S.H.E's Selina quietly gets engaged to lawyer beau

Singer-host Selina Jen of Taiwan pop trio S.H.E quietly got engaged Sunday to beau, lawyer Richard Chang, in a low-key ceremony at a restaurant in Taiwan, reported Taiwan media. There, Chang presented Jen, 28, with a small diamond ring worth NT$20,000 (S$842).
Chang explained that Jen's family felt he had already given her an extravagant gift, in the form of a diamond watch, when he proposed at her concert in May, and preferred him to get her a simple engagement ring instead.
Chang praised his prospective in-laws for their open-mindedness and obliged.
"It is commemorative. This way, you can wear it all the time," said Chang.
While Chang's ring was rather modest, his mother was spotted covertly stuffing a gold bracelet in Jen's hand during the event after praising the singer for her hosting prowess.
"She is a simple, kind-hearted girl. She has a knack for making people laugh and brining harmony. Everyone is very happy with her around," said Chang.
Friends of the couple said it was Jen's father who suggested that the pair get engaged, as he felt it made their relationship official and public.
The couple originally intended to marry on April 2 next year, on the wedding anniversary of Jen's parents.
However, it was reported that have may be forced to bring it forward to April Fool's Day (April 1) due to scheduling difficulties.
The couple began dating in 2007 but their relationship only came to light after Chang, 37, boldly expressed his love for the singer at an S.H.E concert in May this year.
