Is this the Apple Tablet?

Okay, we obviously can't confirm this, but we just got two very interesting images of what certainly looks like a prototype Apple tablet, or what could be the tablet bolted down to a table. It's big -- really big -- and it's running what clearly looks like an iPhone app, although we've never seen an iPhone app with that interface or at that resolution before. We also see a WiFi icon and a cell service indicator, although tragically there's no carrier listed. As far as fakes go, this is as convincing as it gets, so either this is the real deal or someone deserves a hearty congratulations.

On a totally separate note, we also received a tip claiming to have some specs -- we can't verify any of this either, but we're told that the device will have a 10-inch screen and look like a larger iPhone with a MacBook-like aluminum back, and that pricing will run $800 on contract with Verizon and $1000 without when it arrives in March. We're also told that the official name remains a secret and that Apple employees are still calling it by the codename of "K48" -- a name we last heard in May from the same source that pegged the iPhone 3GS exactly. This source also tells us that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon as well and that we'll see iLife '10 tomorrow, but there won't be any MacBook updates. A relatively safe set of predictions -- which is why we sort of believe them.

Simon Cowell infuriates new American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres by keeping her waiting on first day of auditions

Ellen DeGeneres has only been a judge on American Idol for two weeks, but it appears her new role isn't going as quite smoothly as she hoped.

The comedienne was reportedly left furious after head judge Simon Cowell turned up to record the show an hour and a half late.

DeGeneres, 52, has to split her time between her popular morning chat show and her new judging duties, so had specially arranged for own programme to finish early to accommodate Idol.

Originally anxious about her first day at her new job, DeGeneres' nerves soon turned to anger when Cowell, 50, failed to arrive on time.

When he finally arrived 90 minutes later, DeGeneres expressed her disappointment.

The filming marked the first day of 'Hollywood Week', which sees the original contestants who passed the open auditions, whittled down to a smaller group ahead of the live shows.

Gorgeous and rich..but life's still the Pitts & More

FIVE and a half years ago I asked ANGELINA JOLIE if she'd slept with BRAD PITT.

I was bored and worried - it was at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival.

It doesn't sound too bold a question now, but at the time he was still with JENNIFER ANISTON and rumours were just beginning to surface he'd got rather close to Jolie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith.

"Hello Angelina, Martel Maxwell from The Sun. Word has it you got close to Brad Pitt when the cameras stopped filming on your last film?"

Cue Mafia-style silent throat-slitting action from the big-wig director to a heavy, signalling "get her out of here". Thank God for WILL SMITH, who was on stage with Angelina to promote the animated film Shark Tale.

"Come on Ange," he said, "The girl from The Sun wants to know . . . did you shag Brad Pitt?"

As the crowd was now laughing, she knew she had to answer. "Shag? No I didn't shag Brad Pitt."

And with that, I knew two things were true.

First, she most probably had slept with Pitt.

Britney Spears, Jason Trawick Go For a Stroll

Britney Spears and boyfriend Jason Trawick are the subject of almost as many negative rumors as Brangelina. She's smothering him. He's cheating on her. Etc.

We'll they won't winning any celebrity fashion awards based on their outfits in the photo below, but the sexy pair seems to be together and as content as ever.

Dressed down for a low-key trip to a local park, new brunette Britney carried youngest son, Jayden James, while Jason looked after her eldest, Sean Preston.

Nice to see that something in our girl's life brings her a level of stability and calm amid all the touring, court dates, hounding by paparazzi and feuds with dad.

Here's Britney and Jason enjoying some quality time with her family ...

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick are the frequent subject of breakup rumors, but all looks to be well for now.

Apple Tablet confirmed for Wednesday by McGraw-Hill CEO, with iPhone-styled OS & More

It seems like hugely anticipated product announcements are always nailed down by a slip of tongue from an unassuming third party – this time, the Apple tablet by McGraw Hill’s CEO Harold McGraw III.

In an interview with CNBC, the anchor lets fly a question at McGraw whether the publishing company would make its textbooks available on the Apple tablet. Instead of averted the question like any other guy would, the chap starts belting out information as though if the tablet’s coming was a no-brainer.

“Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific.”

So guys, the tablet seems to be quite real now. And what’s that? OS, iPhone style? Apple’s tight-lippedness can’t compete with old-school publishing men. Thanks McGraw-Hill!

