Android 2.1 coming to Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro in Q4

One of the downsides of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 family is that all three handsets included in it (X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro) run Android 1.6, although Android 2.1 has been launched for quite a while now.

Well, the old OS will no longer be a problem later this year, as Sony Ericsson has just announced that the Xperia X10 phones would all be updated to Android 2.1 in the fourth quarter.

The three handsets use Sony Ericsson’s customized UXP (UX platform) on top of Android, and probably that’s why it takes so long for the company to upgrade them to the latest version of the OS.

We’ve recently heard that SE is preparing major updates for the original X10 (pictured above), and it’s good to see this confirmed. Besides Android 2.1, the smartphone will also get HD video recording, wireless home connectivity via DLNA, and enhancements to Timescape and Mediascape.
