Karate Kid Chops The A-Team

Jaden Smith has well learned from the master. His father.

Showing the box-office moves of Will Smith, the 11-year-old kicked a disappointing summer back into gear with a fantastic $56 million Friday-Sunday debut for The Karate Kid.

As for The A-Team, the weekend's other major release—and 1980s revival… Well, it could've used some Smith family magic.

The $100 million-ish adventure looked B-list with an underwhelming $26 million debut.

When teen sensation Justin Bieber joked that Kim Kardashian was his girlfriend she was besieged with messages from his angry fans.

So for her sake let's hope they don't see these pictures.

Reality TV star Kim and Justin cavorted in the ocean yesterday, clowning around together as they enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of their island holiday.

And while 29-year-old Kim may seem too old for Justin, 16, fans of the teenage pop sensation needn't worry - the two are simply working together.

Kim and Justin are both staying at The Cove Resort at the luxurious Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Scarlett Johansson & Denzel Washington Named Broadway's Best

During a ceremony that frequently tipped its hat to the past, the first Tony winner of Sunday night, a breathless and beautiful Scarlett Johansson, was honored for her featured role in the revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge – which first played on Broadway in 1955.

Still, as her excitement demonstrated, being recognized for stage work was an entirely new sensation for the New York-born screen actress. "Being welcomed into this community has been a dream come true for me," Johansson, 25, said on the great stage of Radio City Music Hall, where the 64th annual Tony Awards, honoring Broadway's best, were broadcast live on CBS. "Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be on Broadway, and here I am."

She also expressed her gratitude to "the Canadian I live with," husband Ryan Reynolds. "Thank you for being a theater widower for me," she said as he applauded from the audience of the 6,000-seat hall.

HTC EVO suffering from glass separation issues? ; Touchstone hack adds wireless charging

Potential bad news for EVO owners: we're seeing plenty of reports from folks having issues with the lower portions of their screens. Conspiracy theories say that the adhesive holding the glass is failing, causing the screen to peel up a bit and embark on a very slow journey to capacitive independence. This separation is causing excessive light leakage from below, a problem that we noted in our review but apparently gets continually worse as users spend more time massaging their screens -- even those not being as hard on theirs as this guy was. No official response from HTC yet and we're not sure just what a fix could be, but we have seen people do some wonderful things with duct tape.

Xbox 360 Slim outed by Italian ad?

Of the rumored devices we've been looking forward to getting official at E3 this year, two of the biggest come from Microsoft -- both of which, sadly, seem to have escaped from their bag a little early. First is Kinect, the re-naming of "Project Natal," and now it's looking like the rumored Xbox 360 Slim has been leaked early as well. An Italian site, Console Tribe, ran an ad (embedded after the break) showing the above rather more angular looking console that's definitely an Xbox 360, but definitely not a current model. It mentions that this model is compatible with the Kinect and also invites you to "live today." We're thinking this model was not supposed to go live until tomorrow, but seizing an extra day doesn't sound so bad for us.

Jolin Tsai makes surprise appearance at Jay Chou's concert

Oh my…..here’s a shocker…

Jay Chou continued to wow fans on the 3rd night of his concert at the Taipei Arena. Not only did he impress the audience with yet another performance, but more surprisingly, his rumored ex-girl friend Jolin Tsai was special guest of the night!

The Era 2010 World Tour marks the 4th tour in Jay Chou's 10-year career. Its state-of-the-art visual effects and production is said to cost 100 million (NTD). However, the concert was criticized by fans for being too short and featuring too many singers from his company. Jay Chou was quick to react as he added 4 songs on the second night. JVR Music’s Lara, The Drifters, Cindy Yen and Gary Yang all took the stage. Unfortunately, The Drifters was noticeably the show’s washroom break when they performed.

Cecilia Cheung Appears, Lucas: Don't Say My Mom is Fat

Stephen Chow's animated "CJ7" held a press event yesterday in Shanghai international film festival. After showing up on the red carpet for the film festival's opening ceremony, this time Cecilia Cheung appeared again as the film's theme song performer. Her first son Lucas also made his appearance to the event, taking the limelight greatly.

It's already sensational for Cecilia to show up at the press event, but the most surprising thing is that during the event, suddenly a kid ran onto the stage---it was actually Lucas. Lucas was very lively on the stage, sometimes hugging his mom, sometimes crawl on the sofa, and accidentally fell, but Cecilia was very calm: "Boys should be braver." She didn't help her son to get up, instead Stephen was worried, wanted to bring Lucas back to his seat, but Lucas rejected Stephen's help, causing the audience to laugh.

