DiCaprio Source Says "Doubtful" Leo Will Work With Mel Gibson

Before we get to Leonardo DiCaprio and that racist, misogynistic, anti-gay, anti-Semitic skeeze-basket Mel Gibson, gotta say, Inception is amazing with a capital A (which also happens to be the grade that E! gave the fab flick). If you haven't had time to catch the mind-blowing megamovie, then cancel your Friday night plans because it's a must-see—if not for the truly original storytelling (how often do you find that these days?), then to drool over the way gorge supporting cast (Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page, anyone?).

Plus, Leo can do no wrong. Or can he?

While we all anxiously await the announcement of Inception 2, Leo lovers have been dying to know what the A-list actor is up to next—and the buzz is bewildering, to say the least. The L.A. Times is reporting that Leo is next set to star in a Mel Gibson-directed film about Vikings. True?

Angelina Jolie Admits She Isn't Completely "Sane"

These days, Angelina Jolie may not be wearing blood vials or locking lips with her brother, but the 35-year-old mother-of-six insists she still has a wild side.

In a new USA Today interview, she says: "There's certainly a side of me that isn't completely ..." Pausing to search for the right word, she then adds, "Sane. Or completely 'even' all the time. We all have our dark sides."'

In her case, Jolie says her dark side was exposed in the public eye.

"I grew up in front of everybody, really," she says. "The big years of exploration."

Jolie famously dived into a pool in her Golden Globes dress after winning for her role as a drug addicted model in 1998's Gia. And then there was all that bizarre Billy Bob stuff.

"There was a certain madness I was going through," says the actress. "I learned a lot about myself." But she isn't embarrassed. "People tend to sum up times in your life and simplify," she says. "I would say there's a way of being bold when you're young that seems very brave. ... What's perceived as tough is a very funny thing. I think to be a parent is one of the scariest, boldest things to do, as opposed to, um, getting a tattoo. ... Much more than jumping into a pool when you're 20."

Apple begins iPhone 4 Case Program: apply for your free case or Bumper now

Well, there's nothing like masking bad news with good news, right Apple? Just moments after quietly announcing that the white iPhone 4 is now scheduled to ship sometime between tomorrow and your New Year's Eve party, the company has also fired up its iPhone 4 Case Program. Just as Jobs promised last week at an emergency press event, this program will ensure that anyone who purchases an iPhone 4 prior to September 30th will be able to receive an iPhone 4 Bumper or select third-party case from the company at no charge. 'Course, you need to be located in a country or territory that Apple actually ships to, but if that's all squared away, feel free to hit up the App Store to download the iPhone 4 Case Program app. Once there, you'll need to sign into your iTunes Store account, select your Bumper or case and wait oh-so-patiently (read: "3 to 5 weeks"). Better hurry -- wouldn't want the servers to get overloaded, now would we?

Oh, and if you happened to have already purchased a Bumper, the company should be hitting your credit card with a full refund (including any applicable taxes and shipping) momentarily. As for the case / Bumper choices? Every single option is available in any color you like... so long as it's black, of course. There's a black Apple Bumper option, an Incase Snap Case, Belkin Shield Micra, Griffin Motif, Griffin Reveal, Speck Fitted and Speck PixelSkin HD, but again, don't go in hoping to select your favorite hue. Yeah, you're free to bicker about free things -- we won't judge.

White iPhone 4 not available until later this year

Folks hoping to snag a white iPhone anytime soon will be disappointed by Apple’s latest press release. The Cupertino company confirmed yet again that the white iPhone 4 has been “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.” Here is the full statement:

White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

BoA’s 6th album will drop on August 2nd

BoA’s official Korean website (boa.smtown.com) recently updated itself to let her fans know that she will drop her sixth album on August 2nd instead of the 5th.

The album carries the title Hurricane Venus and I’m sure the album will work like a hurricane; come fast and leave a devastating impact on the competition. The name Venus was most likely named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

August 25th will mark the 10th year anniversary since her debut, so the album will be dropping right around then to celebrate her 10-year anniversary.

Can’t wait to see what she has in store for us, thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Can 'Salt' overthrow 'Inception'?

