Box office: Can 'Iron Man 2' beat 'Dark Knight'?

Two summers ago, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight broke all kinds of records with its $158 million opening weekend. Now Marvel is trying to beat that number with a sequel of its own. But will the Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 be able to surpass the mania surrounding The Dark Knight? Many prognosticators think so. And with the Robert Downey Jr.-toplined movie opening in a massive 4,380 locations, the screen availability is certainly there to help Iron Man 2 surpass Dark Knight‘s record. (Dark Knight opened in 4,366 theaters, by comparison.) But where Dark Knight scored glowing reviews, critics aren’t all that hot on Iron Man 2. (Our own Lisa Schwarzbaum gave the movie a C+.) Still, the movie is swallowing up everything in its path, so this weekend’s grosses will be interesting to watch — whether Iron Man‘s sequel turns out to be a record-breaker.

Lea Michele Spent Entire Time 100 Gala Sucking Face With Boyfriend

The all-singing and dancing hit series Glee is arguably the hottest thing on television right now. In recent weeks, series star Lea Michele has been hit by tabloid reports that her sudden surge in stardom is beginning to go to her head — and her behavior at this week’s Times 100 Gala has done little to thwart such chatter. According to spywitnesses, the brunette powerhouse — who was named one of the publication’s 100 Most Influential People just last week — spent the entire dinner making out with her boyfriend…..While people were eating, mind you. Brain bleach!

In fact, Lea was so engrossed in playing tonsil hockey with the BF, she made no time for any of the other high-profile guests and when legendary celebrity photographer Patrick McMullan floated over to take her picture, let’s just say things got tense:

'I'm the worst in my acting class' admits Hollywood's highest paid actress Emma Watson

The's Hollywood's highest paid actress and the star of one of the biggest film franchises of all time.

But Emma Watson has revealed she enrolled in acting classes at her American college.

And in a candid confession, the 20-year-old said: 'I think actually I'm the worst in the class.'

Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, chose acting class during her first year at the exclusive Brown University in Rhode Island.

She admitted that she was terrified of going back to school following the phenomenal success of the six Harry Potter films that catapulted her to stardom.

Watson was nine years old when she beat out thousands of other hopefuls to land the role of Hermione alongside Daniel Radcliffe as the boy wizard Harry Potter.

With an estimated fortune of £10.5million, Watson was named last year by Vanity Fair magazine as Hollywood's highest paid actress taking home £20million.

Twitter for Android: the best apps reviewed

You know what's awesome? Cookie dough ice cream. But when it comes to the smartphone market, the 18-month-old, steadily-growing Android platform is equally wondrous. Sure, Google may have a tiny bit of catching up to do when compared with Apple's market share, but at least Android users are already spoiled with a handful of good Twitter apps. Better yet, Twitter has now thrown in its official app to spice up the competition, so we thought it'd be interesting to put it head-to-head against the third-party clients. Read on to find out if we have a winner.

Let's start off with a quick introduction to each of the Twitter clients that we'll be comparing, but do bear with us while we give the newcomer a slightly longer rundown:

iPhone Prototype : Judge nixes media request for iPhone warrant

A San Mateo County judge on Thursday refused to consider a request by media organizations to learn the justification police used to search a Gizmodo editor's home for information about the sale of a possible iPhone prototype.

Judge Stephen Hall rejected the group's request for a hearing on Thursday, instead assigning it to the judge who granted the search warrant last month and who is expected to hear arguments next week.

The District Attorney's Office opposed the request filed by CNET, the Associated Press, Bloomberg, the Los Angeles Times, and other news organizations in a legal brief filed Thursday with the court. The prosecutors argued that they have the right to "maintain the security of an ongoing investigation, which may well be compromised by the disclosure of the search warrant affidavit."

Yuri, Yoona and Seohyun show off their sexy curves for Caribbean Bay

I think we still have a long time ’till we ever get to see girl group idols show off their cleavage but we also all know that those same idols love showing off their flat abs and beautiful legs.

SNSD’s Yuri, Yoona and Seohyun flaunted their own curves for the Caribbean Bay CF. The girls along with 2PM have been garnering a ton of attention through this endorsement and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon.

In these photos, you can see that they all have perfect stomachs. What guy wouldn’t want them and what girl wouldn’t want to be them?

Chris Brown Given Props By Judge

A judge offered praise to Chris Brown this morning for adhering to the terms of the suspended sentence resulting from his brutal attack on Rihanna last year.

Basically, everything is going according to plan.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg said Brown is in good standing with the court and Chris continues to make progress in completing his community service and hard labor sentence, plus attending his domestic violence counseling.

In fact, the newly-minted 21-year-old has completed all but one of his required 52 anti-domestic-violence counseling sessions, and has served out 290 hours of hard labor, or roughly 36 of his required 180 days - in short, he's working hard.

