The £ Factor: Cowell TV hits help him climb up the rich list... and Cheryl hasn't done badly either

He has threatened to quit Britain’s Got Talent because it takes up too much of his time.

But Simon Cowell may change his mind after seeing what his reality TV roles have done for his bank balance.

The music mogul’s wealth has rocketed by £45million in a year after winning back the rights to his hit shows, including Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor.

Cowell, 50, now has a fortune of £ 165million – and his is not the only X Factor success story to be revealed by this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

His co-star, Cheryl Cole, 26, has seen her wealth increase by 150 per cent over the last year, buoyed by the £1.2million she pocketed for the last series of the talent show.

Box Office Preview: Neither 'The Losers' nor 'The Back-Up Plan' are likely to generate much heat

Studios really need to be more careful when they title their films. This weekend at the box office just screams the inevitable headline: “The Losers is a loser for Warner Bros.” To be fair, the title isn’t an original, but rather the name of the popular Vertigo comic book about a group of mercenaries who wage war on the CIA. Still, with Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Chris Evans as its marquee names, The Losers will have a challenge going up against the star wattage of Jennifer Lopez’s movie return in the romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan. Even then, neither film is likely to nab the top spot in theaters. Should it resonate with its core female audience, The Back-Up Plan has a better shot at number one. But more likely, that honor will go to How to Train Your Dragon, which in its fifth weekend in theaters should score better than either new release or, for that matter, last weekend’s winner Kick-Ass.

Why the box office malaise? Well, despite the fact that last year at this time Screen Gems’ Beyoncé Knowles thriller Obsessed bowed to $28.6 million, the weekend is often a downer for the month. Most kids are back in school and the studios are gearing up for their big summer tent-poles kicking off in May. This weekend should be no different and another first place title for Dragon will prove it.

How Fame Has Changed Kristen Stewart

In the latest issue of Flaunt magazine, Kristen Stewart admits she's just like many girls her age.

Not because she smokes, though readers are still debating whether or not this makes her a bad role model.

Instead, the actress tells the publication that she can be as insecure as anyone, especially with the spotlight now on her.

"I definitely act differently. I’m definitely overcoming a lot of it. The only insecurity I’ve developed is just being overly paranoid about everyone looking at you when they’re not," she says.

Stewart is also aware that she comes across as unfriendly. While Robert Pattinson knows the real Kristen, many others do not and this is why:

Windows 7 Pushes Microsoft’s Profits Up 34.5 Percent; Bing And Xbox Live Kicking It Too (Slides)

Another healthy quarter for Microsoft, which saw a 34.5 percent boost in net income to $4 billion, on top of a more modest 6 percent increase in quarterly revenues to $14.5 billion. (See full slides below). The return to growth was driven largely by sales of Windows 7, which were up 28 percent to $4.4 billion. (Windows Live is included in that, but it doesn’t yet produce much revenue, although Microsoft is about to update the products in Windows Live such as Hotmail and Messenger to make them more social).

Bing and Xbox Live were also strong growers, although on an absolute basis they weren’t enough to make much of a difference. At least the Xbox division (which includes the Zune and other entertainment products and devices) is no longer losing money, reporting $165 million in operating income on revenues of $1.7 billion. The online division cannot claim the same. Revenues were up 12 percent to $566 million, but It lost $713 million in operating income. That is about $300 million more than it was losing last year. That is okay, though, the $3 billion in operating income for the Windows division is up by $788 million from last year

Want an HTC EVO 4G? Sprint gives away ten of them

The HTC EVO 4G is still a few months away form official launch, but this hasn’t stopped Sprint to kick off the “Blaze across America with 4G” contest, which lets you win ten of the just-mentioned smartphones.

Unfortunately, the contest isn’t open to anyone. You have to be a Sprint Premier customer to be able to participate. Apart from that, you need to write a short “fast fact essay” (no more than 150 words) about yourself – “creativity, originality, humor and overall entertainment” are expected.

The next step is registering on Sprint’s official website. All entries must be submitted by May 9, 2010. Winners will be announced on May 18.

