LG Star leaks, blows benchmarking out the water with Tegra 2

The LG Star has shown up in the wild, one of what’s likely to be the first wave of NVIDIA Tegra 2 powered Android smartphones. Ostensibly just another big-screen handset, what makes the Star interesting is its Quadrant benchmarking scores, run by tipster berryjuice at Android Forums, and which comfortably blow away rival devices with a 1759 rating.

Given NVIDIA’s emphasis on multimedia with Tegra 2, there’s unsurprisingly an HDMI port on the Star. Meanwhile there’s a WVGA capacitive touchscreen and a customized version of Android 2.2 Froyo, though of course there’s no word on what version the Star will run when it eventually launches.

We can hope that’s Gingerbread, the release of which is believed to be imminent, and which will hopefully bring further speed improvements to get the most out of the Star. Other hardware specifications are in short supply, as are release dates and price.

Filming for "Hayate the Combat Butler" shifts to Japan; George Hu gets called "ajusshi" by co-star Park Shin-hye

Production for upcoming GTV idol drama Hayate the Combat Butler is currently running smoothly, and this time the cast and crew of the GTV drama have crossed over the sea over to Japan in order to continue filming at specific locations. The scenes of the latest shooting takes place over in a theme park called Huis Ten Bosch, famous for its recreations of classic Dutch buildings and also named after an official residence located in the Netherlands.

In one particular scene which took place in front of a palace at the theme park, co-stars George Hu and Park Shin-hye were situated besides a pond, and as feelings of romance started to build in the scene, out of nowhere Shin-hye ruined the moment and called her older co-star by eight years an "ajusshi (uncle)". For those of you rough on your Korean, Shin-hye basically called her Taiwanese co-star an old dude out of the blue.

Being the good-termpered person that he is, the Taiwanese actor took his upgraded title of "ajusshi" in stride, and laughed it off instead of getting angry about it. "Oh, come on. She's just saying that I'm mature." Collaborating together with his Korean co-star for almost a month for this drama, George has managed to pick up some Korean words such as "yeo dongsaeng (little sister)", which is also a term of endearment towards a younger female. Georged added, "I can talk about it to her, that eight years is really huge (in age difference). The friends she has by her side are all the same age as her."

Super Junior’s Siwon doesn’t worry about comparisons to Big Bang’s T.O.P for ‘Athena’

Super Junior’s Siwon, who has been cast for the ‘IRIS‘ spin-off, titled ‘Athena: Goddess of War’, confessed that he is not worried about being compared with Big Bang’s T.O.P’s acting in ‘IRIS’.

During the press conference for the upcoming drama held earlier on November 30th, Choi Siwon expressed,

“Jung Woo Sun hyungnim said he does not stress about comparisons. I believe in that too, and I don’t think the actors of ‘IRIS’ will worry either.

The ‘IRIS’ actors received love because of their individual colors and charms. As T.O.P had a great impact in ‘IRIS’, I hope that my devotion in my role will also please the viewers.

In saying that, I don’t mean that I will definitely have an impact. I’ve never hoped to have an impact even when I’m on stage singing. Instead of working hard in order to shine, I find that working hard in the work you are given and the job you have is more important.”

Choi Siwon’s role in ‘Athena’ is as a new agent that just got employed by the investigation agency NTS, and his character is named Kim Joon Ho.

The drama is scheduled to broadcast its pilot episode this coming December 13th, following the finale of drama, ‘Giant‘.

Rihanna GQ Magazine UK Jan. 2011 Pics

Rihanna gets red-hot on the Jan. 2011 cover of British GQ — but it’s the remarks the “Loud” star makes inside the saucy issue that is attracting all of the attention.

As luck would have it, celeb gawkers are at their wits end with hearing about the night Chris Brown went upside RiRi’s head in his rented Lambo.

