Shia LaBeouf Carey Mulligan Breakup?

Stick a fork in ‘em: Add Young Hollywood cuties Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan to the brigade of celebrity couples giving Cupid in the finger.

Word on The Curb has it that Carey has moved back to her native Britain after cooling her relationship with LaBeouf.

Apparently, Autumn is not the season for lovers.

Distance is believed to be the determining factor in the reported LaBeouf-Mulligan split. While Carey was spending a lot of time across the pond promoting her film projects, Shia was Stateside, shooting scenes for the upcoming Transformers film. Their grueling work schedules reportedly kept the lovers separated for weeks at a time.

London-born Mulligan relocated to New York last year when she began dating the curly-topped action star during the filming of Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, but the twentysomething is now back in Britain after putting her love life on hold, informants-in-the-know tell The New York Post.

“I’m moving back to England; it’s a long story. I am spending more time here at the moment. Just spending time with my family, really,” Mulligan told Britain’s Daily Telegraph this week.

HTC Goes Off-Piste With Forest Green Gratia Android Phone

Have you ever seen an Android like this before? Unfortunately it's only destined for Europe, and while the specs aren't quite as high as HTC's recent Androids, it's running Froyo and comes in three delicious colors.

Really, it's no contest though—that forest green is just too nice for words. I'd love to see them roll that colorway out across some of their other models, like the Desire range, if possible.

The Gratia has a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 display, and will include a 600Mhz processor, 512MB ROM and 384MB RAM, and has a 5MP camera on the back, with a VGA cam lurking on the front there. It's got all the usual features too, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a g-sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and microSD card slot. It weighs 115 grams, and measures 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.7 mm. It'll be on sale in November, across Europe.

Toshiba REGZA IS04 Android phone packs 12.19MP camera

Toshiba has outed its latest smartphone, and it’s the second KDDI Android handset for the Japanese market that we’ve been envious of within the space of a month. The Toshiba REGZA IS04 doesn’t have the high-resolution display of the Sharp IS03 – it gets a 4-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen instead – but what it does have is a 12.19-megapixel autofocus camera.

Keeping things moving is a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, paired with WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1, and the smartphone is waterproof and has a microSDHC card slot. It uses a new EVDO system, too, promising up to 9.2Mbps downlinks and 5.5Mbps uplinks.

In fact the only thing stopping us from weeping openly is the fact that the Toshiba REGZA IS04 will arrive in January 2011 running just Android 2.1, which is already behind the times and, by then, will be well superseded. It’s part of three new KDDI Android devices announced today. No word on any potential North American/European release.

Rain embroiled in a lawsuit for gambling debt

Hallyu star Rain is being sued for debts related to gambling after borrowing a large sum of money from a Korean-American while gambling at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.

According to Andrew Kim (28), Rain borrowed $150,000 USD from him in June of 2007 in order to play baccarat at the Bellagio hotel. Explaining the reason behind his decision to file a lawsuit, Mr. Kim stated, “Three years have passed and he has yet to repay me.”

The plaintiff also stated that Rain has severe gambling problems, betting up to $10,000 at a time while playing baccarat in luxurious hotels. Sports Seoul met with Andrew Kim and his lawyers in LA on the 8th, and also spoke with various casino representatives in the area.

Metal iPhone 4 Cover Protects Your iPhone 4 Without the Bulk of a Case

The iPhone 4's glass backing is remarkably fragile—even moreso than the other iPhone models. If you'd like to keep it protected without making the phone bulky with a case, consider replacing the back with this metal back cover instead.

For a mere $12, you can save your iPhone from accidents by replacing the back cover with this nice, beveled metal one. There are, of course, others floating around the net, but tech blog Unplgged recommends this one for its low price, beveled back, and super easy installation—all it takes is a bit of unscrewing (and it looks pretty darn good too). I still wouldn't be too casual about dropping your iPhone, but if you're prone to accidents and don't like big cases, this is another great way to go.

Facebook apps 'leaking details to advertisers'

Interesting. Certain Facebook apps (ahem, Farmville) are sharing user info. Maybe that big Jobs-Zuckerberg sit down two weeks ago was a scolding about privacy and user experience? Probably not. In any event the sharing goes against Facebook's own rules.

