Opera Mobile 10.1 for Android hits public beta

As promised, the boys and girls at Opera have pushed out an Android-flavored beta version of their Opera Mobile 10.1 product today -- and considering the company's track record for making awesome replacement browsers, odds are good that you're going to want to check it out. Besides pinch-to-zoom and support for location services, you'll find fan favorites like desktop browser sync and Opera's Speed Dial, a touchable grid of bookmarks. What's more, the visual tab management is downright slick (then again, outdoing the tab management in-built to Android doesn't take much), so you might want to take it for a test drive today -- can we suggest engadget.com as a fine starting point? The app's available from the Android Market right now; follow the break for the press release and an official demo of pinch-to-zoom in action. Or, you know, just download it and do some pinch-to-zooming of your own. Your call.

Kno prices tablet textbooks: $599 for single-screen, $899 for double

Looks like Kno kept to its "under $1,000" MSRP promise, after all, and by more than just a penny. The company says its flagship tablet textbook is still on track for release by the end of this year -- with limited available, at least -- tagged at $899 for the original double-screen model and $599 for the single-screener. Speaking to All Things D, CEO Osman Rashid estimates first-run production "in the thousands" and also claims ten as-of-now unnamed universities will be the first targets for the device. Less than eight weeks to go -- just worry about getting through fall semester finals for now.

That iPhone Is Burning a Hole In Your Pocket

What can we make of this credit card spending by smartphone platform data from Pageonce? That iPhone owners spend like crazy, and WinMo holdouts are probably saving up for a new phone, for starters.

The data was taken from a random sampling of 275,000 Pageonce users, and includes at least 5,000 users per platform. And it could mean a whole bunch of things! Either iPhone users spend more money on average, or they have more debt on average, or the simple averaging masks extreme expenditures at the high and low end. BlackBerry and iPhone are arguably the most commonly used enterprise phones, so that might have something to do with racking up higher monthly charges.

Facebook Finds A New Way To Liberate Your Gmail Contact Data

That huge sucking sound you hear is Facebook, piling data from third parties into its mouth as fast as it can while it remains stubbornly greedy about releasing its own data to anyone it doesn’t like. Which is mostly Google these days, since Yahoo and AOL completely surrendered and Microsoft actually owns part of them.

Google shut them down last week, restricting API access and effectively blocking contacts exports to Facebook in any automated way. This is, I wrote, the true beginning of data protectionism.

Now Facebook has found a way around that restriction. They’re leveraging a Google feature that lets users download their own data for their own use – part of Google’s golf-clap worthy data liberation effort. They’ve hacked a solution around the block by giving users a direct deep link to the download feature. And then users can upload that file directly to Facebook.

Can Google block this? One engineer I spoke with says yes, but it will be difficult: “If Google wanted to, they could block it immediately. it’s pretty simple. just put a CSRF token on the url to block deep linking but that might fuck up other CSV flows. Maybe they have an outlook importer or something. facebook really went aggressive here.”

It’s also a big middle finger to Google.

T-Mobile HTC HD7 sells out amid “strong interest”?

Anybody looking for block-spanning lines at the North American Windows Phone 7 launch yesterday would have been generally disappointed, but it seems sales have still be brisk. According to TmoNews, T-Mobile’s customer service team is now saying the HTC HD7 is on back-order, while customers are seeing messages on the carrier’s site saying “this item is not available for immediate shipment” when trying to order the 4.3-inch handset.

Of course, it’s unclear exactly how much stock T-Mobile had in of the HD7 in the first place, so it’s not conclusive proof that Windows Phone 7 has been a massive sales success. HTC told us prior to the Windows Phone 7 launch in Europe that, while the carriers had been more tentative in their enthusiasm for Microsoft’s new smartphone OS, the manufacturer was gung-ho and had been producing more devices than the operators said they wanted. If true, hopefully that means supplies to T-Mobile will be refreshed quickly.

Meanwhile, neither AT&T nor T-Mobile will give sales figures, but an AT&T spokesperson did tell SeattleTimes that they saw “lines in some of our markets across the nation” and that “there definitely was anticipation for the phone.” T-Mobile, meanwhile, said there had been “strong interest” in the platform.

B2ST’s “Lights Go On Again” places 1st on various music charts

Soon after Cube Entertainment released B2ST’s highly-anticipated 4th album,“Lights Go On Again,” it received the honor of placing first on various Korean music charts. Yet that wasn’t all.

Amazingly, the group managed to sweep up all top 5 spots on the charts – their main title track, “Beautiful”, came in at 1st place, while the album’s remaining four tracks nabbed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Furthermore, according to album sales site Hanteo, the group’s album sales also showed great success, as their sales figures ranked first.