'Breaking Dawn' photo: And with this, Bill Condon proves he's our people

In case you missed Bill Condon’s Thanksgiving present to Twilight fans on Twitter, behold the first non-paparazzi photo from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1. Condon posted it on the film’s official Twitter page Nov. 25. He’s a classy Oscar winner, so he didn’t go with the accompanying text I would have: SEX! SEX! SEX! But still, more than 64,000 people have viewed the honeymoon shot. (In the book, Edward bites a pillow, or two, instead of Bella’s neck during their first night together, hence the feathers.) I love that this is the first photo he chose to reveal. He’s letting us know we’ll get our romance, and even if we won’t be seeing things that would garner the film an R rating, it’ll still get us excited.

Microsoft announces 2.5 million Kinects sold in first 25 days

Points for style, Microsoft, crossing the 2.5 million Kinect sensors sold mark a convenient 25 days into your global sales of that ever-so-hackable / sometimes-cool-for-gaming item. This number factors in Black Friday sales from this past weekend, and has us really curious as to how well Sony has been doing of late -- Sony's been mum on Move numbers since it announced 1 million units shipped about a month ago. Microsoft says it's on pace to sell 5 million Kinect units through this holiday, which leads us to wonder: what sort of 3D video extravaganza could we pull off with 5 million Kinects in tandem?

‘Massive’ Windows Phone 7 update coming in January

Microsoft has been talking about Windows Phone 7 updates since long before Windows Phone 7 was even released. While the OS’ launch was a bit rushed, we have to commend Microsoft for taking a pretty open stance and choosing to talk about upcoming functionality instead of shrugging off inquiries as most companies do. WP7 users should be happy to learn that many of the upcoming features Microsoft has been discussing could be coming as soon as January in a major update. According to Windows Phone 7 developer Chris Walsh, who claims to have inside knowledge of the update, Microsoft’s upcoming software bump will be “massive.” Expected features include copy/paste, free voice-guided Bing navigation, custom ringtone support, a third-party multitasking solution and more. Needless to say, all of this functionality is sorely missed in Windows Phone 7 as it stands today.

JYJ’s first concert starts off on a chilly note

More than 30,000 fans packed Seoul’s Olympic Main Stadium on November 27th, enduring the cold weather for JYJ’s first concert from their JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul. Early reports stated the concert was successful, but more detailed reviews of the concert now are stating otherwise.

After all of the issues JYJ faced throughout their US tour, due to the many mishaps from their pr and events management team, we were hoping they would have better luck back home. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case according to this report by the Korea Times:

KARA’s new album “Girl’s Talk” breaks 6 year old record in Japan, sells over 100,000 copies

Korean five member girl group, KARA released their first Japanese original album “Girl’s Talk” on November 24th. It’s been reported that this album has sold 107,000 copies in the first week, which was good enough to place them second on the Oricon weekly chart for December 6th.

This is the first time in 6 years and 9 months for an Asian girl group (excluding Japanese ones) to sell 100,000 copies in their first week since Twelve Girls Band (Chinese instrumental band) did it back in March 2004 with the release of their album “Kikou ~Shining Energy~.”

The sales of “Girl’s Talk” is almost double that of “KARA BEST 2007-2010” first week sales (51,000 copies) which was released back in September.

Wake up and smell the money! Julia Roberts paid £1m for coffee ad... and she doesn't even have to say anything

She held the crown of Hollywood's highest paid actress for most of the last decade, only recently being toppled by the likes of Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz.

But perhaps America's Sweetheart Julia Roberts is attempting to claw back to the top spot, after agreeing to appear in a 45-second advertisement for Italian coffee house Lavazza - for the hefty fee of 1.2 million euros (£1.14 million).

Lavazza bosses are seemingly so confident in Julia's talent that she is not even required to speak for her role in the 45-second ad.

The actress appears in the heavenly advertisement, to be screened over the Christmas period in Italy, as Botticelli's Venus in a setting in the clouds.

The scene opens with the painter at his wits end as his difficult muse refuses to smile for him as he attempts to create his masterpiece, Spring Allegory.

No Windows Phone 7 App Hub royalties until Feb 2011 latest in developer woes

Microsoft has supposedly told Windows Phone 7 developers that they won’t see any App Hub payments for paid-app sales until February 2011, according to coder Justin James, while the absence of any download feedback or analytics is leaving developers uncertain whether to continue investing in their software. Nicholas Yu, who created a Google Voice app for WP7 called GoVoice, has complained that responding to the number one feature request from users – push notifications – would require server investment that, with the limited tools Microsoft makes available, he cannot currently judge worthwhile.

