Taylor Swift Album Set for Best Sales Week of Year

Taylor Swift's third album, released worldwide on Monday, is on track to score the biggest opening week of the year in the United States and could even hit one million copies, industry prognosticators said.

For now, the consensus has "Speak Now" selling between 800,000 to 900,000 copies by week's end on October 31. Depending on how quickly it flies out the doors during its first few days, the forecast could move toward one million.

So far the best sales week of the year belongs to Eminem's "Recovery," which arrived at No. 1 with 741,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The last album to sell one million copies in one week was Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III," which started its run with 1,006,000 units in June 2008.

"Speak Now's" sales must be music to the industry's ears, after many superstar album releases this year have failed to meet or exceed first-week expectations. Her last album, "Fearless," started at No. 1 with 592,000 in November 2008 and has sold 6 million copies to date.

Kristen Stewart Teaches Girls to Love Themselves!

Even though Kristen Stewart is 100 percent in Bella mode right now, getting ready to film Breaking Dawn, her fab flick Welcome to the Rileys hits theaters in the United States this Friday.

"I've always played girls who have had everything that they need, and this was the first time I played a survivor," Stewart tells E! News of her character Mallory in Rileys.

We wouldn't totally consider Robert Pattinson ditching K.Stew in New Moon exactly being on a lucky streak though...

Then again if you get to kiss Rob onscreen (and off, too, in Kristen's case) guess Bella isn't totally struggling.

Stewart went on to say how she really believes her character in WTTR is someone girls can look up to for a change:

"She definitely has the capacity to not be alone, to trust people, and let people in. That's good for any girl—that basic idea that you have to like yourself to have other people like you or love you. It's a big problem for girls, just innately. It's good for that, really good for that."

Couldn't agree more!

MacBook Air review (late 2010)

The MacBook Air has never exactly been a simple product to review. Since the laptop's launch back in the heady days of 2008, we've always considered it a niche, high-end product and much less a mainstream system. Originally, the wafer-thin (and somewhat underpowered) laptop sold for a painful starting price of $1,799, and had its fair share of problems. Well, we've come a long way from Apple's original play, with two all-new models of the Air. The first is an update to the standard 13.3-inch model priced at a significantly cheaper $1,299, while the newest entrant to the MacBook family is a tiny 11.6-inch model that's nearly the size of an iPad -- and not wildly more expensive, starting at $999. Of course, over time the market for laptops of this type has gotten quite crowded, with a slew of ULV-based thin-and-lights that offer lots of options for lots of budgets. Do the new MacBook Airs have enough to take on a crowded market, or have they been bumped out of the game altogether? Read on for the full review to find out!

Jon Stewart Voted "Most Influential Man"

Jon Stewart has been voted the "most influential man" in a poll conducted by AskMen.com.

The "Daily Show" host topped the list of 49 prominent men from politics, sports, entertainment, technology and philanthropy, which was voted on by more than half a million AskMen readers along with the site's staff.

Rounding out the top five were Microsoft's Bill Gates, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Apple's Steve Jobs and Kanye West.

AskMen claims that "Daily Show" is "our youths' most trusted source of information and its host the most trusted man in America."

Stewart is expecting more than 100,000 Americans at his Rally to Restore Sanity, which is set for Saturday in Washington D.C. A satellite rally also will take place in Los Angeles.

Stewart's fellow Comedy Central late-night host, Stephen Colbert, came in at No. 11.

President Obama landed at No. 21, one rank below "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner and just a notch above chef Ferran Adria. Conan O'Brien was listed at No. 12, 27 spots above his late-night compatriot David Letterman.

Charlie Sheen Leaves Hospital for Home

What on Earth happened to Charlie?

The one person with many of the details, Sheen's ex, Denise Richards, doesn't want to say too much so that she can spare their daughters Sam, 6, and Lola, 5, who were reportedly nearby when their father was taken to the hospital.

"We're in an amazing place, we've been getting along great for the last year, year-and-a-half," Richards, 39, said on The Joy Behar Show Tuesday. "We're doing our best, so as far as that situation, I'm trying to protect the girls from it as much as possible."

Sheen, 45, was found in a New York hotel room and hospitalized for what police sources say was intoxication and what his rep says was an allergic reaction to medication. Richards declined to reveal what she saw, but said, "I did help him at the hospital."

Sheen spent all day there Tuesday. "Charlie Sheen has been discharged from a hospital in N.Y. and is returning to L.A. today," his rep says. "Everything else is speculation."

