Tales of Steven Seagal's Dark Side Come Out

Steven Seagal's mysterious past used to be kind of cool. Now it's seems a lot more sinister. We know he's hard to kill. We also know that he's above the law; he has been marked for death; he's been under siege (twice!); and, if you believe the title of his next film, he's also born to raise hell. But, really, what do we know about the man accused of hiring a woman to be his unwilling -- on call at all times -- sex partner? And now, what of the stories Jenny McCarthy tells about an audition gone horribly awry? Actually, we don't know a whole lot about Mr. Seagal, but after the jump, we break down his recent headlines.

Seagal started his Hollywood career as a martial-arts advisor -- he reportedly studied martial-arts in Japan -- on the set of of the renegade James Bond film 'Never Say Never Again' (basically a remake of 'Thunderball'). Soon after that, Seagal was starring in high-octane action films of his own -- or, really, the same film over and over again only with different titles and different villains -- while somehow creating the illusion that men with ponytails were not just aging rock stars or hip intellectuals (think Tim Robbins in 'High Fidelity') -- they also knew Kung-Fu!

Currently, though, Mr. Seagal is in trouble over allegations from 23-year-old Kayden Nguyen, who claims that she was hired to be a personal assistant for Seagal. She was not aware that being a personal assistant for Seagal included being available around-the-clock for sexual favors anytime that he desired -- or so she alleges. In no way do we condone these allegations, if true. Though, this is Steven Seagal we're talking about -- any contract put in front of us with his name associated ... we're reading the fine print. (Read Nguyen's legal papers)

Seagal is no stranger to controversy. In 1984, he married actress Adrienne La Russa even though he was -- kinda, sorta -- still married to his first wife, Miyako Fujitani, whom he left in Japan when he returned to the United States. Later, Seagal married Kelly LeBrock after she became pregnant with his child (photo on right) -- this time Seagal went through the process of first getting his marriage to La Russa annulled. Then, later, his relationship with LeBrock ended when it was discovered he was having a relationship with their nanny.

And then there's this: Movieline.com just posted a section of an interview with Jenny McCarthy done by the magazine back in the 1998. McCarthy auditioned for 'Under Siege 2' and explains what an audition in front of Mr. Seagal -- and Mr. Seagal only -- is like for a young actress.

"I was wearing this very baggy dress," McCarthy told Movieline, "which I always wear to auditions, with my hair pulled back. I'm listening to him go on and on about how he found his soul in Asia and is one with himself and whatever. When I said, 'Well, I'm ready to read,' he said, 'Stand up, you have to be kind of sexy in the movie and in that dress, I can't tell."

It gets worse, McCarthy continues, "I stand up and he goes, 'Take off your dress.' I said, 'What?' and he said, 'There's nudity.' I said, 'No, there's not, or I wouldn't be here right now.' He said again, 'There's nudity,' and I said, 'The pages are right in front of me. There's no nudity.' He goes, 'Take off your dress.' I just started crying and said, 'Rent my [Playboy] video, you asshole!' and ran out to the car."

Most recently, Seagal had been starring in his own reality series (of course he is), 'Steven Seagal: Lawman.' Cameras followed as Seagal performed duties as a reserve deputy of the Jefferson Parish, LA, Sheriff's Department. Seagal got into a bit of hot water for his participation in actual police work and arrests considering, well, that Seagal is not a police officer. To put it in perspective, Dwight Schrute on 'The Office' has a similar title to Seagal's with Jefferson Parrish. Dwight Schrute is not allowed to make arrests.

Seagal's 'Lawman,' as a result of the most recent allegations, is on indefinite hiatus.