Sprint’s HTC Supersonic WiMAX Android phone in clear photos

Remember the HTC A9292, rumored to hit Sprint as one of its first WiMAX phones? The A9292 might be the HTC Supersonic, recently appeared in two images – a live photo and a rendering.

Reportedly, the HTC Supersonic is an Android 2.1 smartphone that has features similar to the ones of the Windows Mobile-based HTC HD2: 4.3 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB of internal memory (like T-Mobile’s HD2), and a 5MP autofocus camera.

A notable difference (besides the different OS) is that the Supersonic has an OLED display, instead of a TFT one.

HTC Bravo shows its Android UI in new hands-on photo

The same day when images of Sprint’s HTC Supersonic popped up on the Web, a new photo of the HTC Bravo has appeared, too – a hands-on photo, to be precise.

As previously reported, the HTC Bravo kind of resembles the Google Nexus One, although it has more hardware buttons and the trackball has been replaced with an optical trackpad.

Apparently, the features of HTC Bravo include a 3.7 inch AMOLED WVGA multi-touch display, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, 512MB of RAM, 5MP camera with HD video recording, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1GHz processor, and Android 2.1.

Andy & Da S Romance on Marie Claire

Both Andy Lau and Barbie Hsu are the mass dream lover, they collaborate in a new film Future X-cops and appeared on the cover for February’s Marie Claire magazine, of course other than taking photographs, they also accepted interviews about love. With different backgrounds, full of experiences in love, with regards to love, what are their experience?

Therefore I did not continue asking, if I anger a person and resulting him to say some unhappy words. Then, on the Internet everything is being revealed, the most exciting part is the person reply: “Don’t ask me again.” Everybody made different choice with regards to love, what others are saying will be decided between the two of them. After months of holiday, Andy will make a fresh start in the new year, walking into his 29th year in showbiz. To him, the road ahead is still unknown. He said: “In my life, there is no festive day or view on festive. Never felt that there is any special about Valentine Day. With regards to birthday, I only celebrate my birthday after I entered showbiz, before entering showbiz I can’t remember how I celebrate each birthday.”

“Dancing Inmates” Perform Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”

The “Dancing Inmates” from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center are paying homage to the King of Pop again. The inmates at the maximum security prison in the Philippines rose to fame after they choreographed their own rendition of Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” video in 2007. The video became a viral smash, and the prisoners have gone on to perform several other tributes to MJ, like this one:

The guys were recently treated to a visit by Michael Jackson’s long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid, where they learned the steps that would have featured on Michael’s 2009 comeback tour, “This Is It.” The new video — which debuted on Friday — is already approaching 1 million views on YouTube.

"Avatar" becomes highest-grossing movie

"Avatar" has surpassed "Titanic" as the highest-grossing movie worldwide, giving director James Cameron a remarkable double a week before his sci-fi spectacular is expected to rack up a slew of Oscar nominations.

Gregg Brilliant, a spokesman for the News Corp (NWSA.O)-owned studio 20th Century Fox, said on Tuesday the worldwide box office total for "Avatar" stands at $1.859 billion, beating the $1.843 billion racked up by Cameron's romantic drama "Titanic" in 1997-1998.

"Avatar" broke the record in a little over six weeks.

The film has enjoyed an unbroken reign in most countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Britain and Australia.

The data are not adjusted for inflation.

Ticket sales got an additional boost from premium prices for 3-D screenings. Fox said 72 percent of worldwide sales come from 3-D engagements.

Will Sex Addiction Rehab Help Tiger Woods?

Is Tiger Woods really a sex addict, or is he just using his stint in rehab as part of a carefully-managed plan to rehab his career? Is sex addiction even real?

Come on, you know you're thinking it too. Tiger was packaged as a upstanding family man for years, why should we assume anything he does is genuine?

You certainly can't give him the benefit of the doubt. On the flip side, if Tiger truly wants to stay married, seeking some kind of treatment is the way to go.

Is Tiger an actual sex addict? We can't say.

If sex addiction rehab in Mississippi is just a vehicle for regaining his wife's trust, though, then so be it. As for whether sex addiction is a real thing, it is.

Jane Lynch of 'Glee' to Marry Girlfriend in May

Jane Lynch let slip following the Golden Globes last week that she and her partner, Dr. Lara Embry, are tying the knot. The 'Glee' star, who won a Screen Actors Guild award over the weekend, told the New York Times that she and her girlfriend are planning a May wedding.

