'Paranormal Activity 2': Paramount's super-creepy viral marketing campaign

Well played, Paramount. Yesterday, I found a small padded envelope in my EW mailbox. It was hand-addressed to me in black sharpie. The return address read: 40 University Dr, Rindge, NH 03461. Hmm… No one I know lives there. When I opened it, there was nothing but an HP flash drive inside. No note, no explanation, nothing. Uh, creepy. No thanks.

Well, it turns out the drive contains a scene from next month’s Paranormal Activity 2. It’s one of seven new videos making the Internet rounds today as part of Paramount’s viral marketing campaign for the sequel, which the studio is keeping under extremely tight wraps. The videos (all embedded below) shed a flicker of light on the actual plot — and possibly confirm my worst fears that it’s all about a poor, helpless baby who gets tormented by a demon. How am I going to make it through this movie?

Rising browser powers: Chrome, iOS, mobile

Browser usage statistics for September provide a look at who's gaining clout on the Web: Google's Chrome, the twin mobile powerhouses of Apple's iOS and Google's Android, and a dash of Microsoft's IE9.

Google's Chrome browser continued its steady rise in usage on NetApplications' network of thousands of Web sites, which get tens of millions of visits monthly, increasing from 7.5 percent in August to 8 percent in September, the analytics firm said.

AT&T launching Windows Phone 7 handsets on November 8, unveiling them October 11?

The WSJ reports that you'll be able to get your hands on a Windows Phone 7 device in the US the week of November 8th. That's a month after WP7's official unveiling, and weeks after the rumored European launch.

As for hardware, AT&T will feature offerings from Samsung, LG, and HTC from day one.

Those of you on Verizon and Sprint wondering when your WP7 devices are rolling through are going to have to sit tight; Microsoft's not pursuing a CDMA version of the phone until next year. And those of you on AT&T wondering why—apparently—Europe gets first digs? Well, chalk that up to life's unremitting unfairness, I guess.

Samsung Galaxy Tab to land in UK on November 1

Need some hot new hardware to offset the onset of another miserly winter? Samsung wants the Galaxy Tab to be the thing that keeps you warm and fuzzy over the holidays and has just announced a November 1 launch date for its tablet in the United Kingdom. All major carriers are signed up to offer the Android 2.2 device and usual suspect Carphone Warehouse will also be dishing it out if you have the cash to snap one up. How much cash, you ask? That's the one important piece of information that Samsung is still leaving to hang in the air, proffering only the contention that it "will be available on a range of attractive price packages." Never mind, we'll just let our imaginations do the accounting.

Ooh la la! A stylish Taylor Swift covers her flowing locks in a red hat as she walks through Paris

She may hail from a small town in Pennsylvania, but Taylor Swift managed to look right at home in chic Paris yesterday.

The 20-year-old country singer still looked stylish after tucking her famous long blonde tresses in a red woolly hat.

Swift showed off her svelte figure in a short black jacket with matching black skirt, leggings and knee length black boots.

And the star seemed to be enjoying herself as she took a stroll around the French capital with a couple of her assistants.

At one point they stopped off to pick up a coffee at a local cafe.

She is currently on a promotional tour around Europe which has also seen her take in the sights of Italy.

'Oh, Italian fans... I love you. Just played X-Factor Italy. Now I think I'll go eat pizza,' she wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Verizon’s dual-touch Samsung Continuum gets second outing

We caught a glimpse of the Samsung Continuum SCH-i400 yesterday, but now the dual-touchscreen Verizon Android phone has leaked more comprehensively. Android Central managed to snag some hands-on time with the Verizon Continuum, finding its main touchscreen to be considerably smaller than that of the Verizon Fascinate and its Ticker mini-touchscreen to work surprisingly well.

No hard specs for the phone have leaked, but they estimate the main touchscreen at around 3.5-inches and to be Super AMOLED. Of course, Samsung already have the 3.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen used on the Wave S8500, so it could be a return of that panel. The Ticker offers shortcuts and media playback controls, as well as alerts, RSS feeds and notifications.

That's better: Katherine Heigl turns glamorous lady in red after make-up free disaster

After her recent lacklustre display, Katherine Heigl was back on top last night as she attended the premiere of her new movie.