The report arrives this evening thanks to reporting done over at the Wall Street Journal. In their report, we learn that "tens of millions" of users could be affected, mostly thanks to popular apps created by Facebook games mega developer Zynga. Yes, virtual farmers, this includes your precious Farmville app!

The shared info includes Facebook user IDs, which advertisers and other tracking firms can use to look up user's names and other info on the social network. Oh, and even if you didn't use Farmville or Texas Hold'em, you are still vulnerable, as the breach allows third parties to view the friend lists of affected users and get your information that way. Swell!

Facebook has not yet responded to calls for comment, from the WSJ, CNET or otherwise. In the meantime, lock down those farms, people. [WSJ]

Lin Chiling botches live singing attempt at Taipei concert

Taiwan supermodel Lin Chiling should probably stick to the catwalk if her performance at the Taipei International Flora Exposition Concert in Taipei on Sunday is any indication of where her talents lie.

She sang the song "Beautiful Strength", which she wrote the lyrics for, live on stage with about 30 children but went out of tune on a number of occasions.

Originally slated to lip-synch the song, Lin ended up singing live after the encouragement of the production crew.

When asked how she rated her performance, Lin, who donned a flowing white gown adorned with flower-themed ornaments for the concert, became a little embarrassed.

"I don't dare to give myself a mark; I actually hoped to go on stage and just do a runway show," said the 36-year-old model, before finally admitting that she felt she earned "a passing grade".

Other performers at the concert, which was held to create buzz for the Taipei International Flora Exposition (TIFE) that opens on November 6, included Asian superstar Jay Chou, Taiwan pop trio S.H.E and rock band Mayday.

The TIFE will feature 1,500 species of plants from all over Taiwan in a specially designed showroom.

Taiwan's first energy-saving smart greenhouse will also be on display.

X Factor: Katy Perry is a right cracker as she performs new single Firework in a sparkly catsuit

With judges Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue and the contestants battling in the fashion stakes in last night's X Factor, Katy Perry needed to go the extra mile to stand out.

So when the American singer took to the stage to perform her new single Fireworks, there was no missing her in a eye-wateringly right sparkly catsuit.

In keeping with the song's title, the Lycra bodysuit was covered in glittery firework designs as she danced around to a backdrop of spectacular pyrotechnics.

It was somewhat a return to the show for Ms Perry, who stepped in as a guest judge at the Dublin auditions last summer while Dannii Minogue was on maternity leave.

Kristen Stewart: Screamed Last Night, Looked Hot Doing It

Yes, Kristen Stewart was at Spike TV's Scream Awards last night!

There was some confusion at the start of the evening because her name had been taken off the media tip sheet, but...

Turned out she just wasn't able to make it to the arrivals in time. Why? Well, she'd been in Louisiana for about a day and a half rehearsing Breaking Dawn with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, so she was jetted in by private plane and made it to the Scream soiree with mere minutes to spare.

I'm told she landed in L.A. (Rob and Taylor stayed back for BD), hightailed it to a hotel for hair and makeup and slipped into a fab Guishem minidress and a pair of uh-maze-ing Giuseppe Zanotti heels. She then rushed over to the Greek Theatre, where she had a few minutes to hang in the VIP area (she and Nikki Reed gave each other a big hug) with the absolutely gorgeous Green Lantern duo Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds before running on stage to accept her shiny black statuette for Best Fantasy Actress from hunky Batman star Aaron Eckhart (more on him and his new movie, Battle: Los Angeles, later on).

Stewart returned to the VIP area, where she smoked cigs in a corner with a couple of suits and warmed herself under one of those portable heaters. She waved hello to Emma Roberts who was also puffin' away on cigs and chatting on a staircase landing with Scream 4 costars Neve Campbell and suddenly-single David Arquette and their director Wes Craven.

Experts Worry Toddlers Are Becoming iPhone Addicts

For some toddlers today the venerable "toys of choice" are not dolls or blocks, but iPhones. Experts worry their development is hampered by this "screen time." I'm inclined to argue every generation has its vices and parents need to parent.