White iPhone 4 delayed until spring

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The white iPhone 4 is delayed.

For those keeping track, yes, that is the third time you've read that headline since June. Apple is saying today that the white version of the iPhone 4 now won't be for sale until spring 2011. And that's after telling us in June that it would be delayed until late July, then in July putting off the ship date until "later this year."

Apple's quote today is, "We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we've decided to delay its release until this spring."

The PlayStation Phone

It's hard to believe that what we're looking at is real -- but we assure you, the picture above is in fact the PlayStation Phone you've long been waiting for. As we reported back in August, the device you see is headed into the market soon, likely boasting Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), along with a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow you to purchase and download games designed for the new platform. The device snapped up top (and in our gallery below) is sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches. Looking almost identical to the mockup we hit you with this summer, the handset does indeed have a long touchpad in the center which is apparently multitouch, and you can see in the photos that it's still bearing those familiar PlayStation shoulder buttons. For Sony buffs, you'll be interested to know that there's no Memory Stick slot here, but there is support for microSD cards.

The particular model in these shots is still in prototyping mode. As such, the unit doesn't have a custom skin (not even SE's Timescape design seen on the Xperia devices), and is said to be rather buggy. We're digging into more facts as we speak, but it's likely that much of what we reported earlier is still accurate, and though the device could still be headed for a 2010 release, 2011 is looking much more realistic. Still, there's a lot of time between now and the holidays... so keep your fingers crossed!

Kim Hyun Joong and Yoon Eun Hye for Basic House Winter

Back in August, Kim Hyun Joong and Yoon Eun Hye got together for Basic House casual look for their Fall collection. Now, the two have reunited once again for the Basic House Winter collection.

Some of the photos include items from the jelly beans and candy manufacturer Jelly Belly which is fitting as the concept is “Colorful and Sweet.” Check out the photos below.

Rihanna on Chris Brown: "I Needed That Wake-Up Call"

More than a year after Chris Brown pled guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009, the 22-year-old singer tells the December issue of Marie Claire UK that she doesn't regret the traumatic experience.

"God has a crazy way of working, and sometimes when stuff happens you feel like, 'What did I do to deserve this?' Why was it backfiring on me?'" she recalls. "But I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that's what God was giving to me."

At the time, however, Rihanna says it was difficult to go through such a painful relationship in the public eye.

"All this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down," she says. "[But] once you're back on your feet -- if you ever make it back on your feet -- that's the ultimate achievement."

Still, she admits it wasn't easy to break up with Brown, 21, who later pled guilty to a felony and accepted a plea deal that included more than 1,400 hours of community labor in addition to five years probation.

Taylor Swift, Jake Gyllenhaal Go Apple Picking

Saturday Night Live wasn't Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal's first outing together this past weekend.

The two were spotted Saturday at the Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction, N.Y, where they toured fall foliage and went apple-picking, reports the new Us Weekly (on newsstands Wednesday).

"They were walking through the trees, having fun together," says a local. "They looked happy."

Adds the witness, "Some of the customers tried to take a photo of them, but they were hiding from them in the trees. They drove through the orchard and bought the apples on the way out." (Gyllenhaal, 29, paid the $3 tab.)

It was just the first stop of a romantic Big Apple weekend, which included a trip to a SNL taping and Sunday brunch in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood, as UsMagazine.com reported Monday.

Says a source, "The relationship is very new, maybe two or three weeks old. I’m not sure who pursued whom — but they’re both into it."

Rumor: Google Nexus Two will be available by the end of this year

Take this one with a pinch of salt. The rumor du jour is that there will in fact be a Google Nexus Two, despite earlier claims from Google that this won’t be the case.

City AM has some sources that claim the smartphone will be available in the UK in time for the holidays, and will be sold exclusively through Carphone Warehouse.

Now this is interesting. There’s no mention of a release time frame for the US. This may just not have been of interest to the source, but on the other hand may mean Google will push the Nexus Two primarily in Europe. Which would make sense – Android devices are doing very well in the US. Perhaps the Nexus Two would help push sales up elsewhere in the world.

Emulator runs DOS, Windows on an iPad

So this was cool enough that I had to drop what I was doing (cleaning out my desk) to write it up.

Somehow, Apple has approved a DOS emulator for the iPhone and iPad and it's on the App Store for 99 cents. Better yet, someone managed to load Windows 3.0 on the thing.