The news was slipped ever-so gently into the Times' Carpetbagger blog: "Jane Lynch, who saw her Fox show 'Glee' win a Golden Globe and who told us she was marrying her partner, Lara, in May, summed up the night's victories for Fox: 'It's good to be on the winning team.'"

The Tablet Could Spur A Media Revolution, But It Will Be Out Of Apple’s Hands

Here we are, on the eve of the Tablet’s unveiling, with only hours to go before we find out just how ambitious Apple’s latest creation is. Countless articles have been written about how the forthcoming Tablet could be the savior of old media. Supposedly, people will finally start paying for this content because it will be readily available at their fingertips. But the promise of the tablet does not lie in immediate access to content; the Internet can already do that, as can the Kindle, to some extent. The true revolution lies in the new medium the tablet will give us. Three months ago Dan Lyons, writing as Fake Steve Jobs, totally nailed it:

New technology spawns new ways to tell stories. That’s the really exciting thing here. Not the tablet itself, but what it means for news, for entertainment, for literature. Gasp. Geddit? Is the f***ing light going off yet? This is what Anton Chekhov meant when he said that the medium is the message. This is why the Tablet is so profound.

There is no point in moving to digital readers if we’re just going to do what we did on paper. That’s why Kindle is such a piece of shit. All they did was pave the cowpath. And that’s why we’ve held back on our Tablet — not because the technology wasn’t ready, but because the content guys are such f***tards that they still can’t create anything that makes it worth putting the Tablet into the world.

Bill Gates busts a move at Sundance

GuestofaGuest found some pix of Bill Gates rocking out at Robert Redford’s party at Sundance. Curious as to what he was dancing to, we ran “ENHANCE” in Windows 7 and were able to pull the audio by sensing the vibrations in each person’s hair as well as a reflection of someone’s Zune in the blond woman’s right eye.

Then, by using Windows Movie Maker we grabbed all of the images and interpolated them into one video and then pulled the audio from the metadata. The result? Bill Gates busting a move.

Twitter now has 75M users; most asleep at the mouse

Though Twitter is still getting newbie users, many are inactive

The number of Twitter users has climbed to a lofty 75 million, but the growth rate of new users is slowing and a lot of current Twitterers are inactive, according to a study released today.

The rate of new user growth peaked last July at about 7.8 million a month. That number has dropped to about 6.2 million new users a month now, according to a study from RJMetrics Inc., which develops online metric analysis software. The past six months, the study also noted, have seen a steady falloff in the number of new accounts.

"When you look at new account registrations, no one can deny that Twitter is still growing like a rocket ship. That's good," wrote Robert J. Moore, CEO and founder of RJMetrics. "However, upon closer inspection, the rate of new user sign-ups has dropped meaningfully from its peak and many new users never do anything with their accounts. That's bad. Furthermore, the percentage of accounts sending out tweets has steadily declined over the past six months. That's worse."

Ninomiya Mizukawa Together at Nabe Restaurant

The latest Shuukan Josei reports that Arashi member Ninomiya Kazunari and Nodame Cantabile actress Mizukawa Asami went out for a meal together at a nabe restaurant in Shibuya. While Ninomiya is rumoured to be dating Nagasawa Masami, many speculate it was done behind her back, or that he was seeing both of them at the same time. However, it's said that Ninomiya and Mizukawa became good friends after collaborating together in Abunai Hokago back in 1999. Mizukawa also collaborated with Nagasawa in the 2008 drama Last Friends. So perhaps it was entirely a friendly outing.

Katy Perry just wants to have fun (good job she's engaged to comedian Russell Brand then)

She's a star of the noughties, but Katy Perry acknowledged one of her pop predecessors on a trip to the gym today.

The 24-year-old singer made her intentions clear with a plain white t-shirt featuring the title of one of 80s star Cyndi Lauper's biggest hits Girls Just Wanna Have Fun on a trip to the gym in LA.

While some may question her relationship with Russell Brand, there's no doubting that the outrageous comedian ticks the boxes when it comes to keeping his fiancee entertained.

It's the latest in a series of T-shirts bearing cryptic slogans that the singer has worn since she started her relationship with Brand, 35.

Paula Abdul ABC $1 Million Development Deal For Dancing with the Stars

All of a sudden, crazy is in crazy demand.

