ASUS prices 10-inch Android Eee Pad under $399, 8-inch Eee Tablet at $300, other tablets too

ASUS just dumped Windows Embedded Compact 7 for Android for its lower-end tablet devices, and CEO Jerry Shen is passing along the savings. He's pledging that the 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC, due to ship in March, will cost under $399 -- and if the Notion Ink Adam is any indication that means it'll be $398. Then there's the EP121, a 12-inch tablet running Windows 7 that's positioned rather higher up in the market, as indicated by its $1,000 price tag. Shen says this high cost is due to that docking station able to intriguingly transform it into a laptop when it ships around December or January. Next is yet another Eee Pad due around January, one that will run Windows Embedded Compact 7 on a 10-inch screen and at a price somewhere south of $499. Finally, there's the grayscale Eee Tablet e-reader thing, formerly rumored to be under $599 but now priced at a solid $300 and, supposedly, shipping in October. Surely we're mere months away from tablet saturation at this point.

Jay Chou is true to his word, yesterday night he really did attend the premiere of "Love In Disguise" to support Leehom Wang! But because he had a full schedule plus he had to run all over the place, Director Chou didn't make it on time to the venue, he made Leehom Wang and the media wait for 10 minutes.

The premiere went on until 7pm, the guests that attended took turns to cheer for Leehom Wang onstage. These included Harlem Yu, Mavis Fan, Doze Niu, May Chan, Dong Zhi Cheng and Mayday's Ashin, Monster, Masa and more, it really shows off Leehom Wang's good EQ in the arts circle. But after all the guests had taken their turns, Jay Chou was still no where to be seen, the presenter announced a "rest", Jay Chou arrived after 10 minutes.

Before Jay Chou once issued "retirement talk", he reiterated: "When I'm no longer accepted by the market I'll retire." Leehom Wang tried to give Jay Chou confidence: "This is not something that's going to happen!" But when reporters threw in the question: "Do you see him as a competitor?" Leehom Wang and Jay Chou stayed silent; the situation was a bit awkward.

Raymond Lam gives Joey Yung a kiss on the hand

Yesterday Raymond Lam and Joey Yung arrived in Guangzhou to attend the The Jade and the Pearl major press conference. Raymond excitedly expressed that the movie started playing in Chengdu the day before and has set two records, including highest box office for a single showtime and highest ticket sale record.

In the movie, Joey has a crush on Raymond, yesterday the producer Ng Yue exposed that she wanted to add kiss scenes to "benefit herself", Joey immediately refuted: "Ng Yue is nicknamed 'Ng Sui' (Sui= Water) and is only good at 'water blowing'. On stage, Raymond was still requested to give Joey a kiss, the two were half willing and unwilling, Raymond only kissed Joey's hand.

Yesterday Raymond appeared at the theater and attracted many fans to support him, the 600 seats at the theater were full. As the two fans who were chosen to go on stage to ask Raymond questions appeared out of control. When fan #1 saw her idol she was completely speechless and was only able to let out gasp sounds. Fan #2 charged up on stage and asked to take a photo with Raymond, it was a very lively and funny scene.

HTC September 15th smartphone launch could be Android or WP7

HTC has scheduled a press event for mid-September, presumably to launch their latest smartphone. The invite – which features a wisp of smoke covering what looks to be the faint outline of a handset – makes no reference to whether the launch is from HTC’s Windows Phone 7 or Android divisions, leaving us in the dark as to the exact identity of the device.

Of course, we do know two likely candidates. The HTC Desire HD has previously been tipped for a September unveil, basically bringing the EVO 4g to Europe only without the WiMAX connectivity. However more recently we’ve seen the HTC Schubert and HTC Mozart, two Windows Phone 7 devices; a mid-September debut could fit in well with Microsoft’s own plans to release the new smartphone OS in October in Europe.

Coincidentally, the HTC event is taking place on the second day of Nokia World 2010, also being held in London. However we can’t imagine HTC are planning to unveil their first Symbian^3 handset.

Kara DioGuardi Found Out She Was Fired From Newspaper

How did Kara DioGuardi find out she was fired from American Idol?

"She read it the way you did and I did," her dad, Republican senate candidate Joe DioGuardi, tells Capital Tonight (via The Hollywood Reporter). "Would you believe she did not hear -- and still has not heard -- anything?"

Fox has yet to confirm publicly the judge switchup, but multiple outlets began reporting the news on July 30.

Joe goes on, "Her disappointment is that that's the way she's being treated and she feels that's not proper. I think they're trying to create a lot of buzz... they're trying to reformat the thing."