Even during its composition stage, “Beautiful” was to be a song that could only fit B2st. Clearly that appears to be the case, as it’s helping the boys nab distinctions and honors left and right.

If you haven’t sampled their new sound yet, be sure to check it out here.

JJ Lin to return with a remake album of songs he wrote for female singers

It’s not a bad idea at all considering the massive amount of hits he has composed. We’ve seen him perform them in concerts and TV shows, but wouldn’t it be great to have them on an album? JJ Lin will finally return with a new release on December 8th after bombarding us with excess skin this summer. It features the title track “She Says” which he collaborated with Sun Yanzi, as well as 10 remakes of songs that he has previously written for female singers.

Check out these teasers:

Lindsay Lohan's Reunion With Her Father

After seven months of estrangement, Lindsay Lohan finally spent some time with her dad, Michael on Sunday--and RadarOnline.com has the exclusive photos. Lohan reunited with her father at the Betty Ford rehabilitation center in California.

The photos show Lindsay and Michael on a trip to a local mall in Palm Desert, California.

"Michael and Lindsay were at the mall for quite a while, but spent most of their time in a jewelry store," an eyewitness told RadarOnline.com. After dropping Lindsay off at the Betty Ford Center, Michael returned to the jewelry store. "He purchased something Lindsay had her eye on and seemed overjoyed by their reunion," the eyewitness said.

The reunion was a shocker, considering LiLo's recent comments to Vanity Fair -- "I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life," she said over the summer.

The reunion took place around 1PM Sunday at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, Radar writes. The site's source says Michael's visit came at Lindsay's invitation.

Zombie lovers rejoice!

The Walking Dead, AMC's new zombie series, has been renewed for a full 13-episode second season, the network has confirmed.

The undead apocalypse show debuted on Halloween to record-breaking ratings, and last night's second episode posted similarly impressive numbers.

TWD has also squashed worldwide ratings records for original series, with Fox International Channels screening the show in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

"I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one," FIC senior VP Sharon Tal Yguado said.

No-brainer zombies FTW!

Samsung confirms Continuum dual-display Android handset for Verizon

After a rather large complement of leaks, Samsung has finally confirmed its Continuum phone for Verizon, via Twitter of all places. The phone will ship on November 11th. Samsung is billing it as the "first phone with a dedicated ticker display," referring to the secondary 1.8-inch color screen below the capacitive touch buttons. There's a Samsung Mobile event happening at 6PM EST that will undoubtedly shed more light on this Android handset, but for now we expect the specs to be in line with other Galaxy S-series handsets. You know, except for the ticker part. Samsung is also proud to announce that it's shipped 3 million Galaxy S phones in the US, a sizable chunk of the 7 million or so sold globally so far.

Here's the feature breakdown:
  • 3.4-inch Super AMOLED primary display, 1.8-inch Super AMOLED secondary "ticker" display.
  • "Grip sensor" lets you touch the bottom sides of the phone to light up the ticker.
  • Android 2.1 (ouch).
  • Bing Maps / Bing Search (double ouch).
  • Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird processor.

Adobe’s Next Flash Excuse: If You Want To Save Power, Don’t Turn On Your Machine

Adobe Flash is under attack again. And you know what that means. Time for more complaining.

Today, Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch spoke with Fast Company about the most recent Flash controversy the company has had to deal with. Last week, a report revealed that the lack of Flash on the new MacBook Air may save as much as 2 hours of battery life on that machine. Several subsequent reports noticed the same or similar things. Lynch’s response? “It’s a false argument to make, of the power usage. When you’re displaying content, any technology will use more power to display, versus not displaying content.”

So displaying content uses more power than not displaying content? That’s really the argument he’s using? Why not just say: if your computer is on, it will use more power than if it’s not on?

But the real issue here isn’t really using Flash to display content. It’s that when Flash is just running in the background on websites, it is biting off a huge chunk of battery life — up to 33 percent. That’s ridiculous.

Dell Venue Pro on sale at Microsoft stores, but good luck getting one

So, just as was rumored, it seems Dell pushed a small handful of Venue Pros to Microsoft's seven flagship stores for sale today. We just spoke with a friendly rep who told us they were "going fast" and didn't sound too confident that we'd be able to get one by the time we got down there, but theoretically if we did, it'd be $199 for a new line (or an eligible upgrade) or $449 outright. If you manage to score one, that'll put you about a week ahead of everyone else -- they aren't expected to be available straight from Dell's site until the 15th. On a related note, Dell's website is showing two configurations for the phone -- an 8GB and a 16GB model -- though none of the stores we called could tell us which one they were stocking. Let's hope for 16, eh?