The app, iDOS, is universal, working well on iPads and iPhones alike. It features such niceties as a retro grimy keyboard, floppy drive, and attached sticky notes, along with a coffee-stained notepad.

But if you want it, you probably better buy it quick. I suspect it's going to be a race between Apple's store monitoring team and Microsoft's lawyers over who can cry foul first.

Shin Se Kyung & SHINee’s Jonghyun confirmed to be dating!

A new couple has emerged onto the industry with actress Shin Se Kyung (21) and SHINee’s member Jonghyun (21), revealing that they are currently dating.

After finding that they both had an interest in one another, they began their relationship about a month ago and has confirmed it through Sports Seoul. The two were revealed to have gotten together as often as they could despite their busy schedules, having street dates mainly around Shin’s apartment.

Still worth his weight in gold: Stunning new image of King of Pop Jacko (as it's revealed he earned £175m last year)

Michael Jackson has been named this year's top-earning dead celebrity, with earnings of nearly £175million.

The singer, who died aged 50 in June 2009, earned a staggering £173million over the past twelve months - more than pop stars Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jay-Z combined.

His earnings were also more than the other 12 celebrities on the Forbes list, which included John Lennon, Steve McQueen and Elvis Presley.

Forbes writer Lacey Rose said: 'Jackson's spot atop our top earning dead celebrities list should come as no surprise given the renewed fan interest in music, videos and all things Michael Jackson.

Charlie Sheen Hospitalized After Naked Run-In With Police at NYC Hotel

Charlie Sheen has long maintained a reputation as a Hollywood bad boy, and now an apparently wild night in the Big Apple has everyone talking. The actor, who is in town with ex-wife Denise Richards and daughters Sam and Lola, reportedly trashed his suite at the Plaza Hotel overnight after realizing his wallet was missing, causing hotel security to call the police.

According to the New York Post, when the authorities arrived at around 2AM on Tuesday, Sheen was both drunk and naked, having badly damaged his surroundings in a fit of rage. Police described Sheen as being "emotionally disturbed" when they arrived.

Police gave Sheen a choice between jail and treatment, and he was subsequently admitted to a New York hospital, accompanied by Richards. Sheen's rep, Stan Rosenfield, tells PopEater, "Charlie had an allergic reaction to some medication" and is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday.

Adding a scandalous sheen to this already-bizarre story, a source tells Life & Style magazine that the star was entertaining an escort at the time of his alleged outburst. "She was fearing for her life and was naked," the source says of the woman, who was allegedly hiding in the hotel room closet. "Charlie was incoherent but started screaming slurs at the cops."

BlackBerry PlayBook demoed courtesy of RIM's Mike Lazaridis and Adobe's Kevin Lynch

RIM has now uploaded the full video of its PlayBook's brief stint in the limelight during Adobe MAX yesterday, where Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch and none other than Mr. BlackBerry himself, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, take the "professional tablet" through its very first public test drive on the keynote stage. The duo run through an MRI scan viewing app -- presumably in an attempt to woo the lucrative medical market -- along with the PlayBook's Air-based video player and browser-embedded Flash player, both of which seem to work pretty well. We also get a quick look at the tablet's multitasking cards, where we see that apps continue to function even from within their card views; it looks pretty nice, but at a glance, it doesn't do any tricks webOS wasn't pulling off a year ago.

Interestingly, the edited video has a number of cuts -- some seem like harmless attempts to cut out boring parts, but there are a couple suspicious ones where we suspect something unsavory happened on the PlayBook or it ran just a little slower than RIM would've liked (of course, with the PlayBook's release still months out, they've got plenty of time to tighten that up while they wait for developers to submit their wares in exchange for a free PlayBook of their own). At the end, Lazaridis expertly skirts Lynch's question of when exactly the device will be released... and he didn't even need a seasoned PR rep standing next to him to deflect it! Follow the break for the full demo.

SNSD reaches 1st on Oricon, makes history… again

We previously reported that SNSD made history by ranking number 2 on Oricon’s weekly chart. Apparently, the girls have made history once again on the Japanese music chart by finally reaching 1st on the Oricon Daily, today with their single “Gee“.

They will be the first non-Japanese Asian girl group to reach number 1 on the daily chart. As of now, SNSD holds both 1st and 10th on the chart with their previous single “Genie” taking number 10.

In further news, the MV teaser of their new single “Hoot” has reached over a million views on Youtube.