How refreshing! Inception, a challenging, beautifully directed, impeccably acted drama has broken through the clutter of summer and is on the verge of collecting $100 million in only nine days of release. Its second weekend in theaters is sure to be strong, but will it hold high enough to keep Angelina Jolie’s spy caper Salt out of first place? It’s going to be a battle, but with both films likely to gross in the $35-$40 million range, it only portends good things for the movie business. Unfortunately, the other new release of the weekend, Ramona and Beezus, is unlikely to do much business. The G-rated family comedy, which based on the terrifically popular books by Beverly Cleary, has a built-in audience of young girls and their mothers who grew up on the once-timely stories, but it doesn’t look like there’s been much of a demand created in the marketplace for this movie.

“Saw” Guinness World Record: “Most Successful Horror Series In History”

The Saw film franchise has earned an unlikely honor: a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. Saw has been dubbed the “Most Successful Horror Movie Series.”

“I’m still in shock. The fact that we beat out (such horror franchises as) ‘Friday the 13th,’ ‘Nightmare on Elm Street,’ ‘Halloween’ and ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ is a testament to our cast, crew and our partners at Lionsgate,” Saw producer Mark Burg said Thursday.

The Saw films center around homicidal maniac Jigsaw, a serial killer who puts his victims through psychological torture before killing them. The franchise consists of six movies, each one having come out consecutively every Halloween since 2004. The horror features have grossed more than $73O million at the worldwide box-office and sold more than thirty million DVDs.

Flexible Shakira's hips don't lie and neither do her agile limbs in sultry Ibiza photo shoot

We already knew that Shakira’s hips don’t lie, but the sultry singer revealed that her flexible legs don’t either, as demonstrated during an incredibly agile photo shoot.

The Colombian singer showed off her physical prowess as she flung her limbs around the Ibizan countryside for her latest shoot.

And it wasn’t hard to spot the 33-year-old Whenever, Wherever singer, as she pranced around in a hot pink bikini and flamboyant tutu skirt.

The tanned, pint-sized star was in a playful mood as she posed for the photographer in the idyllic location on Ibiza.

HP Wants To Become Apple. WebOS Is The Key

In season 1 of AMC’s hit show Mad Men, Rachel Menken comes to the advertising firm Sterling Cooper because she wants to give her department store, Menken’s, a makeover, so to speak. She wants to transform it from a successful department store into an elite one. “What kind of people do you want [coming into your store]?,” Creative Director Don Draper asks Menken. “I want your kind of people Mr. Draper. People who don’t care about coupons — whether or not they can afford it. People who come into the store because it is expensive,” Menken replies.

Based on what we’re hearing, HP has been having similarly themed meetings in recent months. They want to transform themselves — from HP, the successful tech juggernaut, into Apple, the sexy one.

When you think of HP, what do you think of? For most consumers it’s either printers and sort of crappy, cheap computers that you get at Best Buy. But that’s not what HP aspires to be anymore, sources familiar with HP’s thinking are telling us. They want to be Apple. They want be the makers of high-quality consumer gadgets all connected by way of a digital ecosystem. An ecosystem they own and operate. One tied together by webOS.

While it should hardly be surprising to hear that any company wants to be Apple given that company’s recent success, HP is one of a very few — and actually maybe the only company with the required assets to potentially pull off such a makeover. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to — but it’s possible. And they know that, and that’s exactly what their strategy is going forward, apparently.

LG can’t keep up with Apple’s screen demand

Apple is selling iPads and iPhones in huge numbers but shortages have plagued the device. If Apple were able to offer enough devices to meet the demand of consumers, its sales would be considerably higher. One of the major screen suppliers for Apple has stated that it simply can’t meet the demand.

LG has stated that at this time it is unable to meet the increasing demand for mobile device screens that Apple is placing on it. However, LG does state that it will be able to meet the demand for mobile device screens from Apple and other firms by Q2 of 2011.

LG is making a new investment in an additional production line that will total $512 million. The new production line will be able to make 20,000 glass sheets per month for screens in the portable size range of the iPad and iPhone.

New Xbox 360 250GB Limited Edition Halo: Reach bundle revealed

The Halo series is no stranger to special edition Xbox 360 hardware, so it should come as no surprise that the latest entry, Halo: Reach, is also privy to such treatment. What makes it special, however, is that it's the first special edition based on the new model -- 250GB HDD, built-in 802.11n WiFi, a silver (presumably matte, based on the picture) finish, and custom, Halo-inspired sounds. The $399 price tag also nets you two special edition wireless controllers and, naturally, a copy of the game itself. Look for this September 14th, and really, if you're not into glossy black (and we feel ya, brother), this might be in your best interest to pick up.

