Samsung makes Galaxy Tab official

It looks like our friends over at Samsung have officially outed their much hyped Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet device. The Galaxy Tab will pack a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps / HSDPA 7.2 Mbps radio (900, 1900, 2100 MHz), quad-band GSM, 7-inch WSVGA screen with multitouch, Android 2.2, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, DLNA, Flash 10.1, 4,000 mAh battery, 3 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, full HD video playback at 1080p, microSD card slot with support for up to a 32 GB card, and the unit will weigh 380 grams (13.4 ounces). Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is quite a spec sheet (although the 3 megapixel camera seems a bit sheepish compared to the rest of the device). The closing line of the press release states that, “The Samsung GALAXY Tab will be launched in Europe in mid September, and in other markets including Korea, the US and Asia in coming months;” no word yet on pricing. Let us know your thoughts on the official Galaxy Tab in the comments.

Michael Bay Puts Out $50,000 Bounty for Puppy-Throwing Girl

The search for the viral puppy-throwing girl sweeping the web just got nuclear. She pissed off Michael Bay.

Last night, Gawker reported that the director of the 'Transformers' franchise announced on his website's blog he's offering a $50,000 reward for the arrest of the mysterious girl shown throwing defenseless puppies into a river in a YouTube video.

The following was posted, but was later deleted:

"There is a disturbing video going around the news outlets. It'd a video of a blonde woman in a red sweatshirt casually tossing casually tossing squealing puppies into the fast-moving river one by one."

"Michael Bay has informed me that he is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the woman in the red sweatshirt and the person who shot this act of cruelty," according to Michael Bay's website.

PETA has also offered a $2,000 reward for the arrest of the anonymous villain in the red sweatshirt.

Lady Gaga Dresses as (Nearly Naked) Statue of Liberty

Lady Gaga becomes Lady Liberty!

For the "New York Issue" of fashion mag V, the pop superstar puts her edgy spin on one of America's -- and NYC's -- most iconic symbols.

With designer Marc Jacobs close by, the 24-year-old singer has long, blonde hair sculpted into the Statue of Liberty's famous crown; wearing a bra, panties, draped fabric falling off her waist, she holds a burning paper torch.

The star (real name: Stefani Germanotta) was born and raised in the Big Apple.

Explains V editor Stephen Gan of the pic, snapped by photographer Mario Testino: "Just as the Statue of Liberty was France's gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York's greatest gift to pop culture and fashion...she has become a bonafide genius and we can safely declare her our muse."

On Its Second Birthday, Google Chrome Officially Hits Version 6

Ever since it became stable enough to use on a day-to-day basis on a Mac last year, Google Chrome has been my browser of choice. Other browsers have been adding some nice features — but Chrome keeps adding them faster. And today on its second birthday, that rate of change isn’t slowing down.

Google has officially rolled out Chrome 6 as the latest stable version of the browser today. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone using the dev or beta builds of the browser, but it’s nonetheless an important mark as it means it’s stable enough for mass consumption.

Remember that it was just two years ago when Google surprised the world by announcing a new browser (a little early) via a comic. The next day, we got the first shots of what the browser would look like — and it was released as a beta for Windows users. It actually looks pretty much the same today, but it’s now much, much faster (and when it launched it was already faster than most browsers out there).

Google says that Chrome today is a full three times faster when it comes to JavaScript performance versus Chrome circa 2008. The rapid speed increases have also undoubtedly pushed rival browsers to become faster, so we’ve all benefited.

Samsung Fascinate arriving in Verizon stores, early September launch seems a given

Lest all the paper-based leaks weren't sufficient evidence for you, we've now got ourselves an insider at one of Verizon's brick-and-mortar outlets informing us that Fascinate launch kits are being distributed. VZW is said to be training up its staff (presumably that involves more than just pointing out where the above puzzle piece should go) and the whole thing's looking "right on track" for the mooted early September launch. So that basically gives us about a week's time to kill with 21:9 HDTVs, 3D prototypes, slinky tablets, and whatever else we can find at IFA. We might just be able to manage it.

