Adam Lambert's New Single: Love It or Hate It?

Jay Leno had a pair of contrasting guests on The Tonight Show last night.

First, there was Sarah Palin, mocking her own idiocy by reading notes off her hand again. What a joker!

Then, there was musical guest Adam Lambert. It's safe to assume Palin wouldn't include him in her fantasy version of "real America."

The singer debuted a new single on the program, "Sleepwalker."

All 10 American Idol Ladies Show Up: Results Vary

Randy Jackson said the guys were "hot" last night.

Even though Randy was exaggerating, if not flat-out lying, the American Idol ladies needed every inch of vocal cord to make up for Tuesday's very lackluster start to the second week of voter-fueled competition.

With week-one fave Crystal Bowersox's Idol fate unknown until the last moment, there was a chance that only nine ladies would take the stage Wednesday.

But lucky for her, for the show, for all of us—Crystal returned looking and, better yet, sounding healthy.

Was that good enough, though? And how did everyone else do?

HTC issues second Apple lawsuit statement: “consumer choice is key”

After HTC’s rather shell-shocked statement yesterday on the Apple patent lawsuit – in which they admitted they’d only heard about it via the flurry of media reports – the company has released a second announcement in which the lawyers have obviously had a bigger input. The company again insists it “values US and international patent rights” but goes on to claim that it “believes that consumer choice is a key component to success in the smartphone industry and this is best achieved through multiple suppliers providing a variety of mobile experiences.”

“HTC is a mobile technology innovator and patent holder that has been very focused over the past 13 years on creating many of the most innovative smartphones. HTC Corporation values U.S. and international patent rights and will work with in the U.S. Judicial System to protect its own innovations and rights.

HTC believes that consumer choice is a key component to success in the smartphone industry and this is best achieved through multiple suppliers providing a variety of mobile experiences. HTC has focused on offering its customers a uniquely-HTC experience through HTC Sense and its broad portfolio of smartphones.

The creator of this new iPhone 4G concept sees it as having multiple color versions, a front-facing video calling camera, 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, and MicroSD card slot.

Will Pan is too sunny for Rainie?

If Rainie Yang had to choose between “Xiao Zhu” Show Luo and “Handsome Pan” Will Pan to be her boyfriend, which would she choose?

Rainie had filmed “Miss No Good” with Will before and had worked with Show in “Hi! My Sweetheart.” Since both Will and Show are super popular idol stars, fans were extremely envious of Rainie when she filmed kissing scenes with them. But to everyone’s surprise, Rainie actually commented that kissing Will and Show was like committing incest because they are very good friends, so kissing felt awkward.

Despite being disgusted, there was still a difference between kissing them. Rainie commented that both Will and Show are very funny in person. When filming a kissing scene with Will, they would immediately start laughing the moment they saw each other face to face, causing numerous “NGs” (bloopers). They laughed non-stop, so they ended up kissing each other over and over again. When filming a kissing scene with Show on the other hand, they would complete it with one take, as they both don’t want to have a retake because that would make things awkward.

Other than a prior engagement to shoot a commercial in May, the girls plan to spend the rest of their time rehearsing for this upcoming concert. They have already declined three game companies’ offers to appear in their advertisements, sacrificing millions of NT. S.H.E laughs, “In addition to rehearsing during the day, every night we spend time beautifying our thighs so that they will be in their best condition.”

Rihanna celebrates 22nd birthday by dirty dancing the night away at surprise party

If she was expecting to enjoy a quiet night in on her 22nd birthday then Rihanna was sorely disappointed.

Her rumoured new boyfriend, baseball star Matt Kemp, threw her a raucous surprise party.

He even arranged for a 4ft tall stripper, Bridget The Midget, to give Rihanna a lapdance, as she sat laughing in a chair.

A source told a U.S. magazine: 'It was a little female person. She thought it was funny.'

And despite not expecting the bash, Rihanna soon got into the party spirit.

