Samsung Galaxy Player 50

Remember how Samsung downsized the Wave to make the Wave 723 and killed off the pricey, fancy Super AMOLED display in the process? Yeah, well, the same rule applies to the Android-powered Galaxy line -- so if you were hoping to see some mind-blowing contrast ratios on Sammy's new PMP... well, you can just keep on hoping (and besides, even the mighty Tab has gone the TFT route for now). The Galaxy Player 50 is pretty cute in the flesh, featuring a 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD with multitouch capability, Android 2.1, and your choice of 8GB or 16GB worth of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 32GB. It's also packing a 2 megapixel cam on back and support for 802.11n -- and heck, like the Philips GoGear Connect it's even got a mic, basically putting it just one spec sheet line item shy of being an actual smartphone.

That sound you hear? That's the sound of an alibi unraveling.
Cast your minds back to, um, five whole days ago, when Paris Hilton was busted for cocaine possession. Her excuse? Those weren't her drugs (she thought it was gum!), that wasn't her purse (too cheap!) and the dog ate her homework.
Now try if you can to cast your mind back to a month and a half ago, when Paris posted a twitpic of a Chanel purse she had just purchased—a purse which certainly looks identical to the handbag she was apparently carrying at the time of her arrest.
So what does it all mean?
That things aren't exactly coming up roses for the heiress.
While the Clark County District Attorney's office told E! News that the type of purse she was carrying that night was not listed in any report, there's really no denying the photos.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

An increasing number of Euroland news outlets are reporting an eye-watering set of prices for Samsung's Galaxy Tab. Although still unofficial and therefore not yet to be trusted, the values we're hearing are €699 ($890) in France and €799 ($1,020) in Germany. Those presumably represent the cost of the 16GB and 32GB Tab, respectively, and align perfectly with Apple's iPad WiFi + 3G pricing -- aside from the fact the iPads have double the storage at each price point. Oops! That does make us wary to believe these numbers just yet, but if you want a laugh, why not check out UK importer Expansys today, which is offering a cracking deal for the 16GB Galaxy Tab at £680 ($1,050). And with only a 39-day wait!

Skype's latest Windows-only 5.0 beta 2 doubles their five-way video calling to ten. TEN. How does ten-way video calling look? Like this. If you add two. We could only get eight, and four of them was me.
While the eight-way video call was going, everything looked and sounded fine. I had to mute all four of my mics or else it would have been an insane amount of feedback, so I couldn't talk. But, as expected of a beta, many of us started crashing, and crashing in unison. People stared dropping in and out, and generally being less stable than a drunk monkey on a unicycle. There were times when three of my computers crashed at the same time.
In any case, ten-way video calling! This is the way we're holding meetings now.

'House' cuddle puddle? See for yourself in this First Look!
Yup, you have to see it to believe it. Fox’s newly unveiled promo art for House’s fall comeback features Dr. Crankypants surrounded by not only at-long-last lover Cuddy but also all of his colleagues… in bed, no less! Does this suggest the emergence of a kinder, gentler anti-hero? Is he dreaming? Are we? Have a look and decide for yourself!

Back in the early 90's whilst playing our Atari Lynx -- friendless and alone, of course -- we couldn't have imagined that a second-rate spinoff of the popular Gauntlet franchise would unlock the secrets behind the birth of Google's Android OS. But, lo and behold, what has one of our faithful tipsters found down here, amongst the ruins of Gauntlet: The Third Encounter? That's right, nearly irrefutable proof that the Android team (or at least its graphic designers) have plumbed the depths of Epyx's not-quite-masterpiece for the iconic droid logo we've come to know and love. Sure, the top-down scroller provided all kinds of new character classes like the "Nerd," "Punkrocker," and "Pirate," but only one of these fresh faces would provide the blueprint for Android's public face. It's hard to argue that there isn't some level of appropriation here, given the multiple similarities between the two pieces of art, right down to the antennae, dotted eyes, general size and shape, and even the strip which cuts across the midsection of the bot. Oh yeah, and the character is named Android. We personally would like to hear what Google has to say for themselves in regards to this blatant theft of intellectual property, and as for the Epyx artists who slaved over a hot Amiga to bring this image to life -- the taste of sweet justice is yours.

Toshiba Folio 100

If Samsung's Galaxy Tab reads like a how-to for making a decent Android tablet, Toshiba's Folio 100 seems to serve an opposite purpose (starting with that unfortunate name), which is disappointing for a company like Toshiba. The tablet just got official here at IFA, after being spotted on the show floor earlier today, but there's nothing in the press release to change our initial impressions of the device. There's a 1024 x 600 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, Tegra 2 under the hood, 16GB of built-in storage, SD card expansion, HDMI out, 802.11n WiFi, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, and Android 2.2 with Flash 10.1 running on top of it all. Toshiba claims 7 hours of battery of "regular" use (65% web browsing, 10% video playback, 25% standby), and everything is packed into a 0.55-inch thick form factor that weighs 1.7 pounds. Software-wise Toshiba has baked in Opera, Toshiba Media Player, FBReader, Fring (for video calls), Documents To Go, and Evernote, with Toshiba offering its own app marketplace and developer platform for tablet-specific apps. Unfortunately, the tablet ends up in person as less than the sum of its parts, and while Toshiba might be able to redeem itself slightly with perhaps a surprisingly low pricepoint, we don't imagine ourselves yearning for this device to escape the bonds of its initial Europe, Middle East, and Africa launch markets. Toshiba just said that the suggested retail price will be €399.
It looks like our friends over at Samsung have officially outed their much hyped Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet device. The Galaxy Tab will pack a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps / HSDPA 7.2 Mbps radio (900, 1900, 2100 MHz), quad-band GSM, 7-inch WSVGA screen with multitouch, Android 2.2, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, DLNA, Flash 10.1, 4,000 mAh battery, 3 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, full HD video playback at 1080p, microSD card slot with support for up to a 32 GB card, and the unit will weigh 380 grams (13.4 ounces). Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is quite a spec sheet (although the 3 megapixel camera seems a bit sheepish compared to the rest of the device). The closing line of the press release states that, “The Samsung GALAXY Tab will be launched in Europe in mid September, and in other markets including Korea, the US and Asia in coming months;” no word yet on pricing. Let us know your thoughts on the official Galaxy Tab in the comments.
