Android 2.2 Froyo already in testing, might be announced in May

It’s been more than three months since Android 2.1 was launched, so it should be about time for Google to announce the next version of its mobile OS, Android 2.2 (aka Froyo).

According to Android and Me, sources familiar with the matter are saying that “Android 2.2 is currently being tested.” Moreover, it looks like a few Android 2.2 devices are already out there – probably used by Google employees only.

Google might announce Android 2.2 on May 19, when its annual I/O conference will take place (in San Francisco) – it’s expected that the Nexus One will be the first smartphone to be upgraded to the new version of the OS.

Android 2.2’s rumored features include: Flash 10.1 support, free additional RAM, JT compiler, FM radio enabling, OpenGL ES 2.0 enhancements, and activation of color trackball.
