Let the battle begin: Black Eyed Peas star Fergie turns claw-handed gladiator at World Cup opening concert

With the world's football teams poised to thrash it out on the pitch, Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie set the battlefield tone as she emerged in a gladiator-style outfit for the official World Cup kick-off concert.

The 35-year-old poured her figure into a leg-baring black, gold and silver number, complete with bejewelled breast plates and structured shoulder and hip panels.

Teaming her look with an Edward Scissorhands-inspired claw hand, the brunette looked like she meant business as the Black Eyed Peas rocked Orlando Stadium in South Africa tonight in front of thousands of excitable revellers.

Fergie was joined on stage by her bandmates Will.I.Am, who wore a Phantom of the Opera-like mask and vocalists Apl.De.Ap and Taboo.

Other stars on the bill included Shakira, who perform the closing set at the event.

She sang some of her most well known tracks, including The Hips Don't Lie, before getting stuck in to the finale song Waka Waka (This Time For Africa), the official World Cup anthem.

Miley Cyrus: I Hate That People Think I'm "on Drugs"

Despite what her song might imply, Miley Cyrus really can be tamed.

"If I'm ever seen out dancing at a club having fun, I don’t want people to immediately go, 'Oh, she's on drugs, she's drunk," Cyrus, 17, said Thursday on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show. "I'm never going to be that person. As long as I steer clear of that and keep that mind frame, I think I'll be cool."

Still, she admitted that when she's of legal age, she won't exactly be a teetotaler.

"I'm not gonna be like, 'I'll never have a drink in my entire life,' because that’s probably going to be a lie," she admitted. "There's a right way to do so -- everything is good in small portions."

Miley -- whose parents also abstain from drinking -- also cited her collaborator, Bret Michaels, for inspiring her to steer clear of alcohol and drugs.

"Having him in my life and him telling me some of stories and some of the dumb crap that happens...he just makes me never want to do that stuff," Cyrus said.

Analyst predicts T-Mobile iPhone

Analyst’s get to have all the fun. Their pure conjecture goes places. But, if it wasn’t interesting, even if it’s just an after-thought in your day, then they probably wouldn’t get the coverage. You get to be the judge whether or not they’re interesting because of the content itself, or how ridiculous it may be from time to time. Apple’s intention of deploying the iPhone onto other carriers may be a complete mystery to all the official channels (except to Steve Jobs, of course), but that’s not stopping the rumor mill from spewing out even more possibilities. This time around, and not for the first time, we get T-Mobile USA being the first-round pick for distribution outside of AT&T.

We have to admit that we’re pretty excited just in the fact that we’re not reiterating another Verizon/iPhone rumor. It’s time to change things up! According to Shaw Wu, an analyst for Kaufman Bros., he believes that the iPhone is coming to T-Mobile before any other carrier in the United States. He’s getting his information from “sources,” and they say that the iPhone’s inexorable appearance on other carriers is “closer than reality than ever.” (Yes, that’s the quote.) The sources also suggest that an announcement to that effect could be released by the Fall of this year, or early next.

New song suspected of being for Jolin Tsai, Jay Chou says people online think too much

On the 9th Jay Chou premiered MV for the Flower Expo song "Long Time No See" at the Taipei Arena and it is rumoured that he wrote this song for Jolin Tsai. The lyrics "Long time no see, how have you been, has your dog grown up...hurry up and come back to my side", people online indicate this is his feeling of wanting to get back with Jolin Tsai! He said: "People online think too much."

In order to film the MV, he ran around the whole of Taipei getting famous locations. Yesterday he was awarded "the key to the city". Taipei mayor Hao Long Bin said that he can now film anywhere he wants in Taipei without restriction. He even welcomed Jay Chou to get shots at his house, the condition being that he or his son has to be extras.

He invited the Flower Expo robot which cost TW$12 million to make to be in his MV, but the robot got temperamental with him. He said: "When it's rainy he goes on strike, I have to listen to him even if I'm the director." It's so rare for him to dance in the MV. He said, dancing is not his strong point, but he's working hard to learn a new dance for his concert on the 11th.

