Apple App Store and Android Market rank highest in customer satisfaction

Marketing and advertising research company Nielsen has just published a new report on the state of mobile app stores in the US.

According to the company, the Apple App Store ranks highest when it comes to customer satisfaction, followed by Google’s Android Market. Interestingly, the next four places are taken by carrier app stores: T-Mobile Application Store, Sprint Application Store, AT&T Application Store, and Verizon Application Store.

At the bottom of the list we have the BlackBerry App World Store and the Windows Marketplace (which shows that Microsoft’s doing a pretty lousy job with its app store – but hey, maybe Windows Phone 7 Series will save it).

Nokia’s Ovi Store isn’t in the list because it has an insignificant market share in the US.

As you can see in the pie chart below, the three most used application stores in the US are Apple App Store, BlackBerry App World and Verizon’s Application Store.

Windows Marketplace has only 4% of the users, Android Market only 2%, and the Palm App Store only 1 %.

Nielsen has also (unsurprisingly) concluded that iPhone users have the highest number of apps installed, followed by Android users.