Just two days after her dressed down, make-up free outing, the 31-year-old transformed into a stunning lady in red for the opening night of Life As We Know It at the The Ziegfeld Theatre in New York.

She was joined by her co-stars Josh Duhamel and Josh Lucas, although Madmen star Christina Hendricks, who also appears in the romcom, was not present.

Heigl plays the character of Holly Berenson, an up-and-coming caterer with Duhamel playing Eric Messer, a promising network sports director.

JYJ's new album has pre-orders of 150,000 after just one day

JYJ wil be releasing their first worldwide album 'The Beginning' on October 12th. As members of TVXQ, it is predicted that Micky Yoochun, Youngwoong Jaejoong and Xiah Junsu's new album will be a big hit on the market.

TVXQ's previous album 'Mirotic', released in 2008 sold a record-breaking 500,000 copies, yet it is likely that that this record will be broken with the release of the trio's new album.

It has now been 2 years since the release of 'Mirotic', and the trio are back with their new album 'The Beginning'. Already, the album has demonstrated phenomenal selling power; all 99,999 copies of the Luxury Package were sold out within the first day of pre-sales.

Motorola Stingray Tablet for Verizon Landing First Quarter 2011

We’re just about into the third quarter of 2010, which means that wireless carriers are getting ready to release one last salvo at the consumer. With the holiday shopping season upon us, there’s no surprise here that Verizon would be gearing up to release a plethora of handsets before the end of the year. And, while there’s plenty of big names being dropped, the main takeaway from the leak today, is that the Motorola Stingray tablet, which will feature Android 3.0 “Gingerbread,” won’t be making its presence known until after the holiday shopping season.

First though, let’s go through the rest of the leak. According to a tipster, Engadget believes that quite a lot is going to happen with Verizon here in the coming months. Firstly, it looks like the BlackBerry Storm 3 from Research In Motion is actually cancelled. Their source says that it may still show up somewhere, but that it isn’t coming out for Verizon. Additionally, the BlackBerry Curve 3G, Tour, and Bold 9650 are all getting software updates some time in October, which are meant to address some known issues with the devices.

And that’s it for non-Android related handset news. According to the tipster, Verizon is still pushing Android hard, and it shows from the products being mentioned here. The Samsung Continuum (SCH-i400, which broke cover earlier today), is set for a late October release, and it will feature that dual-screen front, with the 1GHz processor under the hood. Motorola has a Venus handset coming out in October, too, and it’s billed as featuring a full physical QWERTY keyboard, with a “BlackBerry look and feel.” There’s going to be a 1GHz processor under the hood here, too.

The Motorola Droid Pro, or the Global/World Edition if you prefer, is set to launch in late October, or early November, and it features a 1.3GHz processor, as well as global capabilities. And then the HTC Merge/Lexicon/Lexikon is set to launch at almost the same time as the rest of them, slated for late October or early November. This is the device that features a full slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard, and a 1GHz processor. And then there’s LG’s effort into the Android party, with a handset that may actually be worth awhile (unlike what they have on offer here in the States now). It will have the same body as the LG enV Touch, but it will be called the LG enV Pro. It will also have a 1GHz processor under the hood.

Leggy Miley Cyrus continues the Daisy Dukes and cowgirl boots theme

Miley Cyrus looked hot to trot as she stepped out in Los Angeles today in a pair of Daisy Dukes, teamed with a rather stylish pair of cowgirl boots.

The 17-year-old singer and actress was pictured pounding the streets in her embroidered footwear with a friend in Westwood.

Miley completed her summery look with a white top, a dream catcher necklace and black bag.

Just the other day Miley was sporting another pair of cut-off denims on what was the hottest day ever recorded in LA.

The singer often causes controversy with her racy stage routines and skimpy outfits and even while just nipping to the shops, it seems she prefers to wear next to nothing.

The Hannah Montana star seems determined to shake off her formerly wholesome 'girl-next-door'that made her a global phenomenom and the richest teen in the world, worth an estimated £40million.

Wonder Girls #38 on FHM’s Sexiest Women in the World, HyunA #85, and SNSD #99

JYP Entertainment’s idol girl group, Wonder Girls, have been chosen as the 38th sexiest women in the world by FHM’s Singapore edition, making them the highest ranked Korean females on the list.

