American Idol's Top Eight Guys Finally Join the Competition!

After a mostly lovely, yet still partly lame, ladies' night, it was the guys' turn to sing it out for a spot in American Idol's top 12.

Only a couple had performed with any consistency up to this point, so our hopes weren't high as we tuned in Wednesday to listen to the top eight gents.

Were our suspicions correct, or have we all been a bit hasty in judging the guys to be finished before they even really began?

Lee Dewyze: The fan favorite who redeemed guys' night last week kicked off the show with a slightly grittier version of the oh-so-contemporary "Fireflies." And Lee managed to make the song more appealing, with the tone of his husky voice proving a better fit than Owl City frontman Adam Young's nasal twang. "I think you actually made the song a better song," Kara DioGuardi said. "A strange song choice," Randy Jackson agreed, "but you kinda made it your own." Simon Cowell thought there was "nothing to rave about," but he wasn't too worried about Lee's future on the show.

Dakota & Kristen's Sexy Drugfest: Parent Approved?

The new film The Runaways is really all about "sex, drugs and rock and roll," as Joan Jett told us today at the Luxe Hotel for the film's junket. (Also, it's a must-see, totally cool.)

Let's hit sex first: We all know by now that stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning share a big wet kiss onscreen, but that isn't the only racy thing this film has to offer. With Dakota snorting drugs off the floor and spewing some foul language, it's clear this film is a huge departure from the squeaky-clean New Moon, where everyone's celibate and mopey.

Not exactly family fare here, folks.

So what do Stewart and Fanning's own parents think about their babies going at it onscreen? We asked:

How do your parents feel about watching you act out some of these sexual and drug-infested situations? Is it hard for them?
Dakota: "One of the first movies I ever did was a pretty intense subject matter, so my parents have kind of gotten used to it by now. They know it's just acting. They know it doesn't come home with me."
Kristen: [To Dakota.] "Do you find that it's gotten easier [for our parents]? Because I find that it has."

Rob Pattinson Plays Awkward: "I Tend to Hold Back"

As Remember Me hits theaters this Friday, Robert Pattinson continues to make the press rounds, and keeps making make himself sound like the anti-heartthrob. Wonder why?

In Parade, R.Pattz talks to Jeanne Wolf about being wimpy and lady-shy. Haven't we heard all this before?

Says that adorable Twilight star:

"When it comes to the opposite sex, I'm not as fully confident as the guy I play [in Remember Me]. I don't even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date, like, just went up to them and that's the first thing I did. I'm much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back."

Re-confirmed: Microsoft, Adobe working to bring Flash to Windows Phone 7 Series

When Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 Series, the company said that the new OS would not support Flash 10.1 at launch.

However, Adobe recently mentioned that Flash support will eventually come to WP7, and now Mike Chambers (Senior Product Manager for Developer Relations at Adobe) has reconfirmed this. According to him, Adobe and Microsoft are “working closely together” to bring to Flash Player 10.1 to Internet Explorer Mobile on Windows Phone 7 Series devices.

JooJoo tablet updates UI, fully-working Flash support

Fusion Garage may have delayed shipping its tablet for another entire month due to issues with its capacitive touchscreen, but the company has apparently made very good use of the extra time.  The JooJoo tablet has just been unveiled with a refreshed user interface, as well as fully-implemented Flash support that actually is “fully working”.  Oh, and it apparently has also changed colors, the tablet’s backplate shifting from a basic black to a “champagne-like” hue.

The startup has replaced the formerly-spartan interface with a much more modernized grid look that includes customizable wallpaper and a translucent bar that combines both status and a web address field. Engadget reports “Scroll behavior has been revised as well, with two separate behaviors: a two-finger scroll that works like a scroll wheel, and a single finger “pan” that works like a mouse arrow. That’s so you can move around sites like Google Maps, which have different interface elements mapped to each control — CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan pointed out to us that devices like the iPhone avoid the issue by using dedicated apps, but Fusion Garage wants to deliver the “full web experience.”  Interesting thinking here.

Android Surges While the iPhone Stalls Out

The latest smartphone subscriber numbers are out, and the last three months have been kind to Google. Android's still a relatively small player, but its usage base more than doubled since October. The iPhone, meanwhile, keeps on treading water.

RIM remains the leader in the smartphone space, with nearly half the market using BlackBerries. Apple's 25.1% share is undeniably impressive, but only growing .3 percentage points (relative to the market) means this summer's impending iPhone 4 release can't come soon enough for Cupertino. Either that or a whole mess of patent lawsuit wins.

Sandara Park speaks out about her sexy photos

Many fans may know that before she joined 2NE1, Sandara Park had another career in the Philippines. Before she made her debut in Korea, old racy photos surfaced onto the net as her unfortunate past came back to haunt her. Now after four long years, she finally speaks out about the event.