Facebook seeks more revenue, not control of Web, analysts say

Moves could boost Facebook's marketing revenue if they don't lead to another user revolt

Contrary to a lot of online buzz, analysts say that Facebook's moves this week don't indicate that the company is looking to take over the Web.

Facebook on Wednesday unveiled a bevy of development tools aimed at enabling the social networking phenom to extend its reach across a greater expanse of the Web.

The new tools let operators of other Web sites share user data with Facebook, providing the social networking firm with new online advertising opportunities.

Lane Bryant Commercial Ad Banned By ABC & FOX

The Big Girls aren’t welcome on The Alphabet: Plus-size label Lane Bryant says that a commercial advertising their new line of lingerie has been rejected by ABC and FOX.

Lane Bryant — which caters to the pleasantly-plum bodies of the world — was set to launch its campaign for Cacique, a new line of intimates, during this week’s Dancing With The Stars, but controversy erupted after ABC abruptly yanked the ad spot, insisting the models in the ad bared too much cleavage for the commercial to be aired in primetime.

Charlene stressed that she still has several years remaining in her contract with EEG. Furthermore, at the moment Charlene states that she is content with the work with EEG and is not looking to either change companies, nor is she looking to start her own company. However, Ah Sa admits that she has received calls from several companies inviting Charlene to sign with them.

Wonder Girls get humiliated in America?

On an Internet cafe website, a poster event with Wonder Girls was revealed. The netizen who put up this poster stated that it was an event that would be held at a local Korean mart.

In this poster, it states that you can receive a free Wonder Girls CD if you buy a bag of rice. Netizens who saw this poster expressed opinions such as, “Wonder Girls’ humiliation in America” and “Is this how little Wonder Girls are worth in America?”

On the other hand, others have retorted with opinions like, “It’s not easy to buy Korean artists’ CDs in America. This is probably why there was an event like this” and “I hope Wonder Girls will be successful soon.”

Meanwhile, Wonder Girls are preparing for an album to be released in May.

Jolin and Jay create new combination for World Expo theme song

Fan Ke-Chin (a media professional) has revealed that Jolin Tsai will be collaborating with Jay Chou's lyricist Vincent Fang and composer Michael Lin for the theme song, "Taiwan's Heartbeat," of the Taiwan exhibition at the World Expo. Having recently completely the recording, Jolin will be a symbol of the spirit of Taiwan in this MV appearance. Fan Ke-Chin expressed, "This is a different kind of combination for the Double J pair. Jolin uses her pure and beautiful voice, creating a beautiful, vibrant scene to bring the customs of Taiwan to the world."

The question of who would be doing the theme song for the upcoming opening of the Taiwan exhibition at the World Expo has been a much discussed topic. After Wang Leehom sang the song "I Smile When I See You" and participated in the promotional film, there was much talk surrounding this. Fan Ke-Chin, the man in charge of publicity and advertising for the Taiwan exhibition assessed things from all sides and ended up persuading Jolin Tsai to take on singing the theme song. He stated, "Originally, my thought was that if the lead singer was female, then it should be Jolin, and if the lead singer was male then it should be Jay Chou. In the end, it turned into a collaboration of the two good friends, Jolin and Director Jay. What a coincidence."

Nylon Magazine Young Hollywood Issue 2010, Featuring Vanessa Hudgens, Portia Doubleday, Ashley Greene

It’s that time of year again, Nylon is rolling out the red carpet for Tinseltown’s most elite as part of its annual Young Hollywood Edition. This year, the mag gives kudos to starlets Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Vanessa Hudgens (Bandslam, High School Musical).

Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that two of the young women selected Nylon’s honorary May issue (Vanessa and Ashley) have been the subjects of nude photo scandals? Just a thought.

Lady GaGa Considering Plastic Surgery?

Over the past two years, Lady Gaga has risen from virtual obscurity to become one of the biggest pop stars of the past decade, but according to salacious new scoop from London’s Now Magazine, the singer is suffering from such low self-esteem she wants to go under the knife to rid herself on her insecurities.

“She’s desperately unhappy but keeps talking about having thousands of dollars worth of plastic surgery,” one nervous tipster divulges. “She really thinks that could fix everything. She’s in a really bad way right now. She puts up such a guard that no-one ever really knows what she’s feeling. She thinks she looks too manly and spends hours looking at herself.”