Paris Hilton Lindsay Lohan Sober Buddies!

Good grief — it’s the blind leading the blind!

Lindsay Lohan is getting some assistance in her bid to stay clean and sober from a most unlikely source: frenemy Paris Hilton.

Word on the Curb has it that P.H. has mended her tumultuous friendship with the big screen “Mean Girl,” appointed herself LiLo’s unofficial sober buddy, and is determined to help the actress pick up the pieces of her life.

A tabloid spy spills: “Paris is worried that Lindsay has hit rock bottom and doesn’t want something terrible to happen to her. She wants to put the past behind them. Paris texted Lindsay, and they’ve talked. Both she and Paris promised to make a fresh start.”

Paris and Lindsay famously fell out several years ago, after Lohan began spending time with Paris’s best friend, Nicole Richie. The Hilton heiress was reportedly “furious” with Lindsay for “stealing” her BF. In the years since their friendship unraveled, Lindsay has been arrested twice for DUI, completed two stints in rehab, and continued to battle rumors that her bank account is running on empty. More recently, the former Disney starlet has been banned from drinking alcohol by mandate of a Los Angeles court, fitted with an alcohol-monitoring device, and forced to submit to weekly drug testing.

Brad Pitt Finally Trims Shaggy Beard

Looks like Brad Pitt took a trip to the barber shop!

The actor, 46, was spotted first by photo agency X17 with a trimmed version of his signature goatee while driving in Los Angeles Saturday with partner Angelina Jolie.

Pitt began growing his beard last fall.

Despite speculation that it was to play British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett in drama The Lost City of Z, the actor explained, "It's boredom. No other reason than that."

Nokia X5 square slider gets official in Singapore

Well, hey, Nokia just officially launched the X5 in Singapore, apparently as a followup to the Twist and the latest chubby square slider to hit in the past few months after the the Motorola Flipout and Kin One. No, we're not sure why this form factor is suddenly a Thing either. This guy is actually Nokia's second X5 --a China-only X5 with a totally different design was announced in April, so that's nice and confusing. We don't have an official spec sheet on this new X5 yet, but we're told it runs Symbian S60, and has a five megapixel camera, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube integration, as well as some sort of shake-based notification feature we don't really understand. It comes in black, hot pink, bright blue, and, um, unattractive yellow, and, well, it's pretty thick, if the hands-on photos are to be believed. That's all we know for now -- hit the source links for a bunch more photos, and we'll let you know if we hear anything else.

Natal dubbed 'Kinect;' new Xbox 360 on deck

Microsoft's E3 press conference isn't scheduled to start until Monday morning in Los Angeles, but it appears that at least two of the bigger secrets may be out of the bag. Separate leaks indicate the final name for the Project Natal motion controller (along with a slate of games) and the possibility of a revised Xbox 360 console with a newly designed enclosure.

Project Natal redubbed Kinect: First demonstrated at 2009's E3 show, Microsoft's camera-based Project Natal motion controller will be officially dubbed "Kinect," according to an article in USA Today. It was long understood that the Natal name was simply the camera-based motion controller's working title, so this alleged new moniker wouldn't be a surprise.

In addition to listing several alleged Kinect-related launch titles, the article makes reference to a Cirque du Soleil launch party scheduled for Sunday evening in Los Angeles in the past tense--even though the event hadn't yet started when it was published. That means that the information was likely provided to the paper under embargo, and the article was either published early, or was an exclusive.

Taeyang and Big Bang’s album rumors

We all know that Big Bang is planning to make a comeback with an album in August. We also know that member T.O.P will also be pursuing solo activities later on in the year after Daesung worked on his earlier this year. But now there are rumors that Taeyang will also be releasing his album soon.

The following are all just rumors but there might be some truth to these rumors, because Taeyang’s full length solo album was originally scheduled to be released in January of 2010, remember that?

Taeyang hyped up his solo comeback with his prelude track Where U At and then promoted Wedding Dress during the end of the year. But when the new year came along, his album didn’t drop and instead he was back in Japan like it never happened.