At one point Rihanna and a female guest were grinding away on the dance floor, making the most of the time off.

Tiffany Hsu over Ethan Ruan's hotel incident: I Believe You

Ethan Ruan has always had a healthy image, but yesterday, news revealed that on the 28th of last month, he took another girl to a hotel room at Taichung for 7 hours. The news took everyone by surprise, but one who was most in shocked was his girlfriend, Tiffany Hsu. Yesterday, she attended her filming sessions as scheduled and completed some scenes at a restaurant in the Xinyi district. When she left, she was surrounded by the media and she shyly said, “I believe him,” then rushed into the car to return home. Later, Ethan, accompanied by his assistant, took out his keys and entered their home. It was the first time they met again after the scandal broke out.

Ethan explained to the media that he and the girl was “in the same room but not on the same bed,” and which his “friend arrived a little later to meet up with them.” Although the explanation still seems suspicious, Tiffany has chosen to believe in her boyfriend, “I give my full trust in my relationship. I believe everything that my boyfriend says.” When asked if Ethan had cried due to the news, Tiffany thought about it for moment and replied, “Crying is not the main point. He should know what he needs to do.”

Is Apple is out of good ideas?

Patents are very important — they help the small guys with really great ideas protect themselves. They give those people and companies a real chance in a world that’s dominated by large organizations that build their business on stealing great ideas. That said, holding a patent isn’t a sure-fire way to protect yourself, but it certainly helps.

When large companies use their portfolio of patents to squeeze out competition, however, it really should be considered anti-competitive. A good example of how patents shouldn’t be used is how Apple is trying flex their muscles to HTC, which is infringing their generic “multi-touch” patent. Thankfully for HTC, Google is on their side, and won’t let Apple have their way.

Pre-release tracking indicates the Disney film could ring up $75 million or more through Sunday. "Avatar" opened to $77 million in mid-December on its way to becoming the biggest movie of all time.

LG’s first Windows Phone 7 device to be called LG Panther?

However, a blog in the UK claims that the smartphone will be named LG Panther. They don’t say whether LG or Microsoft spilled this detail, but the name sounds pretty good and it suits perfectly a high-end device.

More BlackBerry slider pics appear -- is this the next Bold?

What looked like a drizzle last night seems to be turning into a full on downpour. The folks over at BlackBerry Leaks have gotten themselves even more facetime with that mysterious BlackBerry slider device -- and it looks a lot better than we thought. Right now the theories are flying about just exactly what kind of phone this is, with BBL suggesting it might be the next phone in the Storm family, while Kevin over at CrackBerry has it on good authority that this new handset will be part of the Bold line. Kevin also says that the rumors he's heard on this device call for a 360 x 480 touchscreen display (sans SurePress) and expectations for BlackBerry OS 6.0 to be onboard. The pictured phone apparently has a battery issue which is keeping it from powering up, but hopefully someone will find a way to spark this thing to life and we can get some more solid info. For now, check out one more pic after the break.

Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros

Craftily unhidden at the tail end of its press conference, Acer's long-awaited Aspire 1820PT convertible laptop has finally passed into our hands for ever the briefest of moments. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Strong hinge, accelerometer for tablet mode, capacitive multitouch, and the ability to use stylus for input (protected in a slot just below and to the right of the screen when not in use). Beyond that, seems like the typical underpowered laptop you know and love -- well, maybe not love, but you get the idea. Under the hood there's an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB RAM, and 320GB HDD, all priced at 599 euro, which we'd venture a guess to mean it'll be about $599 when it comes to the US (actual release date MIA). Gallery below, and brief video demonstration after the break.

The singer also wore a military-style jacket, ripped fishnets and a fan hairpiece with a long veil after recording an interview and performance for Jonathan Ross's chat shot.

Google responds to Apple's HTC lawsuit: 'We stand behind our Android operating system'

We were wondering when Google would have something to say about Apple's patent lawsuit against HTC, since the majority of the claims appear to implicate Android itself, and while the knives aren't out yet, we just got a short-but-sweet statement from a spokesperson:

"We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it."

