Studios really need to be more careful when they title their films. This weekend at the box office just screams the inevitable headline: “The Losers is a loser for Warner Bros.” To be fair, the title isn’t an original, but rather the name of the popular Vertigo comic book about a group of mercenaries who wage war on the CIA. Still, with Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Chris Evans as its marquee names, The Losers will have a challenge going up against the star wattage of Jennifer Lopez’s movie return in the romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan. Even then, neither film is likely to nab the top spot in theaters. Should it resonate with its core female audience, The Back-Up Plan has a better shot at number one. But more likely, that honor will go to How to Train Your Dragon, which in its fifth weekend in theaters should score better than either new release or, for that matter, last weekend’s winner Kick-Ass.
Why the box office malaise? Well, despite the fact that last year at this time Screen Gems’ Beyoncé Knowles thriller Obsessed bowed to $28.6 million, the weekend is often a downer for the month. Most kids are back in school and the studios are gearing up for their big summer tent-poles kicking off in May. This weekend should be no different and another first place title for Dragon will prove it.

Recently, there have been several tabloid magazine reports indicating that Charlene Choi's contract with management company EEG will end at the end of 2010 and that Charlene Choi intends to pass Huayi Brothers Media Corporation's contract offer (100 million HKD over 2 years) and start her own management company with her father.
Today (April 22) at an LG Infinia New Products Release with Nick Cheung, Charlene took the opportunity to clarify the situation. Charlene stressed that she still has several years remaining in her contract with EEG. Furthermore, at the moment Charlene states that she is content with the work with EEG and is not looking to either change companies, nor is she looking to start her own company. However, Ah Sa admits that she has received calls from several companies inviting Charlene to sign with them.
It’s that time of year again, Nylon is rolling out the red carpet for Tinseltown’s most elite as part of its annual Young Hollywood Edition. This year, the mag gives kudos to starlets Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Vanessa Hudgens (Bandslam, High School Musical).
Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that two of the young women selected Nylon’s honorary May issue (Vanessa and Ashley) have been the subjects of nude photo scandals? Just a thought.

There's a reason why more people haven't seen the next iPhones before Steve Jobs makes an announcement: They're in disguise.
This iPhone, which looks drastically different from the 3GS, was enclosed in a custom-molded plastic case so it could be used in public without attracting attention. In regular use, you would think that this was just a standard iPhone with the writing scratched off the back. Very clever.

Some alleged spy shots of a brand-new Android tablet materialized in our inbox this afternoon, and after sending a few e-mails and making a quick phone call, we can confirm they're 100 percent legit: boutique PC retailer Velocity Micro's getting in the tablet game something fierce, with a whole new lineup of touchscreen devices it's dubbed "Cruz." Designed to compete with both e-readers and tablets, Cruz will appear in both 4 x 3 and 16 x 9 configurations over the coming months, with the high-end devices sporting 7-inch capacitive multitouch screens, 800MHz processors and Android 2.1 (complete with Flash 10.1) right out of the box. Best of all, Velocity Micro tells us they'll be relatively affordable -- all will arrive under the $300 line. A company rep couldn't tell us whether Android Market would be included or when exactly the tablets are due, but he hazarded a guess of "late summer." Hit up our gallery to see the first prototype.

The first rumored launch date for the T-Mobile myTouch Slide was May 19, and yet it looks like the new smartphone may be delayed a bit.
According to TmoNews, the myTouch Slide will actually be released on June 2 – not such a big delay, but this is still not good news for those who have hoped to buy the new MyTouch next month.
The handset’s price is yet to be confirmed, but it could be somewhere around $150 (with a new 2-yr contract agreement, of course).
Her down to Earth attitude and soulful vocals have Crystal Bowersox well on her way to striking gold at next month’s American Idol finale….and naturally here come the vulgars! The Sandusky Register, a local newspaper in Crystal’s hometown of Elliston, Ohio, claims that “celebrity gossip magazines” and various websites have been sneaking around town “digging for all the dirt they can find” on the crooner.
According to The Register, even a reporter from The National Enquirer has been snooping around and “looking for tips” about the private life of the single mother of one.
Kristen Stewart is a Wanted woman!
Sources tell E! News that the studio and director behind the sequel to Wanted have expressed interest in snagging K.Stew to follow in Angelina Jolie's footsteps as the female lead, starring alongside James McAvoy.
While details are still pretty scarce, Stewart's character would be a young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity.
So is Stewart in, and Angie out?

Start pricing up HTC's Desire or Incredible, Nexus One owners, as Google has put down its hammer and announced "we are no longer investigating further engineering improvements." You're stuck with those bugs for good.
Oh sure, they issued a patch, which didn't really do much, but Google feels enough is enough and is cutting the air supply off—according to Ry Guy, a Google employee who posted on their support forums. The full message, below:

Feelings about the leaked HP Slate notwithstanding, the company's already considering its tablet PC successors -- and if The New York Times' sources are right, they may be of Android and Linux varieties. Where the forthcoming HP Slate is, erm, slated to run Windows 7, The Grey Lady reported last week that a six-inch Android tablet was also on the way. Now, a prominent magazine editor reportedly tells the paper a Linux version may also be in development. For its part, HP isn't denying the claims. "I'm certain that we will be announcing new Slates in the future as they are a very interesting area for us," said media relations director Marlene Somsak, whose only added caveat was that HP isn't currently announcing an Android slate.

Hero owners, look away now. Google's Froyo appears to be almost ready to exit the freezer and enter handsets on an official basis. Since April 7, Android and Me have noticed visits from devices identifying themselves as having Android version 2.2 on board, while German site MobiFlip.de has come across pictures of a T-Mobile myTouch 3G (aka HTC Magic) that is supposedly running the latest software. The images are certainly easy to spoof (including a wonky looking .2), but their timing and our eternal optimism invite some attention. They indicate a new option for automatically pulling down app updates from the ether, which would be kinda neat, while Android and Me have also compiled a list of other rumored new features for Android 2.2 and confirmed with "sources familiar with the matter" that the new OS is indeed being tested right now. Their tip is to gaze expectantly toward the Google I/O conference starting on May 19 when we're sure to learn at least a little bit more. Considering Android 2.0 got a full features demo at that meetup last year, chances are good that Froyo will be on show in just under a month's time.
