Google Nexus One plagued with 3G issues?

Available for purchase as of January 5 (only in the US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong at the moment), Google’s Android superphone, the Nexus One, seems to have some problems with 3G reception.

There’s a long thread over at the Google support forums, where some of the new Nexus One owners are reporting 3G connectivity issues in the US.

It looks like the HTC-made smartphone gets a weak 3G signal from time to time, and even switches to EDGE, while other T-Mobile phones have good reception.

Here’s what the first Nexus One users to report the problem has to say:

“I switched from a Moto Cliq, where I had 3-4 bars of 3G in my house constantly, to a Nexus One. I now either get 1 or no bars of 3G. I made sure that always use 2G was disabled, and I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.”

Another (ex-BlackBerry) user continues:

“I upgraded from a Blackberry Pearl to the Nexus One. I cannot get any 3G service as of yet. Don’t know what the problem is. T-mobile and HTC support weren’t able to help.”

And another users says:

“I’m having this same problem. My G1 has 3G with full strength, but sitting right next to it my Nexus has 1 bar of 3G and keeps switching to Edge. If I let it sit for a while it may go up to 3 bars of signal strength but as soon as I start trying to use it the signal strength drops back down to one bar. I called T-mobile to make sure that I didn’t need to activate the phone or something to get 3G service. They said my account looked fine and that they couldn’t give me any more support since I had a Nexus One, that I had to call HTC. So I called HTC and they said that your 3G service is a T-mobile issue and they couldn’t help me. The fact that my G1 works perfectly sitting right next to the Nexus though makes me think it really is a problem with the phone.”

Ok, so it might be a problem related just to T-Mobile’s 3G (the carrier uses the not-so-common 1700MHz frequency). Until now, no one from the UK, Singapore or Hong Kong reported any issues with Nexus One’s 3G performance. But if someone will, then there’s certainly something not right with Google’s first phone. Let’s hope HTC and the big G will look into the matter and see what exactly is going on.

Ke$ha Slams Paris Hilton

Urban pop singer Ke$ha released her debut album 'Animal' this week to much ballyhoo. But the ingénue, who had a hit with the electro party anthem 'TiK ToK' and sang the chorus hook on Flo Rida's smash 'Right Round,' first brushed with fame several years ago when she and her family were featured on the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reality TV vehicle, 'The Simple Life.'

"That was my mum's idea. She just decided to call [the show's producers] because she's attracted to interesting, different experiences," Ke$ha tells PopEater. "They chose us because we're the most eccentric family in all of Nashville."

For her part, Ke$ha is unimpressed with the program. "We were hanging out at their house a little bit," she says dismissively, recalling that the show included Hilton hooking up on a date. "It was with some guy. It's all for TV, whatever. I went out two nights later to a gay bar and saw him dancing around topless with another man. That's reality television for you."

The plucky 22-year-old, born Kesha Sebert, worked with Hilton again when she relocated to Los Angeles to work with 'Animal' producer Lukasz 'Dr. Luke' Gottwald. At the time, Dr. Luke was working on Hilton's 2006 single 'Nothing in This World,' and brought in Ke$ha to sing backing vocals for the song.

"I ended up kicking it with her for a minute," Ke$ha says. "To be frank, I went to her house party and didn't talk to anybody and ended up dancing around by myself. Then I got kicked out for being a bit too rowdy. I'm just not a swanky b----. I'm the antithesis of her."

With that said, is Ke$ha a down-to-earth type who really does like the simple life? "I hope so," she says.

Zaizai steals Xiao Zhu's endorsement, change of heads to wash

ZaiZai(Vic Zhou) and Xiao Zhu (Show Luo) had previously "clashing" styles while filming ads, but now the Shampoo brand that Xiao Zhu has been endorsing for 3 years, has changed and signed Zaizai as their endorser from this year, bringing back their "Adverts First Brother " battle.

Yesterday, Xiao Zhu's manager Jiang Cheng-Jin replied wittingly : "Being this brand endorser for 3 Years he filmed 4 ads, and in those, Xiao Zhu and Alice Tzeng from met, had first love to finally getting married, if he kept on being the endorser, do you think it's good to film them having kids ? It was about time for a change to have a fresh feeling."