Jessica Simpson: I "Don't Accept" John Mayer's Apology

Jessica Simpson is forgetting, but not forgiving, her ex John Mayer.

During her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show airing Wednesday, Simpson, 29, says that she tried to read the controversial Playboy interview in which he called her "sexual napalm" and compared her to crack cocaine.

"I tried to read the article, and I was so disappointed in him," she tells Oprah Winfrey. "It made me so sad, and it was really discouraging because that's not the John that I knew...I hope he gets his life together."

Apple could force HTC to remotely cripple smartphones warns patent expert

So, Apple and HTC are fighting – and Google are being drawn into the fray – but what does that mean to device users now? While it would be easy to write-off Apple’s patent tantrum as a non-issue to those people toting a Nexus One or HTC Hero, or considering picking up an HTC Legend next month, according to one IP expert the repercussions could have surprising impact not only on future handsets but on existing smartphones.

Harvard Law School professor Jonathan Zittrain reckons the HTC/Apple case could have parallels with the TiVo/EchoStar lawsuit that kicked off all the way back in 2004. There, after a protracted battle, EchoStar were forced to update their existing DVRs with software that removed the contentious functionality. In fact, Zittrain says that “if the court were to side with Apple and issue an injunction that insists HTC kill the phone, or at least some of its functionality, they easily could.”

Even AT&T's CEO Thinks the Wi-Fi Version of the iPad Is the Better Option

People have been thinking long and hard for well over a month now whether they'll buy the Wi-Fi version which is available this month, or wait for next month's 3G model. AT&T isn't arguing their case well here.

Chief executive Randall Stephenson said at an investor conference yesterday that the iPad will mostly be a "Wi-Fi driven product," adding his thoughts on the likelihood of someone wanting a second contract. At least they know the score of the game. [Reuters]

Rumors swirl about reasons behind 2PM singer’s departure

The question of whether Park Jae-beom, the former lead singer of the K-pop boy band 2PM, will rejoin the group after he was let go in September has finally been answered, but that hasn’t kept fans from speculating about the reason for his departure.

Last Thursday, fans were surprised to read a posting on the Web site of the group’s management agency, JYP Entertainment, confirming the singer would not return to the group.

In the posting, the agency said it had been preparing for Park to make a comeback in April and that it had even scheduled a press conference for February to announce his return. The agency went on to say, however, that in December Park had called Jeong Uk, one of the directors of JYP Entertainment, to tell him he had done something very wrong last summer, while the group was promoting the single “Again and Again.”

Although the agency declined to say what the “something” was, it did say that it was a personal problem that could not be reported and that it was far more serious than what the former front man had done last September.

Jay Chou gets an image makeover to improve luck

The Tiger year has gotten off to a rough start for Taiwanese singer Jay Chou.

The award-winning R&B singer recently exchanged verbal insults with Taiwanese rapper, Dog G, and got burnt by allegations from ex-label-mate, Devin Wu, who claimed that she lost her virginity to him when she was just 16.

At the Sprite Original Music Awards in Shenzhou, China, a few nights ago, the 31-year-ols sported a beard on his face. The new, masculine appearance, he explained, is because he has been “quite unlucky lately. I have to change my image to change my luck” by having an image makeover.

Luck or not, the singer maintained his streak of multiple wins at ceremonies. He was the biggest winner that night with six awards under his belt. He also won the Best Duet award with his junior, Cindy Yen.

Lee Hyori on comeback 4th album, “Had me anticipating and nervous”

Lee Hyori talks about her comeback album, “This 4th album had me anticipating and nervous.”

Lee Hyori wrote on her fan cafe on 3rd March about her upcoming new album. She wrote, “Finally the 8 months of recording has ended. Now that the recordings are all done, we will try our best to release the album soon.” It was recently reported that she will have her comeback this month.

