'Avatar,' 'Hurt Locker' lead expanded Oscar parade

Academy Awards voters are expected to go very big or very small on their best-picture winner at Sunday's Oscars. The two favorites in the expanded field of 10 best-picture nominees are the as-big-as-it-gets blockbuster "Avatar" and the critical darling "The Hurt Locker," which drew a tiny fraction of the audience its mammoth competitor pulled in.

Either movie would represent a first at the Oscars. James Cameron's "Avatar" would be the only science-fiction film ever to take home the best-picture prize. While war films have done well at the Oscars, Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" would be the first winner centered on the war on terror, a subject that has stirred little interest among movie audiences shell-shocked by news coverage of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Robert Pattinson Didn’t Want to do Twilight

ROBERT Pattinson admits he DIDN’T want to star in the Twilight movies.

The British actor — who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the smash hit film franchise — says he was keen to perfect his craft before taking part in such a high-profile project.

“At first I didn’t want to do a movie like Twilight,” he said. “I specifically hadn’t done anything that anyone would see since Harry Potter, because I wanted to teach myself how to act. I didn’t want to be an idiot. I was going to wait for another year to do two or three more little things and then do something bigger.

“Twilight came kind of randomly. It was a chance and, as I didn’t have a reputation at all, there was nothing for me to lose.”

“The producers actually asked me to take my shirt off at the audition,” R-Patz recalled. “I thought, if that’s the criteria, then you’ve got the wrong guy. I knew about the audition five months beforehand, but I didn’t want to bother getting a six-pack or doing much else at all in preparation — but looking back, I might have combed my hair. I thought that I had to be this bland guy with his shirt off who people just project ideas onto. At first I thought to play Edward in an interesting way was totally impossible.

Is There Too Much Sarah Jessica Parker and the 'City'?

Sarah Jessica Parker doesn't know how to apply makeup in real life, she was shocked and overcome with grief at the death of Alexander McQueen, she still wishes she had become a prima ballerina, her family was involved in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 way back in the day and DC politicos love her in red.

Oomph. That's a lot of information all at once.

See, we know all this because SJP has been ubiquitous for the past couple of weeks. She's one of the celebrity subjects on NBC's post-late-night-wars filler 'Who Do You Think You Are?' She has a new perfume out, SJP NYC, a strong floral aroma packaged in crazy colors and patterns reminiscent of the one and only Carrie Bradshaw. She visited the White House for the National Arts and Humanities Medal Ceremony, attended Fashion Week and penned late designer McQueen's obituary for Time magazine.

This begs the question, since we are nearly three months out from the May release of the much-anticipated sequel to 'Sex and the City,' is Parker jumping the publicity gun, or can fans just not get enough SJP?

It seems to be the latter, since everywhere the lady behind Carrie Bradshaw goes she gets cooed over, adored and welcomed with open arms.

Microsoft May Include HTML5 Support in Internet Explorer 9?

Rumors are circulating that Microsoft could announce a beta of Internet Explorer 9 at the upcoming MIX 2010 conference. The new version is rumored to feature improved support for open Web standards. The MIX 2010 conference will include at least two presentations about new, open Web standards: One, on HTML5, is entitled "HTML5 Now: The Future of Web Markup Today." Another session looks at the SVG vector graphics standard.

A shift toward open Web standards for Internet Explorer would signal a major change for Microsoft; the company has been criticized in the past for not fully supporting modern, open Web standards. Microsoft's lack of Web standards support is a major factor in the rise of third-party browsers like Firefox, Chrome, and Opera, which feature a more compliant browsing experience, and better support for developers.

Apple's iPad: Will it sell?

The new device will fly off shelves, say some analysts; others think sales will build slowly

Apple's iPad will fly out of stores when it goes on sale in four weeks, and will build momentum through the back-to-school and into the holiday selling seasons, analysts said today.

"I expect a surge going out the door," said Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research. "There's a group of Apple advocates that will queue up no matter what. Apple has the most effective branding in the industry, and these people think of themselves as acolytes, they do think of themselves as the 'Mac' in Apple's 'I'm a Mac' ads."

On Friday, Apple announced that the iPad will go on sale April 3, and that it would begin taking pre-orders for the device, which is priced starting at $499, on March 12.

First Man wasn't Jay Chou ! Jolin says the question is really stupid

Jay is entangled in rumors non stop, and Jolin who had been rumored to have dated him also got asked whether her "first man" was him, Jolin unwaveringly says "No" , then after understanding the meaning behind this she added "this question is really stupid"

On the 5th, a reporter talked about "That artist who revealed that she gave her first night to Jay," Jolin didn't get it at first, asking "What ?!" Then he said more clearly that Wu Pei Shan revealed how she lost her virginity, then Jolin said "None of my business"

Did Wu give her first time to Jay ? Jolin looked grim and didn't answer, but the newspapers journalists asked her did Jolin herself gave her first time to Jay ? She very assuredly said "No", after they explained to her that they were talking about she said they were boring.