Zaizai and Xiao Zhu are both advertisers favourites. One whose fame spread all around Asia because of F4's name as a foundation and a guaranteed strong box office overseas, last year proving again his acting skills in "Black and White" ; the latter is a whole rounded artist, who can sing, dance, host. The 2 are each other target in the advertisement area, but Zaizai's manager Zhi Xiang Li feels that it is a healthy competition, the 2 artist having never cooperated before, and their sole link is that Zaizai's ex DaS is Xiao Zhu's good friend.

Last August, Zaizai went to Thailand to film this Shampoo TV commercial, pocketing over 10 Millions, and in just 90 seconds, he once again showed off his "deep love" and cute look. Recently he is preparing for the movie "Killer, Ou Yang Pen Zhai", and ridiculously got into tabloids because he had dinner with Bowie Tsang to talk about it, Zhi Xiang Li powerlessly jokes : "Lately he had been playing with flowers and grass(aka flirting), because the movie's killer loves Bonzais."

On The 10th, Xiao Zhu will attend to Idol drama "Hot Shot" event. This time, Jerry Yang with who he is rumored to not get along with isn't coming, only his good friend Wu Chun, the 2 also use the same hairstylist thus showing their brotherly bond, making GTV praising them "Such considerate artists". "Hot Shot" drama will organise 2 fans meetings in Tokyo and the fans have to buy a DVD set worth about 10 thousands NTD to be able to participate in the lottery and then get in, the tickets revenue alone is estimated to be more than 40Millions.

Miley Cyrus' 'Hannah Montana' to End This Year

Miley Cyrus is all set to shake off the alter ego that launched her into superstardom.

Cyrus' blockbuster show Hannah Montana will wrap production forever in 2010, reps for Disney confirmed to the New York Post Friday. The Disney Channel series -- about average teen "Miley Stewart" who secretly moonlights as pop star Hannah Montana -- begins shooting its fourth season Jan. 18, concluding sometime this summer.

Hannah Montana's season-three finale, "Is Miley Saying Goodbye?" airs in mid-March, and mirrors the actress-singer's own growing pains. "It's one of the things [her character Miley Stewart] has been wrestling with for months," Disney Channel executive Andy Bonnett tells the Post. "Whether it's time to make a decision to continue being Hannah Montana or just be a regular, ordinary girl." (Season four premieres "in late spring," and will air throughout 2010, Bonnett added.)

In September 2008, Cyrus squashed rumors that she was trying to get fired from the show, telling UsMagazine.com at the time, "I am fully committed to Hannah Montana. It's what gave me this amazing opportunity to reach out to so many people."

Now 17, Cyrus is leaving her show at a high point; it still averages nearly 5 million viewers a week, the Post notes. The maturing star has certainly turned heads over the past year and a half: a half-naked Vanity Fair cover, a stripper-pole performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, a precocious tattoo and countless provocative remarks.

In fact, tween site JSYK.com voted Cyrus the worst celebrity influence of 2009; out of nearly 45,000 votes, Cyrus garnered 42%, beating out Britney Spears (27%) and Kanye West (19%).

But the star has plenty of other projects to keep her occupied: She headlines the Nicholas Sparks romantic film The Last Song (which premieres in April) and makes a cameo in the Sex and the City sequel, which arrives May 28. "It's the best job I've ever done," Cyrus said of her appearance in Sex. She has called her burgeoning film career "my main passion."

Dell Mini 3 and Google Nexus One UK launch plans unfold

CES 2010’s US-focus means we generally have to wait a little longer to hear about when some of the more appealing gadgets may make their way to foreign shores, but a couple of the headline-grabbing Android smartphones have already been promised to the UK. Dell confirmed with Electricpig that the Dell Mini 3 would be, perhaps unsurprisingly, headed to the UK, together with the tease that the handset was apparently “built specifically with the UK in mind”, while Total Telecom have heard from UK carriers T-Mobile and 3 that they’re currently negotiating with Google over the Nexus One.