Sandra Bullock Would Have Stayed With Jesse James If His Affairs Were Kept Quiet

Sandra Bullock would have forgiven her cheating husband Jesse James – if his numerous affairs hadn’t been made public.

Sources say the sexy Oscar-winner wishes James’ infidelities could have remained private so she didn’t have to leave him.

“Sandra would have stayed with Jesse had his cheating not been made public,” a source told Us Weekly magazine.

“They would have worked out their issues.”

Because James’ infidelities were made public, Bullock has been forced to take her career into consideration and has decided she has no choice but to walk away from their relationship.

Sources say the star has devised a “master plan” to end her marriage to the Monster Garage host.

“[The infidelity scandal has] broken her heart, and they will divorce,” a source told Fox News‘ 411 column.

Manager Wants All-Britney Spears Glee Episode

Britney Spears. Glee. Her manager wants to make an all-Britney episode happen ... or is just desperate for publicity and trying to leech off the hit series. Whatever the motivation, Adam Leber is lobbying for a Glee-ful Britney bonanza, Tweeting: “Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of GLEE?”

No word if this ploy will ultimately work. The show definitely had a hit with its Madonna tribute, and a Lady Gaga episode is in the works (according to Glee spoilers we've read), but no Brit. Yet. Not sure how we feel about this. Does Britney Spears really have an appropriate repertoire for the Glee club? It seems better in theory than actuality.

Then again, how can you not pay homage to this:

How Apple Conceals Prototype iPhones

There's a reason why more people haven't seen the next iPhones before Steve Jobs makes an announcement: They're in disguise.

This iPhone, which looks drastically different from the 3GS, was enclosed in a custom-molded plastic case so it could be used in public without attracting attention. In regular use, you would think that this was just a standard iPhone with the writing scratched off the back. Very clever.

Velocity Micro's Cruz Tablet has Android 2.1 with full Flash support

Some alleged spy shots of a brand-new Android tablet materialized in our inbox this afternoon, and after sending a few e-mails and making a quick phone call, we can confirm they're 100 percent legit: boutique PC retailer Velocity Micro's getting in the tablet game something fierce, with a whole new lineup of touchscreen devices it's dubbed "Cruz." Designed to compete with both e-readers and tablets, Cruz will appear in both 4 x 3 and 16 x 9 configurations over the coming months, with the high-end devices sporting 7-inch capacitive multitouch screens, 800MHz processors and Android 2.1 (complete with Flash 10.1) right out of the box. Best of all, Velocity Micro tells us they'll be relatively affordable -- all will arrive under the $300 line. A company rep couldn't tell us whether Android Market would be included or when exactly the tablets are due, but he hazarded a guess of "late summer." Hit up our gallery to see the first prototype.

T-Mobile myTouch Slide to be launched in June?

The first rumored launch date for the T-Mobile myTouch Slide was May 19, and yet it looks like the new smartphone may be delayed a bit.

According to TmoNews, the myTouch Slide will actually be released on June 2 – not such a big delay, but this is still not good news for those who have hoped to buy the new MyTouch next month.

The handset’s price is yet to be confirmed, but it could be somewhere around $150 (with a new 2-yr contract agreement, of course).

Wilber Pan attends Lady Gaga's concert as VIP, Japanese old ladies go crazy after him

On the 17th, Wilber Pan was invited as a VIP by Lady Gaga’s management company to attend her concert in Yokohama, Japan. On his way to the concert, Wilber was even recognized by elderly Japanese ladies who started yelling out his name and asking for signatures and pictures together. He was both surprised and overjoyed.

Since Wilber Pan is under the same record company as Lady Gaga, he received a VIP pass to attend the concert. He felt surprised and excited: “My own concert is also themed around the futuristic world, similar to Lady Gaga’s costume style. This mix of fashion and the future really matches. I’m quite happy that I have the chance to witness her stage presence live!”

But Wilber almost broke his neck in doing so; he joked: “I was using my head to rock to the beat. So I almost ‘beat’ my head off!”

It has already been 9 years since Wilber Pan took the Tokyo subway. This time, as an artiste, he wore his spectacles to the concert. Since his drama [Miss No Good] aired in Japan, many housewives started screaming when they saw him.