FHM (For Him Magazine) originated in the United Kingdom in 1985, but expanded around the globe to 26 countries, with Singapore’s edition arguably Asia’s best known version. The men’s lifestyle magazine reveals their “Top 100 Sexiest Women in the World” list annually.

4minute’s HyunA and fellow idol girl group SNSD came in at #85 and #99, respectively.

'Breaking Dawn' News: The Denali Coven Is Cast

It may have taken a while to happen, but now the "Breaking Dawn" casting news is coming fast and furiously. Summit Entertainment must have been working hard at keeping this one covered up, because today The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog announced that the entire Denali coven has been cast.

This fleshes out the news from earlier this week that "Lost" star Maggie Grace had been cast as Irina, the rebel from within the Denali coven's ranks. The actors cast as Eleazar, Carmen, Tanya and Kate are relatively unknown, but are sure to be catapulted into fame thanks to their involvement in "The Twilight Saga."

Nokia on Ovi: 200k daily sign-ups, 2.3m app downloads per day, 140 million users

Nokia has declared its Ovi suite of service and the Ovi Store a roaring success.

The Finnish mobile giant says 200,000 people are now signing up to its services per day, and that the total number of active Nokia service users across the globe has reached 140 million (Ovi is available in more than 190 countries).

Ovi services include the company’s mapping product, Music, Messaging and Life Tools in a select number of countries, among others.

Nokia further claims its application store (Ovi Store) is a hit on its own, with 2.3 million apps now being downloaded to phones worldwide on a daily basis.

No less than 70 app developers and publishers have surpassed the million download mark for their games, tools and whatnot in the Ovi Store. Nokia’s not afraid of name-dropping them either: Digital Chocolate, EA, Gameloft, PepsiCo, Qik and Shazam are some of the companies that see their applications increasingly land on Nokia phones.

The Ugliest Girl At The Dance: How Yahoo Destroyed Yelp’s Google Acquisition

A fascinating footnote to the failed Google acquisition of Yelp last December: a Yahoo counteroffer killed the deal, say two source with knowledge of the situation.

As of December 17 Yelp was in the final stages of negotiations to sell to Google for $550 million. But just three days later the deal was off.

So what happened during those three days? Yahoo came in with an offer to buy Yelp for $750 million – $200 million more than Google had offered. Yelp, via their investment bank, asked Google if they wanted to match it. Google declined, and one source says they didn’t actually believe that there actually was a competing offer.

Here’s where things got interesting. The Yelp management team apparently refused to work for Yahoo and wanted to take the Google offer. The Yelp board of directors, faced with a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests all stockholders, couldn’t approve a Google deal when a competing deal was available at a $200 million higher price.

Justin Bieber “U Smile” VIDEO Premiere

Beliebers, Be Still: Lucky fans of pop ace Justin Bieber are getting a gift three hours ahead of time as Vevo has released Justin Bieber’s new video for “U Smile” a little early.

Now JB won’t be the only one smiling.

Box office preview: 'Social Network' to top crop of new releases

The media, and I include Entertainment Weekly in this group, has practically ordained The Social Network as the Best. Movie. Ever. So it’s little surprise that Sony is trying to tamp down expectations on what is essentially an adult drama centered on a very popular subject matter. Yes, it’s got the A-list pedigree of director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin and Oscar talk for actors Jesse Eisenberg and our new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield. Plus, Justin Timberlake’s buzz factor doesn’t hurt either. Still, it’s a big question as to how all the positive press — and reviews — translates into box office. Regardless of how big it opens, I expect to be talking about The Facebook Movie for another few months, at the very least. And for this frame, the film is destined to land on top for sure. Its primary competition is last weekend’s top grosser Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and two new horror releases: Let Me In, the artful adaptation of the Swedish horror film from director Matthew Reeves’ (Cloverfield), and Case 39, the long-shelved horror flick starring real-life couple Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper. Neither are expected to do much this weekend. Read on for my predictions of the top five.

