking into the technicalities,” a source said. "She has been holding private meetings with prospective women."

"We think she’s narrowed it down to her final two."

John Mayer Predicts Deadpool For Twitter

“I just think Twitter as a form of communication, I think it’s over to be honest with you.”

That was musician John Mayer during an onstage interview in Hollywood recently.

Mayer has had an interesting history on Twitter. A year ago, there were reports that Mayer and his girlfriend, actress Jennifer Aniston, broke up because he was more interested in tweeting than hanging out with her. Then, this past December, Mayer decided that he needed a break from Twitter (and other social networking services) with his one week “Digital Cleanse.” But he came back, and has since then gained some 500,000 new followers, pushing him past 3.2 million, and making him one of the most followed people on the service (he’s only about 500,000 followers behind President Obama).

His personal Tumblr blog is also called One Forty Plus, clearly in reference to Twitter’s character limitation.

Jessica Simpson: I "Don't Accept" John Mayer's Apology

Jessica Simpson is forgetting, but not forgiving, her ex John Mayer.

During her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show airing Wednesday, Simpson, 29, says that she tried to read the controversial Playboy interview in which he called her "sexual napalm" and compared her to crack cocaine.

"I tried to read the article, and I was so disappointed in him," she tells Oprah Winfrey. "It made me so sad, and it was really discouraging because that's not the John that I knew...I hope he gets his life together."

The singer confirms reports that he reached out to her in the aftermath. "He did apologize. I don't accept it. It's just one of those things that...I don't resent him. I'm just going to let that go. That part of my life is over."

The star of VH1's new reality show The Price of Beauty (debuting March 13) also opens up about the ongoing scrutiny regarding her weight.

Ke$ha to John Mayer: Where's Your Dick At?

Give John Mayer credit: he's no longer insulting homosexuals and African-Americans.

Now, take that credit away: the douchebag is still talking and Tweeting like a moron.

In his latest attempt to be hip, Mayer left a couple Twitter message for Ke$ha. Referencing her smash single "Tik Tok," he wrote over the weekend:

Dear Ke$ha, you won me over with your tricks and charms and I must tell you I really like your song.

Though I must add I tried brushing my teeth with a bottle of Jack and I chipped a tooth on the glass. Where might I remit an invoice?

We'll give you a few moments to stop laughing at this positively hilarious joke...

Jessica Simpson Opens Up About John Mayer's Sex Talk

Jessica Simpson is finally opening up about John Mayer's raunchy Playboy mag comments.

"I don't want people to know how I am in bed!" Simpson, 29, laments in an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show to air Wednesday.

Mayer likened his ex girlfriend -- whom he split from in 2007 after about a year of dating -- to "crack cocaine" and "sexual napalm" in the March issue of the lad mag. He later apologized for being "an a--hole."

Simpson also admitted she struggles with criticism of her weight.

"It's a really hard thing for me to talk about," the clearly upset reality star (her show, The Price of Beauty, debuts March 15 on VH1) tells Oprah.

"You were a size 4 and people were calling you fat?" the talk show host, 56, says in disbelief, referring to infamous mom jeans Simpson wore to a chili cook off in January 2009.

John Mayer Not a Racist, Just a Guy Who Says Stupid Things

John Mayer is in a bit of trouble. The guitarist used the N-word in an interview with Playboy and is now trying to recover from what could be a costly mistake.

"Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?' And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n**** pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, 'I can't really have a hood pass' I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We're full.'" he said. After the article came out, Mayer frantically apologized on his Twitter account.

"Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged," he tweeted.

But is Mayer really racist? Or just a fool who shoots his mouth off too much?

At a concert, Mayer offered his apologies again for using the racial slur. "I went as I've begun to do, into a wormhole of selfishness and greed and arrogance, thinking that if I just continued to be witty and pull together the most fast phrases that I could, that I could be clever enough to buy myself another day without thinking that anybody had finally pinned me down and said, 'you're a creep.'"

John Mayer Breaks Down Onstage Over Playboy Debacle

Tonight, John Mayer couldn't help but say what he needed to say.

The Grammy winner, whose Twitter page is at this moment largely occupied by a detailed apology for using the N-word during his already graphically informative sit-down for Playboy's March issue, broke down Wednesday during the "Gravity" portion of his show in Nashville.

Near the end of the concert, he stopped playing, apologizing to his bandmates for the interruption.

Get the audio of Mayer's breakdown after the jump.

"I quit the media game. I'm out. I'm done," a choked-up Mayer told the audience at the Sommet Center, according to exclusive footage obtained by E! News. "I just want to play my guitar."

Then, after a lengthy pause, he returned to his guitar solo.

His onstage sentiment resembled his last tweet from the day: "I just wanted to play the guitar for people. Everything else just sort of popped up and I improvised, and kept doubling down on it..."

As he had just reminded Twitter user "adilla": "They don't make rehab centers for being an a-hole."

John Mayer Apologizes for Using Racial Slur

After igniting a firestorm over sexual and racial remarks he made in a Playboy interview, John Mayer issued an apology on his Twitter page Wednesday – for some of his comments.