Jennifer Lopez, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Jessica Simpson have all been rumored replacements for DioGuardi and Simon Cowell, who is leaving to launch the X-Factor in the U.S. See the top 10 celebrity bands.

Joe doesn't think his daughter, who has written songs for Britney Spears and Pink, will suffer career-wise.

"Kara has a very deep career in music. She'll be fine," Joe says. "Would she want to do it another year? I think so... I think at some point [she] will confront them on that."

Samsung Windows Phone 7 prototype spotted in wild

Better bring an umbrella if you're going out, because the Windows Phone 7 hardware leaks are really starting to rain down. We've so far peeked pre-release handsets from ASUS, HTC (twice), and LG, and now Samsung is pitching in with what looks like a device fated to dance on retail shelves. Details are, as usual, scarce on the ground, but the angular aesthetics suggest it isn't the AT&T-bound Cetus that recently graced the FCC. Taken together with the physical separation of the Windows-branded Start key, however, they do rather resemble what we've seen on ASUS' hardware, which might suggest that there is some undercurrent of cohesive body design that Microsoft is pushing out to its hardware partners. Or maybe we're just grasping at straws to kill the time until this OS finally launches. One more pic after the break.

HTC ROMs tip Lexikon and Bee Android phones incoming

Two new HTC smartphones have apparently been detailed, according to 911HTC’s work digging through the company’s ROMs. The HTC Lexikon and HTC Bee both run Android 2.2 Froyo, with the former having a 3.8-inch WVGA display and QWERTY keyboard, and the latter getting a smaller 3.2-inch QVGA display. According to 911HTC, the Bee is headed to Verizon among other smaller CDMA carriers.

Both handsets have a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, but the Lexikon has a faster 800MHz Qualcomm processor while the Bee gets a slower 528MHz chip like the original Hero. Each handset will run HTC Sense.

Jennifer Aniston Shoots Back at Bill O'Reilly Over Motherhood Comments

Jennifer Aniston has a few choice words for Bill O'Reilly, who criticized her recent comments about single motherhood.

"Of course, the ideal scenario for parenting is obviously two parents of a mature age. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on earth," Aniston tells PEOPLE exclusively. "And, of course, many women dream of finding Prince Charming (with fatherly instincts), but for those who've not yet found their Bill O'Reilly, I'm just glad science has provided a few other options."

Aniston, who is currently starring in The Switch, a film about a woman who gets pregnant using a sperm donor, told reporters recently that women no longer have to wait for the perfect guy to start a family.

"Women are realizing it more and more, knowing that they don't have to settle with a man just to have that child," the actress told reporters. "Love is love and family is what is around you and who is in your immediate sphere."

'The Expendables' likely to dominate over 'Eat Pray Love'

It’s the battle of the sexes this weekend, and the outcome is not likely to inspire any feminists, as Sylvester Stallone’s action hero mash-up The Expendables is set to rule over Julia Roberts’ year-long trek in Eat Pray Love. As for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, it seems the young males this movie is targeting are far more interested in watching Sly mix it up with Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham (pictured) et al. than seeing Michael Cera battle Ramona Flowers’ seven evil exes. Read on for my predictions.

1. The Expendables: $30 million
Sylvester Stallone really has done it. He’s assembled the biggest action stars of the past two decades, including California’s governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, into one giant action film. And despite middling reviews, the men are destined to attend. And not just men over 25 reminiscing on the heyday of Arnold, Bruce Willis, and Stallone. Young men are interested, too, and as such are likely to push the R-rated film into the top spot for the weekend.

Will Shania Twain Be a Judge on American Idol?

Jennifer Lopez’s American Idol negotiations may have gone south, but a superstar may still end up on the judging panel for season 10 of FOX’s hit show. Shania Twain has long been at the top of the network’s list, according to a source close to the singer.

“They’ve been after her ever since she was a mentor on the show last season,” the source says. “And they haven’t given up.”

Twain stepped in for the Chicago auditions and “everyone thought she was a great addition to the judges’ table,” a show source said at the time. She also mentored the contestants in April.

Her name came up — along with other celebs, including Elton John, Chris Isaak and Harry Connick Jr. — as a possible permanent judge after Simon Cowell announced his departure last year.

“Shania’s a huge fan of the show and she had a great time as a mentor,” the source says.

Asked whether she’ll join the show, Twain’s rep had no comment.

FOX has no comment except to note that no judges have been confirmed yet for the show.