Paula Abdul is reportedly fielding a major offer from ABC. It comes with many zeroes attached to it, but one major catch:

TMZ reports the network has told Abdul it will give her a $1 million development deal... as long as she appears on this season of Dancing with the Stars.

For whatever reason, ABC wants Paula so badly it would still allow her to judge The X Factor with Simon Cowell on Fox, as those two met a week ago to discuss pairing up again on that upcoming show.

But, again, this deal is contingent on Abdul taking part on the new edition of Dancing with the Stars, which kicks off in March. It's not the first time she's been considered for the competition.

Our reaction to both parts of this rumor? First, does The X Factor really wish to replicate two judges from American Idol? Secondly, how can Abdul possibly be allowed to compete on Dancing with the Stars?!?

Adam Lambert to Critique Fashion at the Grammy Awards

He's said to be considering a guest-starring role on a TV show, but Adam Lambert will soon be seen in a different capacity on the small screen:

He'll serve as a fashion correspondent for Entertainment Tonight at this year's Grammy Awards. The show airs this Sunday night.

What kind of judge will the former American Idol star make?

“I’ll be ok,” he says. “I love clothes, I love fashion. I pay attention to that stuff. I’m a big fan of most of the people that will be there... I won’t be mean. though. I’m not mean.”

But does he have stylish taste? Critique Adam yourself in his new spread for VMAN magazine.

Controversy over British director Winterbottom's violent new movie The Killer Inside Me

British director Michael Winterbottom is at the centre of controversy over violence against women in a film starring Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba.

The movie, The Killer Inside Me, is based on a Jim Thompson novel about a baby-faced deputy sheriff of a small Texas town (played by a brilliant Casey Affleck) who has some sexual-psychological issues.

In the picture's most graphic scene, Affleck dons a pair of black leather gloves and repeatedly punches Alba's character in the face.

Winterbottom keeps his cameras running as Affleck lands blow after blow on Alba's face.

Later on someone comments that her face resembled a stew.

Apple iTablet: the obvious name? & More Photos Of Apple iPad Leaked ?

With all the recent talk about the iSlate, iPad, iSlab, whatever... doesn't it seem like the obvious candidate for the name of Apple's rumored tablet computer is being completely overlooked? Like Apple's first phone that later came to be called the iPhone, isn't the most obvious name for an Apple tablet the iTablet? To support the theory we decided to share the above image that we received from a trusted source and believe to be authentic. It's a picture taken of an Apple Store employee's corporate email after receiving information about the time and place of Wednesday's Apple event. While the content of the email wasn't very enlightening, note the word used in the filename of the second attachment: "itablet." Now this doesn't prove a thing. The administrative assistant who sent the mass email could have been using "itablet' much in the same way that we've been using the term for years as a generic placeholder for the rumored device. Then again, maybe we should heed the wisdom of Occam's Razor when speculating about Apple's naming preference for a 10-inch tablet computer?

P.S. Amtek currently holds the US trademark (and itablet.com domain) for "iTablet" and continues to sell products under that name as it has for years. Not that a silly thing like trademark ownership could stop Apple from announcing its iPhone at a time when Cisco owned the rights.

Google blames T-Mobile for Nexus One 3G woes ; Nexus One Coming Soon Walmart

Google’s first direct to the customer Android phone, the Nexus One, has had its image tarnished a bit with many users reporting significant 3G woes when using the handset. Both Google and T-Mobile have been investigating the issues.

Google has completed its research into the issue and is laying the blame at the feet of the weak 3G network ran by T-Mobile. A bug was also found in the software of the handset during the investigation and a fix is incoming to address the issue.

Google Voice comes to iPhone and webOS, as a web app

Remember the dustup last summer over Apple’s rejection of the Google Voice app for the iPhone? Everyone was pointing fingers and even the FCC got involved. Michael was so upset that he quit the iPhone rather than give up his Google Voice. Well, now he can come back because Google Voice is finally on the iPhone via its browser, and Apple can’t really do anything about it..

Google Voice will become available today for both the iPhone and Palm Pre/Pixi via a new mobile Website which will go live later today at http://m.google.com/voice. The new Google Voice mobile site shows your inbox with transcribed calls, which you can play from the browser. You can also send SMS messages or dial from the browser. The application ends up making a local call through your cell phone to Google Voice, which then routes your call through its own lines. When someone gets the call, they see your Google Voice number instead of your AT&T number. And when you get a voicemail, a notification even pops up on your iPhone with the transcribed message (through SMS).

