Vanness Wu's film company involved in drug scandal; VanNess Wu denies being involved in marijuana arrest

Taiwan police have come up with a list of celebrities they wish to question on drug related offences after investigating the film production company jointly run by action star Sammo Hung's son, Jimmy Hung, former F4 member Vanness Wu and a few others.

During a raid on the company's premises last week, Taiwan police caught a 29-year-old employee named Zhou with marijuana.

Zhou denied ever selling drugs to any artistes.

They also caught three of Zhou's associates and believed that all four men used code words like "hand-made cookies" and "CD" to buy drugs from a syndicate.

Police suspect that an international syndicate which uses American-Chinese to smuggle drugs into Taiwan is involved.

Police said they have begun a dragnet operation to arrest drug offenders in the entertainment industry and believe that the names of many more artistes involved in this matter will turn up over the course of their investigations.

Jimmy Hung said through a friend that he had reprimanded Zhou but believed that Zhou, a competent employee, should be given a second chance.

Hung also expressed concern over police suspicions that other artistes are involved in the matter.

Wu was in Japan at the time of the incident and could not be reached for comment. However, his manager Katie denied rumours that Zhou was once Wu's assistant and insisted Zhou just "helped Wu out for about one or two weeks".

Drug scandals have rocked the Asian entertainment scene in recent months. Japanese actress Noriko Sakai was arrested for drug possession in August last year.

Hong Kong teen model Monique Chau has also been convicted of drug possession just last month after being caught with ketamines in a school bathroom.

VanNess Wu denies being involved in marijuana arrest

Earlier this month, VanNess Wu's film company Smash and Grab Productions, which was co-created by Sammo Hung’s son and former Tension member Jimmy Hung, was searched by the police. Producer Chou Yi-Quan was arrested for possession of marijuana.

In addition to affecting VanNess Wu and Jimmy Hung, it was also reported that more artists are under the suspicion of drug-use. Concerning the news, Van Ness Wu denied his involvement through his assistant, “It has nothing to do with me.” Chou Yi-Quan also took all responsibility in his interview with the media, “It was my personal behavior. It had nothing to do with other people.”

VanNess Wu converted to Christianity in 2008 and has since given up alcohol and sex, along with other big changes in his life. Earlier this year, he attended The Festival of God`s Power Conference and prayed for patients at the event. Only half a month later, the unexpected arrest of t his staff member Chou Yi-Quan turned him into a suspect as well, as he is the owner of the company.

Although Chou Yi-Quan declared himself as VanNess Wu’s assistant, VanNess (who is currently in Japan) denied this claim through his assistant. They insisted that Chou is a producer, not a personal assistant, and he has nothing to do with this matter. The other person in charge of the company, Jimmy Hung, also denied that he had any knowledge of it. He said a staff member from his company made a mistake doesn’t mean his company has also done something wrong.

This won’t be the first time VanNess Wu has been dragged into scandals that made headlines. 20 years ago, he biological father Wu Jia-Qi fled to the US after he was wanted for accepting money illegally. After his arrest warrant expired last April, he met with his son in Taiwan for the first time. Back then, Van Ness Wu thought his fame had caused problems for his parents. He defended his father saying everything had passed, and one must learn from his mistakes.