Nokia N8 vs. iPhone 4: camera showdown

What's the first thing you should do when you get the N8? Considering it packs the biggest image sensor embedded in a phone yet, Carl Zeiss optics, and an eight-digit pixel count, it seemed obvious to us that the answer was to take it on a picture- and video-taking stroll around London. On our way out we saw our iPhone 4 looking all sad and lonely, so we went ahead and brought it along as well. Below you shall find one gallery of pure, unadulterated N8 sample shots, another interspersed with the iPhone's results for comparison's sake, and a final one with side-by-side 100 percent crops from each image taker. Once you've digested all of those, we suggest hopping past the break and tucking into some tasty video comparisons for dessert.

Naturally, all the images are entirely unretouched (but for our masterly watermarking) and the iPhone 4's HDR hocus pocus has been left off. We've also provided a zip file containing all the full-res imagery shot with the N8 in a link below.

iPhone 4 Scalpers Force Apple to Shut Down Beijing Flagship Store

The Chinese grey market is a lucrative place to find gadgets, and pretty much anything else. Popular items include high-priced gadgets, like many of Apple’s devices, and it looks like the iPhone 4 hasn’t escaped the attention. All over the world where the newest iPhone is sold, it’s a common practice for customers to buy up a large quantity of the devices, and then send them over to China, where they can be re-sold in the grey market. That practice is going strong, as it was revealed today that Apple was forced to close their flagship Apple store, located in Beijing, due to scalpers of the iPhone 4.

Some could argue that, due to the fact that the Beijing location didn’t have a limit on how many iPhone 4s customers could buy at one time, that they were setting themselves up for the disaster that ensued. The original sales limit was two, but at some unknown time, that limit was lifted, and the pandemonium began. Customers rushed the desk and Apple employees, waving their money around. When they finally did manage to get their hands on an iPhone 4, there were reports that people were leaving the store with 20 to 30 boxed iPhone 4s in their possession.

Love's young dream! Joe Jonas and Ashley Greene can't keep their eyes, or hands, off each other

There's no doubting love is in the air!

Joe Jonas and Ashley Greene just don't seem to be able to keep their hands off each other.

The couple were spotted yesterday picking up some coffee at the Coffee Bean in Los Feliz and when they were gazing lovingly at each other they were holding hands or embracing.

Ashley looked cute, dressed in skin tight beige trousers, black vest and a cropped, checked shirt.

Whilst Joe was in his usual uniform of dark T-shirt, jeans and trainers.

The couple, who have been quietly dating for several months have always maintained, until recently, that they are 'just friends'.

Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart Not Feuding over Rob Pattinson

Emma Watson isn't biting at the chance to date Robert Pattinson.

A British magazine reported this week that Kristen Stewart was upset the Harry Potter star was "trying to steal" the Twilight hunk away from her, but Watson's rep says the story simply isn't true.

"There is no feud, nor any hint of one," her rep tells Celebuzz. "This is a complete case of mischief making."

The rumors reportedly began after speculation that Watson, 20, would star opposite Pattinson, 24, in the upcoming film Dark Arc.

Though they've remained tight-lipped and low-key about their romance, Stewart and Pattinson were last spotted snuggling in August.

Watson, meanwhile, has been dating musician George Craig and even teamed up with him for his band's "Say You Don't Want It" music video.

T-Mobile G2 gets an early unboxing

T-Mobile's official street date for the G2 is Wednesday next week, but we knew some pre-orderers would be getting the phone early, and it looks like we've already got an unboxing to show for it. Rugged, free-spirited tipster Silverwolfe did the honors, and even managed to size the phone up against the original G2 while he was at it. Check out a few shots below, or hit up the source link for the full gallery.

Demi Lovato Admits She's Keeping Up With a Kardashian!

Demi Lovato is definitely keeping up with the Kardashians!

When asked who her style icon was at Arcade Boutique's Autumn Party last night in L.A., Demi didn't hesitate to name Kim Kardashian.

"She is a friend of mine and she has an incredible body and she dresses to fit it," Demi explained, "I always try to do the same."

But Kim isn't the Kardashian that Demi's been spotted hanging out with lately:

Demi was snapped bowling last week with Rob Kardashian, 23.

Rob also reportedly took his little sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner to Demi's L.A. concert.

