Microsoft hints at Kin phones’ prices, lets you win 50 of them

About two hours ago, Microsoft has officially announced Kin One and Kin Two – its newest Windows Phones that will be available via Verizon and Vodafone.

While Microsoft unveiled many details about the two handsets, it didn’t say how much they will cost.

Well, I don’t know how many of you noticed this, but Microsoft is offering US users the chance to win Kin phones and Zune subscriptions. The Redmond-based giant is giving away twenty-five grand prizes, each consisting of two Microsoft Kin phones (the Kin One and the Kin Two) and a Zune Pass subscription for one year.

To enter the sweepstakes, visit the official Kin website. The sweepstakes ends on May 12 and the winners will be announced on around May 26 – which probably means this is the date when Verizon plans to launch the two Kin phones.

Microsoft says that the approximate retail value of each prize is of $968. Since a Zune Pass subscription for 1 year costs $180, the Kin One and the Kin Two together cost about $788 – so I assume the Kin One will retail for a bit under $400, and the Kin Two for a bit over $400.

Of course, both Verizon and Vodafone will subsidize the phones. I’m guessing the Kin Two will be about $150 on contract, while the Kin One could be about $100 (also on contract).

Microsoft was certainly wise to team-up with Verizon (the largest US mobile carrier) and Vodafone (one of Europe’s leading carriers), and if the Kin phones will cost under $150 on contract, I guess there will be tons of them sold.