We can’t see AT&T being particularly pleased about that Dell soundbite, since the US carrier brought the company on-stage earlier in the week as part of their triumphant new five-strong Android line-up. Perhaps Dell reckon that where the UK goes in terms of smartphones, the US will follow on after, even if the Mini 3 ends up launching on AT&T first.

As for the Google Nexus One, the HTC-made “superphone” will arrive in the UK on Vodafone initially, though it’s already available to order by UK customers as long as they don’t mind having it shipped from the US (and thus paying the inevitable import duties and tax). It leaves O2 as the grumpy one; they’ve said they currently have “no plans” to launch the Nexus One, and that in fact customers should be wary of buying unlocked cellphones not specifically tested on their network.

LG GT540 Swift with Android caught on video

Yesterday, when we first reported about the LG GT540 being unveiled at CES 2010, we didn’t have any photos of the phone.

Now we do, and there are also two hands-on videos with the GT540 Swift – which is LG’s third Android phone, after the GW620 and the China-bound GW880.

As mentioned before, the LG GT540 is a mid-end phone that features a 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen display, HSDPA connectivity, lots of Google services, a motion UI player, DivX support, MicroSD card support, and a 3MP camera with autofocus and face tracking.

The phone runs a slightly customized Android UI, but we don’t know what version it is.

Here are the video previews, via 611connect and PhoneScoop:

LG GT540 should be available starting April this year, for an unknown price, most probably in Europe first.

Audrina Patridge Steps Out with New Boyfriend?

Audrina Patridge and what would appear to be a new boyfriend arrived at club Voyeur for an evening out last night. We actually don't know who he is.

Since finally splitting from that unclean douchebag Justin-Bobby from The Hills, Audzo has dated Tal Cooperman and Corey Bohan for brief periods.

She's also been linked to Chris Pine and most recently, Glee cast member Mark Salling. This fella doesn't appear to be Mark, however. Who is he?!

This isn't a trivia question, we're actually curious. Fire off a comment if you know the identity of the star's new man (or sibling for all we know)!

Random Magazine Sucks Up to Kim Kardashian

Based solely on the latest issue of Ocean Drive, you'd think Kim Kardashian was a hard-working entrepreneur that built herself up from nothing and actually contributes something to society aside from large breasts.

Isn't that hilarious?

The random publication features Kim on its cover and refers to her a "multimedia juggernaut," a "fitness sensation," and a "shoe guru."

Those descriptions differ slightly from THG's take on Kim as a "fame-obsessed model that is only well-known because she let a dude named Ray J have intercourse with her on camera and will shill for anything for a buck."

Still, Kim looks pretty good in the magazine's photo spread. We can give her that much.

Check out a few excerpts from Kardashian's interview, and a few more photos of her from the shoot, below:

On her entrepreneurial side: My dad was a great attorney and businessman. He instilled a strong work ethic in all of us. If we wanted our allowance, we had to work. For Christmas presents, he’d give us gift certificates for a “one-hour conversation about life with Dad.”

On her fashion background: I think back to the ’80s, when my mom had an enormous closet and Kourtney and I were about nine and 10. We used to always drape ourselves in her jewels and furs.

On Reggie Bush: He only cares about football, and really couldn’t care less about the Hollywood life. It’s not a struggle, because we balance each other out. In his house, it’s only SportsCenter, and in my house, it’s only E!.

Did Selena Gomez Break Up Taylor and Taylor?

When Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner ended their brief relationship, most sources agreed the basis for this break up was basic:

The pair simply didn't have a lot in common. Moreover, strong feelings weren't there on Swift's side.

But Star magazine has a different theory: a well-known, adorable third person got herself between Taylor and Taylor - Selena Gomez!

Gomez and Lautner were a rumored item for awhile, as the former has said meeting the latter was "the best thing ever."

An insider now says the spark between these two never died down and they've rekindled at least some sort of relationship. Are there any facts to back up this claim? Of course not. But does that mean it's not worth talking about the possibility? Of course not!