Kevin Cheng not allowed to attend Dai Si Chung's funeral

The day before, Dai Si Chung passed away from a heart attack. When he was alive, he had contract disputes with his apprentice Kevin Cheng. Earlier Kevin expressed that he is planning to attend Dai's funeral as a final tribute to him. To our surprise, yesterday "Teacher Dai Si Chung's Funeral Committee" issued a document stating that Kevin and Teacher Dai had too much gossips, his family expressed: "hope Kevin Cheng respects our decision, he is not suitable to attend the funeral. This is in attempt to avoid an awkward situation, the media causing a commotion and cause an emotional impact to the Dai family." The statement was also issued on Dai Si Chung's will.

Currently in Singapore, Kevin expressed that he will respect the decision: "I respect this decision. I absolutely do not want to cause unnecessary troubles for Teacher Dai's family, nor do I want to stir up made up news by the media. I will go pay my respects to him when the right time comes." Kevin also sends his blessings: "Hope Teacher has a good journey."

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr Secretly Marry!

That was fast. Just a month after their engagement was confirmed, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have gotten married.

The model, 27, and the British actor, 33, are now on their honeymoon, Kerr reveals in a statement explaining why she's canceling an appearance at the Australian department store David Jones.

"David Jones very graciously released me during this period so we could celebrate an intimate ceremony and honeymoon together," Kerr says in the statement. "I’m very much a part of the David Jones Family and I am very committed to my role. I am enormously grateful to David Jones to have been given this time to enjoy such a special moment in my life."

The couple reportedly began dating in late 2007. "We were friends for a while and then it just developed into a little more," she told Hello! magazine in September 2008, adding that Bloom asked her agent for her number – because she wouldn't give it to him.

"At the time I was seeing someone else," she explained.

Bloom and Kerr made their first public appearance in April 2008 at Sydney's Doncaster Day at the Randwick Racecourse. That same weekend, the actor also met her parents.

Last year, when the two spent Thanksgiving together in Morocco, Bloom told reporters he and Kerr were "just enjoying our time together now" when asked if they were getting married anytime soon.

Megan Fox Slams “Victoria’s Secret Slut” Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Oh say it ain’t so, Foxy!

We hear Megan Fox is steaming mad that English lingerie model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley — who will replace her as Shia LaBeouf’s love interest in next summer’s Transformers 3 –is being toted as Hollywood’s new “It” girl.

Huntington-Whiteley was tapped to take Megan’s place in the franchise after the Jolie doppleganger got fired for being a bit of a bitch and calling director Michael Bay “Hitler” (Depending on who’s telling the story.) She should be basking in the bliss of recently tying the knot with hubby Brian Austin Green, instead Chicago Sun-Times snoops claim the foxy bombshell spends her days looking a little green.

And it isn’t the cheap jewelry!

”Megan talks about Rosie all the time — bitching about how ‘that Victoria’s Secret slut’ is getting so much attention,” whispers a rogue snitch in the actress’ camp.

Megan’s also riled-up over Rosie’s glowing repoire with the Transformers crew. The same technicans and makeup artists who blasted the Jonah Hex actress as a petulant diva in an open letter posted to Bay’s website last winter can’t speak highly enough of the newest addition to the cast. In fact, Rosie’s hailed on set as ”a real doll,” ”a sweetie” and ”a joy to work with.”

Samsung Galaxy S review shootout: Captivate for AT&T and Vibrant for T-Mobile

We've got to hand it to Samsung with its Galaxy S line. Coordinating the launch of a single family of devices across all four national US carriers (plus a regional or two) is a feat very rarely accomplished, and usually reserved for really unique handsets that those carriers wouldn't be able to effectively source from anyone else; HTC's Touch Pro2 is a prime example of that. Add to that the murky issue of exclusivity periods... and, well, yeah, Samsung definitely has reason to be proud here -- on the business end of things, anyway. Never mind the awesome contractual maneuvering that undoubtedly took place to make this all happen, though -- we all know that it's the hardware (and software) that really counts. Today we're looking at the first two models of the American run, the Captivate for AT&T and the Vibrant for T-Mobile; Verizon's Fascinate and Sprint's QWERTY- and WiMAX-equipped Epic 4G are still forthcoming, though we expect the Fascinate to be largely similar to these first two.

