Ellen To Blame For “Idol” Ratings Slump?

Lesbianism is killing family-friendly television and Ellen DeGeneres is the reason Americans just aren’t that into Idol — at least that’s the story religious crusader Gary McCullough is telling.
What are our thoughts on this?
On Thursday, the director of the Washington-based Christian Newswire penned a hilariously headscratching editorial indirectly blaming the gay community for the sharp decline in ratings during the past ninth season of American Idol. According to McCullough, longtime Idol viewers are switching the channel because Emmy-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is now a judge on the program. He argues that the comedienne’s “gay agenda” conflicts with the “family entertainment” component of the show and makes fans uncomfortable. Or something.
With the caliber of singers on a decline and Simon Cowell officially retiring his biting voice of reason, the ratings juggernaut has locked some of its lowest ratings ever in recent months. But certainly Ellen can’t be to blame for that, fans say. This Christian conservative begs to differ:
“This season’s new judge, Ellen DeGeneres, is the recipient of a good deal of the blame for the rating drop, but not for the glaringly obvious reason: Miss DeGeneres is a lesbian activist….I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue. Network television producers may or may not stop promoting homosexuality; but for certain they will learn to keep homosexual activism separate from the cash-cow of family entertainment,” McCullough writes.
“…When sexual behavior becomes their identifying trait in a specific broadcast, it limits the audience they will draw. Beyond that, it actually drives away a significant market share of parents and teens who used to watch the show together, until mom and dad decided that the subtle promotion of an “alternate lifestyle” to their kids was not worth the entertainment trade off. Sorry Ellen, you’re just not worth it….Here is my next prediction. There will be no left wing social activist as a judge for the tenth season of American Idol. Not only will DeGeneres be gone, she will not be replaced by anyone close to a Rosie O’Donnell wanna-be.”