"Re: using the 'N' word in an interview, I am sorry," he Tweeted. "I should have never said the word and I will never say it again."

Mayer used the slur when discussing whether he's accepted by rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye West as one of their own.

"Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?,' " Mayer told Playboy. "If you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n---- pass But I said, 'I can't really have a hood pass. I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We’re full.' "

The remark didn't wash with his 3 million Twitter followers, who were unusually silent Wednesday. "They don't make rehab centers for being an a-hole," one wrote.

John Mayer: Jessica Simpson Was "Crazy" in Bed

John Mayer is kissing and telling -- again.

UsMagazine has an exclusive peek at Playboy's March issue, where the singer, 32, dishes on everything from his past relationships with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston to his dream mate.

He dubs 29-year-old Simpson (whom he dated from 2006 to 2007) "a drug."

"And drugs aren't good for you if you do lots of them," he says, adding, "Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me."

"Sexually it was crazy. That's all I'll say," he continues. "It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, 'I want to quit my life and just f*****' snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f*** you, I would start selling all my s*** just to keep f****** you.'"

He didn't share bedroom details about Aniston, who turns 41 Thursday.

NOOOO! John Mayer Allegedly Brags About Taylor Swift Hook-Up

We pray this isn't so...

According to In Touch Weekly, John Mayer and Taylor Swift - it pains us to even write these words - hooked up in late January. At least that's what the douchebag of male singer told a friend.

It's already been confirmed that the pair met for dinner in Nashville. But an insider tells the tabloid they got extra cozy in a recording studio there.

“She was sitting on John’s lap, her arms were around him, and she was talking in his ear,” said the source. “They were acting like teenagers.”

Well, Taylor is only 20 years old. Yet another reason (aside from how much cooler she is) for Mayer to keeps his hands off her.

Mayer and Swift dined that evening at the restaurant Cabana and were joined by pals afterward. From there, the magazine alleges, they went back The Hermitage Hotel alone, where they were privately escorted to John’s suite.

John Mayer ‘Brags About Hooking up With Taylor Swift’

JOHN Mayer has told pals he hooked up with Taylor Swift when they were both in Nashville, Tenn., on January 24.

Life & Style magazine claims the couple — Taylor, 20, and John, 32 — met up several times, in public and private, and were first seen getting cozy in a recording studio.

“She was sitting on John’s lap, her arms were around him, and she was talking in his ear,” revealed a source.

“They were acting like teenagers.”

On the same night, the duo reportedly dined at the restaurant Cabana and were joined by friends afterward. They left alone and went back to The Hermitage Hotel, where they arrived in the loading dock to avoid being spotted and were escorted to John’

“Taylor spent the night and enjoyed mid-morning room service before leaving his suite the next day,” said the source.

Sources Say Taylor Swift and John Mayer Are 'Definitely' Something

John Mayer is known for dating beautiful women -- and clearly doesn't discriminate on their ages. The 32-year-old rocker, who was previously involved with 40-year-old Jennifer Aniston, is now rumored to be dating Taylor Swift, 20.

"Taylor and John are absolutely more than 'just friends,'" a source tells Hollywoodlife

"They aren't 'boyfriend and girlfriend' or anything as provincial as that, but they have taken their friendship to the next level," the source adds.

Rumors about the pair have been floating around for a few weeks. And the Grammy-winning Swift doesn't mind.

"I try not to be a complainer, you know?" she told Usmagazine about the reports.

John Mayer: "I'm the A--hole" for Breaking Up With Jennifer Aniston

John Mayer isn't proud of the way things ended with Jennifer Aniston.

"I've never really gotten over it," he tells the latest issue of Rolling Stone. "It was one of the worst times of my life."

The singer, 32, first got cozy with the actress, 40, in April 2008 after spending five sexy days together in Miami, but went on to split twice -- most recently last January, in which he held an impromptu press conference with paparazzi outside his NYC gym to, as he hints, take the blame for the breakup with America's sweetheart.

"I'm the asshole," he says. "I burned the American flag. I basically murdered an ideal."

Instead of moving on, Mayer -- who also famously romanced the perpetually single Jessica Simpson -- says he's stuck on the ones he's already dated.

"All I want to do now is f--- the girls I’ve already f---ed, because I can’t fathom explaining myself to somebody who can’t believe I’d be interested in them," he says about his frustration with dating non-celebrities. "I’m too freaked out to meet anybody else."

Jen Aniston & John Mayer Are Back On...Magazine Covers

The world simply cannot go on if Jennifer Aniston is single.

Since she's not really dating her Bounty costar Gerard Butler anymore—was she ever?—it's time to assume the 40-year-old is ready to go backwards and rekindle her romance with John Mayer.

If the new cover of OK! magazine is to be believed, she's confirmed "He's Mine!" and they're totally back to being "full-time lovers." And she got the 32-year-old "Who Says" singer back by doing exactly what any dating guru (or six-year-old) would advise: by playing hard to get.

The mag even claims the two are plotting a baby, because what would a Jen Aniston story be without the pitter-patter of tiny feet?

Revelations of the reunion of the crooner and the cougar aren't new. People and Us have quoted sources calling them "great friends," but reported recent hotel stays in the same breath.