BGR got some pics Samsung Fascinate poses with DROID X below

The unreleased Samsung Fascinate continues to make appearances in the wild. This time, it can be seen posing for several cameos with its Verizon friend — and fellow member of the Android No-Keyboard Club – the DROID X. We’re still hearing that the Fascinate is due for release in the September 8 – 10 timeframe and the the device will also be available for Verizon’s prepaid, pay-as-you-go plans. We’ve got several more images after the break.

Verizon Begins Offering Unlimited Data in Prepaid Fashion, 3G Smartphones Included

Prepaid services have been around for awhile, but for the longest time they were never good enough to catch the attention of the average consumer. After all, there’s a lot hanging on that contract-free plan. You not only miss out on minutes, but it used to be that you didn’t even get the same reception as the customers who signed a contract. Furthermore, you had to buy the phone out-right, without that discounted price tag. Well, while you still have to buy the phone out-right, prepaid plans have certainly become more popular, and Verizon has just made it even more attractive with the announcement that unlimited prepaid plans are now available. Oh, and you can use a Droid X, too.

Straight to the point, beginning today Verizon has pulled the curtain off their brand new unlimited monthly prepaid data packages. What they are also doing, is offering up their full line-up of devices at the same time. Meaning, you’re not longer tied to getting some flip-phone that no one wants. Now you can show off that brand new Droid Incredible, Droid 2, or Droid X (amongst others) while you still rock a contract-free life.

More Microsoft codenames than you can shake a stick at

The latest update to my Microsoft Codename Tracker chart is done and ready for download.

This PDF is the same chart I use myself to keep up with the many, morphing codenames of products and technologies coming from Microsoft. The tracker is free and downloadable from the ZDNet site. If you’ve already registered on ZDNet, just grab it. If you haven’t, registration info will be requested before you download it. Whether you’re a Microsoft customer, partner, analyst, competitor (or even employee), you might find it useful.

This month’s version includes a number of brand-new entries in the high-end server space — including MFx, Dryad, Nectar, Orleans, Quincy and TidyFS. There are also updates throughout on Microsoft’s various consumer-focused products and projects, too.

If there’s a codename missing from my chart that you’d like me to check out and ultimately add, please don’t hesitate to contact me via e-mail. All e-mails I receive are treated as confidential — unless you want a mention/credit line, of course.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to get posts from “All About Microsoft” in e-mail form (hourly, daily or weekly), you can subscribe here. And if you are all about Twitter, you can follow me there, as well.

Angelina Jolie turns down role in 3D movie

ANGELINA Jolie has turned down the chance to star in 3D film Gravity.

The actress — who raises six children with beau Brad Pitt — rejected two offers from Warner Bros., according to to Deadline Hollywood.

The studio has also approached actresses Sandra Bullock, Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Watts.

Robert Downey Jr. is already attached to play a team leader stuck in outer space in the sci-fi adventure, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who is expected to start filming in 2011.

Angelina would have played the team leader’s female colleague, who is desperate to return home to her child.

Jolie — who is set to make her directorial debut this autumn with a love story that takes place in 1990s Bosnia, and has written the script for the film — is said to be considering new projects such as collaborating with Tim Burton on Maleficent, playing the title role in Cleopatra and portraying top medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in the big-screen adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling novels.

Robert Randolph Spills on "Secret Gay Life" of John Travolta

It's been a difficult couple years for John Travolta.

Last January, his 16-year old son died of a fatal seizure. Then, a few months later, the actor was forced to relive this tragedy under oath, as he testified against the awful human beings who tried to extort him in exchange for covering up information about the incident.

In May, though, Travolta and wife Kelly Preston were thrilled to learn they were expecting a baby - but now that exciting news has been tempered by a report in The National Enquirer.

The tabloid quotes Robert Randolph in its latest issue, some author who is set release a book about the "underground secret world of celebrity gay spa sex." Just what we all need, right?

He says Travolta is living a "secret gay life" and Randolph claims to have even spotted John with another man in October 2009. He explains:

"I met John in 1998, after he had married Kelly. I believe the marriage is a total fraud because John is totally into guys and has been having sex with them behind Kelly's back for years. He came on to me a number of times. I always turned him down. But there was always some guy who was willing to have sex with him. And John didn't stop cheating on Kelly after either of their children was born. John's a cheating dog."