In a recent interview she said,

“I had the photoshoot because I wanted to show a brand new side of myself. To my knowledge, it was just supposed to be along the lines of a top and a skirt.”

More information on Flo-Rida’s collab with G-Dragon

Yang Hyun Suk shocked us all when he revealed that he will marry his girlfriend of 9 years, but his newsletter also included other important news concerning the future agenda of his artists.

Building on the previous report that Flo-Rida will be featured in a new rendition of G-Dragon’s Heartbreaker, more information on this ironic turn of events has been unveiled.

Yang Hyun Suk said, “Flo-Rida, the subject of plagiarism controversies last summer, will be featured in G-Dragon’s ‘Heartbreaker’.”

He added, “Last September, it seemed like the publishing company was going to sue YG anytime soon. However, we have yet to hear a response from the original holder of the song. We were frustrated so we contacted Flo-Rida last October, and Flo-Rida decided to feature in G-Dragon’s ‘Heartbreaker’ in November.”

VanNess, God, and bed scenes

After VanNess Wu was baptized, he offered nearly all his time to the Church; God was his top priority. Because of his dedication and promise of abstinence before marriage to God, now, not only does he feel uncomfortable all over when he films bed scenes, even when he simply recalls the images, he would get the chills and must remind himself, "It's not real!"

A few days ago, during his shoot for the Trendy Men section of Beauty 321, he spoke frankly about his faith bringing purification and peace to him. 2007 was the low-point in Van ness Wu's life. Despite being supported by the popularity of F4, he felt empty inside. As a result, he decided to find himself again, and only at that time did he discover that what put him farthest from God was sex.

VanNess stated, "I struggle a lot at first to not play around with women. In the beginning, the pastor told me to start slowly, and now I have promised God that I will observe abstinence before marriage. After the promise and his alteration, in separate years, VanNess achieved his goal of making music, holding concert, etc. More than once, during interviews, he has testified, "Give your faith to God and everything around you will succeed." VanNess also openly said that he was a "beast" before, but now, even though there are still women who take the initiative around him, he "sees them with different eyes."

Apple's iPad Could Kill The Mac

The rise of the iPhone OS-based iPad could be the beginning of the end for Apple's 26-year-old personal computer platform.

The Mac's greatest enemy may not be Microsoft Windows. It may be Apple itself. In a conversation at a Goldman Sachs technology conference, Apple COO Tim Cook said that Apple is a "mobile devices company," and that more devices will get the iPhone OS. A bit later, AT&T's CEO said the iPad would mostly be a Wi-Fi (read: home) product rather than something you tote around and use on the street.

This jibes with something I've been thinking about Apple: if it could do the Mac all over again, it would use the iPhone OS. Don't think of the iPad as a big iPod touch. Think of it, rather, as the new Mac—a new mode of home-based computing that Apple hopes will bubble up through its product line.

More gestures coming in the next iPhone OS?

We know, we know, you’re sick of future iPhone OS rumors… but one more couldn’t hurt right? The folks over at 9to5Mac have been exploring the new iPhone 3.2 beta 4 SDK, and have found a few files that could indicate more gestures are coming to the next iPhone OS. Something we reported on a pretty decent amount of time ago. The two files, “3Tap.plist” and “LongPress.plist, are located in the “gestures” library folder and, according to 9to5Mac, are not in previous versions of the SDK. Now, we know that “three taps” does not have a defined OS-wide function in the current iPhone OS, but we’re pretty sure that a “long press” will bring up a contextual menu to copy, cut, and paste among other things. For those iPhone haters out there, we’re pretty sure we know what one fingered gesture you want to give the iPhone… but unfortunately the “FlipBird.plist” file was not included in this build of the SDK. Check out the full report at 9to5Mac.

Apple, Samsung, RIM, LG, Motorola, Sanyo and AT&T sued by SmartPhone Technologies

SmartPhone Technologies LLC, a Texas-based company that doesn’t even seem to have a website, has sued no less than seven big companies for patent infringements.

The companies sued are Apple, Research In Motion, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sanyo and AT&T.

SmartPhone Technologies claims that a “broad range of patents” that it owns have been infringed by the companies. Said patents are related to email syncing, Bluetooth connectivity and other technologies.

The suit was filed in a U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Texas.

SmartPhone Technologies LLC seeks unspecified damages, costs and expenses from all companies that have allegedly infringed its patents.

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian: Ditched By Their Men!

As predicted by The Hollywood Gossip, the Kardashians responded publicly to a pair of tabloid covers last week, as all three sisters took to their blogs and shot down stories that were likely planted by their publicists.

Welcome to the circle of publicity this family has established for itself.