'A-Team' and 'Karate Kid': Can two 1980s reboots save this weekend's box office?

It will a nostalgia-fest at the box office this weekend, and Hollywood is hoping moviegoers will yearn to relive the decade of big hair and acid-wash jeans. Audiences over 30 are going to feel like they’ve headed back in time as soon as they open up their weekend newspapers to check showtimes — even if both The A-Team reboot and The Karate Kid remake are not set in the 1980s. (And yes, only people over 30 actually still get weekend newspapers.) Anyway, it’s up to these two reboots to, well, reboot a summer that has been trending far behind last year’s and those preceding it. Hollywood is hopeful both films can redeem the box office, but both still have some stiff competition. The two new releases need to post higher numbers than those produced by The Hangover‘s second weekend in release last year and Up’s third weekend, which generated $30 million. If they can do so, then Hollywood will finally have an weekend that dominates one from last summer.

Read on for my predictions.

'Breaking Dawn' To Be Released As Two Films

Part 1 of the final chapter is set for release on November 18, 2011.

Confirming what many have speculated for months, Summit Entertainment officially announced Thursday (June 10) that "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" will be released as two separate films. The first of the two films is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 18, 2011. The release date for the second film was not announced.

With one major question answered, a few others have been raised. Specifically, where will the filmmakers choose to end the first film and begin the second? Will either film jump on the increasingly popular 3-D bandwagon?

Google Kills Its Homepage Background Image Experiment Early

Last night, Google decided to temporarily abandon the principles behind its famously spartan homepage in favor of something a little different: a background image, which has been a design element present on rival search engine Bing since it launched. Users predictably went nuts as their clean, bare homepages suddenly featured flowery hippo things and other colorful photographs. Countless tweets have complained about the images, and our story last night racked up over 200 comments. “Remove google background” is currently the fifth highest trending topic on Google.

Now Google has apparently decided that imposing a background image on users wasn’t such a good idea after all, and they’ve turned off their experiment around ten hours early according to a tweet from Marrisa Mayer, Google’s Vice President of Search Product and User Experience. Users that visit the Google homepage are now shown the normal design, along with a link that says “Curious about today’s homepage? Add your own background image now”.

Motorola’s Droid 2 gets outed

Well look what we have here. It’s the Motorola Droid 2 live (sorta) and in the flesh, and looking more or less identical to the original Droid save for its updated keypad (thank heavens!) and more rounded edges. The specs, as Droid Life understands it, include an updated keypad, 3.7″ display, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi tethering, 8GB internal memory, pre-installed 8GB microSD card, updated version of MOTOBLUR (ninjaBLUR?) and a 750MHz OMAP 3 processor. HDMI out and a front-facing camera won’t be included with the Droid 2. Sadly the Droid 2 was seen running Eclair instead of Froyo, but if it’s any consolation — and we’re not sure it is– the Droid 2 has a newer, less intrusive version of MOTOBLUR (ninjaBLUR?) Wanna see more of the Droid 2? Then hit up the jump to check out a couple of pics and a video of the boot up screen, then head on over to Droid Life for more.

Is Taeyang’s solo comeback just around the corner?

We can’t make any promises, but that’s certainly what it looks like – rumor has it that Big Bang’s quiet hottie Taeyang just might be returning to the stage for his solo return very soon!

Recently, one of our readers tweet-asked Sean, the second half of YG Entertainment’s hip hop duo Jinusean, when Taeyang would be making his return, and the performer gave a brief answer that should get fans tittering with excitement. The conversation really speaks for itself:

Barbie Hsu cuts her eye while trimming her bangs

Barbie Hsu is a hands-on beauty queen and best-selling author on all things about looking pretty. But even the queen has an epic fail sometimes, as she cut her eye while trimming her bangs a few days ago.

The Summer's Desire actress wrote on her blog that she was treated at a nearby hospital, to which her doctor confirmed it was only a slight cut. She was given an eye drop as well as a medicated cream, and said she felt better after resting for one day. Barbie Hsu expressed through her manager, “Thank you for everyone’s concern. I’m fine. It’s just that my eye is tearing continuously. I look quite pitiful."