‘Karate Kid’ knocks out competition, garners Oscar talks for Jackie Chan

Despite criticisms behind the remaking of a revered 1980s classic and a misleading title that instead showcases the Chinese martial art of kung fu instead of the original movie’s usage of Japan’s karate, the American premiere of Jaden Smith & Jackie Chan’s vehicle “The Karate Kid” greatly exceeded expectations by topping the box office at an excellent US$56 million opening.

The 2010 remake began receiving much criticism immediately after news from the movie’s studio announcing productions for the flick. One of the more common criticisms of the movie related to the studio changing the remake’s initial title “The Kung Fu Kid” to the 1984’s original title’s “The Karate Kid”, in favor of tying the new version to an existing movie name brand over accuracy. The gamble eventually paid off in America (the initial title was retained outside American shores), as name recognition drew huge audiences and strong positive reviews silenced skeptics’ issues in remaking a classic.

Hankyung’s music video for 2010 Asian Games

We haven’t heard much about Super Junior’s Hankyung since he spoke to the public for the first time back in March, after filing a lawsuit against SM Entertainment.

Fans were afraid that Hankyung would stop singing for good due to lost contact since his departure from Korea. Well, fear no more! Hankyung was chosen to sing a duet with Chinese singer Zhou BiChang (also known as Bibi) for the 2010 Asian Games.

With the release of their music video entitled Having Me As Luck, Hankyung has been causing a positive stir in the Chinese music scene, as well as relieving many ELF’s who were worried about the Super Junior member.

Idol actors become singers to maintain popularity and make more money

Probably most known for its Kpop and Jpop imports (ie. Super Junior and SNSD / KAT-TUN and Arashi) in the local Taiwan market, Avex has recently signed quite a few idol drama actors and turned them into singers – with a good reason.

Immediately after Eddie Peng resolved the contract dispute with his previous agency, Avex helped him release his first EP, “Must Love.” Although there are only a total of five songs on the EP, with Eddie’s popularity accumulated from acting in dramas, the company is willing to spend big in promoting him and even finding Shu Qi and Tiffany Hsu to star in his MVs.

'Karate Kid' opens at No. 1 with $56 million kick

Who would have thought a 12-year-old descended from Hollywood royalty would be the summer box office savior? Such is the case as Jaden Smith and his starring role in The Karate Kid propelled the box office to 11 percent up from last year at this time, when everyone was talking The Hangover and Up. He also dominated over the macho A-Team, more than doubling the opening weekend gross of the ’80s television adaptation. In a summer that’s been primarily dominated by misfires, we’ll take the good news even if it means Mr. Jaden Smith is going to command quite a paycheck the next time he lands a starring role.

From director Harald Zwart, The Karate Kid grossed an estimated $56 million and earned an A grade from audiences, according to exit pollster CinemaScore. It seems not even the 2 hour and 20 minute run time thwarted moviegoers from the China-set underdog story. And with such a strong score from audiences, Karate Kid is now on track to become one of summer’s biggest hits. Don’t be surprised if this film with the $40 million budget grosses well over $200 million before the summer is over.

'Divided' Katy Perry steps out in half-and-half rubber flag dress as she splits her World Cup support

It must have been difficult for Katy Perry to decide who to cheer for during England's World Cup match against the USA yesterday.

As an American, but with a British fiancé in the form of comedian Russell Brand, her loyalties were clearly divided.

So instead of choosing to back one side or the other, Katy Perry showed her support for both teams when she stepped out wearing a rubber dress which had one half made from a Union Jack flag and the other from an American Flag.

The 25-year-old star showed off her amazing figure in the super tight outfit as she left her hotel in London after watching the show to head over for an interview on James Corden's World Cup Live chat show.

Kristen Stewart On Best Kiss Award Acceptance Speech With Robert Pattinson

'He wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula hooping,' Stewart says of Pattinson's alternate ideas for the MTV Movie Awards.

Without a doubt, one of the most talked-about moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards was Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's acceptance "speech" for winning the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss. Fans loved the quick, awkward kiss Pattinson grabbed from Stewart onstage, but when MTV caught up with him backstage afterwards, he admitted that the stunt didn't work out the way they'd planned.

Apparently Pattinson had other ideas for ways the two "Twilight" stars could accept the award, so when MTV News caught up with Stewart at the press junket for "Eclipse," we couldn't resist asking her about them.

"He did have some pretty funny ones," she admitted. But when asked if she regretted not acting on any of Pattinson's ideas, she responded, "No, no, definitely not. I'm really glad that we didn't do his."