Beyond their simple appeal as sexy, high-end Android phones, what makes the Captivate and Vibrant especially interesting is that they are actually their respective carriers' only high-end Android phones at the moment. In other words: if 1GHz processors and high-res AMOLED displays are how you roll, these are basically the only game in town if you're on AT&T or T-Mobile -- particularly now that Nexus One sales are winding down. Do they rise to the challenge? Let's have a look.

Angelina Jolie Rocks Skintight Biker Jacket at Comic-Con

Sans beau Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie wowed the crowd Thursday at the annual fan convention Comic-Con in San Diego, Calif.

Clad in a fitted biker jacket over a black pencil skirt, the actress, 35, sat on a panel to discuss her new action-thriller Salt (out Friday).

She recalled how she took a bad spill performing one stunt -- and got freaked out afterwards when she couldn't hear anything.

"I thought I'd had a concussion, but I had forgotten that I had my earplugs in from [shooting] the gun!" she said.

The Oscar-winning actress famously replaced Tom Cruise in the movie about a CIA officer falsely accused of being a Russian agent.

Compared to her past thrillers like Wanted and Tomb Raider, Jolie said Salt is "a better action movie." She said her "style got meaner and harder and darker ... it wasn't as pretty."

Secunia ranks Apple first in software insecurity, Safari said to have AutoFill vulnerability

Bad news, Oracle. You've slipped to second place for the first time in years. The good news is that it's in Secunia's ranking of the top ten companies with the most software vulnerabilities, which is now topped by Apple -- Microsoft remains in third place, followed by HP and Adobe. According to Secunia, Apple's vulnerabilities are mostly not in OS X, but in Safari, iTunes and other applications. What's important to note, however, is that Secunia's definition of "vulnerability" doesn't simply include dangerous, exploitable vulnerabilities, so the rankings don't necessarily indicate which software is the most insecure from a user's point of view.

One vulnerability that is potentially serious, however, is an issue with Safari's AutoFill feature recently discovered by Jeremiah Grossman of WhiteHat Security. According to Grossman, a malicious website can exploit the feature to pull data from a user's address book without their knowledge, which has been demonstrated to take "mere seconds" by a bit of proof of concept code (you can try out yourself if you're feeling trusting). Grossman also says he's informed Apple of the vulnerability but hasn't received a response, and suggests that the only "fix" in the meantime is to turn off the AutoFill feature completely.

Three bites of the cherry

Jay Chou wants to be a vampire. True story.

When asked what he hoped to achieve over the next decade of his career, the Taiwanese superstar, who was at a press conference on Wednesday at Swissotel The Stamford, pointed to a huge publicity poster of him dressed as a vampire prince - complete with white contact lenses and Edwardian-style duds.

"I hope I can be like a vampire, and not age forever," said the 31-year-old entertainer, smiling. "I hope my music won't die, and that it'll continue to be played."

As things stand right now, Chou's decade-long dominance of the Chinese music scene certainly shows no sign of diminishing anytime soon.

He marked his 10th year in the business in May, with the launch of his 10th album, "The Era", which has sold an impressive 30,000 copies here and spawned three No 1 singles. Worldwide, his albums have gone 27 times platinum (that's showbiz talk for 27 million copies sold).

In April, tickets for his three Singapore shows this weekend sold out in a matter of hours. As was widely reported, two out of the three shows were added when irate fans were unable to secure tickets quickly enough.

First Look: Natalie Portman In “Black Swan”

Here’s a bit of a treat for our Crunch-Lovin’ Movie Buffs: The first promotional still from the upcoming psychological thriller, Black Swan.

The film — which features actress Natalie Portman as a ballerina — will open the Venice Film Festival Sept.1. Swan — directed by lensman Darren Aronofsky and featuring Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder — centers on the rivalry between two dancers at a ballet company in New York.

Kin listed as at least $240 million writeoff in Microsoft earnings report

Here's a tidbit in today's Microsoft quarterly earnings that we previously overlooked: a $240 million cost of revenue "primarily... resulting from the discontinuation of the Kin phone, offset in part by decreased Xbox 360 console costs." In other words, the company took at least a quarter billion hit due to manufacturing, distribution, and support costs of the Kin (according to Microsoft's definition of "cost of revenue"). We don't know how much Xbox 360 offset, unfortunately, but we can add this figure to the $500 million Danger acquisition and the full marketing cost for the product (which we also don't know, but anecdotally, it was on par with other major campaigns) to reach... well, at least $800 million in regret for the folks in Redmond.