The siblings are at it again, as Kim and Kourtney Kardashian are featured in the latest issue of In Touch Weekly. Expect each to act shocked and angered over the report later today, while toasting their PR team at home and basking in another week of headlines...

With Kourtney and Khloe in Miami, filming the second season of their scripted "reality" show, a friend tells the magazine that Scott Disick is acting as douchey as ever:

Rihanna Still Reaching Out to Chris Brown?

RIHANNA is still in contact with ex-boyfriend Chis Brown, it has been claimed.

The Rude Boy singer — who was left battered and bruised following a 2009 altercation with Brown — is trying to stay friendly with the Run It hitmaker so she can “truly heal”.

“Ri feels like she won’t truly heal,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“Rihanna still talks to Chris. There’s some kind of need there, still.”

The source adds that Rihanna’s current squeeze, Los Angeles Dodgers star Matt Kemp, isn’t happy with that the star is talking to her violent former flame.

“Matt has a temper,” said the insider. ““He knows people who are friends with Chris, and they’ve told him that if he ever sees Rihanna on the street, he’d better run the other way.”

Siobhan Magnus: American Idol Female of the Week

While Crystal Bowersox broke out the electric guitar last night and put on an incredible show once again, we highlighted her American Idol performance last week.

Therefore, Siobhan Magnus gets the honor this time. The glassblowing apprentice from Cape Cod, Massachuetts sang an entire verse of "House of the Rising Sun" a cappella, remaining in control throughout.

It was a brave, impressive rendition. Crystal might not have the women's crown sewn up, after all. Watch and enjoy:

Motorola partners with Microsoft, will use Bing search and maps on Chinese Android phones

Uh, whoa. When we heard Google's threatened pullout of China had prompted Motorola to seek out an alternative search provider for its China-bound handsets, we can't say we were expecting a partnership with Microsoft to result. But here we are, staring at a press release announcing the Bing search and Maps will be the default on Moto's Chinese Android phones starting in Q1 -- and the partnership is described as "global," so there's a chance it could spread. That's just one more slap in Google's face from Moto, following the release of the Yahoo-powered AT&T Backflip -- and another step away from the tight relationship that produced the Droid. And does this mean Motorola might yet build a Windows Phone 7 Series device, despite a very public commitment to Android? We'd say Eric and Sanjay have some unresolved differences to work through.

Street Fighter IV for iPhone now available for $10

At the Street Fighter Fight Club event in San Francisco earlier this evening, Capcom announced that Street Fighter IV is available for the iPhone--starting right now. For $10, owners of Apple's portable platform can engage in arcade-style action while on the go. Just like in the arcade, though, there is no free play, as Capcom has not created a "lite" version for players unsure about joining the fight.

Having played the iPhone version a few weeks ago, I can tell you that while the game may carry a "high for the iPhone" price tag, it's definitely got the content to carry it, delivering eight characters, arcade and multiplayer modes, and numerous control methods for varying skill levels. It takes a bit of getting used to, but there's likely a way to play for you. It's an entirely new control platform, so purists might want to check their hang-ups at the door. I never thought I'd be okay with throwing a hadouken with any movement besides the quarter-circle forward motion--mind you, that is still an option. The iPhone version made me realize I'm okay with relearning old moves. See you on the streets!

Google-China resolution coming 'soon,' says CEO

Google's negotiations with the Chinese government over censorship and Internet search should produce a resolution "soon," Google CEO Eric Schmidt said Wednesday.

Schmidt, speaking at a media conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, declined to offer specifics on the status of those negotiations but said although "there is no specific time table" he expects a decision to happen soon, according to reports from the Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal. Google prompted a showdown with the government in January when it declared that it was no longer willing to offer a censored search engine in China and would consider pulling out of the country unless China's censorship laws changed.

Jay Chou's "Batmobile" shows itself, racing with the paparazzi

Jay Chou is mad about cars, besides owning many antique cars and having a 40 million Benz SLR722, he has bought a made to order "Batmobile" from the "Batman" film all the way from America. A few days ago he accepted an interview from Azio "Make A Friend", incidentally his "Batmobile" had just arrived in Taiwan not long before, apart from being excited Jay Chou generously let them show the "Batmobile" on the show, even though he can't drive it on the road, but Jay Chou couldn't help but say: "On another day if I'm driving it on the road and see some paparazzi, we'll see who is faster."

A few days ago Jay Chou went on Azio's "Make A Friend" to promote "Pandamen", besides talking about his relationship with Devon and Yuhao, he also revealed that because he saw little kids worshipping heroes such as "Batman", "Spiderman" from abroad, thus he wanted to make a Chinese world hero. He hired the maker of the "Batmobile" from the movie "Batman" to make him a replica, after the recording of the show, he generously invited the production team to film it at the Huashan arts centre.