Touchscreens and ultra-portable communication devices are the inevitable future, you see, and as long as little Susie isn't staring into a screen for six hours at a time like a little pink zombie, what's the harm in her becoming acclimated with the tools she'll be immersed in when she's older?

But lest you be distracted from the research by my unhinged ranting, here's what's happening with the toddler sect today, according to a series of interviews on toddlers and iPhone usage in the New York Times:

Natasha Sykes, a mother of two in Atlanta, remembers the first time her daughter, Kelsey, now 3 1/2 but then barely 2 years old, held her husband's iPhone. "She pressed the button and it lit up. I just remember her eyes. It was like ‘Whoa!'" [...] Kelsey would ask for [the iPhone]. Then she'd cry for it. "It was like she'd always want the phone," Ms. Sykes said. After a six-hour search one day, she and her husband found the iPhone tucked away under Kelsey's bed. They laughed. But they also felt vague concern. Kelsey, and her 2-year-old brother, Chase, have blocks, Legos [sic], bouncing balls, toy cars and books galore. ("They love books," Ms. Sykes said.) But nothing compares to the iPhone. "If they know they have the option of the phone or toys, it will be the phone, " Ms. Sykes said.

"Absolute Boyfriend" actress Goo Hye Sun: Wu Chun is hotter than Lee Min Ho!

South Korean Goo Hye Sun made the most of her three day stay in Taiwan following her press conference with Fahrenheit member and fellow co-star Wu Chun for the upcoming live action adaptation of "Absolute Boyfriend". During her time with the muscular hunk, the pair had the chance to spend some quality time together to get to know each other over a meal of hot pot. One of the notable highlights of that particular dinner was when Wu Chun showcased his gentlemanly skills in picking out the highly delicious crab meat and offering it to his South Korean guest.

Following the time Hye Sun spent with her future robot love, the Korean actress took the time to meet with 150 of her fans as she played interactive games and gave out personal tokens such as used perfume (translator's note: WTF?) and an expired personal ID. When the host of the fan meet-and-greet posed the question "Is Wu Chun more handsome than ["Boys Over Flowers" co-star] Lee Min Ho" to Hye Sun, the actress immediately admitted, "Yes!" When followed up with the question as to whether she felt that her answer would offend her previous "Boys" co-star, Hye Sun replied, "If he knew about this, I think he would be a bit sad."

Did Justin Bieber Punch a Boy at a Laser Tag Center?

Did an innocent night of laser tag in Canada turn into a nasty brawl for Justin Bieber?

Canada's CBC News reported late Saturday that the heartthrob, 16, was kicked out of a laser tag center in Richmond, British Columbia after punching a 12-year-old boy.

According to the report, the "Somebody to Love" singer, who has a Vancouver show on Tuesday, arrived with an entourage of 14 at the facility. Staff members told CBC that the star was followed around and targeted during the game.

TMZ claims that Bieber (who was photographed at the center Friday) was bullied and taunted with homophobic slurs.

A member of Royal Canadian Mounted Police tells UsMagazine.com: "On Friday around 5:30 p.m. we got a report that a 12-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted at an entertainment facility in Richmond. The boy sustained minimal injuries and did not require medical attention. We are continuing our investigation." No other info will be released at this time, the spokesperson added.

Due to the fact that both parties involved in the alleged fight are under the age of 18, their identities will not be publicly disclosed, according to Canadian law.

Of reports that the older child in the incident was called a "f***ot," Corporal Annie Linteau tells Us, "Until we conduct our investigation, I can't comment on that."

Bieber's rep told TMZ Friday that the assault report was "absolutely untrue."

Limera1n and Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreaks now available for Mac, Linux

We thought it was a wee bit ridiculous that Geohot's original iOS 4.1 jailbreak only worked on Windows, but that's a thing of the past now -- limera1n now supports Mac as well, and the Chronic Dev Team's greenpois0n variant can purportedly free your device from the Apple shackles of any of OS X, Linux or Windows. Mind you, there's still no working carrier unlock for iOS 4.1, so be sure to back up your baseband and don't expect to be making calls on T-Mobile USA -- and remember kids, there are always risks to playing chicken with the Apple firmware train.