Jay once said that he was really tired, "Did you keep in touch ? Did you sometimes called to cheer each other up ? " reporters asked Jolin whether she was still in contact with Jay, Jolin said "We are still in contact, actually, I advised him to take a vacation now and then."
About whether she texted him to show her concern, Jolin froze for a moment and said "That is a... For now I still hadn't"

Jay Chou turns into spider man for MV

Jay Chou has been riddled with "matters from the past", for the time being he's put that aside and throwing himself into preparing his new album, on the 3rd he was discovered filming MV scenes at a certain toy store, he was wearing a tight spider costume and dancing with black masked colleagues, it looked like a friendly encounter between "spider man" and "The Green Hornet", it was pretty interesting.

People online posted the original post from the toy store boss online "Today Jay Chou came to the store to film an MV, he was the MV director, also Jay Chou was in the shot", in the post it states that on the day staff suddenly came to the store to ask if they could borrow it to film an MV, as soon as they found out that the director was Jay Chou and that he would be coming to the set, it was like a gift from above, the boss lent out the store without hesitation, he also praised Jay Chou for being so good natured privately.

To this Jay Chou's JVR Music yesterday said: "Because this isn't a public work schedule, we can't reveal information about it." But from reports he was indeed filming scenes for a new song's MV, from the scenes it is cute scherzo style song. It has been a year and a bit since his last album, his new album is estimated for release in April, in June he is going to hold a concert at the Taipei Arena, then he will begin his world tour, this year he is returning to music.

Sandra Bullock Wins 2 Razzies on Oscar Eve

Sandra Bullock took the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild award, the Critics' Choice Movie Award and is the odds-on favorite to win as Best Actress at Sunday night's 2010 Oscars – but those are for her true-life role in the drama The Blind Side.

For her multi-dimensional part of a newspaper crossword puzzle writer in the 2009 comedy All About Steve, Bullock has now claimed the fun award: the 2010 Golden Raspberry, or Razzie.

Besides the singular distinction for Bullock, All About Steve, which also starred Bradley Cooper in the titular role, also took the worst-screen-couple accolade (for Bullock and Cooper together).

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was cited as worst picture and for worst director (Michael Bay) and screenplay. Worst actor honors were divided among the Jonas Brothers for the Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience.

This also being the 30th anniversary of the Razzies, which were founded by irreverent copywriter and publicist John Wilson, special prizes were given for worst-of-the-decade selections. Those dis-honored include Battlefield Earth as worst picture of the 00's and, for their acting performances, Eddie Murphy and Paris Hilton.

Lindsay Lohan makes it to Viktor & Rolf fashion show... as stars head home for the Oscars

Whether its New York, London or Rome, Fashion Week is defined by the celebrities in attendance.

But as the Hollywood actors flood out of Paris ahead of tomorrow night's Oscars, there aren't many A-listers left to occupy the front row.

Luckily Lindsay Lohan was on hand to fill the gap as Dutch designers Viktor & Ralph showed their designs today.

Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series Bridges the Gap Between the Computer and TV

One of the biggest parts of Microsoft’s keynote back in Barcelona, during Mobile World Congress, was the fact that Windows Phone 7 Series would finally do what everyone had been wishing for: integrate Xbox LIVE. They did show a couple screens of the hubs and subsequent tiles, and what it would all look like by the time this holiday season rolls around, but we were missing the most important part. We needed to see it in action. Well, ladies and gentlemen, that time has come. But, what we’ve been presented with has taken things to a whole new level.

The common assumption was that arcade games would just work on the 7 Series devices. You’d be able to shop from the same Marketplace, and you’d have your Gamerscore updated as you accomplished the necessary Achievements. All the standard material. But, as Eric Rudder showcases here at the TechEd Middle East conference, it goes beyond that. He shows us that he starts an arcade-style game, based on the popular fiction character Indiana Jones, from his computer. But then he tells us that when he needs to leave work, he can move the game (which has saved his level (approximately)) to his 7 Series device and play it on the bus on the way home.

Skype pulled from Nokia’s Ovi store in the US, Verizon Wireless to blame?

Skype users that own a Symbian-powered Nokia handset will have to go the extra mile to install Skype on their handset. As noticed following Wednesday’s debut of Skype in the Ovi store, Skype is reportedly not available for Nokia owners in the US. In response to an email from Venture Beat, Sravanthi Agrawal, a member of Skpye’s corporate communications team, said the following:

“Skype has made a decision in the United States to not promote the Skype for Symbian app through the Ovi Store. We did this so that we could drive more attention to the recently announced Skype and Verizon Wireless agreement. This was a marketing decision — plain and simple.

