Lindsay Lohan Released From Jail

So long, slammer.

After 13 days behind bars, Lindsay Lohan was released from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., around 1:35 a.m. Monday.

Lohan, 24, now is in rehab. Though she was originally set to spend three months at high-end residential facility Morningside Recovery in Orange County, Calif., she will report to the UCLA Medical Center, according to TMZ.

After she completes treatment, the actress will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing until Aug. 2011, when her probation term ends. She is still allowed to take certain prescription medications.

Lohan had been behind bars since July 20 for violating probation in her DUI case. (She was originally sentenced to 90 days but was released early due to good behavior and overcrowding.)

Her time in the slammer was fraught with drama.

When she was first taken to her 12-by-8 cell, she was "crying," said Alexis Neiers (of E!'s Pretty Wild), who was in jail at the same time for burglarizing Orlando Bloom's home.

"She was talking to deputies and, you know just trying to — I couldn't really like make it out - but from what I saw the first day, I mean, she was lying in there and just trying to like calm down," she said.

Though some inmates claimed the actress was receiving special treatment, her attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told UsMagazine.com that was not the case and that Lohan had even "made some friends."

Her mother Dina was most outspoken about her daughter's time behind bars.

"She doesn't have cell phone privileges, that's absurd," she said. "She doesn't even have a pillow to sleep on. I talk to her through glass. There's a phone and we put her on speaker but I can't even hug my daughter ... She's treated like a common criminal."

Windows 7 passes Vista in usage

In less than a year on the market, Windows 7 is now being used more than predecessor Windows Vista, according to market researcher Netmarketshare.

For July, Windows 7 was used on 14.46 percent of devices accessing the Internet, compared with Windows Vista's 14.34 percent, marking the first time the newer version surpassed its predecessor. Microsoft has said that 175 million copies of Windows 7 have been purchased since the product was released last fall.

Windows XP is still the most-used operating system, used by more than twice as many users as Vista and Windows 7 combined. Windows XP was used by nearly 62 percent of devices accessing the Web.

As for other devices, Macs accounted for about 5 percent of Internet usage, with the iPhone, Linux, and Java-based devices accounting for less than a percentage point of market share apiece.

Usage of Windows 7 has been growing quickly since its release. Within a month on the market, Windows 7 was being used by 4 percent of Net-accessing devices, a level it took Vista seven months to reach. Windows 7 topped 10 percent usage by March.

Netmarketshare also found that Internet Explorer use gained for a second consecutive month after many, many months of declines. IE gained 0.42 percent market share, topping 60 percent usage for the second month in a row after dropping below that level for May.

Android market share swells 886% year-on-year in Q2 2010; RIM and Apple trail behind

Smartphone demand is up, and the winner is Android according to market analysts Canalys. They’ve been tracking US and global trends, and reckon that in Q2 2010 Android sales rose 886-percent from last year (851-percent in the US), giving them the number one market share in the US with 34-percent; they’re trailed, supposedly, by RIM at 32-percent of market share and Apple at 21.7-percent.

As for worldwide figures, Nokia’s European and Asian strengths come into play with a 38-percent market share, making them the number one smartphone company. Apple, meanwhile, has 13-percent of the worldwide market share. The worldwide smartphone market grew by 64-percent annually in the quarter, with Apple seeing 61-percent growth.

China continues to be the second largest smartphone market, with Nokia significantly ahead of the pack when it comes to manufacturer representation; almost 77-percent of smartphones in Q2 2010 came from the Finnish company. As for the future, according to Canalys Senior Analyst, Pete Cunningham, “by 2013, smart phones will grow to represent over 27-percent of shipments worldwide, with the proportion in some developed markets in Western Europe surpassing 60-percent and 48-percent in North America.”

Inception Still Leads at Box Office

The dream goes on. Inception won the weekend at North American theaters, according to early studio estimates. Christopher Nolan's labyrinthine thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the leader of a team that invades a man's sleep patterns, earned $27.5 million in its third weekend. The film thus joins Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Shrek Forever After — all movies whose protagonists fall or leap into alternative-reality dream worlds — in 2010's three-time-winners' club. Inception should cross the $200 domestic mark by Tuesday, and has already taken in $170 million abroad.

The second place finisher, Dinner for Schmucks, had been the top-grossing movie Friday night, before tepid word-of-Tweet (and a so-so B rating from CinemaScore's exiting moviegoers) alerted frequent filmgoers that the Steve Carell-Paul Rudd comedy was not an essential see. Schmucks should finish the weekend with $23.3 million, or almost as much as the combined take of the other two entries in wide release. The sequel Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore pulled in a kitten- or puppy-sized $12.5 million, landing in fifth place. Maybe the hit cartoon Despicable Me, which earned $15.5 million in its fourth weekend, sucked too much helium out of the kids'-party balloon. Or maybe the fanciers of CGI-aided talking-canine comedies are saving their money for Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, due out later this year.

JailbreakMe site hacks iOS on iPhone, iPad & iPod touch

Jailbreaking your iOS device may be officially permitted under the DMCA, but that presumes there’s a jailbreak out there to run. Happily, anyone with an iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1 or iPad 3.2.1 device now has a super-straightforward way to jailbreak, thanks to comex’s new JailBreakMe site.

