Firefox Mobile for Android to debut in late 2010, future Windows Mobile version uncertain

After a slow start, Firefox Mobile has been making great strides recently; releasing the final version of the mobile browser for the Maemo platform and ramping up development on its Android client. Mozilla’s VP of Mobiles, Jay Sullivan, recently told Tech Radar that Mozilla is targeting the end of 2010 as a tentative release date for the Android edition of Firefox Mobile. The development of the Android version poses a bit of a challenge as Firefox Mobile is based upon C and C++, while Android is Java-based and the latest Native Development kit which is necessary to bring Firefox Mobile to Android was only released last October. Sullivan also addresses other platforms in the interview, commenting that MeeGo presents an exciting opportunity for Mozilla, while the future of the Windows Mobile version, already in Alpha, is under review now that the radically new Windows Phone 7 Series operating system has been officially introduced by Microsoft.

WM 6.5.3 to become Windows Phone Classic; Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition announced for emerging markets

Since Windows Phone 7 Series is designed for high-end smartphones, Microsoft will still need an OS for mid and low-end devices.

That’s why it will continue with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 – but it looks like it will rename it and call it Windows Phone Classic (via jkOnTheRun and I started something). Most probably, this will happen after Windows Phone 7 Series is launched (sometime in late 2010).

Windows Phone Classic aside, Microsoft will also have an OS especially designed for emerging markets: Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition, which is based on WM 6.5 and will be able to run on both consumer and rugged devices.

Motorola Devour to sell for $150 at Best Buy?

You've just got to love the slow trickle of information about your next smartphone, right? Just days after hearing that Best Buy would gladly accept your pre-order on Motorola's Devour (without actually telling you the final price, comically enough), this leaked flyer has flown into our inbox to clear up the mystery. Unless we've got some seriously awesome Photoshop work going on here, it seems as if the Flash supporting handset will sell for $149.99 on a 2-year Verizon contract, and of course, that's sans mail-in rebate if you snag one from the Big Yellow Tag. Not bad given the specs, wouldn't you say?

Barbie Hsu overcomes aqua phobia for latest film

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu was made to strip down to a tiny tube top and overcome aqua phobia while filming upcoming romantic film "Hot Summer Days".

Hsu, who already had to shed her beloved shoulder length tresses for the movie, was required to put on a skimpy singlet and shorts during a scene where she jumps into the sea at Hong Kong's Repulse Bay.

She then had to remove her singlet leaving her in a tiny tube top with her back and belly exposed.

"It was so scary, that was the day I wore the least clothes during the entire production," the 33-year-old said.

"When we were shooting in the morning, a lot of tourists already noticed and the paparazzi arrived in the afternoon. I did not dare to come out a whole 20 minutes after I had changed into the clothes, because there were so many people and cameras pointed at me."

"I kept thinking of ways to avoid exposing myself because the paparazzi were out to take pictures of that! However, the director said it was getting dark so I had no choice but to come out," said Hsu.

The scene was also challenging for Hsu as it required her to overcome her fear of water and jump into the sea.

Jay Chou lashes out at rapper Dog G for insulting song

Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou has lashed out at rapper Dog G for writing a song about ex-girlfriend Patty Hou's virgin bride status that indirectly insulted him.

The Taiwanese rapper, inspired by media reports that the soon-to-be-married television host Hou is a virgin bride, wrote in his song that Chou "writes about being 'diao' [cool, powerful] in his songs, but is all talk and never used it".

The word 'diao' can also refer to the male genitalia in the Taiwanese dialect.

Chou joked that it was up to the Green Hornet - the singer plays Kato in the upcoming Hollywood film of the same name - and Panda Heroic - a panda themed superhero played by Chou's close friend Devon Song - to uphold justice. So he asked Song, popularly known as Dan Tou, to respond on his behalf.

"If Dog G did not rely on scolding other people, he would be an unknown singer," said Song.

"I originally wanted to write a song to stand up for Chou but he [Chou] told me to spend time with my family over the Lunar New Year period and not waste my time," Song added.

Vanness Wu's film company involved in drug scandal; VanNess Wu denies being involved in marijuana arrest

Taiwan police have come up with a list of celebrities they wish to question on drug related offences after investigating the film production company jointly run by action star Sammo Hung's son, Jimmy Hung, former F4 member Vanness Wu and a few others.

During a raid on the company's premises last week, Taiwan police caught a 29-year-old employee named Zhou with marijuana.

Zhou denied ever selling drugs to any artistes.

They also caught three of Zhou's associates and believed that all four men used code words like "hand-made cookies" and "CD" to buy drugs from a syndicate.

Police suspect that an international syndicate which uses American-Chinese to smuggle drugs into Taiwan is involved.