“Currently I have no idea how many copies of GoVoice are sold nor did I receive a single paycheck. Implementing Push is a very risky thing for me because I need to justify that the expenses will cover the maintenance cost of a Push server” Nicholas Yu, developer, GoVoice

GoVoice will get limited push notification support, but initially only as part of a gradual roll-out. Similarly, it seems James will continue development, but he warns fellow coders should “think of Windows Phone 7 development as a hobby or a learning experience rather than a source of revenue.” He also saves some scathing words for Microsoft’s poor customer service, including rejection feedback and general support.

Microsoft announced recently that it had 15,000 developers using the Windows Phone 7 SDK, and 3,000 applications in the WP7 Marketplace. The company had previously confirmed that it used “revenue guarantees” and the promise of engineer cooperation to get significant coding houses on board for the smartphone platform’s launch; now it needs to show it can maintain its developer relations.

Kendra Wilkinson slips back into her tiny bikini after declaring: 'My body is back and I want to show it off'

She’s made no secret of her struggle to lose her baby weight, but after 11 months of gruelling exercise, Kendra Wilkinson is finally satisfied with her bikini body again.

The former Playboy pin-up showed off her lithe frame after losing over three-and-a-half stone (50 lbs) since giving birth in December 2009.

‘My body is back, and I want to show it off’, the 25-year-old declared during her latest photo shoot.

So she took the opportunity to slip back into a skimpy pink string bikini and peep toe heels as she carried her 11-month-old son Hank Jnr.

In another shot, the reality TV star posed in a red two piece with black heels outside her family mansion.

And she told US Magazine during the shoot that she and her American Football star husband Hank Baskett are already talking about having another baby.

Despite admitting that ‘pregnancy is not for me’, Kendra says she loves being a mum and ‘would go through it all again.’

James Franco & Anne Hathaway Hosting the Oscars

Hollywood's biggest night is getting a double-dose of talent.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway will serve as co-hosts for the 83rd annual Academy Awards, producers confirmed Monday.

Franco has earned critical raves for his latest film, 127 Hours, the real-life story of outdoorsman Aron Ralston who cut off part of his arm after getting it stuck under a boulder. The actor's resume includes diverse roles in Eat, Pray, Love, General Hospital, Milk and Pineapple Express.

Hathaway's newest project is the much-hyped Love and Other Drugs in which she costars with Jake Gyllenhaal. She also showed off her singing and dancing chops when she performed a musical number with Hugh Jackman when he hosted the Oscars two years ago.

"James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons – fresh, exciting and multi-talented," Oscar telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said Monday.

The Oscars air live on ABC from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on February 27.

Patent Wars Begin as Apple, Nokia Square Off

This week Apple and Nokia are facing each other in a legal conflict over smartphone patents before the International Trade Commission, the first of several disputes over intellectual property that could redefine the smartphone market.

The current conflict began in October 2009 when Nokia sued Apple, alleging that the Cupertino-based company had infringed on 10 of its patents with the iPhone. Apple countersued in December 2009, upping the ante by saying Nokia was in violation of 13 of its patents.

If Nokia wins, Apple could lose the right to sell the iPhone in the U.S. If Apple wins, Nokia's devices could be shut out of the U.S. market altogether. The losing company could end up going to the other for licensing rights to continue marketing its devices.

Whoever takes this round, the Apple-Nokia dispute is just the beginning of a series of legal conflicts for Apple. Up next are disputes with Motorola and HTC; The hearing in the HTC case is scheduled for May, according the the ITC Web site.

Bloomberg reports that Apple has turned to several top technology lawyers to beef up its legal team in advance of the case. Bruce Sewell, Apple's general counsel, came aboard last year after 15 years at Intel. Another recruit is Noreen Krall, formerly of Sun Microsystems. For outside counsel, Apple will get advice from William Lee, who successfully represented Broadcom against Qualcomm, and Robert Krupka, who negotiated Apple's $100 million settlement with Creative Labs in 2005.