TVXQ’s Changmin and Yunho preparing for official comeback next month

TVXQ’s Changmin and Yunho are preparing for a comeback! It’s been reported that they’ve completed recording the songs for their newest single, and are rehearsing the choreography. The representative also revealed that the single is due for release by the middle of next month.

The two will deliver their activities as a duet, having already performed “Maximum” together on August 21st. Unlike JYJ, who are currently opting to promote as a trio on their own, the representative stated that Changmin and Yunho will most likely perform under the name of TVXQ.

Their Japanese agency, Avex, has also announced that it is would be possible for the duo to return to the Japanese market as well.

Regarding their fans’ increasing concerns over the clearer 3:2 divide, a representative revealed, “The friendship between the five has never changed. They may be walking separate paths, but now is the time that they need their fans’ support more than ever.”

Jay Chou makes his first response on "VJ Love"

After the “earth shattering” Double J reunion back in June, Jolin Tsai and her recently rumored male model boyfriend Vivian Dawson have been making news headlines. The two have been spotted several times together by the media – going to the gym, going bowling, and other activities that couples would do. Jolin’s previously rumored boyfriend Jay Chou has been busy with work outside of Taiwan, escaping the media.

Jay has had a busy schedule. Last week, he flew to America to take part in the post production of his upcoming movie, “The Green Hornet”, and in the past few days, he has been performing in the Mainland. Jay rushed back to Taiwan on the 17th in order to perform at the Taipei International Flora Expo concert. The media took the opportunity to ask about his thoughts on “VJ Love”, and he replied, “(We) need to give them room.”

Jackass 3-D''s Explosive $50 Million Opening

Johnny Knoxville and his "Jackass" gang are even bigger hits in three dimensions.

"Jackass 3D," their latest big-screen collection of crazy stunts and antics, opened with a whopping $50 million, soaring past the debuts of their first two movies, according to studio estimates Sunday.

It was the third-straight No. 1 opening for Paramount's franchise, which launched with a $22.8 million opening for 2002's "Jackass: The Movie" and continued with a $29 million debut for 2006's "Jackass Number Two."

This was the first 3-D outing for Knoxville and his pals, and it was a natural for "what they do. They don't use it as a gimmick. It's seamless in their stunts," said Don Harris, Paramount executive vice president for distribution. "When some guy gets hit in the crotch with a baseball in 2-D, it's one thing, but when he's kind of up in your face and it happens, it's another experience."

"Jackass 3D" set a record for biggest October debut, topping the $48.1 million opening weekend for "Scary Movie 3" in 2003. "Scary Movie 3" sold more tickets than "Jackass 3D," though, factoring in ticket-price inflation and the premium charge for 3-D screenings, which cost a few dollars more than 2-D movies.

Intel, Microsoft, and the curious case of the iPad

"That tablet thing? Yeah, we'll get back to you on that." That's a crude but fairly accurate encapsulation of the attitude Microsoft, Intel, and Advanced Micro Devices have toward the iPad and the tablet market in general.

Why the cavalier attitude? Before I defer to the opinion of an IDC analyst I interviewed (below), here's one pretty obvious reason I'll put forward. All three companies look at their revenue streams--traditional PC hardware and software on laptops, desktops, and servers--and come to the conclusion that the tablet is a marginal market. A deceptively accurate conclusion, because at this point in time--and even 12 months out--the tablet is marginal compared with the gargantuan laptop, desktop, and server markets.

And listening to both Intel's and AMD's earnings conference calls this week, it's clear that relative nonchalance is the prevailing attitude. While Intel's CEO did address the iPad directly, he later opined that the tablet "numbers...are relatively small in the grand scheme of the ship rate of the PC, notebook, and Netbook businesses." A variation on a theme he's stated during past conference calls. And AMD's CEO went so far to say that the tablet doesn't even warrant R&D spending yet.

