Zero Calories, Zero Clothes: Ashley Greene stripped down to her birthday suit for a new campaign with SoBe Lifewater. The actress — best known for her appearances in the Twilight films — agreed to have a special skinsuit painted onto her body as she modeled in the ad promoting the beverage company’s new zero calorie flavors, Cherimoya Punch and Strawberry Dragonfruit.
The colorful designs featuring amphibian scales were painted directly onto Ashley’s by makeup artist Joanne Gair. The body mask took an insane 12 hours to apply!
“Being a part of the SoBe skinsuit shoot in the Turks and Caicos was amazing. It took the artist 12 hours to paint the SoBe scales on each skinsuit, but it was totally worth it. It’s an experience I’ll never forget,” the 22-year-old gushes.
Photos from the shoot will debut in the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

HTC Smart

At a glance, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that HTC would be devoting time, money, and energy to moving downmarket into the dog-eat-dog world of dumbphones -- but after chatting a bit with the company today, we've got a slightly better sense for why the Smart exists: it's a stepping stone, not a final destination. It's promoting the Qualcomm Brew MP-powered device as a way to get folks who would otherwise buy... say, a Samsung Corby, and use it to get them interested in (and locked into) the Sense UI, which looks surprisingly similar here to what you'd find on anything else HTC makes. The Smart's screen animations are pleasantly fast and you've got basically all the stuff you'd expect to find on a basic new-in-box smartphone including full HTML browsing and support for Twitter, email, and so on. The 2.8-inch resistive display seemed totally usable to us; clearly, a full QWERTY keyboard won't be terribly comfortable on any 2.8-inch screen, but it ain't bad. In a word, we're impressed -- we wouldn't buy it (and we suspect you wouldn't either), but it's definitely got a valid target demo.

With a worldwide tally of $1.13 billion and counting, James Cameron’s Avatar became the second-highest worldwide grosser of all time on Wednesday, according to Box Office Mojo. Avatar passed Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning epic The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which grossed $1.12 billion during its run. Now the world’s top two highest-grossing films (when not adjusted for inflation) are both James Cameron pictures. The top spot, of course, belongs to the director’s 1997 film Titanic, which earned $1.84 billion. Time will only tell whether Avatar will be able to challenge Titanic’s title as the box-office king of the world.

LG GW990

You'll know this device as the 4.8-inch revolutionary intent on making us fall madly in love with MIDs all over again (or should that be for the first time?). Good thing then that we now know it as the device that bears a thousand Engadget fingerprints. The Moorestown-powered GW990 from LG has finally become official and we have to say it is exactly the huge slab you might imagine it to be. In terms of specs, it comes with 16GB of built in flash memory and 512MB RAM, and 720p output is possible if the 1020 x 480 screen resolution isn't enough for you. Chunky, sturdy and curved in all the right places, it's an appealing device even if it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Powered by Moblin and primarily marketed as a 3G device, we were told by LG that -- behind the 1,850mAh battery and alongside the MicroSD expansion slot -- your SIM can make a home, and some such AT&T appendages have already been spotted inside this... smartphone? The UI at present is just a standard S-class layered on top of Moblin, giving us no cause for excitement, but we were reassured that LG will be offering many other OS options when the device shows up in the second half of this year.

HP's Envy lineup was introduced way back in the dark ages of last decade, so it's clearly due for a significant update. In all seriousness, the refresh that popped up today for both rigs probably has a lot more to do with Intel's Arrandale unveiling than anything else, but whatever the case, we'll take it. The Envy 15 now starts at just $1,299.99 (down from $1,699.99), and it includes Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), a 2.4GHz Core i5-520M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and a downright delicious 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830. The 13-incher has seen its base price lowered by $300 to just $1,499.99, with specs now including a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SL9300, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 (512MB) and a 4-cell battery. Both models can be customized right now, but you should probably wait 'til CES concludes before making any rash decisions about the here and now.