No word on whether these two are just friends or romantic, but Demi did say that touring with ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas wasn't weird.

"No, it's great!" she said a little too quickly. Hmmm. Maybe she's a little annoyed that Joe's already meeting his new girl Ashley Greene's fam?

And for any fans of Demi's music, she says her new album will be out next spring.

Heidi Klum Leaves Victoria's Secret After 13 Years

Heidi Klum is hanging up her angel wings.

The 37-year-old mother of four has left Victoria's Secret, she tells the New York Post.

"All good things have to come to an end," she says. "I will always love Victoria and never tell her secret. It's been an absolute amazing time!"

Klum has had many notable moments on the runway: Last year, she strutted around in her skivvies just five weeks after giving birth to daughter Lou.

"I am excited," she told Us at the time. "I'm keeping it all together."

Even though her catwalk days are kaput, Klum is has plenty of work on her plate.

She is host of Lifetime's Project Runway and is debuting an activewear collection for New Balance this month.

She also will be running after her four children, Henry, 5; Johan, nearly 4; Lou, 1, as well as a 6-year-old daughter, Leni.

Klum can currently be seen baring all in her husband Seal's new video, "Secret."

Disney's 'Tron: Legacy' and 'Tangled' event makes for some rather enjoyable whiplash

When I say the words “a Disney movie,” I think we can agree that we all have a pretty clear vision of what I’m talking about: Family friendly, bright, adventurous, bold themes, big characters, obvious marketing tie-ins, etc. Well, last night I attended a special event showcasing two big Disney movies slated for the holiday season: Tangled (Nov. 24) and Tron: Legacy (Dec. 17). And while both films live up to all those aforementioned Disney movie traits, I am hard pressed to think of a more jarring double-feature I’ve experienced outside of a major film festival. The whiplash of going from a dark-and-glossy futuristic action adventure epic scored by Daft Punk to a storybook musical about a teenage girl with a lustrously magical mane of blonde hair is something I will not soon forget.

The evening started with footage from Tron: Legacy — first its 3-D trailer, and then about 20-or-so minutes of completed scenes in 2-D, all from what appear to be the film’s first and second acts. Many of these scenes fill in the missing bits already glimpsed in the movie’s gonzo trailers: Bruce Boxleitner’s character telling Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) that he got a page from the old arcade owned by his long-missing father Kevin (Jeff Bridges); Sam going to said arcade and getting sucked into the grid; Sam getting his black light suit and memory disc by a quartet of sleek, white-suited “sirens”; and Sam battling in a to-the-death disc game that he wins, but just barely. Just about all of this footage was also featured at the movie’s Comic-Con panel in July, but last night we were privy to two more tantalizing scenes: Sam escaping the games with the mysteriously chirpy Quorra (Olivia Wilde), and Sam’s emotional reunion with his now-monkish, vacant father.

Google's 'goo.gl' URL shortener open to the public

Google's URL shortening service is now open to the world through a new Web site.

In an age of 140-character communication and mobile devices, URL shorteners are a godsend. However, the most popular third-party ones, such as Bit.ly and TinyURL, are run by smaller companies that aren't guaranteed to stick around for the long run: Google's Matt Cutts said today the company needed to develop its own "goo.gl" URL shortener "for its own products where we knew the shortener wouldn't go away."

So last December, Google started making goo.gl URLs available through the Google Toolbar, and it's now making the service available to anyone with a Web browser at goo.gl, Google announced in a blog post. "We don't intend to overload goo.gl with features, but we do want it to be the stablest, most secure, and fastest URL shortener on the Web," Googler's Muthu Muthusrinivasan said in the post.

More pictures and details of the Verizon Samsung Continuum leak

Just a few hours ago, the Samsung Continuum for Verizon was leaked via a few pictures. But as leaks seem to increase in number more and more by the day, we now have more (and better quality) pictures of this upcoming dual-screen Android smartphone from Big Red.

Along with the pictures, a few details about the handset’s internals have been made clear. The Continuum will indeed be a Galaxy S phone, its processor will be the same 1 GHz Hummingbird unit seen in all previous incarnations of the Galaxy S brand. RAM will be 336 MB and the display will be Super AMOLED (a bit of a surprise in light of recent rumors).