Microsoft in talks to start new TV service using the 360?

Microsoft's been strangely quiet during the recent smart TV explosion even though it has arguably the most mature set of products in Windows Media Center and Mediaroom, and now we know why: Reuters says MS has been meeting with media companies in an effort to create an entirely new TV service possibly delivered through the Xbox 360. Apparently there are multiple options on the table, ranging from a full-on "virtual cable operator" with monthly fees to using the 360 as an extension of existing cableco online TV initiatives to simply delivering certain channels like ESPN and HBO a la carte, and Reuters' sources say the plan might take another 12 months to develop. That sounds like a bit too long, if you ask us: Apple and Google are waging a major living room assault, and we can't imagine Microsoft is willing to miss another technology cycle -- especially not one where it holds the significant advantage of the 360's installed base and proven history as an IPTV device on multiple operators worldwide, including Uverse. We'll see what happens -- it sounds like the battle might finally be joined.

The Wonder Girls meet Jay Chou

A picture of the Wonder Girls with popular Taiwanese singer Jay Chou was recently revealed.

On November 29th, maknae Hye Lim uploaded the photo, where the five girls were smiling shyly, with Jay Chou standing next to members Ye Eun and Hye Lim.

Hye Lim wrote on her Twitter, “I met Jay Chou, one of my most favorite artists.”

No silver lining in Chrome OS delays

Google executives like to say they celebrate their failures, reasoning that when something fails, at least they've learned something. Perhaps with Chrome OS, they're learning how to set expectations.

It's looking pretty clear that Google is going to miss its fourth-quarter target for the launch of Chrome OS, a lightweight Web-based operating system that is designed for Netbooks. The company hasn't said as much, but Google CEO Eric Schmidt referred to the Chrome OS launch as "a few months" away in mid-November, and Jim Wong, senior vice president for Acer, told reporters last week that Google is planning a consumer launch in 2011.

Ocosmos OSC1 Oak Trail tablet detailed: due Q1 2011

Details on the Ocosmos OSC1 UMPC which Intel briefly flashed at IDF 2010 earlier this year have emerged, set to be one of the first Oak Trail devices assuming the company can find carriers willing to take it on. According to the spec sheet, the OSC1 will have either a 1.5GHz or 1.9GHz Oak Trail CPU running Windows 7, 400MHz GPU with HD decoding, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen running at 1024 x 768.

There are also dual cameras – 5-megapixels on the back, 1.3-megapixels on the front – and a QWERTY keyboard revealed when you slide the display up. Connectivity includes HDMI, USB 2.0 (with host support), a 3.5mm headphone socket and a microSD card slot to augment the 32GB internal SSD. The whole thing measures in at 174 x 83.4 x 15.9 mm.

Ocosmos apparently reckons the OSC1 will manage 10hrs of runtime from a full charge, though UMPC Portal expects that to be more like 3hrs with a regular battery or 5-7hrs if they fit a significantly larger power pack. The company is targeting a Q1 2011 launch and thinks AT&T or Korea Telecoms would be ideal carrier partners, but aren’t saying anything on pricing.

Nintendo Sells 1.5 Million Consoles Over Black Friday Week

While Black Friday is over and done with, and we’re knee-deep in the savings that come with Cyber Monday, it looks like Nintendo made a killing off the Black Friday week. They sold plenty of consoles, which include members of the DS family, as well as the Wii home console. They sold enough, in fact, that the company feels like a formal press release is the right thing to do. Some may call this bragging, but then again, when you’ve sold as many consoles as Nintendo did, there might be a little room to do that.

The company sold 1.5 million consoles over the week, and thankfully Nintendo was nice enough to break it down for us, in their press release. When it came to the Wii home video game console, consumers managed to pick up 600,000 of them. As for the DS line-up of portable gaming consoles, consumers managed to purchase 900,000 of those over the week. If you’re curious, that means that people were buying 9,000 Nintendo-branded video game consoles every hour, of every day, throughout the Black Friday week.
