Microsoft’s own Windows Phone 7 handset may be released in early 2011, made by Asus

A few days ago at MWC 2010, when Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 7 Series, it demoed the new OS on an Asus-made smartphone, saying that the device won’t be commercially available.

However, it looks like a different (or maybe similar) Asus smartphone is in the making, and Microsoft plans to launch it as “its own phone”

The Street has it that, according to analyst Ashok Kumar (who was the first to provide details about the Google Nexus One), Asus and Microsoft “have encountered some setbacks on the road to manufacturing” the smartphone, which should be “the next Apple iPhone killer or Google Android annihilator.”

Reportedly, the Microsoft-Asus phone might be launched in early 2011, obviously with Windows Phone 7 Series on board.

But before Microsoft’s own phone comes out (if ever), we’ll see several other Windows Phone 7 Series handsets made by manufactures like HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba, which have all announced their support for the new OS.