Microsoft beats Street with $16 billion in revenue

Microsoft ended the fiscal year on a strong note, reporting fourth-quarter profits of $4.52 billion, or 51 cents per share on Thursday.

The software maker beat Wall Street estimates, and also announced its best-ever quarterly revenue of $16.04 billion, an increase of 22 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

Wall Street analysts had been expecting Microsoft's revenue to fall somewhere between $14.85 billion and $15.74 billion.

"We saw strong sales execution across all of our businesses, particularly in the enterprise with Windows 7 and Office 2010," Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner said in a statement. "Our transition to cloud services is well under way with offerings like Windows Azure and our Business Productivity Online Services, and we look forward to continuing our product momentum this fall with the upcoming launches of Windows Phone 7 and Xbox Kinect."

Microsoft's bump in revenue was due to Windows 7 and Office 2010 selling well, the company said. It's been a good quarter overall for the tech industry, with Intel reporting its most profitable quarter in its history, and IDC data showing PC shipments up 22 percent.

Microsoft's own data shows the PC market up between 22 percent and 24 percent, and the company says emerging markets are "a significant driver of the PC market," increasing their growth by almost twice that of mature markets, Bill Koefoed, general manager of investor relations, said on the earnings call Thursday afternoon.

Justin Bieber to guest star on 'CSI'

Following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber will make his acting debut in the season premiere of CSI on Sept. 23, CBS announced today. The multi-platinum singer will play Jason McCann, a troubled teen who is faced with a tough decision involving his only brother.

It kicks off a story arc that will conclude later in the season. Yep, Bieber will be back for more! The CSI producers released this statement today: ”Every 20 years, a phenomenon like Justin Bieber graces our world. We’d like to believe that the phenomenon of CSI has had the same impact on popular culture. The opportunity to bring them together in the premiere is a great treat for our audience and all of its new viewers. This will be true event television. We’re looking forward to Justin’s dramatic star turn, not only in the premiere, but in a continuing seasonal arc.”

Before Bieber, Swift made an appearance on the long-running procedural in March 2009. She played a country singer named Haley Jones whose family owned a seedy Las Vegas motel. It was her first primetime acting gig.

Steve Ballmer feeling pressure at Microsoft for stagnating share price?

It's hard to say that a CEO whose company has grown from $23 billion in revenue to $54 billion during his 10 year tenure isn't doing his job, but The Daily Beast is reporting on a small, vocal (and of course, anonymous) minority within Microsoft that wants Steve Ballmer out on the curb. The main criticism seems to be the share price, which has oddly tracked in inverse with Microsoft's revenue: it's about half of its $48.93 value back in January 2000 when Ballmer took over. With the strong support of his board and an another supposedly positive earnings call coming later today, it's hard to call Steve's position as "shaky" at the company, but with whispers of infighting, a symbolic battle with Apple over market capitalization, and a do-or-die mobile launch coming up, it's clear that he's under a lot of pressure to deliver. Right now any talks of replacement are hearsay and analyst fodder at best, but we'll be watching to see how this rumor develops during this 30th year of Ballmer's career at the company.

HP Slate no longer a consumer product, will arrive for enterprise this fall

We've sensed that something's been up with the HP Slate for a while now, and it looks like we've finally gotten the first solid confirmation that the Windows 7 tablet as unveiled by Steve Ballmer at CES in January won't hit the consumer market as planned -- speaking at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference, HP Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley just said that the Slate will be "more customer-specific than broadly deployed," and that it would launch the Microsoft-based tablet "for the enterprise" in the fall. That fits right in with HP telling us the other day that it was in "customer evaluations" as it prepared for the "next steps," and based on followup comments from Bradley and Palm head Jon Rubinstein, it certainly sounded like the company will focus Windows tablets at the enterprise and develop a variety of webOS devices for the consumer market. Of course, there's no official announcement yet, so we'll see what happens -- the only thing that we can confidently say is that the HP Slate has definitely succeeded the iPad as the tech industry's favorite vaporware tablet.

Ad for Jen Aniston's New Movie Shows a Cup Full of...What?!

Get a load of this.

We're not prudes around here, but even we were a bit surprised to see a new ad for Jennifer Aniston's upcoming flick, The Switch.

First, let's explain the premise of the movie. Ms. Aniston plays an unmarried 40-year-old who gets pregnant with the help of a turkey baster. What she doesn't find out until years later is that a drunken mishap forced a friend (Jason Bateman) to replace the sperm she was planning to use with his own.

