Remember the Motorola Opus One? The device has been officially announced as the Motorola i1, and it’s the world’s first Push-to-Talk rugged smartphone to run Android. The i1 is also one of the best-looking PTT phones ever.
Manufactured for Sprint’s iDEN portfolio, the Motorola i1 comes with Android 1.5 and features a 3.1 inch HVGA “tough” touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Swype virtual keyboard, Opera Mini 5, Webkit browser (with Adobe Flash Lite), Microsoft Document Viewer, 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, and MicroSD card support (a 2GB card is included).
The Moto i1 also “meets Military specifications for protection against dust, shock, vibration and blowing rain” and “enhances the push-to-talk experience with the ability to view who is calling regardless of what application you are in, whether you are managing your emails, checking your calendar, composing messages or viewing media.”
Motorola says that Sprint will sell the i1 starting this summer. The smartphone’s price was not announced – if it’s under $200 on contract, the i1 might become one of Sprint’s best selling iDEN devices.