Angry Birds for Android gets over 1 million downloads in 1 day

There is no denying the Angry Birds phenomenon. Rovio Mobile, the developers behind the multi-platform Angry Birds app, have just announced a staggering stat — over 1 million Android downloads in 1 day. Following yesterdays launch, GetJar had brief outages due to overwhelming traffic. Android users were told: “The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later”. iOS users have had the one up on their Android counterparts for a while now. However, with these impressive numbers, and given Android’s growing smartphone market-share, there seems to be no stopping the avian juggernauts.

Motorola asks court to invalidate Apple patents, preempt another lawsuit

The smartphone intellectual property wars are seriously heating up, as Motorola sided with HTC this week in an effort to cover its own rear. Remember those twenty patents Apple aimed at the Taiwanese OEM? Motorola says they're no good, and is trying to get them thrown out of court -- an important tactic, because if the patents do hold water and are successfully used against HTC, Apple might turn around and sue Motorola with them too. That's because there's more at stake here than OEM phones, but Android as a whole, and as such other manufacturers that implement Android might potentially be targets as well. Oh, and don't think this is Motorola's first salvo in the arena, either -- it's also suing Apple outright to get the point across, and is similarly being targeted by Microsoft for smartphone patents of its own. We're just two guns shy of a Mexican standoff, folks.

Fish Leong and Van Ness Wu becoming new label-mates at Universal Music

After Fish Leong’s contract ended with Bin Music, she went to Ge Fuhong’s management company. Many record companies have been negotiating a record deal with the songstress, but it has just been announced that Fish will be joining Universal Music, becoming label-mates with veteran singers Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan. Fish plans to release a new album by the end of the year and it is estimated that album sales will start from one million copies across the Mainland, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. In addition to album sales, Fish’s 100+ live show performances per year will bring in about a hundred million dollars – it’s likely that her signing bonus will be around this amount although Universal Music refuses to verify.

Fish’s manager Jiang Yi-Peng expressed, “(We) cannot reveal the amount of the signing bonus. (We) hope that we can reach this sum in the future.”

In addition to Fish, Van Ness Wu will also be signing with University Music. The record company will be holding an official press conference in Hong Kong on the 25th and 26th for their signing.

SNSD Jessica’s Twitter account suspended due to anti-fans

Just three days after its creation, SNSD’s Jessica had her Twitter account suspended due to anti-fans.

The account (twitter.com/jess_syj) opened on October 13th, and it’s speculated that hordes of anti-fans falsely abused the “Report Spam” system. Users can find their accounts suspended if there are massive spam complaints sent to the “Help Centre”. Numerous anti-fans also blocked her profile.

On the plus side though, this incident reveals that the overseas popularity of SNSD has increased to a formidable presence over the years, as the group seems to have a proportional amount of haters to fans.

I guess this is just another reason why some celebrities don’t use Twitter.

Kathy Chow gets a call claiming as HK film executive - "accompany the boss" for the job

It's not new that actresses get rumored to be invited by a middleman to have dinner with some millionaire. Couldn't believe that even Kathy who has been in the industry for that long encounters such situation! Yesterday Kathy reveals on Weibo that recently she has received a phone call claiming that they are an executive from some HK film production company. The telephone conversation was along the lines of a "fake film production company executive" wanted to ask her if she wants to take part in a new film, but in fact she has to follow the "hidden rules" (in Mainland language, this means "accompany the boss" (or sleep), making Kathy very angry! Since she entered the industry, she's been adhering to the principles of life and has always been serious with her jobs.

Yesterday, the media phoned Kathy who is currently in Tianjin, asked what kind of "hidden rules" did this unlawful person wanted her to do? She said: "Accompany the boss!" When she received the phone call, the person claimed themselves as an executive from a HK film production company and asked her if she wants to participate in a film, but wanted her to "entertain" the boss. At first, Kathy thought that they were just talking about having meals with the boss and discuss about work, but then he directly said: "Accompany the boss!" Kathy had a rude awakening and quickly hung up!

When asked why she announced this incident, Kathy said that she hopes to warn everyone about this unlawful person that has no respect for others. She hopes that this person can really think about how wrong their actions is, nasty thoughts and will severely affect the next generation!
