Rumer’s Same-Sex Storyline

Things are heating up this winter for Rumer Willis on 90210. Her character, Gia, is going to get a girlfriend in January.

“This isn’t a fling,” 90210’s executive producer Rebecca Sinclair tells Entertainment Weekly. “We’re coming at this [relationship] from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting … And there’s been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters.”

So who will Gia fall for? Teen mom Adrianna, played by Jessica Lowndes.

“I’ve never kissed a girl before so it’s a little nerve-racking,” Lowndes says in the mag.

Did Michael Jackson's This Is It Hit…or Miss?

No, Michael Jackson wasn't Batman or Miley Cyrus. But more important, he wasn't the Jonas Brothers.

Jackson's This Is It scored a $7.4 million opening day, Sony Pictures estimated today.

Among concert films, the take puts This Is It right behind the eye-popping opening day of Cyrus' Best of Both Worlds show and safely ahead of the Jonas' expectations-game loser, The 3D Concert Experience.

Comparisons between the three movies are far from perfect, not the least of which is because neither the Cyrus or Jonas Brothers film starred the world's biggest pop star in his final farewell.

So, given those high standards, how did This Is It measure up?

"This is kind of in line with what I thought," said Hollywood.com box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Which is another way of saying Dergarabedian didn't think This Is It, despite dominant advance-ticket sales, was ever going to be the musical version of Titanic. Much less The Dark Knight.

"You're not going to get a $40 million opening day. It's not going to be Dark Knight," Dergarabedian said. "It's not a genre movie."

Overall, This Is It grossed $20.1 million worldwide Wednesday, putting its studio already one-third the way home to covering its $60 million investment in the rehearsal footage of the late Jackson's never-to-be London concerts.

The studio was said to be expecting a strong weekend—although Dergarabedian doubted This Is It would have a Cyrus-big, $30 million weekend—and a strong overall run.

Right now, that run is only slated to last two weeks. But Hollywood tends to be flexible on such deadlines. As long as your film is more Cyrus than Jonas Brothers.

Brown Eyed Girls’ Sign MV

Brown Eyed Girls teased us with their eerie teaser for their new song, Sign. After that, they revealed the song and now the official music video is out!

The girls definitely took a risk by filming with no stunt doubles in the water chambers. They did the scenes all by themselves and took on the dangerous task of going underwater for long periods of time.

People have also been paying attention to Narsha's short hair as well as the other members' new styles.

The repackaged album also consists of a ballad song titled, Drunk on Sleep.

Microsoft cleans up bugs after biggest patch release

After releasing its largest-ever group of security patches two weeks ago, Microsoft has done a little cleaning up.

Over the past few days, the company has re-released two security updates and issued a workaround for a Windows CryptoAPI patch that caused Microsoft's own instant-messaging server to crash.

"This is the patch month that will not die," said Susan Bradley, chief technology officer with Tamiyasu, Smith, Horn and Braun, an accountancy. She added that the Communicator issue was "a big one to miss," because Microsoft is usually careful about testing its security updates with its own products.

Scott Turner, network systems administrator with the Public Health Institute in Sacramento, California, noticed the bug immediately after installing Microsoft's updates. "We deployed the patch," he said. "When I came in the next day, nobody could connect" to Communicator.

According to a support article on Microsoft's Web site, the MS09-056 update disables several services that Communications Server needs in order to operate. The bug affects Live Communications Server 2005, Office Communications Server 2007 and evaluation versions of Office Communicator 2007.

Microsoft has released a workaround for the problem, but Turner hasn't yet been able to try it out. He's had to disable the MS09-056 update in the meantime to get his company's Communicator users up and running.

Another buggy patch fixed over the past few days was the MS09-043 Office update, first released back in August. This was apparently misconfigured so that customers who use Microsoft update tools such as Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) were given bad scan results. Customers who use Microsoft's tools may believe they're fully patched, when in fact they're not due to this bug, said Eric Schultze, an independent security consultant.

Those customers should re-run their update tools to be sure that they're patched, he added.

The issue affects customers who are running the Microsoft Office Access Runtime 2003, but not any Office products, a Microsoft spokesman said via e-mail. "Essentially, the security update installer detection logic was updated to include an uncommon scenario, where a customer only installed the Microsoft Office Access Runtime 2003 without fully installing the Office 2003 suite or other individual Office 2003 products. Those who are running in this scenario should apply the re-released bulletin immediately.”

Microsoft said it also corrected some "detection entries" and "file and registry key verification information" in an update to the MS09-062 patch, released Wednesday.

What Jessica Simpson Wants in a Man

When it comes to finding the right man, Jessica Simpson wants it all.

The singer, who has been somewhat unlucky in love, tells Extra, "I definitely love a spiritual man – somebody that is going to always inspire me."

Simpson, who split from football player Tony Romo in July and who also had a on-again, off-again romance with Hollywood ladies' man John Mayer, doesn't stop there.

"I don't want to get bored," says Simpson, 29. "I can bore out pretty easily, so I love intellectual men ... people that will always keep me intrigued."

And what else? "I love artistic men – somebody that really understands their art," says Simpson, who was once married to Nick Lachey. Adds the star, "I like a confident man."

Simpson has been traveling the world working on her upcoming VH1 program, The Price of Beauty, and says the travels have been a growing experience for her. "I couldn't have had this journey at a better time in my life, to seek out beauty, to seek out confidence and to seek out the power of a woman," she says. "It really is about who I am and what I want to become, and what's going to make the best version of myself."

He was discharged from hospital on Monday after being given a clean bill of health.

HK actor Frankie Lam’s roving eye

It appears that Hong Kong actor Frankie Lam is back to his old ways again.

While filming a drama series in China, the actor was spotted flirting with a young attractive lady while his pregnant wife, actress Kenix Kwok, was back home in Hong Kong.

Lam even instructed his assistant to serve him and his unknown lady friend.

Apparently, Lam has not learnt from an earlier scandal which almost wrecked his marriage. In May, a Hong Kong tabloid published excerpts of recorded phone conversations between a couple whose voices resembled that of Lam and Kwok.

In one of those clips, the man admitted to having cheated on his wife with Chinese actress Dong Wei Jia.

Lam's former agent reportedly held him ransom over the incident and threatened to expose his cheating ways.

Lam and Kwok later called for a press conference where they turned up hand-in-hand to quash rumours about their rocky marriage.

The couple dated for ten years before tying the knot in 2005. Kwok, who is five months pregnant with a girl, is scheduled to deliver in February.