She added, “I’ve waited for so long. I wanted it to be released quickly but because I wanted it to be good as well, it took a long time. Even though it has always been the case, this time the album works were really tough.”

Ke$ha Blasts Britney Spears

SINGER Ke$ha has launched a scathing attack at Britney Spears.

The Tik Tok hitmaker — who featured on Britney’s track Lace And Leather — doesn’t like the fact Spears lip-syncs during her concerts.

“I think that’s bulls***,” she said. “I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.

“If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing. I would never do that to my fans.

“No offense to her specifically but people have asked me before to mime. I have been up at three in the morning for a television show with jet lag but I refuse to mime.

Idol: Lee DeWyze and Alex Lambert Step It Up

Last-minute change of plans: The top 10 men sang instead of the women — Crystal Bowersox had been sent to the hospital, but Seacrest didn’t say why. Instead he asked Ellen if she ever missed a show and she said, yes, American Gladiators and Bewitched. I like it when she delivers dippy little jokes. He then asked Simon which sex had the edge among the top 20, and Simon said it was the girls by “a smidge.”

Best of the night was Lee DeWyze, singing Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel.” I’m not sure if his rock-blues growl has a genuine kick to it, or if his style actually bores me silly, but he seems to understand how to carry a song from start to finish — possibly the only one of the guys who really does.

“I can hear you on the radio — right now,” said Kara. Simon told him, “You are head and shoulders” above the other guys, and may in fact “be the one to beat.”

The judges were also unanimously happy with Michael Lynche. He sang James Browns’s “This Is a Man’s World” to prove he was (in his words) “the main event” and not (Simon’s words) a mere intro act.

Fan Bingbing to Replace S. Korean Song Hye-kyo in Chen Kaige Film

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing is confirmed to replace South Korean star Song Hye-kyo for the leading role in Director Chen Kaige's upcoming historical drama, "Zhao's Orphan".

The replacement came a month after the film's production team announced that Song Hye-kyo was in talks for the role of female lead.

Despite claims of a normal cast shuffle, the incident led to a row over the recent statement by Song Hye-kyo's agent company denying that the star had ever received any invitation from the film's production crew or even met Director Chen in person. The statement also warned South Korea's domestic media to be cautious with the publicity stunt tactics of China's showbiz.

Coby $85 smartbook feels like a hundred bucks (hands-on)

Funny how our tune on smartbooks totally changes when one's got an $85 price tag. We happened upon Coby's booth at CeBIT this morning and of all the fairly cheap feeling laptops the company had on display it was its 7-inch NBPC722 smartbook that cozied right up to us. Okay, so it isn't as thin or attractive as the $499 Lenovo's Skylight, but again let us remind you that it costs about as much as a couple of new printer ink cartridges. Inside the little guy packs a 624MHz Marvell PXA303 processor, 2GB of flash storage and runs Windows CE which all should be good enough for some light Web browsing and e-mail writing. There was actually a YouTube shortcut on the desktop, but the NBPC722 wasn't connected to try it out. Apparently this inexpensive laptop should be making its way stateside this spring, but until the flowers start blooming you've got the video below.

Ethan Ruan explains hotel stay with mystery woman

Taiwanese model-turned-actor Ethan Ruan claimed that nothing happened between him and the woman he was spotted with at the Windsor Hotel Taichung in Taipei on Sunday.

Reporters spotted Ruan booking a suite at the hotel and heading up with a mystery woman. The pair did not leave till the following afternoon. Ruan paid the bill with his own credit card.

The 27-year-old actor told reporters in Taiwan on Tuesday that the woman was actually a friend's girlfriend and pointed out that while he did stay in the same hotel suite with her, they slept separately.

"That day, I was with a group of friends at a lounge run by a friend. We enjoyed ourselves till five in the morning. I did not drink much. Because it was late, my friend could not see his girlfriend home. I also did not have my house key and did not want to wake my mother, therefore I decided to stay at a hotel," explained Ruan.