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace now home to 2,000 apps

Following concerns that Windows Phone 7 wouldn’t have enough titles support to satisfy the new wave of app-hungry smartphone users, Microsoft confirmed Monday that developer support has exceeded expectations. In a post on The Windows Phone Developer Blog, Microsoft’s Todd Brix announced that the Windows Marketplace for Mobile is now home to approximately 2,000 apps and games compatible with Windows Phone 7 devices. The figure is nearly double the company’s target, which was set last month. Microsoft also announced that the Marketplace is fully open to app submissions, and that it currently has 13,000 registered Windows Phone 7 developers. Windows Phone 7, which launched Monday in the U.S., is Microsoft’s attempt to reclaim consumer interest in its smartphones. Continued developer support is one of several keys to the success of the platform, and Microsoft certainly has an uphill battle ahead of it considering the massive app war chests held by Apple and Google.

Jay Chou expresses anger towards media's criticisms on Mr. J Channel

President Jay Chou is furious with the media regarding their criticisms on his new variety program, “Mr. J Channel”. He vented on his micro-blog, “As long as I’m not number one, you will say that I’ve slipped to the bottom of the pits. Did you guys not understand the lyrics in ‘Superman Can’t Fly’? Please understand it first before criticizing me on anything.”

As his first time hosting, Jay expressed that he would “let the ratings take its course and not get affected by it.” Recent reports have criticized Jay of “using old tricks” and “obtaining ratings by using Lin Chi-Ling’s butt” – a scene from their movie where Jay pushes Lin Chi-Ling on her bottom and the co-hosts joked that he did it on purpose. It has made Jay extremely upset and apologetic towards his guests for being innocently pulled into all this attention. The media also reported that Jay “expressed his affection for Lin Chi-Ling after a drink,” but JVR responded, “It was only to reenact a scene from the movie, it wasn’t a confession of love.”

Just wait till I'm 18! Miley Cyrus risqué frock exposes a little too much flesh

She's known for wearing increasingly daring outfits that belie her tender years - and going by last night's frock, it seems Miley Cyrus just can't wait until she's 18 to really sex things up.

The Disney star gave a glimpse of a bit more than she intended last night at the MTV EMAs in Madrid when she exposed most of her breast - as well as displaying a rather delicately placed tattoo.

Even though she's too young to go under the needle, Miley has ignored the law and got inked on at least six occasions.

Rihanna and Katy Perry enjoy cosy double date after the MTV awards

She was believed to have had a massive falling out with Rihanna after she missed her wedding to Russell Brand.

But Katy Perry is clearly the forgiving kind as she and her new husband joined her best friend and her boyfriend for a double date in Madrid last night.

Katy, 26, and her 35-year-old new husband dined out at an Italian restaurant with Rihanna, 22, and baseball star Matt Kemp, 26, after last night's MTV Europe Music Awards in the Spanish capital.

Katy was still wearing the green sparkly feathered dress that she wore to collect her award for Best Video for her hit single California Gurls, as she and Brand arrived at the restaurant.

Rumor: iPad 2 commercials already shot by Apple

There’s a new iPad rumor floating around and claiming that Apple has shot some ads for the iPad 2 somewhere in New York, with British photographer David Sims.

The rumor comes from 9to5mac, which, unfortunately, hasn’t managed to get too many details.

Interestingly, it’s said that no new iPads were used during filming. Apple simply used the current iPad model (pictured below), and it will replace it with the iPad 2 while post-producing the ads. That does make sense, as Apple certainly doesn’t want outsiders to see a product that won’t be announced until next year.

It’s not the first time we’re hearing about the next-generation iPad – we’ve previously heard that it would feature the same 9.7 inch display as the current model. This would allow Apple to easily replace the old iPad with the new one in the commercials that were supposedly shot last month, right? Right. Now let’s wait for more info to show up.

Jake Gyllenhaal Thinks It's Too Soon for Taylor Swift to See Him Naked

The whirlwind romance between Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift has been picking up steam recently, with the two seen holding hands and making out in NYC. But sources close to the actor tell me it's still way too early for Taylor to see Jake in his birthday suit, which is why Gyllenhaal hasn't invited the young singer to the premiere of his new film, 'Love and Other Drugs.'

"Jake is making no secret that he spends most of the film naked," a friend laughs. "In fact, you get to see so much of Jake in the original cut that the director made a few edits to try and take the focus off Jake's naked ass and back onto the story."