Hints of Zune phone found in software update

The rumor of a Zune phone just won’t die. The fight between Apple and Microsoft typically leads to similar products being offered from both companies. It’s been surprising that with the roaring success of the iPhone Microsoft has not yet offered its own phone.

Microsoft may be ready to unveil its own phone based on the Zune with hints that the device may be in the works turning up in the latest software update for the Zune PMP. The new version of the software is 4.2.202.0. The drivers are leading some publications to say the Zune Phone is basically confirmed.

Jacky Cheung to Release Cantonese Album "Private Corner"

It’s been 5 years since Jacky Cheung released a Cantonese album; his new album <<Private Corner>> will be released worldwide next Friday (January 29th). This album has been in preparations for a long time – all because Jacky takes the production of his album very seriously. Originally, a portion of the songs were already recorded, however after Jacky listened to them again, he decided to give up on 6 songs and instead choose a few new songs to re-record, resulting in additional time and costs. In post-production, the album was first sent to the U.S. for sound-mixing, then sent to Germany for disc printing, so that his fans – who have waited a long time for this album – can enjoy the highest quality recording.

Jacky described his creative album from 5 years ago as his most personal album to date; however this time around, he took the musical genre that he enjoyed listening to the most [jazz] and converged it into a record – presenting his “private corner” so that all his fans can experience his “private world.”

The results come just months after Oprah’s announcement that she will pull the plug on her long-running daytime talk show in Sept. 2011.

Brangelina Split ‘Down to Family Feuding’

BRANGELINA are set to split because their families hate each other — insiders say.

Sources close to both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have told Ian Halperin, author of the recent bestseller Brangelina: The Untold Story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, that matters have become a “tragic tale of indecision, jealousy and hatred between the Jolie and Pitt clans.”

“I’m amazed we haven’t picked up shotguns yet and squared off,” said a Pitt insider.

“We just don’t get along. There’s never been any family gatherings or celebrations here. I have yet to see family members on either side have a civil conversation. It’s always arguing and backstabbing.”

Recent reports claim Brad’s brother, Doug, urged the star to dump Angelina.

HP Slate: Coming 2010, Way Less Than $1500, Plain Old Win 7

HP just popped a video of CTO Phil McKinney demonstrating the "slate" we showed you first at CES 2010. McKinney affirms that this is not just some will-o-the-wisp, but in doing so, might've taken away some of its allure.

The highlight of Steve Ballmer's slate introduction was the different modes—ebook reader, movie player—you can quickly jump to. But then and now, the story is really Windows, and those modes are just apps, running with the Start menu and all the familiar Windows accoutrements in full view. Being powered by Windows 7 is great, but I am not sure how I feel about this approach. What we see here is a Windows 7 desktop running a browser and a NYT app (aka another browser). I still think it's cute, but I think everyone would agree that the hardware is not the story—smoother software is needed to make the tablet lifestyle palatable.

What Would Life Be Like Without Windows?

It's the thought experiment we all like to engage in. What would life be like without Microsoft Windows? To listen to the free open source software crowd, the demise of Windows -- and by extension, Microsoft's hegemony over the PC universe -- would signal a kind of rebirth for information technology. Software would finally be free of the corporate shackles that have stifled innovation and dragged down the best and brightest among us.

Such thinking is naïve, at best. Rather than freeing IT, the demise of Microsoft would plunge the industry into an apocalyptic tailspin of biblical proportions -- no visions of hippie utopia here. The withdrawal of the Redmond giant's steady hand would cause today's computing landscape to tear itself apart at the seams, with application and device compatibility and interoperability devolving into the kind of Wild West chaos unseen since the days of the DOS big three: Lotus, WordPerfect, and Ashton-Tate.

And don't believe that the Web will somehow mitigate the impact of Windows' demise. Although Google talks a good story about supplanting traditional compute models with a Web-centric paradigm, the truth is that the folks from Mountain View are no less sinister when it comes to grandiose plans for world domination. If anything, the rise of Google -- or any dominant cloud-computing player -- should be perceived as a potential threat to IT independence. As the saying goes, never put all your IT eggs into a single vendor's basket.