Microsoft to fix holes in Windows, Office

Microsoft on Tuesday will issue two critical bulletins that will fix vulnerabilities in Windows and Office, which if exploited successfully, could allow a remote attacker to take control of the computer, the company said Thursday.

The bulletins, part of the company's monthly Patch Tuesday fixes, affect Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003 and Server 2008, Office XP, Office 2003, 2007 Microsoft Office System, and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications and Visual Basic for Applications software development kit. Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 customers are not vulnerable in their default configurations, however, the company said in a post on the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) blog.

Absent from the Patch Tuesday's bulletins, however, will be a fix for a vulnerability in SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 that was disclosed last week and which could lead to a cross-site scripting attack via the browser. Proof of concept exploit code has been published.

ExoPC Windows 7-based slate not coming until September, will play 1080p vids

There's still no official word on whether HP's Slate has been canned, but the more we hear about ExoPC's slate, the more we think it could be a pretty stellar Win 7 tablet option. The company's founder just told us that the tablet is slated (pun intended, good sirs) for a September 7 launch date in the US, Canada and France, and that the 32GB version will retail for $599. As for the specs, the capacitive 11.6-inch tablet will still be using an Atom N450 processor, but will be paired with Broadcom's Crystal HD card to enable 1080p playback. And that's not all, they also sent us some more shots of the ExoPC UI Layer, and the interface appears to be incredibly sleek -- it looks like you can even save web shortcuts to a Connect Four type layout. There will also be an app store, and the dev kit will be available at the end of June. That's all beautiful, but hear us out, ExoPC: we're counting on you to put an end to the Win 7 tablet vaporware trend, okay?

Photographer Leslie Kee Exposes Sexy Photo of Cecilia Cheung

Singaporean photographer Leslie Kee took many photos of big stars like Aaron Kwok, Cecilia Cheung, Shawn Yu, Daniel Wu, etc. He photographed many controversial sexy photos of them. This time Leslie posted a photo of him and Cecilia Cheung on his website. In the photo, Cecilia was topless and only her adhesive bra was shown. Her hair style and make-up resembled the one in Leslie's official photo album, seems like this is a behind the scene photo.

Leslie is releasing a new photo album soon featuring Angelababy, Edison Chen, and Shawn Yu, etc. Netizens criticized Leslie for using Ceclia before she give birth to second child on Mother's Day. No comment from Leslie at the moment.

Seungri, “I didn’t want to be left as Big Bang’s ‘cute maknae’”

“My solo album? Hahaha, it’s not a conspiracy with Yang CEO like I said on variety shows.”

Last 2009, Seungri (21, Lee Seung Hyun) came out with solo performances, surprising his fans. Turning into a Seungri that oozed of manliness, he exceeded expectations by having a stage performance that was impressive and talented.

“My solo activities weren’t planned. There was this time I sang “U-Go-Girl” with Lee Hyori nuna at MKMF. Yang CEO saw that and I guess he thought ‘It’ll be okay if I put him up on stage alone.”

To promote a solo song which the hyungs haven’t even done. Seungri was so excited. He felt like he had the world at his fingertips.

Worm spreading via Yahoo Messenger

A worm is spreading via Yahoo Instant Messenger Thursday that tricks people into downloading what they think is a photo from a friend but is instead malware that installs a backdoor on Windows systems and spreads to a victim's IM contacts.

The worm arrives via a message from a contact with the word "photo" or "photos" and a smiley face icon, along with a link to a Web site resembling a Facebook page, MySpace page, or some other page where photos might reside.

CTV will air Viter Fan’s new drama after Down With Love

Viter Fan “First Night” crisis has caused endless headaches for everyone involved in his new drama 就是要香戀 (roughly translates to Just Want a Sweet Love). The production denied rumors that their investors wanted out due to Fan’s poor image. They stressed the cast is currently busy filming, and they will soon travel to Vietnam to film on location. CTV confirmed yesterday that the drama will be Down With Love’s successor after it finishes its run.

CTV said they decided to air the drama as planned after considering the cast’s hard work and serious performance. They don’t want to do the actors injustice just because of one individual. Apparently, investors have watched Viter Fan’s previous work before filming started and approved of his acting skills. They acknowledge the public’s negative opinion on him, but they respect the team’s performance. However, it was unfortunate that the actor might have ruined his own career.

Cheryl Cole gets cosy with Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am after London gig (and even introduces him to her mother)

Will.i.am has made no secret of his crush on Cheryl Cole, calling her 'the most beautiful woman in the world'.

So it's little wonder the American singer jumped at the chance to get close to her backstage after their gig in London last night.

