Verizon to launch 3 to 5 LTE phones by May 2011

Not long after confirming plans for launching a Google Android tablet, Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam has unveiled even more details about the carrier’s upcoming releases.
According to Reuters, Verizon intends to introduce both tablets and phones with 4G/LTE connectivity by May next year. Three to five LTE phones should be out by then – it’s slightly sooner than previously planned, but it’s understandable why Verizon wants to hurry things up, since Sprint already has a 4G phone (the HTC EVO 4G, which will go on sale on June 4).
Lowell McAdam has even disclosed the names of the companies that could make LTE tablets for Verizon: Samsung, Motorola and LG. As for Verizon’s LTE phones, these might be made by HTC, RIM, Motorola or LG.
Verizon’s LTE network isn’t functional yet (not for end users, anyway), but it should be before the end of 2010 in some markets across the US.
