What would Disney say? Vanessa Hudgens shakes off squeaky clean High School Musical image with raunchy role

She is famed for her role as goody-two-shoes teen Gabriella Montez in High School Musical and dates her equally clean-living former co-star Zac Efron.

But it seems Vanessa Hudgens is keen to shake the squeaky clean Disney shackles if her raunchy performance in the musical Rent is anything to go by.

In a series of increasingly revealing costumes, the 21-year-old actress and singer gave a provocative performance in the part of Mimi, an HIV-infected stripper.

And while he was no doubt proud of his girlfriend, Efron - who was in the audience throughout the show at the Hollywood Bowl - must have found it slightly uncomfortable viewing at points.

In addition to passionately kissing her co-star, Gossip Girl actor Aaron Tveit, Hudgens poses sexily for him and dances in a way that would be far too X-rated for High School Musical.

Joining Hudgens and Tveit in the star-studded cast was Pussycat Doll and recent X Factor guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, who plays bisexual performance artist Maureen.

Like her co-star, the 32-year-old also dons a range of corseted mini-dresses and fishnet tights for the musical but baring in mind her girlband's raunchy music videos, her performance lacks the shock factor of Hudgens's.

Despite the presence of two major Hollywood starlets, it seems there were no conflicts of ego during rehearsals for the show.

Last night ahead of the opening, Scherzinger tweeted she was 'so blessed to be with such a beautiful cast'.

The show is directed by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, who performed in the 1997 touring production of the musicial, and runs for just three days at the Hollywood Bowl.

Speaking about Hudgens' performance as Mimi, Harris said: 'She looks amazing, has great vocal chops, and seems really committed to honouring the somewhat iconic role of Mimi.

'I look forward to audiences seeing a dark, edgy, and very different side of Vanessa Hudgens.'

Also in the production is Whose Line Is It Anyway? star Wayne Brady as gay professor Tom Collins and Collins Pennie as landlord Benny Coffin.