The “Ticker” display is in fact a Super AMOLED touchscreen as well. You can swipe it from side to side to view different types of updates. If you tap an update the main screen will turn on and show you details.

Tell You A Secret – Even With Facebook Integration, Ping Will Still Be A Disaster

Much has been said about Apple’s foray into “social networking” (at least into what they consider that term to entail) with the introduction of Ping, part of the company’s iTunes software.

Some are positive about its chances, saying it is merely the seed of amazing things to come, others much less so.

I concur with the latter group and deem the product to be horse dung, 160 million potential users be damned.

Yes, they recently did make it a thousand times better when they added the ability to like / share a song you’d already purchased in the past.

But that only tells me just how badly it reeked before that (I’m actually quite positive some people at Apple got stomped for not adding support for Ping within users’ existing iTunes libraries from the get-go – at least I should hope so).

And it appears to me that it’s still a feature no one quite seems to have been waiting for.

Yes, you say, but had Facebook and Apple not jointly pulled the plug on Facebook integration at the last minute, I’d see things more clearly. I would realize how awesome it will be once you can actually connect with your real friends, transfer music recommendations and share purchases in and out of Ping, courtesy of Facebook.

HP names former SAP exec as new CEO

HP has just named its new CEO and President, former CEO of SAP, Léo Apotheker. Mr. Apotheker, who was with SAP for over 20 years, will also join HP's Board of Directors. His elections are to take effect November 1st. The decision has been expected since Mark Hurd's dramatic exit in August, though Mr. Apotheker's name was not one widely circulated as being in the running. The company has simultaneously named Ray Lane as the Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Emma Thompson in talks for 'Men In Black III'

Emma Thompson, who most recently reprised her role as Nanny McPhee, is in talks to join Will Smith and team for Men In Black III. The 51-year old actress would play the head of the MIB operation, should the deal go through.

Thompson is no stranger to the tent pole, having played Professor Trelawney in the Harry Potter movies. Men in Black III is scheduled to go before cameras in November with Barry Sonnenfeld returning to direct a script by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) . The 3-D movie is already slated to bow Memorial Day weekend 2012.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag Call Off Their Divorce

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are back together.

We are back together trying to make things work," the pair told PEOPLE.

"Costa Rica really put things in perspective. We do love each other and realized we do want to spend the rest of our lives together," they added.

"After spending time together over these past several months Heidi and Spencer have decided to reconcile," Montag's attorney explained.

Back in June, the reality starlet filed for legal separation from her husband. On July 30, she moved ahead with divorce papers, with Spencer himself filing for divorce in August.

Montag then moved to Costa Rica, where Pratt followed her recently. When the pair returned to the States, however, their romance seemed to be back on.

Google Wants to Kill JPEGs With New WebP Format

These pictures look the same—but they're not. Because the sign on the right, hypothetically, takes up nearly 40% less space. That's the version in WebP, Google's plan to speed up the internet by slimming down its images.

What is WebP? It's a new graphics format that Google hopes will make file transfers faster than currently possible with the relatively bulky JPEG standard. WebP, like JPEG, is a method of "lossy compression," meaning that it doesn't perfectly reproduce images, but gives you a choice between file size and picture quality. THere are important differences between the two, though, according to Google:

Shoujo Jidai’s (SNSD) ‘Gee’ album cover revealed - Update MV Teaser

Last week it was confirmed after much speculation that Shoujo Jida (SNSD) would release their 2nd Japanese single, ‘Gee’, on October 20th. The track was acutally leaked and now the album cover has been revealed.

Ver./Japanese Ver.), 2. Gee (韓国語 Ver./Korean Ver.) and 3. Gee (Without Main Vocal).

Microsoft and AT&T to unveil Windows Phone 7 handsets October 11?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that, “Microsoft Corp. will unveil a lineup of smartphones using the revamped version of its mobile operating system on Oct. 11,” and that AT&T will begin selling said devices in early November. Microsoft does have an event planned for October 11 — Columbus Day — in New York City (which we will be at), but we’re not sure any significant announcements will be made at the open-house style event. Perhaps there is another, mysterious event planned for that day? We’ll try to dig up some more information and report back.

