HTC Smart BREW smartphone targets budget buyers

HTC say their new, Qualcomm BREW-based HTC Smart offers a new, smartphone experience to the masses, and while we reckon the masses are doing a pretty decent job on their own รค press release is still pretty light on specifications – we’re waiting to hear back from HTC for full details – but since it looks to be the same device as we knew as the Touch.B we’re guessing it’ll have the same specifications.

hat means 3G and Bluetooth, though no WiFi, together with a 2-megapixel camera that shoots stills but not video. There’s also – joy! – a dedicated camera shortcut on the side. Other hardware controls are minimal, with a volume rocker on the left-hand side and then end, back and call/power keys up front. There’s also what looks like a small, silver button just below the screen; that could be an aesthetic detail or it might be a home key.

HTC say the Smart will be available this coming Spring, across Europe and Asia, though while they tell us the handset will be competitively priced they don’t actually reveal what that price might be. Any of the specs could have changed since we saw the leaked prototypes, too, so we’ll update as soon as we know more.

The HTC Smart has a 300MHz processor with 256MB each of RAM and ROM, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 2100MHz HSDPA/WCDMA and quadband GSM/EDGE. There’s also a 3-megapixel fixed-focus camera with LED flashlight, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot and a 1,000 mAh battery good for up to 450 minutes GSM talktime or 450hrs GSM standby. SIze is a compact 104 x 55 x 12.8 mm while weight is 108g. Full spec sheet is in the gallery below.

Light Blue Optics' Light Touch turns any surface into a color touchscreen display (video)

Ever heard of a small company called Light Blue Optics? Probably not. But it's companies like LBO that make events like CES truly worthwhile. Tucked away in a small suite overshadowed by the million dollar spreads owned by industry giants like Samsung and Sony is a tiny startup looking to attract the attention of OEMs with its full-color holographic laser projection technology. The Windows CE-powered Light Touch represents the company's very first effort to create an interactive projector that allows users to interact with the displayed image as they would a modern touchscreen display. Despite our skepticism, we came away suitably surprised -- impressed even. Granted, our hands-on was performed in a lowly-lit room on par with the lighting you might find in a fine restaurant. Still, the 15 lumens were effective at lighting videos and the touch sensitivity was far more accurate than we expected -- so good that we were quickly typing out phrases on the QWERTY with few mistakes (admittedly taking a reasonable amount of care to strike the right "key"). The projector only supports single-touch at the moment though multi-touch is just a software tweak away. See the video after the break and prepare to be suitably amazed at watching a laser projector create a touchscreen display.

Taylor Swift Gives Ex Taylor Lautner Standing Ovation at Awards Show

Taylor Swift has no hard feelings for ex Taylor Lautner.

Although the two never crossed paths at the People's Choice Awards at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre Wednesday night, it seems they were already on the road to friendship.

When the New Moon star, 17, scored an award for Favorite Breakout Actor, the country singer, 20, and her mother Andrea graciously stood up to give him a standing ovation.

The two Taylors split in late December after three months of dating, Us Weekly first reported.

"It wasn't really developing into anything, and wasn't going to, so they decided they were better as friends," a source close to Swift told Us at the time. "There was no chemistry."

Swift also took home a statue for Favorite Female Artist.

"What a beautiful, beautiful way to start out a new decade," Swift said while accepting her award. "I want to thank the fans. You're the ones who choose which songs on the radio you want to turn up and blast from your car speakers. And you're the ones who choose which concerts you want to go see. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing to give me this award. This is my first People's Choice Award. Thank you so much."

Fashion magazine VOGUE used 3 days to find 10 individuals with extreme charisma and style to become the cover of January's issue, ignoring the ranking and also the unusual one day shoot, the front cover only revealed Ethan Ruan, Mark Zhou and Godfrey Tsao in a descending order.

Godfrey Tsao (Left), Ethan Ruan, Mark Zhao, Huang Jian Wei, Eddie Peng, Liang Zheng Qun, Joseph Chang, Wang Bo Jie, Mok Tze Yee and Chien-Chou Chen (Charles) made it onto the top ten list of VOGUE's most stylish men.

