Ethan Ruan explains hotel stay with mystery woman

Taiwanese model-turned-actor Ethan Ruan claimed that nothing happened between him and the woman he was spotted with at the Windsor Hotel Taichung in Taipei on Sunday. Reporters spotted Ruan booking a suite at the hotel and heading up with a mystery woman. The pair did not leave till the following afternoon. Ruan paid the bill with his own credit card.
The 27-year-old actor told reporters in Taiwan on Tuesday that the woman was actually a friend's girlfriend and pointed out that while he did stay in the same hotel suite with her, they slept separately.
"That day, I was with a group of friends at a lounge run by a friend. We enjoyed ourselves till five in the morning. I did not drink much. Because it was late, my friend could not see his girlfriend home. I also did not have my house key and did not want to wake my mother, therefore I decided to stay at a hotel," explained Ruan.
"My friend wanted me to bring his girlfriend along to the hotel suite, where he was to join us once he had a few more drinks with his friends," he added. "I slept in the hall while his girlfriend slept in the bedroom. My friend later arrived and joined his girlfriend in the bedroom."
"We really did not do anything," he said. "If we did, would I be stupid enough to use my own name and credit card?"
Staff at the five-star Windsor Hotel Taichung said they could not reveal details about their guests and could not answer questions about this incident.
When Ruan's girlfriend, model Xu Weining, learned about the incident, she appeared to have been affected to some extent as she reportedly changed their relationship status on Facebook from "in a stable relationship" to "it's a long story".
Xu said through the head of her management company that "Ruan is too good to his friends, it can't be helped".
When contacted, former F4 member Vanness Wu, who was rumoured to be carrying a torch for Xu, said that "we [Wu and Xu] are good friends, if she needs anything, I am happy to help".
When asked how he would help, Wu, a devout Christian just said that he "would pray for her".
Wu's manager said it was unlikely that Wu will attempt to court Xu while her relationship with Ruan is on the rocks.