Apple TV can play 1080p content from iTunes, but still only outputs 720p

The header says it all folks. We just ran some tests on the AppleTV's playback limits by streaming 1080p movie trailers in iTunes and managed to verify murmurs saying the device can accept 1080p content. Unfortunately, output is a different story, since it downscales the image back to 720p on your display. Yes it's a little frustrating -- especially since it's predecessor was up to the challenge -- but it should at least comfort those with a massive library of 1080p videos who were worried about reconverting for their new black box. Considering the hardware gems discovered in the AppleTV teardown however, we're still holding out for the jailbreak community to let us play our 1080p files, and display them too. Oh, and if they could get to work on Super-Hi Vision support at some point, well, that'd be just dandy.

Analyst: 3DS U.S. launch in April, to cost $250

Nintendo says it will release its 3DS portable gaming device to U.S. and Europe in March, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter isn't convinced.

Speaking in an interview with gaming blog Joystiq, Pachter said that based on "how Nintendo does things," he doesn't believe it's "remotely possible they're launching [the 3DS in the] first half of March."

"I'm getting it gets delayed until April in Europe and U.S.," Pachter said.

Pachter also isn't convinced that the 3DS, which allows gamers to play in 3D without requiring 3D glasses, will be sold in the U.S. and Europe for the $300 price tag Nintendo plans for the Japanese market. In fact, he believes Nintendo will charge $50 less for the device in Western markets.

"I know people who haven't played a handheld in forever--I'm talking guys who play Halo and Call of Duty 24/7 and nothing else--and they all want one," Pachter told Joystiq. "I think Nintendo will charge $250 and people will pay it."

Pachter said Nintendo will likely sell 3DS titles for $34.99.

So far, Nintendo has been relatively tight-lipped on key details about the U.S. and Europe 3DS launch. The company announced yesterday that the device will be available at the end of February in Japan for $300, and it plans to launch it in the U.S. and European markets in March. It didn't provide an exact release date or a launch price.

Cave girl Gaga sports hairy cape and fishnets for intimate gig in New York's Oak Room

Lady Gaga is no stranger to randomly popping up in small pubs and bars and last night she performed a surprise gig in New York City’s Oak Room.

The singer strolled into the tiny bar half naked with only a cape made of hair and fishnet tights to cover her modesty.

A spokesperson for the bar told the MailOnline: ‘There were no tickets sold, she sang three songs as a surprise gig because she’s friends with the musician we have on Wednesdays, Brian Newman.

‘She stayed for about an hour but photos were not permitted. Her entourage watched out for that and flashed a light at anyone taking pictures.’

The bar updated their Twitter page just before Gaga’s arrival, posting: ‘Lady Gaga here tonight. Maybe we’ll get a serenade in The Oak Bar tonight!’

And the 24-year-old left her headpieces at home for the night, instead arriving with long platinum blonde hair and minimal make-up, wearing only eye-liner and mascara.

HTC Spark leaked in the wild, shows off plenty of WP7 goodness

Well, it was only a matter of time -- first the leaked press shots of this elusive HTC Spark (although possibly misidentified as the Mondrian back then -- note the shinier earpiece in the leaked AT&T ad), and now the real thing is in the hands of some lucky hardware tester. Fortunately for us, this guy also happens to have a naughty friend over at xda-developers -- you'll see in his photos that HTC Hub is alive and well, but otherwise, there's not much info coming out of here. Regardless, feel free to head over to the source link for more Windows Phone 7 eye candy -- you'll need to register first, though, so we've grabbed a few shots below to get things going.

Well, it looks like CL’s wish is getting closer to fulfillment, as 2NE1’s ‘To Anyone’ is ranked #7 on the Billboard World Albums Chart!

Ahoy me hearties! Pirates of the Caribbean crew swap the high seas for the River Thames as Johnny Depp films in London

The presence of a Hollywood heartthrob on home turf is always going to be cause for excitement.

But even more so when dear old England is going to play a major role in his next movie.

Johnny Depp, reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, is currently filming scenes for Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides in Greenwich's Old Royal Naval College.

The area surrounding the college has undergone a transformation to create a realistic backdrop of London as it was 350 years ago.