Now about the ad…

On top, there's a pic of Aniston with a look of surprise on her face. No biggie.

But then there's Bateman. He's on the bottom looking closely into a specimen cup filled with what looks like a healthy dose of, well, you-know-what.

We'll assume that the you-know-what is fake—unless co-directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck insisted on some method acting.

Now we want to hear from you. Pumped up for the movie or not in the mood? Leave your comments below.

Samantha Ronson Visits Lindsay Lohan in Jail

Someone's going to have to install a revolving door to accommodate all of Lindsay Lohan's visitors.

Despite rules stating that only professional visits are allowed Monday through Friday, Samantha Ronson was the latest nonprofessional to be seen at the Lynwood, Calif., lockup where her pal will be spending the next 10 days or so.

And we doubt she was there to spin records.

Ronson went into the facility at 1:40 p.m. today and stayed for about an hour. Upon leaving, when asked how Lohan was doing, she snarked back, "How do you think she's doing?"

Well, Lohan's probably doing better than some, considering she's apparently allowed visits from friends and family, including mom Dina and sister Ali yesterday, when most of her fellow inmates have to wait until the weekend to see anyone other than their lawyers.

Spice Girls set to reunite for movie sequel called Viva Forever

The Spice Girls are reuniting for a new movie musical based on their hits.

The former girl band, comprising of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, announced earlier this year they are developing a West End stage musical based on their hit songs with Mamma Mia! film producer Judy Craymer.

And now former Baby Spice Bunton has announced the girls hope to turn the stage musical, Viva Forever, into a major movie to rival Mamma Mia!'s success.

It will serve as the sequel to the group's 1997 film Spice World.

A New Version Of Google Chrome Now Due Every Six Weeks

With their Chrome web browser, Google has always been obsessed with speed. And now they’re speeding up another aspect of it: how often stable builds are released. The goal now is to release a new stable version of the browser every six weeks — about twice as fast as they currently do, Google says. In other words, get ready for Chrome 6, 7, 8, and 9 coming soon.

So why is Google doing this? Because they’re creating new features so quickly and they want to make sure all users get them as fast as possible. These quick iterations also will allow Google to have more firmly set schedules for Chrome. And as a result, project managers will be able to set realistic goals for amount of work that can be done by a certain time.

But the most important thing that Google highlights may be the easing of pressure off of their engineering team. Under the old, longer release model, engineers would be pressured into trying to finish new features before a deadline or risk having them cut and not showing up for months. With the new release schedule, even if something isn’t ready to go in one release, it will only be six weeks until it makes the next one.

Making Calls On Google Voice Just Got Snappier

Google Voice is great, especially if you’re on a mobile platform that offers a native Voice application (namely Android or BlackBerry). But if you’ve been using the service on a regular basis, you may have run into an odd issue: sometimes when you go to actually call someone there’s a lag, as if the phone isn’t altogether sure what it’s supposed to do when you tap on the ‘Call’ button next to a contact’s name. Today, Google is getting rid of that lag in its native applications.

As Google details in its blog post, that pause was due to Google Voice making a small data request to Google’s servers whenever you initiated a call, which would return the number the application was supposed to dial. That works well enough when you have a decent 3G or EDGE connection, but it can also lead to annoying timeouts and pauses when you don’t. The new version of the Voice applications fixes this by assigning a unique phone number to your contacts, bypassing the need to initiate a data connection. In other words, your outbound calls should be faster now.

WebOS 2.0 will come this year

HP's Jon Rubinstein -- formerly of Palm CEO fame, of course -- just mentioned in an interview with Fortune that webOS 2.0 is on track for "later this year." Considering that 2010 is more than half over, that doesn't leave a whole heck of a lot of time -- but with a mix of presumed kick-ass HP hardware in the pipeline running webOS, we imagine this should all dovetail nicely. On a related note, Rubinstein again drove home the point that they're developing new hardware "aggressively," so let's hope we finally see a Pre 2, a Palmpad, or heck, a frickin' LifeDrive 2 in the next few months.

Is that really Huang Xiao Ming?

If you’re like me then you probably could’t recognize this exceptionally good-looking actor from yesterday’s Appledaily, or at least not without reading the title (carefully for the 2nd time). Huang Xiao Ming and his rumored-girlfriend Angelababy are no strangers to accusations of going under the knife. Regardless of whether their faces are man-made, old pictures of celebrities always brighten up any dull article into an interesting one.