Ronald Cheng: Many Opportunity to Support Ah Sa

Last show of Twins' concert ended two nights ago and Ah Sa's ex-husband Ronald Cheng never went to support. Yesterday Ronald held a dinner banquet to celebrate good box office of his new film "Just Another Pandora's Box" (越光寶盒). Asked why didn't he go to support Ah Sa's concert? He explained that he was busy recording news songs in Taiwan, that's why he couldn't take time to watch the show; but he did text Ah Sa, wishing her a good show. Too bad that he missed Twins' show this time? He said: "It's not like they're not going to sing again, must have other opportunities, look at The Wynners, they said they're not going sing again, but has been singing these past 30 years."

As for TVB's "Fun With Liza and Gods" mocked his press conference, he said: "I'm interested in watching that episode. I looked at their pictures and think they did a good job portraying, even the clothes are very much alike. (feel unhappy being portrayed?) No! I portrayed many people too!"

Tabloids “Digging For Dirt” On Crystal Bowersox

Her down to Earth attitude and soulful vocals have Crystal Bowersox well on her way to striking gold at next month’s American Idol finale….and naturally here come the vulgars! The Sandusky Register, a local newspaper in Crystal’s hometown of Elliston, Ohio, claims that “celebrity gossip magazines” and various websites have been sneaking around town “digging for all the dirt they can find” on the crooner.

According to The Register, even a reporter from The National Enquirer has been snooping around and “looking for tips” about the private life of the single mother of one.

Lindsay Lohan Takes to Twitter to Bash Dad

That Lindsay Lohan has a strained relationship with her father, Michael, is hardly breaking news, and the actress has taken to her Twitter once again to slam her dad, after he brought cops to her apartment for an intervention.

Beginning at around 2:30 this afternoon, Lohan started a stream of tweets ranting against the family patriarch, beginning with, "I have no choice but to make this public, due to my sister's safety, as well as my own, 'my ex-dad' just WALKED INTO MY APT like the devil's advocate with officers...."

Lohan continued her tirade, tweeting, "Let's not forget, that my father KIDNAPPED me from a COURT ROOM when I was 4 years old and is CRAZY."

"When will it ever end... it's been going on my whole life with him -- hasn't he caused enough pain ?" another tweet read.

"My BUILDING didn't STOP him, isn't it supposed to be safe? THAT'S WHY I MOVED HERE! It coulda been FAKE cops! Dressed up!" Lohan continued. "My lawyer isn't answering I NEED A RESTRAINING ORDER! MY SISTER AND FRIEND TOO!!!!! HE'S NUTS!!!"

Rihanna Falls VIDEO

Oh dear — Rihanna carried on like a pro after almost falling flat on her face during a live show in France this week. The “Rude Boy” star was performing at Le Dome in Marseille Wednesday night when she lost her balance, slipped, and fell to the floor while sprinting across stage in high heels.

Not to worry, RiRi quickly regained her composure and completed the rest of her song without incident. The singer was hospitalized in Switzerland this week after injuring a rib.

Nick Cheung and Sammi Cheng bringing warmth to Xining

Tomorrow, Nick Cheung and Sammi Cheng will be traveling to Xining in the Qinghai region to visit quake victims and aid in relief efforts. Nick will only be able to stay 1 night there, as he will be heading off to Beijing the next day to attend an awards ceremony. Fellow artist Max Mok has already left for Xining today.

While attending an event yesterday, Nick talked about the preparations he has already gone through for the Xining trip: “I didn’t get any shots, but I have been taking the special medication to avoid illness from the high elevation levels. I will also be bringing a lot of clean drinking water.” Nick expressed that he is okay with not being able to enter the actual earthquake zone, as the most important thing is to be able to help the victims in whatever way possible, whether it’s through donating money or just showing concern. He says: “I am definitely willing to help out wherever needed. Hong Kong is a small place, but there are a lot of good-hearted, charitable people – it makes me proud to be a Hong Kong citizen.”