Doing so is as easy as visiting http://jailbreakme.com/ on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and sliding the appropriate control. Right now the site is up and down as eager users attempt to access it, so you may be better off waiting a while.

Of course it’s also worth remembering that, while the DMCA says it’s okay, Apple says jailbreaking your device will nonetheless invalidate your warranty. As with any hack, attempt it at your own risk!

Page-turning 'Macallan' UI will hit a Windows 7 tablet this year (video)

There's not much to your average prototype Windows 7 tablet -- just a netbook running the vanilla OS with a touchscreen instead of keyboard -- but if you've been wondering why you might care to buy one, just get a load of this Macallan UI. Developed by a third-party firm named UI Centric specifically for Windows tablet devices, it features a clean, finger-friendly interface capable of Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, and uses the crowd-pleasing page flip gesture for multitasking functionality. Perhaps most importantly, however, UI Centric claims it will actually appear on a real slate -- come Q3 2010, a "major manufacturer" will debut the first Macallan-topped device. We're curious to see how it (and a bottle of fine scotch) will stack up against September's ExoPC. Video after the break.

Andy Hui Announces Breakup With Girlfriend Michelle

In yesterday's "Music is Live," Andy Hui suddenly disclosed he broke up with girlfriend Michelle last month. Asked whether is because of his reuniting rumors with Sammi Cheng that caused girlfriend to leave? Andy said helplessly: "It's not because of Sammi, just she and I have personality difference, really isn't because of Sammi."

Last night after the concert, reporters asked whether his girlfriend came to support him? Andy suddenly exposed they already broke up last month. He said: "I'm a human just like everyone else. I can only say she is a good girl. Unfortunately we have personality difference. Now can only look forward to the future." But asked whether he said to break up first, he said he doesn't want to talk about it. Whenever everyone asks him about girlfriend before, he doesn't know how to answer it as well. Now he can only tell everyone they broke up.

Ariel Lin travels to England for upcoming album

Idol drama princess Arien Lin is making her mark yet again in the pop music arena, as she is close to releasing her second album titled "A Wonderful Journey". For her latest music production, the actress/singer was given the financial treatment from mega-music label avex to travel to English in order to add a touch of British flair, while also letting the popular Taiwanese entertainer genuinely appreciate the joys of the wonderful journey that comes in launching one's music.

Last year, Ariel debuted her freshman album titled "Blissful Encounter", where she discovered her growing ambitions as a serious singer. With the August 21st release of her sophomore album "A Wonderful Journey", Ariel said: "This experience of these two years with the release of two albums, it sort of resembles destiny setting me up for another fateful stage." avex is known to have spent approximately US$1.5 million for Ariel's latest album, letting her go to England to film MVs, choose the location of the scenery, as well as promote her new status as avex's pop princess.

Ariel expressed that she wanted the mood of the new album to convey more intimacy, especially for a few of her love songs that describe the emotion of love. After she communicated the overall plan of the album's lyrical style to a veteran songwriter, the result is the final product in her latest album. Pre-orders for her new album have already begun, and the album will come released as two versions: a limited commemorative hardcover edition and a value-priced paperback edition. The former will include a full-color photo book of her travels in England, a bounded frame, and four postcards with portraits of her travels.

Jessica Simpson Posts Pic of Her Kissing Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson isn't afraid to show the world her love for new beau Eric Johnson.

She posted a shot of her smooching her latest squeeze (a Yale graduate) on her Twitter page.

"Romance 101..getting kissed by my Yalie...me not lookin' so smart...:)" she wrote. "but YUM!"

The new Us Weekly reports Johnson, 30, has pulled out of the two-year business program at the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton school to remain in L.A. with the 30-year-old singer.

Even though they've only been together eight weeks, a source tells Us: "He doesn’t want to move to Philadelphia and leave her so soon after they got together."

New Michael Jackson Album Nov. 2010

A brand new collection of unreleased Michael Jackson songs is bound for the shelves of music retailers.

On Friday, Jim Bates — a representative from the King of Pop’s estate — confirmed with Rolling Stone that a new 10 song album will be in stores in time for the holidays. Jackson’s older brother Jackie is helping to prepare the album for release, said Jim Bates, the spokesman for Jackson’s estate.

The album — to be produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins — is the first in a 10-project, 7-year deal between the Jackson estate and Sony that was signed in March 2010.

Michael’s latest release goes on sale wherever music is sold this November.

Apple's antenna videos disappear from site

Perhaps you remember the videos in which Apple proved beyond an unreasonable doubt that all cell phones have the same antenna issues of which the iPhone 4 is accused.

Hold, say, a Droid X just so, and, well, the signal bars go down like an Englishman after 11 p.m.

Strangely, these videos appear to have made something of a sudden disappearance from Apple's own site. Their disappearance seems first to have been noted by Noah Hendrix, a computer science student at Kansas University.

His observational skills were bolstered by TechCrunch, which trawled around to see where they might still be found. (One of the answers being Canada. Or more accurately, Apple's Canadian site.)

New Photos of Cecilia Cheung’s Son, Quintus, Revealed!

Yesterday, new photos of baby Quintus circulated on Facebook. Chubby Quintus looked smartly into the camera with his round, bright eyes. He was dressed in a soccer player outfit and continued to clutch on to his “soccer ball” in his sleep!