The fairy tale romance between Taylor and Jake has shown no signs of stopping, especially after Jake surprised Taylor last week by turning up as she pre-recorded five songs atop 230 Fifth Ave. for NBC's Thanksgiving Special.

"Taylor had two special visitors that night to wish her luck -- her mom and Jake," a witness tells me. "During her 55-minute set, Taylor took a 15-minute 'wardrobe change' break, but really she spent most of it backstage flirting with Jake. You can tell they are both really into each other, but are trying very hard to take everything slowly."

Which would explain why Jake isn't yet ready for his new girlfriend to see him naked just yet!

Christina Aguilera Tries to Keep New Love Interest Under Wraps

Christina Aguilera is rebounding – discreetly – from the collapse of her marriage to Jordan Bratman.

The superstar singer, 29, has quietly been seeing Matthew D. Rutler, a set assistant from her upcoming movie Burlesque – whom she tried to hide from the cameras Friday when they enjoyed a double date at SoHo House in Los Angeles with friends Nicole Richie and Joel Madden.

A friend tells PEOPLE that the relationship with Rutler started as a friendship, then turned into something more.

"It's not serious yet, but it's something she is exploring and finding comfort in," the friend says. "It's new and she’s taking it day by day. She and Jordan were having problems for a long time. What kept them together is their love for their son. She met [Matthew] on set and, during a difficult time, leaned on as a friend. After she and Jordan separated, the friendship turned romantic."

The friend adds that Aguilera's son Max, who'll be 3 in January, is still the singer's No. 1 priority. "Being a great mom to Max is the most important thing in her life," says the friend.

Aguilera makes her acting debut with Cher in Burlesque, a cabaret drama that opens Nov. 24.

Nokia E7 starts shipping December 10th

We can imagine that the wait's been an excruciating one for wannabe E7 owners who've been restraining themselves from buying an N8 instead... but the good news is that the wait isn't that much longer. Nokia has announced on Twitter today that the 4-inch tilting QWERTY handset -- a phone Espoo has labeled the true successor to the storied Communicator series -- will start shipping out on the 10th of next month, though exact availability dates and times will undoubtedly vary a bit from market to market. The company has been quick to note that today's wild Symbian Foundation news has no effect on the existing range of Symbian^3 devices being launched as we close out the year, so the question is: who's buying?

B2ST’s album “Lights Go On Again” released!

Just hours ago, the MV teaser for B2ST’s fourth mini-album, “Lights Go On Again,” was revealed. Now, as November 9th just hit Korea, the mini-album was made available for download via the music portals.

After a quick listen, the songs are very good and it looks like they have a nice hit on their hands with the title track ‘Beautiful’.

Check out some of the select tracks from the album below and remember to support the boys by purchasing the music. Also, keep an eye out for the full MV release.

SNSD’s ‘Hoot’ to become another national syndrome?

After just one week since their official comeback, symptoms of a nationwide ‘Hoot‘ syndrome are already showing, with SNSD currently taking the #1 spot of almost every music chart site, even on ring tone sites.

SNSD’s mini-album ‘Hoot’, which was unleashed on October 27th, has been ranked #1 on Hanteo, Hot Tracks, and other various other music online charts for two weeks in a row now, showing hints of another phase of SNSD’s dominance.

In addition, their title track ‘Hoot’ nabbed the #1 rank on the daily charts of music sites Dosirak, Bugs, Soribada, Monkey3 for the first week of November, and is still going strong in its 2nd week in first place. If that’s not enough, SNSD’s ‘Hoot’ is even topping the charts of SKT’s daily chart for ring tones, showing exactly how much the nation is becoming addicted to the hit song.

SNSD also won a K-Chart on KBS 2TV Music Bank on November 5th, as well as a ‘Mutizen’ award on SBS ‘Inkigayo’ on the 7th. Many are suspecting ‘Hoot’ to follow the successful footsteps of the group’s previous tracks, ‘Gee‘ and ‘Oh!’.

Aaron Yan films passionate bed scene with Serena Fang in "Gloomy Salad Days"

The director of currently airing Taiwanese idol drama "Gloomy Salad Days" recently praised the young and promising cast of the drama, including Aaron Yan and Serena Fang, but also lamented on Taiwan lacking a suitable film production environment catered specifically for young and aspiring actors.

As the dark idol drama is nearing the end of its six months of filming, lead actress Serena commented that she "had an empty feeling". On the other hand, fellow co-star Aaron gave a more optimistic reply by saying that the end of the filming is just an opportunity for a new start, and that he was looking forward to the chance of making a new spark.