After hotel incident revealed, A-Mei drives around to relieve stress

On the third day after the ZhengMei Love was exposed as finished, A-Mei said that the hotel incident really wasn't the cause of her breakup with Sam Ho. "We agreed around December of last year that we should probably take a break for a while, because of the many problems and pressure that we had to deal with." However, her close friend revealed that the hotel incident was really the last straw, and after she heard about it, she immediately left alone for a long car ride.

Pleasant demeanor, protective words

A-Mei arrived in Kuala Lampur yesterday to rehearse for her concert on the 24th, but without her usual black sunglasses. She appeared chipper, and upon seeing the clustered reporters when she got out of her car, calmly said, "Don't push and shove, I'm not going anywhere." Continuing, she said, "Everything's fine, please don't worry too much, I know what I'm doing." She said that she didn't previously reveal the breakup with Sam because she wants to be more low-key about her relationships.

"However, this incident involved my family, as well as Sam's family, so I didn't want the bad press to continue." Did she reveal it now because she is protective of him? Is this not his first time cheating? "I'm going to choose not to answer that question, I don't think that he ever cheated! We are both grownups, and making new friends is very common. We are still good friends, and still call each other." She said that, since she is a celebrity, whoever goes out with her will be under immense pressure, so they should actually be pitied! On the relationship side, she admits that maybe she was at fault, but the outside world just doesn't know, so they shouldn't judge. She is evidently protecting him with her words.

Is Kristen Stewart Replacing Angelina Jolie?

Kristen Stewart is a Wanted woman!

Sources tell E! News that the studio and director behind the sequel to Wanted have expressed interest in snagging K.Stew to follow in Angelina Jolie's footsteps as the female lead, starring alongside James McAvoy.

While details are still pretty scarce, Stewart's character would be a young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity.

So is Stewart in, and Angie out?

Fergie's Idol Snake Suit: Slithering Success?

When Ryan Seacrest tweeted about Fergie's outfit from Idol Gives Back last night, we couldn't wait to see what all the fuss was about:

"At idol stage..black eyed peas rehearsing this second for tonight...what 'til u see what fergie is wearing."

Now that we've seen the snake-print metallic bodysuit and matching thigh-high boots, we realize he never actually offered an opinion on the over-the-top outfit.

So was Ryan being diplomatic in reserving judgment, or was he just trying to stay within the 140 character count?

Will Smith Tommy Lee Jones On Board For “Men In Black 3″ In 3D

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are heading back to the big screen for a third Men In Black movie, FOX News’ Showbiz 411 Column has learned.

The duo will reteam as Kay and Jay — roles they originated in the 1996 original — in a 3D sequel, we hear. MIB director Barry Sonnenfeld reportedly told Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman that, despite rumors of Will’s departure, the actor has signed on to return. Sonnenfield hinted that MIB could roll into the cinema just in time Memorial Day weekend 2011.

The last Men In Black film hit theaters in 2002. To date the hit franchise has earned over $1 billion at the international box office.

Apple, Please Fix These Problems Before the New iPhone Comes Out

There's a lot to be happy about in iPhone OS 4. Like multitasking, and threaded inboxes. So why doesn't it feel right?

iPhone OS 4 isn't a drastic overhaul, or a radical reinvention of the iPhone formula; it's just another predictable step forward. But the little things it delivers in response to popular whims are what feel most awkward and ill-fitting—things like custom wallpapers, folders and even the way it handles multitasking.

iPhone 4.0 is in still beta, which is a good thing, because that means Apple still has time to improve on what has been previewed. We're not sure how much will actually change between now and this summer, but here's what we hope Apple pays closest attention to as they get down to the wire:

Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 Now Available

The Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 was first introduced last May as a series of 6 applications that are designed to showcase Windows Touch in Windows 7 and to help people learn touch gestures. It consists of 3 casual games, and 3 Microsoft Surface applications that have been created for Windows 7.

Until today, the Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 was only available for OEMs to put on new Windows 7 PCs capable of Windows Touch. Due to feedback and requests from both partners and customers, we are releasing the Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 for anyone with Windows Touch capable devices to download.

Nexus One 3G Bugs No Longer Of Interest To Google

Start pricing up HTC's Desire or Incredible, Nexus One owners, as Google has put down its hammer and announced "we are no longer investigating further engineering improvements." You're stuck with those bugs for good.