Office 2011 for Mac goes on sale; Windows 7 Service Pack 1 RC released

Microsoft will be releasing its Q1 2011 earnings on October 28 this week. And on the 28th and 29th, the company will be holding its first Redmond-based Professional Developers Conference. But there have been lots of other Microsoft-related happenings over the past few days (and it’s only Tuesday).

Office 2011 for Mac goes on sale: On October 26, Microsoft began selling Office 2011, the new Office release for Mac OS X users at retail. Microsoft released to manufacturing Office 2011 on September 10. There are three SKUs, or versions: Office for Mac Home & Student 2011, Office for Mac Home & Business 2011 and Office for Mac Academic 2011. Pricing ranges from $99 to $279, depending on the SKU and number of installs allowed.

Mac Office 2011 replaces Entourage with Outlook and adds back Visual Basic for Applications support to the product. Mac Office 2011 gets a Ribbonized user interface, similar to the one built into the recent Windows versions of Office, and will be a 32-bit product only. The suite includes in-client integration with Office Web Apps, the Webified versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Microsoft officials also say the new suite will be faster to launch, scroll and perform calculations than previous versions of Office for Mac.

Robert Pattinson Says No to Simon Cowell

Everyone wants a piece of Robert Pattinson—including ex-Idol Simon Cowell.

According to Britain's Sun, Rob turned down an offer to sign with Cowell's record label, Syco: "He is a clever guy, and he's created artists that he knows the public will like, that's why I don't think he could ever launch my music career."

This coming from Hollywood's most sought after star...

It totally doesn't surprise us though. Rob is a chilled, laid-back guy who isn't looking for fame. He's just looking to do what he loves!

"I am selfish with my music. I get my guitar and I play what I like, but the problem is I don't think many other people would like it," 'fessed R.Pattz.

"I see myself playing in a rundown blues bar, with about three people drowning their sorrows. I play according to my mood, and sometimes that can come across as very depressing in music."

Let's hope there are no blues tunes now that he's working again with Kristen Stewart.

Still, just because Cowell isn't Rob's type doesn't mean there's bad blood.

"I love Simon, I think he is a great personality, and I think his shows are entertaining," Pattinson reportedly says.

Heartbroken Carey Mulligan casts an unkempt and lonely figure on the red carpet

She's been dumped and she's homeless - and it seems the single life in a down-market hotel is certainly taking its toll on Carey Mulligan.

The star was looking pale and wan on the red carpet in Los Angles last night at the Annual Hollywood Awards Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Wearing a maroon draped Giles silk dress and Roger Vivier peep toe heels while sporting minimal make-up and unkempt hair, she struggled to raise a smile for the cameras.

The 25-year-old - who can pocket up to £3.5million a movie - is currently staying at a £69-a-night Best Western after splitting from Transformers star Shia La Beouf.

The hotel is on a busy main road in a noisy part of town, which might explain her tired appearance.

Steve Jobs Went Bananas When Microsoft Bought Halo's Creators

Before Halo, Bungie had made a name for itself developing the Marathon series of shooters on the Mac. So when the studio was bought by Microsoft to make games for the Xbox, Apple boss Steve Jobs was pissed.

"As soon as we announced we bought Bungie, Steve Jobs called," former Microsoft VP of game publishing Ed Fries tells Develop.

"He was mad at [Microsoft CEO Steve] Ballmer and phoned him up and was angry because we'd just bought the premier Mac game developer and made them an Xbox developer."

He was so mad, in fact, that he needed to be called and talked back from the outskirts of cranky town.

"...I got an email from Steve Ballmer asking me to phone Steve Jobs and calm him down about the whole thing," Fries continues.

"Anyway, we did this deal with Apple where we'd port some PC games to the Macintosh and help Peter Tamte create this company to do it, and I had to go to a Mac developer conference and get on stage and talk about this whole new partnership. It was a pretty strange time."

White iPhone 4 evidence shows up in Apple Store app's update?

So, you may or may not have noticed that this morning, Apple updated its own Apple Store app for the very first time, and version 1.1 has a little surprise. That's right, in the 'Reserve Products' screen, the much delayed white iPhone 4 shows up as an option. Now, before you lose control of yourself, keep in mind that you can't actually reserve one... yet. Of course, this could just be some sort of cruel glitch in the system, or it could be a tiny bit of evidence that the white iPhone is actually, finally on its way. At the very least, we know that Apple's still thinking of it... just like us.

Apple's now removed the white iPhone 4 references, but don't worry: we'll always have that screen grab.
