It looks like the rollout of iOS 4 isn’t going as smoothly as Apple would like. Even though the majority of comments we’ve come across have been positive, we’ve been getting a steady stream of bug complaints from readers ranging from extremely trivial to very serious. Many of the bugs remedied easily enough, but some of them seem to have no workaround. Here are the most pervasive complaints:
- Photos synced with iPhoto turn are extremely blurry
- Gmail ActiveSync is no longer functioning (no syncing of email, calendars and contacts) Update from BG: This probably has nothing to do with iOS 4.0 and more to do with Google being overwhelmed.
- Update deletes all contacts, and backups will not restore them
- MMS no longer works
- Push notifications not functioning
- Auto-lock is set at one minute and the option to change this is greyed out
- Update fails and device reboots endlessly
Have you experienced any of these bugs? If so, then we’d love to hear from you. And while you’re at if, if you know any fixes, don’t be shy to help out your fellow man.

While iOS 4 is delivering on every promise for the iPhone 3GS users out there, as we were all told up front, the iPhone 3G would be missing some of those touted new features. Granted, we knew such disparities would exist but were never given the finer details. Now that the final build is percolating through the internet, we decided to take a look at what features are and aren't working on the earlier year's model.
What's there
- Folders
- Threaded mail
- iTunes playlist creation / editing
- 5x digital zoom: just tap on the display near the capture button, but be warned, it doesn't paint a pretty picture
- iBooks: we were having issues with the earlier build, but it seems to be running fine after today's official download -- PDFs work, too.
- Photos: you can now sort by albums, events, faces, and places
- Game Center: the icon is present, but as of this writing we're unable to connect to the servers. (Update: a number of readers saying it didn't come with today's download. We nabbed ours as a gold build, which might explain the discrepancy despite still being considered "up to date" by iTunes.)
- Spell check has been updated
- Spotlight search: you can search the web and Wikipedia from the home screen search bar. That said, not all our queries -- "Engadget," for example -- weren't offering the option. [Thanks, jkane08]
It took several days for the iOS 4 Gold Master to be jailbroken, but it took mere hours for the official, final release of the mobile operation system to be freed on the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.
The redsn0w beta jailbreak/hacktivation tool is now available through the Dev Team website. If you're hesitant about proceeding with a jailbreak, be sure to take a look at our guide about the procedures.

True Blood is only two episodes in to its third season, but it’ll be back for a fourth.
On Monday, HBO renewed the show based on Charlaine Harris best-selling novels. The series stars Anna Paquin as mind-reading waitress Sookie Stackhouse, her fiance Stephen Moyer as the 173-year-old Southern vampire Bill Compton, and Alexander Skarsgard as Sheriff Eric Northman.
True Blood Season 4 will kick off with 12 new episodes premiering in the Summer of 2011.

Listen Microsoft, we know you've been wanting to stay absolutely mum on Kinect's price since its official E3 unveiling, even as GameStop and Walmart say $149.99. Included is the Kinect sensor itself, power supply cable, manual, and WiFi extension cable (huh?), and it shows up in our virtual shopping cart just fine. So, now that your own official online store is giving that price tag on a pre-order page, don't ya think this guy deserves something akin to a legitimate press release for its MSRP?

YG Entertainment is in full ignition to take the summer of 2010 by storm. Soon after Big Bang’s TOP’s highly anticipated solo single Turn It Up was released, two more track names (Track 5 and 6) from Taeyang’s SOLAR album have been revealed!
As a recap, tracks 1 through 4 were already unveiled. Now, two more songs have been revealed, including one song featuring YGE’s talent Teddy.
By now you know that (one of) AMOLED's Achilles' heel is readability in direct sunlight. But Samsung's been working hard to fix that with its new Super AMOLED technology. Techblog took the display to task by pitting the Samsung Galaxy S (4-inch, 480 x 800 pixel Super AMOLED) against the HTC Desire (3.7-inch 480 x 800 pixel AMOLED) and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 (4-inch, 480 x 854 pixel TFT LCD). It's clear from the video embedded after the break that the LCD still has the edge in the harsh Greek sun, but the Super AMOLED certainly makes a much stronger showing than its AMOLED sib. In fact, differences in visibility between the LCD and Super AMOLED are often indistinguishable, like the picture above. That'll be good news for us just as soon as Samsung can start meeting demand... regardless of what Stevie J has to say. Check the video after the break and be sure to click the source for some more side-by-side pics, including a few taken indoors where that Super AMOLED display really shines.

Toshiba Libretto W100

Oh yes, Toshiba's dualscreen laptop of sorts is real, and it's exactly what you've inevitably been staring at right up there. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the company's laptop business, Tosh gave its classic Libretto ultraportable brand some mouth-to-mouth with the W100. Yeah, we couldn't believe it ourselves when we saw it, but the device certainly is legit -- it has two 7-inch, 1024 x 600-resolution touchscreens, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD and Windows 7 Home Premium. We know -- it's all pretty zany, and though Toshiba is calling it a "concept PC," it's actually planning to bring it to market for $1,099 within the next few months on a limited basis. Thought we were done with the info? Surely not, we've got you covered with shots below and some in-depth hands-on impressions after the break.

Leona Lewis’ hectic work schedule has ended the singer’s relationship with boyfriend of more than a decade, Lou Al-Chamaa.
The “Bleeding Love” crooner and Lou met when they were just 10 but have decided to call time on their long-running union after Leona’s busy work schedule stopped them from being able to spend any quality time together. Leona was devastated when Lou failed to show up for her performance at London’s O2 Arena last Wednesday night.
“Things have been under pressure for ages between them and they’ve finally realized that things are not going to be able to progress. Leona’s schedule means she’s in the States a lot when Lou’s in London and then when he goes out she’s over here. Then there’s the fact she’s been totally immersed in preparing for her tour. They’ve barely spend any time together whatsoever,” a friend close to the songbird spilled to British gossip rag Sunday Mirror.

The Brother-Sharp phenomenon continues with Daniel Wu as the latest star to show his “Sharp” side. The Super HOT but married actor adapted Brother-Sharp’s street-style for his new movie Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (單身男女, which translates to Single Man and Woman).
While filming at a park in Hong Kong, Daniel Wu was spotted wearing a wig and mustache, along with some worn-out clothing. He showed a striking resemblance to the one and only Brother Sharp at first glance. But the actor not only looked very "Sharp", his moves turned out to be even sharper -- In one particular scene, his character was required to climb on top of a bridge, to which he completed entirely by himself.
