If you were still harboring desires for a Microsoft KIN of your own, act fast. According to two sources speaking to WMExperts, Verizon are freezing sales and sending back all remaining stock today, Sunday July 18th. Having axed the feature-phone project – targeted at a “Generation Upload” teen market that didn’t seem particularly inclined to either give up their regular “adult” smartphones or stomach overpriced data packages – it now looks like Microsoft are gathering up the unwanted remnants.
So, if you still see a KIN fitting into your life somehow – and we do still have a soft spot for the dinky form-factor of the KIN One – then probably best to head down to your nearest Verizon store first thing and catch them before they get busy with the packing tape. A quick check of Verizon’s own site shows the listings for the two handsets are still present, but clicking on them prompts the warning that neither is “available at this time”.

In response to Apple’s antenna-oriented press event, Consumer Reports responded by refusing to give the Apple iPhone 4 its golden seal of approval. The consumer product ratings company commended Apple for taking a first step in solving the antenna problem but denounced Apple’s case giveaway as a limited and temporary fix. Consumer Reports states:
Consumer Reports believes Apple’s offer of free cases is a good first step. However, Apple has indicated that this is not a long-term solution, it has guaranteed the offer only through September 30th, and has not extended it unequivocally to customers who bought cases from third-party vendors. We look forward to a long-term fix from Apple. As things currently stand, the iPhone 4 is still not one of our Recommended models.
Consumer Reports joins a growing list of companies, including Nokia and RIM, that are responding in a less than favorable way to Apple’s proposed solution.

Apple's Friday press conference may have left a bad taste in some rival handset manufacturer's mouths, but not all of them are taking Cupertino's derision of their devices seriously -- HTC's Droid Eris was arguably the most affected by the grip of doom, its bars dropping to zilch when held, but the Taiwanese company's keeping any controversial opinions to itself for now. Instead, it's sharing a simple percentage to help clear the air. Whereas Apple claimed over 0.55 percent of customers called AppleCare with reception-related complaints, HTC's Eric Lin told Pocket-lint the Droid Eris technical support rate was 0.016 percent, nearly thirty-four times lower -- though even with a seven-month head start, we have to wonder if the Eris sold close to three million by the time Verizon brought the axe down.

A rumor originating from Droid-Life suggests that DROID Incredible owners may be the recipients of an OTA update this weekend. The update is rumored to bring 720p video recording, several bug fixes, Skype, the MyVerizon app, updated widgets, and the DROID red eye boot animation to the Incredible. Some hard-core Android fans will be disappointed to know that this update is expected to be Android 2.1 and not the much anticipated Froyo build. If this rumor pans out, and Big Red sticks to its previous rollout schedule, Incredible owners should receive the update in waves with a small number receiving it on day one and increasing numbers on subsequent days. If you are one of the lucky recipients of the update, hit us up in the comments with your first impressions.
UPDATE: Looks like the OTA update is now hitting handsets!