Charles (from Blackie) most charitable

In VOGUE's top ten stylish men, Ethan Ruan who got first place was dressed up the most glamorous, wearing a Ferragamo fur coat, but at his lowest point in his life he also went through a period of time when he had nothing, he said life can at anytime start a new beginning ,this can lead to experience of success or suffering but it won't become a burden as you advance.

Charles from "Blackie" is probably the most unusual celebrity to make it on the list, but he is the most active at charity work, he said charity is not something to compare or to pressurize, "to share, doesn't necessarily have to be money, sometimes just listening, listening to what people around you have to say is actually one form of charity."

Samsung Bada S8200 and Galaxy2 to match Nexus One’s specs

Samsung Bada S8200 and Samsung Galaxy2 are two of Samsung’s upcoming smartphones that will reportedly be on par with Google’s Nexus One and its features – so says Eldar Murtazin from Mobile-review.

Knowing this, we should expect the handsets to have 3.7 inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen displays, 1GHz Snapdragon processors, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 5MP autofocus cameras.

Of course, the main difference between the S8200 and Galaxy2 will be their OSs: Bada OS for the S8200, and Android for the Galaxy2.

The S8200 is likely to be Samsung’s first handset based on its Bada OS, and it should cost €400 (about $575).

As for the Samsung Galaxy2, this will be a bit more expensive: €450 ($645).

Toshiba Qosmio X505 gets Core i5'd

As if it wasn't enough to unleash seven new mainstream laptops, Toshiba's updating its 18.4-inch Qosmio X505 desktop replacement with new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The chassis is unchanged and continues to be a beast of a laptop with Harmon Kardon speakers and a wide 1920 x 1080-resolution display. The rest is all based on what configurtion you choose, but its safe to assume the starting at $1,199.99 model will have the lower end Intel Core i5-430M processor and a 320GB hard drive option. From there on up it will have options for NVIDIA GTS 360M graphics, an 64GB SSD and up to 6GB of RAM. Basically, the Qosmio just continues to be one mother of a rig. Hit the break for full specs.

“Avatar” Fastest-Pirated Movie In History

Avatar has been named the fastest-bootlegged movie of all time!

James Cameron’s sci-fi blockbuster was illegally downloaded 500,000 times during its initial two days of release, building to 900,000 over the first week, according to Torrent Freak. Avatar has even surpassed the previous pirated record-holder, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which is believed to have been downloaded 610,000 times during its first week in theaters.

According to Variety, Avatar has raked in more than $1 billion at the international box office since its release on Dec. 19. The total makes it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (third place), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (second place), and Titanic — which earned $2 billion after its release in 1997.

Am I the only person left on the Planet who hasn’t seen this movie?

Megan Fox Vinegar Diet Slammed By Experts

That Megan Fox just can’t catch a break: The Transformers star — who only last week was voted the “Sexiest Worst Actress of 2009″ — has been blasted by health experts for hailing the benefits of swigging vinegar. Dieticians have warned weight loss junkies against taking advice from the simple-minded stunner.

“It just cleanses out your system entirely…It will get rid of … for women who retain water weight from your menstrual cycle and all that … it gets rid of it really fast,” Megan recently revealed when quizzed about how she keeps her famous body in tip-top shape. “I’m not one for dieting or exercising, because I’m lazy and I have a really big sweet tooth, so I have to do cleanses every once in a while ’cause of the amount of sugar I take in.”

However, experts have pooh-poohed Megan’s claims as rubbish, insisting there is not a single form of vinegar in existence that will help dieters lose weight.

“As attractive as it sounds, there is no magic pill, lotion or potion for a quick fix to weight loss,” dietician Lucy Jones explained in a interview with The Sun this week. “The body, including the liver, is a well-oiled detoxing machine, which will not be improved by vinegar, whether it be organic, apple cider, unfiltered, or your bog-standard malt vinegar.”
