“Lonestar” Cancelled?

Anyone watching Lonestone? If you answered no, you’re not alone. On Thursday, The FOX Network debunked reports that it is sending its critically-acclaimed new drama Lonestar to the Television Graveyard after just one episode due to poor ratings.

The show — which follows a con man juggling two unknowing women — opened to strong reviews and boasted the hit medical drama House as a lead-in. A disappointing 4.1 million viewers tuned in for its series premiere on Monday night.

“Those are Friday night numbers on a Monday night premiere,” says Brad Adgate, TV analyst with Horizon Media. “That’s a nice cable audience. A program like this is either going to be a huge hit or land with a resounding thud. There’s usually no in-between.”

Shortly after a rep for Lonestar’s head writer argued that the program’s cancellation would have “a chilling effect on networks taking chances on anything but cookie-cutter shows,” FOX announced that the series will remain in its current timeslot for at least one more week. Production is also expected to continue, with the sixth episode due to begin filming on Friday.

For now, Lonestar airs Mondays @ 9/8c on Fox.
