'Titans' rules weekend box office: $61.4M

On a box-office weekend of far-ranging missions (and ticket prices), the 3D Clash of the Titans scooped up the most money, an estimated $61.4 million, while Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married, Too? ruled as the top-grosser among 2D-only films, with a huge $30.2 million.

The Last Song, Miley Cyrus' first major venture without Hannah Montana, sounded about right: a fourth-place debut, a $16.2 million Friday-Sunday.

Clash of the Titans is the third straight 3D movie to top the weekend box office. In fact, in 14 weekends so far this year, a 3D movie has been on top 10 times. The trend is a matter of appeal?and math. 3D ticket prices are simply higher. As your wallet could have told you.

Titans actually played in slightly more 2D theaters than 3D ones, but it grossed slighlty more at 3D venues than 2D ones, box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.

Paul Wesley: Totally Da Man!

On The Vampire Diaries, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) gets most of the juicy lines and a lot of the attention.

But Stefan (Paul Wesley) gets something even more important: the girl.

At least for now, Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev) are a serious, sexy item. After viewing the photos of Wesley from this month's issue of Da Man magazine, though, we have a feeling Elena will have major competition for her boyfriend.

The App Store Now Has Over 3,000 iPad Apps, Only 20 Percent Are Free

With iPad app frenzy in full force, the App Store is growing by the minute as iPad apps are being approved. Early this morning, Mobile ad exchange Mobclix tallied the number of apps and the breakdown between paid and free apps in the store. According to Mobclix, there are a total of 3,122 iPad apps in the store (keep in mind, these numbers could have changed slightly in the past few hours). As of Thursday evening, there were 2300 iPad apps available for download.

Currently, 80 percent of iPad apps in the store are paid apps, coming in at 2523 apps total. Only 599 of the apps are free, representing 20 percent of all apps. In terms of overall app numbers, games still rule; 942 of the 3,000 plus apps are games, with 804 of these apps being paid apps and 138 being free. Unsurprisingly, most of the 154 book apps available for the iPad are paid apps. Mobclix says the average price of apps is $4.99; and it will run you $12,572.78 to buy all the apps in the store.

Apple iPad jailbreak already achieved [Video]

That was quick. Only hours on sale, and already Apple’s iPad has had its first Jailbreak. The handiwork of key members from the iPhone Dev Team, the hack paves the way for bringing Cydia onto the iPad, the unofficial app distribution system that allows for installing titles that Apple won’t approve for the App Store.

The hack builds on the so-called “Spirit” jailbreak by comex. Expectations for the first jailbreak of the iPad were high, given the fact that it’s based on the same underlying iPhone OS as Apple’s smartphone range; still, it’s impressive that the iPhone Dev Team have managed to so do so early in the tablet’s availability.

Cindy Yen opens concert, uncomfortable seeing Jay Chou

Jay Chou's company younger sister Cindy Yen had a music concert two nights ago, and her boss Yang Jun Rong took the time out to fly from Taiwan to Hong Kong to support her, loudly praising that she was the most talented artist after Jay Chou. He also said in English that as long as Cindy never gave up on herself, he would never give up on her, causing Cindy to be moved to tears.

Organizers also played a short supportive clip from Jay Chou, who said that Cindy was both innovative and capable of bursting forth, and it would be a pity if her talent wasn't nurtured. Cindy confessed that when she saw her boss, she was nervous and moved. "This the first music concert, I'm never going to forget it for sure. I hope it never ends, that I can continue singing forever! (Invite Jay to attend?) He's a hundred times busier than I am, if he came I would be more nervous. (Support you?) We run into each other at the company HQ sometimes, he's never worried about me!"