Streets have been covered with gravel and sand, and modern buildings have either been covered with blue screens - to overlay special effects on to later - or had wooden structures built around them.

iPad and Chromium OS dance on video

Oh Hexxeh, you sly tease. Yesterday, we saw the Chromium OS impresario post up an image of Google's browser-centric environment running around inside Apple's iPad and today he's followed it up with a video. Unfortunately, it's not the best performance demo in the world and is all too brief, but it does show touch sensitivity (kinda) functioning and -- the strongest evidence that we're no longer using iOS -- a mouse cursor! Join us after the break as we follow the fascinating journey of an attempted Spotify Extension installation in Chrome.

Ethan Ruan is "fated" to return as a drunken man?

All eyes are on Ethan Ruan after his breakout role in the hit movie “Monga”. He has yet to take on any new projects since then, and was said to have turned down many offers. The latest rumor suggests he will be playing the “Monkey King” in the Stephen Chow-produced film “大話西遊之三藏伏魔 (A Chinese Odyssey Part 3)”. Ethan Ruan’s manager denied it saying the actor is indeed close to signing onto a movie, but not Stephen Chow’s.

SETTV also hopes Ethan Ruan can save them from their ratings misery. The network's executive VP Su Li Mei (蘇麗媚) announced two big-budget idol dramas for next year including the 2nd installment of “Fated to Love You” titled “醉後決定愛上你 (roughly translates to ‘Drunken to Love You’)”. His manager along with Joe Chen(Qiao En)’s are open to the idea if their schedules can accommodate and they are satisfied with the script. However, Su hasn't officially offered the roles yet because she is "afraid of being turned down!"

Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in harrowing scenes for US police drama as a victim of rape

She's packed plenty of TV credits into her 31 years.

But to date she's never tackled a role this gritty.

The episode of police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt as a guest star aired in the US last night and the scenes were highly distressing.

The former Ghost Whisperer star played a battered and bruised woman, Vicki Sayers, who has been brutally raped by the same man over a period of fifteen years.

She is too scared to submit to a rape kit as the man has stalked and terrorised her since she was sixteen years old.

Android appeal grows amid Apple slump claim researchers

The latest set of smartphone metrics is out, and it’s likely to spawn another bout of Apple/Google arguments over whose platform is the most appealing and keeps users the happiest. ChangeWave questioned 4,000 smartphone owners and would-be owners, and found that in the three month period between their last survey in June 2010 and their new September 2010 figures, the percentage of people looking to buy an iOS device like the iPhone fell from 50-percent to 38-percent, while the number preferring to buy an Android device rose from 30-percent to 37-percent.

That 7-percent shift is, in fact, the latest jump in what’s apparently been a six-fold increase in Android consumer preference over the course of twelve months. iOS saw a spike in popularity after the iPhone 4 launch, but then fell again afterwards.

However, Android isn’t ticking every box quite yet, at least according to ChangeWave’s findings. In cellphone satisfaction, 74-percent of iPhone buyers said they were “very satisfied” with their current device, whereas only 65-percent of Android handset owners said the same. That still puts them both significantly ahead of Palm, RIM and Windows Mobile, however.

Jerry Yan reveals almost sordid past

Pop idol says that he "nearly became a gigolo"

If not for his mum, singer Jerry Yan would probably be a gigolo instead of the pop idol he is today.

"Because I'm good at peeling grape skins, I had the potential to be a gigolo," joked Jerry Yan at the recording of Chinese variety show, Fei Chang Jing Ju Li.

"I nearly went astray when I was young. If not for my mum who brought me back to the right path, there wouldn't be me today. "

Currently in China for promotions of his latest pictorial book, which reportedly took five years to produce, Jerry talked at lengths about his family.

As a child from a single-parent family, the pop star felt that he never knew how to love somebody, and also added that he shared a "sibling-like" relationship with his divorcee mum.

"In certain aspects, I'm more like an older brother (to my mum)," he quipped.

The star also revealed that he felt like he has failed in all his relationships.

"Even if I wanted to, I don't know how to express my love sometimes. I only know how to carry all burdens on my shoulder," he said.

To maintain Jerry's idol image, his surprising revelation will not be aired on television. However, raw clips of the recording have since gone viral.
