Oksana Grigorieva Wins $15K More (Per Month) in Child Support from Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson is hardly famous for his stress-management skills, so you've got to pity the person who delivered the latest news in his legal battle with Oksana Grigorieva: A judge has determined that the Oscar winner should be paying his ex-girlfriend $20,000 in child support payments each month -- instead of $5,000.

The mother of 11-month-old Lucia was awarded the $15,000-per-month increase on Thursday afternoon.

One of Grigorieva's attorneys, Daniel Horowitz, told TMZ, "Everything in Hollywood is to excess. Mel Gibson is worth upwards of $1 billion. It's a very modest award by Hollywood standards and a very high award by normal people standards."

Many "normal people" may be tuning in when Grigorieva sits down with Oprah, to hear what baby-related expenses require that much money. Security has been cited as a legitimate need, to protect the child as the broken family deals with ravenous paparazzi.

And while Gibson's shocking rages toward the mother of his eighth child help illuminate what drove the two apart, curiosity has been escalating (thanks to conflicting reports) about Grigorieva's previous romance with actor Timothy Dalton. Was it another abusive relationship, or wasn't it?

Investigators reportedly possess an email from Grigorieva to Gibson, in which she once claimed that Dalton (with whom she was involved for ten years before she met Gibson) was physically abusive -- a document allegedly provided to authorities by Gibson's camp, in order to demonstrate a history on his ex's part of accusing her significant others of violence.

Meanwhile, Grigorieva's camp have vehemently denied the claim, and Dalton insists that he remains close friends with his ex, with whom he has a 13-year-old son.

"Mel Gibson is not half the man Tim Dalton is," Horowitz recently told TMZ.

How Facebook Can Become Bigger In Five Years Than Google Is Today

Remember three years ago, when Microsoft paid a quarter-billion dollars for 1.6% of Facebook and the exclusive right to run banner ads across Facebook.com? Tell the truth, how many of you thought that was a killer business decision? I can’t say I did at the time. But as that deal is about to expire in 2011, Facebook’s status as a revenue juggernaut is rarely questioned any more.

In fact, I have been mulling over data from both companies, and I’m ready to declare in public my belief that Facebook will be bigger in five years than Google is right now, barring some drastic action or accident. Futhermore, Facebook will grow without needing to cut into Google’s core business of text ads, which are still 99% of Google’s profits. Even if every single Facebook user performs just as many searches with Google as ever—including Google Instant, mobile search, and YouTube—Facebook will inexorably grow as big as Google is today and maybe bigger, because Madison Avenue’s brands are less interested in targeting than they are in broadcasting to vast mother-loving buckets of demographically correct eyeballs, and Facebook has become the perfect platform for that.

What do I mean by bigger? Facebook already has more page views than Google. People already spend more time spent on Facebook than Google. I’m referring to the life blood of any business: revenues.

T-Mobile G2 on sale right now

West of the Rockies? Want a T-Mobile G2 before (practically) anyone else? You may be able to grab your HSPA+ handset right now. We had it on good authority that T-Mobile corporate decided to match Radio Shack and release the G2 three days early, but we got a pleasant surprise when we called to verify that fact -- several stores in California, Oregon and Washington state said we could buy one today if we wanted, and even those who didn't said they'd have it tomorrow if we could bear the wait. Of course, it's less than two hours to closing on the west coast and we can't guarantee the handsets are there -- so give them a call yourself -- and be sure to buckle up if you plan to rush out. It also couldn't hurt to read our full preview, of course, and if you grab one please do let us know how your hinges hold up.

Hebe promotes environmental friendliness in new "To Hebe" MV

Hebe Tien Fu-Chen releases her newest single, “To Hebe”. Through producer Sandee Chan (who wrote the song and lyrics), Hebe expresses her views on today’s society. The song promotes environmental friendliness which coincides to the same theme as her album. On the day she was filming the MV, Sandee also visited Hebe. The two had also collaborated and wrote “離別曲" (roughly translates to Farewell Song) together previously. In regards to the latest single, Hebe expressed, “Teacher Sandee wrote the song very well, it touches my heart. I hope I can overcome my mentality and love this world more.”

For the MV, a young girl was invited to play mini-Hebe. Mini-Hebe was so adorable that Hebe said, “I like her so much! Her cheeks are so round that I want to take a bite…I want to take her home.”

Hebe tries out various image styles in the MV including holding a samurai sword, drawing, eating dim-sum, and tangling herself with film. Hebe, who was wearing black from head to toe, was full of coolness. Hebe revealed, “During my teenage, I was more passionate and held onto my dream. I always thought that I could do something to change things around.”

Apple iPads Targeting Netbooks, Not Notebooks

While the Apple iPad may not be cannibalizing the notebook PC market, the usage patterns of iPad owners are a "dagger at the heart of the usage model for netbooks," an NPD analyst reported Friday.