“Skype users in the U.S can still download Symbian by going directly to Skype.com.”

Jacky learns to use the internet from his daughter so he can promote his songs on-line

Yesterday, Jacky Cheung attended a charity cookie selling event as the ambassador for the Helping Hand organization. During the event, he indicated that recently, his focus has been on promoting his new album. As for the recent ‘shakeups’ at ATV that have even resulted in a legal battle, Jacky says that he is aware of the situation, but feels that since it is an internal matter at ATV, he does not have the right to comment on it and also that there is nothing to worry about. (Are you worried that in addition to not being able to ‘appear’ on TVB, now you won’t be able to go on ATV either?) Jacky replied: “If there are problems at ATV and I am not able to go on anymore, I can always go on i-cable or other radio stations, so I’m not worried!” Asked whether he would consider arranging his own album-promoting events instead of relying on the various TV and radio stations, Jacky was in agreement and confirmed that he will be holding a ‘mini-concert’ in the near future. With regard to artists nowadays utilizing the internet to interact with their fans, Jacky said: “My knowledge of computers is very poor, however I do believe that soon I will probably need to rely on the internet to promote my songs, so I will need to ask my daughter to help me enhance my computer and internet knowledge.”

Paula Abdul Turned Down $2 Million Deal To Co-Host “Dancing With The Stars”

Paula Abdul waltzed away from a $2 million offer to replace Samantha Harris as co-host of the upcoming 10th season of Dancing With The Stars. Despite the sweet deal, ABC producers failed to get the ex-Idol judge to sign on the dotted line, according to a report featured in the March 15 issue of The National Enquirer.

“The offer was flattering, but in the end she passed. Frankly, Paula doesn’t need the money and she didn’t want to leap into another reality TV contest right away.”

Word is Paula was offered $1 million to appear as a contestant on this season’s show, but when Samantha quit the show to continue her work as a correspondent with Entertainment Tonight, the network doubled the offer.

A tipster tells The Enquirer: “They offered to redecorate her dressing room, threw in a $500,000 wardrobe budget, and agreed to let Paula wear more than designer dress per show. They also tried to sweeten the deal by allowing Paula to develop her own sitcom and do The X Factor with Simon Cowell when he starts the show in 2011.”

'Alice in Wonderland' on track to break all March records

Disney Studios sure chose the right date with its March premiere of Alice in Wonderland. The Tim Burton-Johnny Depp collaboration debuted Friday to close to $40 million, putting its 3-day cume in the range of $110-$120 million. That far surpasses the previous March record-holder, Warner Bros.’ 300 which opened to $71 million back in 2007. Overture Films’ release of the R-rated cop drama Brooklyn’s Finest bowed in similar fashion to the R-rated films of the past few weeks, earning an estimated $4 million on Friday for a early weekend estimate of $14 million.

R-rated thriller Shutter Island looks like it will drop an average 40% its third weekend in release, for a $4 million Friday and a $13 million three-day take. Last weekend’s debut Cop Out from Kevin Smith is likely to fall 50% for its sophomore session. The Bruce Willis-Tracy Morgan combo generated around $3 million on Friday, putting its weekend total in the $9 million range. And Avatar has finally fallen like a normal film after 12 astounding weekends in the release. With Alice taking the majority of 3-D screens, Avatar is likely to lose close to 40% this frame with an almost $2 million Friday and a weekend take of a bit over $8 million. Check back here tomorrow when I post the final results.

Well apparently it’s going to be made official sometime in the next few weeks (hello, CTIA!) and will feature one added but obvious goodie: MOTOBLUR. Since we know most of you don’t have encyclopedic memories, here’s a bit of a refresher on what we’ve been told this phone is all about:

Directors express interests in making Brother Sharp biopic

The homeless but very stylish Brother Sharp recently burst into fame after his pictures were posted on the Internet. After receiving much attention from netizens all over Asia (and the World), he was finally recognized by his family in the Jiangxi province. They traveled to the city of Ningbo to pick up Brother Sharp, who was identified as Cheng Guo-Rong at 33 years of age, from the mental hospital and they will soon return home.

A number of directors from Hong Kong have already expressed interests in making a movie about Brother Sharp. The story of his experience as a homeless man and his acute sense of style raise many speculations.

Awarding-winning director Johnnie To was interviewed over the phone, “His image and actions are good points to start a story. It can keep the audience hooked, and the unexpected mismatch (of his style and homelessness) makes a pretty good plot.”