Oh sure, they issued a patch, which didn't really do much, but Google feels enough is enough and is cutting the air supply off—according to Ry Guy, a Google employee who posted on their support forums. The full message, below:

Hero JaeJoong’s recent comment, “YunHo.ChangMin let’s wait together”

Apple's next big thing? Video, analyst says

Clues in future iPhones and iPads, massive data center point to video-based subscription services

Apple's next big thing may be a video platform that combines cameras in the next versions of the iPhone and iPad with the giant data center the company's building in North Carolina, an analyst said today.

During a quarterly earnings conference call with Wall Street and industry analysts Tuesday, Apple's chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer cited "future product transitions" as a contributing factor to the anticipated decline from a 42% margin for the year's first quarter to a 36% margin for the quarter ending June 30.

The conservative guidance isn't unusual: Apple typically underestimates its margins for upcoming periods, and often explains that "future product transitions" are one reason why it won't clear as much profit.

But one analyst read more into those tea leaves.

HP takes chisel in hand, mulls over Android and Linux slates

Feelings about the leaked HP Slate notwithstanding, the company's already considering its tablet PC successors -- and if The New York Times' sources are right, they may be of Android and Linux varieties. Where the forthcoming HP Slate is, erm, slated to run Windows 7, The Grey Lady reported last week that a six-inch Android tablet was also on the way. Now, a prominent magazine editor reportedly tells the paper a Linux version may also be in development. For its part, HP isn't denying the claims. "I'm certain that we will be announcing new Slates in the future as they are a very interesting area for us," said media relations director Marlene Somsak, whose only added caveat was that HP isn't currently announcing an Android slate.

Sandra Bullock Will Return Razzie

Talk about bad timing: Scandal-snipped star Sandra Bullock has agreed to return her Golden Raspberry award after accidentally collecting the original “priceless” trophy instead of a cheap replica intended for her during last month’s ceremony.

The 45-year-old Oscar winner was awarded the Worst Actress Razzie for her role in the 2009 comedic stinker All About Steve, but last week Razzie co-founder John Wilson issued a statement claiming Sandra was handed the original trophy, which is worth thousands of dollars.

After some investigative work by her reps, The Blind Side actress has agreed to the Razzie trophy to its rightful owners.

Nokia smartphone sales up, but Symbian^3 delayed; MeeGo device due this year

Nokia have announced their financial results for the last quarter, and the Finnish company reported a quarterly decline in both cellphone and smartphone sales though an increase in comparison to the same period a year ago. Overall 107.8m handsets – 21.5m of which were smartphones – were sold in the three month period, up from 93.2-percent in Q1 2009, but down from 126.9-percent in Q4 2009. Meanwhile, Nokia have confirmed that they will be delaying the release of Symbian^3 handsets until Q3 2010, with the first announcement expected sometime in the first half of this year.

“Nokia is planning to deliver a family of smartphones based on the Symbian^3 software platform that is targeted to offer a clearly improved user experience, a high standard of quality, and competitive value to consumers. We plan to launch the first smartphone based on Symbian^3 during the second quarter 2010, with shipments expected during the third quarter 2010.” Nokia financial report

Android 2.2 spotted in analytics data, running on Magic?

Hero owners, look away now. Google's Froyo appears to be almost ready to exit the freezer and enter handsets on an official basis. Since April 7, Android and Me have noticed visits from devices identifying themselves as having Android version 2.2 on board, while German site MobiFlip.de has come across pictures of a T-Mobile myTouch 3G (aka HTC Magic) that is supposedly running the latest software. The images are certainly easy to spoof (including a wonky looking .2), but their timing and our eternal optimism invite some attention. They indicate a new option for automatically pulling down app updates from the ether, which would be kinda neat, while Android and Me have also compiled a list of other rumored new features for Android 2.2 and confirmed with "sources familiar with the matter" that the new OS is indeed being tested right now. Their tip is to gaze expectantly toward the Google I/O conference starting on May 19 when we're sure to learn at least a little bit more. Considering Android 2.0 got a full features demo at that meetup last year, chances are good that Froyo will be on show in just under a month's time.