What was Pattinson's best suggestion, you might ask? It seems as if he took a page right out of the book of his upcoming film "Water for Elephants" for this one.

Lindsay Lohan forgets about covering up her SCRAM anklet to go sunbathing in sexy black swimsuit

She has tried every method of concealing her SCRAM bracelet by wearing boots, long trousers and maxi dresses.

But it seems Lindsay Lohan has now finally accepted that she will be wearing the alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet for the foreseeable future.

Instead of covering up, the 23-year-old actress stripped down to a revealing black cutaway swimsuit to make the most of the Los Angeles sunshine earlier this week.

Looking healthy and happy, Lindsay relaxed with friends and her sister Ali by the pool of a hotel, apparently not caring who saw her unsightly anklet.

She is said to have relaxed on sunloungers reading movie scripts as she attempted to top up her golden tan.

Handcuffed and hanging from a rope: Megan Fox as gun-wielding prostitute in Jonah Hex

Hand-cuffed and hanging from a rope, this is Megan Fox in her latest film role as a gun-wielding prostitute.

Promotional shots and a trailer released by Jonah Hex makers Warner Bros show the Transformers star clad in suspenders and corset.

The actress's usually 22-inch waist was laced into a girdle that reduced its diameter to a minuscule 18 inches.

Fox's long skirt was cut away at the front, exposing toned legs clad in red and black stockings and lace-up boots.

An untied neckline flaunted her cleavage, and fingerless elbow-length lace gloves adorned her otherwise bare arms.

The film, described as a Western with a twist, is a film adaptation of a DC Comic and hits cinemas on Friday.

Fox plays Leila, the love interest of Jonah Rex (Josh Brolin) - a bounty hunter who has been shot so many times he has one foot in the living world and one foot in the other.

It is actually pretty mind-blowing that the pixels are so amazingly tiny — we can’t wait to get one in our hands. How about you? There’s a larger shot after the jump.

Despite criticisms, the love-line between TaecYeon and YoonA continues this week on Family Outing

The love-line between TaecYeon and YoonA continues on Family Outing 2 this week.

On SBS Family Outing 2 aired on 13th June, Brown Eyed Girls GaIn was guest appearance on the show, and the love-line for GaIn and Jo Kwon, and YoonA and TaecYeon are one of the higlights of the show.

With the urging of the other Family members, GaIn and Jo Kwon took a walk in the DamYang Bamboo Park. And TaecYeon and YoonA who had received great attention from the Family members from last week’s episode, continues to show off their love-line on the show with TaecYeon saying to YoonA, “To me, you are the best bamboo shoot.”

And during the balloon-bursting match between Kim HeeChul and YoonA, YoonA had decided to take revenge on HeeChul for calling her a grandmother from the previous episode. She told Kim HeeChul in confrontation, “If you make fun of me one more time, you are dead.” With that, the 2 got into a rough match to burst each other’s balloon tied to their back. Seeing that, the Family members told TaecYeon, “Help YoonA out”. TaecYeon then stepped in to help burst HeeChul’s balloon.

With the praises pouring in from the Family members, TaecYeon was seen shy and he even turned red in his ears.

Raymond Lam not talking about Linda Chung, afraid Tavia Yeung jealous

Because TVB series "The Mysteries of Love" plagiarized Japanese drama "Detective Galileo" too much, the issue even caught the Japanese media attention and criticisms from the Japanese Netizens. Yesterday a celebration party for the series was held in Olympian City. Lead actors Raymond Lam, Tavia Yeung and Kenneth Ma attended to celebrate the series reaching 850,000 hits online.

Regarding to the plagiarism, Raymond said that he has looked at the Japanese websites and that actually the rumors went from Hong Kong to Japanese. Increasing popularity in Japan, does he feel honored? He smiled and said that he will think more about this because TVB series are getting more popular in Korea. He said: "Hong Kong's martial art films are already very popular in other countries."

With the opening of the World Cup, Raymond frankly said that the TV ratings have been affected, he said: "because tonight at 10pm, there will be a game, the episode ends at 10:30pm, I'm afraid we may lose some viewers at 10." Towards rumored girlfriend Linda Chung saying he has 'prince illness'? He quickly pulled female lead Tavia into the water: "What, there's no topics? I'm afraid Tavia might get jealous."
