'Paranormal Activity 2': Paramount's super-creepy viral marketing campaign

Well played, Paramount. Yesterday, I found a small padded envelope in my EW mailbox. It was hand-addressed to me in black sharpie. The return address read: 40 University Dr, Rindge, NH 03461. Hmm… No one I know lives there. When I opened it, there was nothing but an HP flash drive inside. No note, no explanation, nothing. Uh, creepy. No thanks.

Well, it turns out the drive contains a scene from next month’s Paranormal Activity 2. It’s one of seven new videos making the Internet rounds today as part of Paramount’s viral marketing campaign for the sequel, which the studio is keeping under extremely tight wraps. The videos (all embedded below) shed a flicker of light on the actual plot — and possibly confirm my worst fears that it’s all about a poor, helpless baby who gets tormented by a demon. How am I going to make it through this movie?

Rising browser powers: Chrome, iOS, mobile

Browser usage statistics for September provide a look at who's gaining clout on the Web: Google's Chrome, the twin mobile powerhouses of Apple's iOS and Google's Android, and a dash of Microsoft's IE9.

Google's Chrome browser continued its steady rise in usage on NetApplications' network of thousands of Web sites, which get tens of millions of visits monthly, increasing from 7.5 percent in August to 8 percent in September, the analytics firm said.

AT&T launching Windows Phone 7 handsets on November 8, unveiling them October 11?

The WSJ reports that you'll be able to get your hands on a Windows Phone 7 device in the US the week of November 8th. That's a month after WP7's official unveiling, and weeks after the rumored European launch.

As for hardware, AT&T will feature offerings from Samsung, LG, and HTC from day one.

Those of you on Verizon and Sprint wondering when your WP7 devices are rolling through are going to have to sit tight; Microsoft's not pursuing a CDMA version of the phone until next year. And those of you on AT&T wondering why—apparently—Europe gets first digs? Well, chalk that up to life's unremitting unfairness, I guess.

Samsung Galaxy Tab to land in UK on November 1

Need some hot new hardware to offset the onset of another miserly winter? Samsung wants the Galaxy Tab to be the thing that keeps you warm and fuzzy over the holidays and has just announced a November 1 launch date for its tablet in the United Kingdom. All major carriers are signed up to offer the Android 2.2 device and usual suspect Carphone Warehouse will also be dishing it out if you have the cash to snap one up. How much cash, you ask? That's the one important piece of information that Samsung is still leaving to hang in the air, proffering only the contention that it "will be available on a range of attractive price packages." Never mind, we'll just let our imaginations do the accounting.

Ooh la la! A stylish Taylor Swift covers her flowing locks in a red hat as she walks through Paris

She may hail from a small town in Pennsylvania, but Taylor Swift managed to look right at home in chic Paris yesterday.

The 20-year-old country singer still looked stylish after tucking her famous long blonde tresses in a red woolly hat.

Swift showed off her svelte figure in a short black jacket with matching black skirt, leggings and knee length black boots.

And the star seemed to be enjoying herself as she took a stroll around the French capital with a couple of her assistants.

At one point they stopped off to pick up a coffee at a local cafe.

She is currently on a promotional tour around Europe which has also seen her take in the sights of Italy.

'Oh, Italian fans... I love you. Just played X-Factor Italy. Now I think I'll go eat pizza,' she wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Verizon’s dual-touch Samsung Continuum gets second outing

We caught a glimpse of the Samsung Continuum SCH-i400 yesterday, but now the dual-touchscreen Verizon Android phone has leaked more comprehensively. Android Central managed to snag some hands-on time with the Verizon Continuum, finding its main touchscreen to be considerably smaller than that of the Verizon Fascinate and its Ticker mini-touchscreen to work surprisingly well.

No hard specs for the phone have leaked, but they estimate the main touchscreen at around 3.5-inches and to be Super AMOLED. Of course, Samsung already have the 3.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen used on the Wave S8500, so it could be a return of that panel. The Ticker offers shortcuts and media playback controls, as well as alerts, RSS feeds and notifications.

That's better: Katherine Heigl turns glamorous lady in red after make-up free disaster

After her recent lacklustre display, Katherine Heigl was back on top last night as she attended the premiere of her new movie.

Just two days after her dressed down, make-up free outing, the 31-year-old transformed into a stunning lady in red for the opening night of Life As We Know It at the The Ziegfeld Theatre in New York.

She was joined by her co-stars Josh Duhamel and Josh Lucas, although Madmen star Christina Hendricks, who also appears in the romcom, was not present.

Heigl plays the character of Holly Berenson, an up-and-coming caterer with Duhamel playing Eric Messer, a promising network sports director.

JYJ's new album has pre-orders of 150,000 after just one day

JYJ wil be releasing their first worldwide album 'The Beginning' on October 12th. As members of TVXQ, it is predicted that Micky Yoochun, Youngwoong Jaejoong and Xiah Junsu's new album will be a big hit on the market.

TVXQ's previous album 'Mirotic', released in 2008 sold a record-breaking 500,000 copies, yet it is likely that that this record will be broken with the release of the trio's new album.

It has now been 2 years since the release of 'Mirotic', and the trio are back with their new album 'The Beginning'. Already, the album has demonstrated phenomenal selling power; all 99,999 copies of the Luxury Package were sold out within the first day of pre-sales.

Motorola Stingray Tablet for Verizon Landing First Quarter 2011

We’re just about into the third quarter of 2010, which means that wireless carriers are getting ready to release one last salvo at the consumer. With the holiday shopping season upon us, there’s no surprise here that Verizon would be gearing up to release a plethora of handsets before the end of the year. And, while there’s plenty of big names being dropped, the main takeaway from the leak today, is that the Motorola Stingray tablet, which will feature Android 3.0 “Gingerbread,” won’t be making its presence known until after the holiday shopping season.

First though, let’s go through the rest of the leak. According to a tipster, Engadget believes that quite a lot is going to happen with Verizon here in the coming months. Firstly, it looks like the BlackBerry Storm 3 from Research In Motion is actually cancelled. Their source says that it may still show up somewhere, but that it isn’t coming out for Verizon. Additionally, the BlackBerry Curve 3G, Tour, and Bold 9650 are all getting software updates some time in October, which are meant to address some known issues with the devices.

And that’s it for non-Android related handset news. According to the tipster, Verizon is still pushing Android hard, and it shows from the products being mentioned here. The Samsung Continuum (SCH-i400, which broke cover earlier today), is set for a late October release, and it will feature that dual-screen front, with the 1GHz processor under the hood. Motorola has a Venus handset coming out in October, too, and it’s billed as featuring a full physical QWERTY keyboard, with a “BlackBerry look and feel.” There’s going to be a 1GHz processor under the hood here, too.

The Motorola Droid Pro, or the Global/World Edition if you prefer, is set to launch in late October, or early November, and it features a 1.3GHz processor, as well as global capabilities. And then the HTC Merge/Lexicon/Lexikon is set to launch at almost the same time as the rest of them, slated for late October or early November. This is the device that features a full slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard, and a 1GHz processor. And then there’s LG’s effort into the Android party, with a handset that may actually be worth awhile (unlike what they have on offer here in the States now). It will have the same body as the LG enV Touch, but it will be called the LG enV Pro. It will also have a 1GHz processor under the hood.