NPD, which tracks retail sales of U.S. products, said in a report that only 13 percent of iPad owners purchased an iPad instead of a PC, while 24 percent substituted the purchase of an e-book reader for the iPad tablet. Nielsen has also constructed its own profile of iPad owners.

And, not surprisingly, iPad customers are more likely to use Apple products, NPD's report found - 48 percent of iPad owners own a Mac desktop or notebook, and 53 percent of iPad owners own a Windows desktop. The latter number is significant, as 75 percent of total householders, including those who do not own iPads, own a Windows desktop, NPD found.

The question of whether the iPad, and tablets in general, have begun taking sales away from typical PCs and netbooks has been a persistent question since the iPad's launch. Wall Street analysts have raised the issue repeatedly in quarterly conference call, with executives from Intel, for example, being asked about the tablet's impact on nearly every quarterly conference call.

Samsung Captivate gets unofficial Froyo build, with Flash 10.1, mobile hotspot and more (video)

Now that your AT&T-locked Samsung Galaxy S can occasionally find satellites, you're probably hoping that the carrier kicks out some creamy Froyo as well, and it looks like that day isn't far away -- an unofficial but seemingly feature-complete Android 2.2 build is available for the Captivate right now. The faithful fiends at xda-developers have got build UCJI6 ready for download, which brings a mobile hotspot, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, the JIT compiler, Media Hub support, and a host of UI tweaks to boot. Instructions are available at the links below to walk you through the process, assuming you've already got root, have backed up all your files and are willing to take the risks in case this leaked build isn't as official as it seems. See a video walkthrough of the new software right after the break.

'Social Network': Friday audiences Like it enough to make it No. 1 at box office

With more than $8 million earnings on Friday night, The Social Network is destined for a first place finish at the weekend box office. How much it earns by Sunday night is still an open question, with estimates ranging from $21 million to $27 million. Even if the result is at the low end of that spread, Social Network will win the weekend easily. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, The Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoole, and The Town all have a shot at $10 million for the weekend, with each earning around $3 million on Friday night.

Easy A is likely to grab the last spot in the top five in its third weekend, taking in more than $2 million on Friday night; its three-day take should be around $8 million. The weekend’s two new horror releases, Let Me In and Case 39, are not likely to generate much income. Both grossed less than $2 million Friday night, and are unlikely to earn much more than $5 million for the weekend. Come back tomorrow for a full report.

Microsoft's case against Motorola won't hurt Google, Android or Linux

Microsoft has filed a major patent infringement lawsuit against Motorola — and indirectly, Google, Linux and open source.

The software giant’s case against Motorola’s Android devices won’t slow the momentum of Google smartphones or its Linux-based open source operating system.

Consumers don’t pay attention to patent infringement cases. Unless the court opts to halt sales of Motorola’s Android smartphones, which is also unlikely, the market for Android devices will keep skyrocketing.

But will it impact the emerging Android-based tablet market?

Dell and other PC makers are gearing up for explosive growth in the Android-based tablet market, based in part on the success of Apple’s iPad and the success of Android-based smartphones vis a vis Apple’s iPhone.

HTC Merge / Lexicon prototype previewed, 800MHz processor produces sweet scores (video)

Here's a little something to make your weekend fly by -- Android Central scored a hands-on look at Verizon's dual-mode CDMA / GSM worldphone, the HTC Merge (or is that Lexikon?) and it's looking like one hell of a handset. Though the prototype's Android 2.2 build is saddled with HTC Sense and Bing for search, the hardware's reportedly superb, with a "clicky and responsive and very well spaced" slide-out QWERTY keyboard with no Desire Z hinge nonsense, and a weighty, solid feel. There's also a 5 megapixel shooter that does 720p video, a likely 2GB of on-board storage and 512MB of RAM, not to mention an 800MHz processor that'll surely help derail the megahertz myth with superb benchmark scores. See it pull a 1,500 in Quadrant after the break, and start dropping those nickels into your piggy bank.

Rainie Yang wears Love Moschino to show her feminine and attractive side

From the teenage girl way back in Meteor Garden, Rainie Yang has grown into an attractive woman. Not only has her personality changed over the years, her choice of wardrobe has also changed. The 26 year old modeled some lovely dresses from Love Moschino; She made fun of her herself, “The me in the past would have worn a tank top inside this and pull it all the way up to my neck!”

The “Guru of Cuteness” was met with a bottleneck two years ago where she was confused about her image, “I was 24, and wasn’t very sure of what my style should be. (I) was stuck.” After her last year’s birthday, she came to realize that her cuteness is of a woman, mature yet not needing to try hard to pretend to be an adult. She gradually accepted herself as that.