The Girls Aloud star is supporting The Black Eyed Peas on tour and after playing the O2 Arena, the pair were spotted chatting over drinks in the Bacardi VIP arena at 12.40am.

The 26-year-old even introduced the performer, whom she worked with on her debut solo album 3 Words, to her mother Joan.

An insider said: 'After posing for pictures with fans, Cheryl joined Will who was visibly happier to have her there with him, and even spent some time talking to her mum, who came to watch her perform.

Opera wades into Flash debate, says it 'makes very little sense' for video

Opera Software already caused quite a stir with the release of the iPhone version of its browser, and it looks like it's now starting to make itself heard in one of the biggest browser-related debates going. Speaking with Tech Radar, Opera's product analyst Phillip Grønvold started out with something of a diplomatic approach by saying that "today's internet content is dependent on Flash" and "if you remove Flash you do not have today's internet," and for that reason Opera needs to support Flash. Things get a bit more interesting from there, however, with Grønvold stating that while Flash has its place for things like dynamic content, it "makes very little sense" as a video container given the impact on processor and battery usage, adding that "you can cook an egg on [devices] once you start running Flash on them and there's a reason for that." Fried eggs, potatoes -- these browsers sure are making us hungry.

Is Microsoft using Internet Explorer 9 to force upgrades from XP?

Is Microsoft using Internet Explorer 9 as a tool for force users to upgrade from Windows XP?

Internet Explorer 9 will not be supported by Windows XP. Period. Microsoft’s web technical evangelist Giorgio Sardo, speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo, has confirmed this. The reason given is that HTML5 and hardware acceleration require a modern OS.

Note: Interestingly, while XP users won’t be able to benefit from IE9, pirates will, as there will be no validation required.

But is this nothing more than a cunning ploy to make users upgrade the OS?

You can pre-order HTC EVO 4G later this month

It seems as though this image was sent to every blog on the internet, so we thought…why not throw our watermark on it too? It looks like the HTC EVO 4G — exclusively available from Sprint — will be available for pre-order later this month from everyone’s favorite electronics vendor…The Shack? At its CTIA launch the EVO was scheduled for a “summer” release and, judging by this latest tidbit of information, it would appear as though that timeline is still good. What do you think? Will anyone be pre-ordering an EVO from The Shack, or will you be holding out to get yours directly from Sprint?

Kris Allen on the controversy over his new single, 'The Truth,' and those added Pat Monahan vocals

Kris Allen fans have been waiting for months for an announcement about a followup single to his platinum-selling debut ditty, “Live Like We’re Dying.” But the recent decision by Jive/19 to serve radio with a recut rendition of “The Truth” — it’s now a duet with Train frontman Pat Monahan that’s slated to hit iTunes on May 11 — has met with its fair share of controversy. I caught up with the American Idol season 8 champ to find out who cooked up the idea for a reconfigured track, how the duet came about, and whether or not he’s upset that despite having cowritten nine of the 12 tracks on his self-titled disc, his label has now chosen two singles he didn’t have a hand in writing. (For the uninitiated, both versions of “The Truth,” with and without Monahan, are embedded after the jump.)

EW: Let’s talk about your new single, “The Truth.” The album version of the song contains your vocals only. Now it’s been re-recorded as a duet of sorts with Train’s Pat Monahan (who co-wrote the song with Toby Gad). How did that come about?
KRIS ALLEN: It came about through an idea from the label. Their idea was that Pat wrote the song, so why not get him involved in it in some way. And obviously Train is doing really well right now, and I don’t think that can be ignored. Everyone thought it was a good idea.

Mark Chao's costar in the Black & White movie to be announced in Cannes

Mark Chao will be heading to the Cannes International Film Festival to promote the movie version of Black & White. The upcoming film is titled “Black & White: The First Installment” and will be followed by a sequel. However, the production have yet to reveal who will play Vic Chou’s role in the movie. Director Tsai Yueh-Hsun explained that due to a confidentiality agreement, they will make the announcement at the festival

Blue Lan will also be traveling to France to promote his movie Uma 2010. He was unable to attend the Taipei press conference yesterday as he was filming his TV series. Director Wang Xiao-Di said, “Blue Lan has always strive for his future development with his company, (he) will announce an important decision in Cannes.”

How the iPad gobbles up netbook sales

Also getting cannibalized: iPod touches, eReaders, desktop PCs and handheld videogames

There's an interesting chart in a report to clients issued early Thursday morning by Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty.

The subject of her report is last week's acquisition of Palm (PALM) by Hewlett Packard (HPQ). In Huberty's bull-case scenario, HP builds a tablet computer around Palm's WebOS that not only competes with Apple's (AAPL) iPad, but captures 15% of the tablet market.

Lady Gaga Performs on American Idol

American Idol narrowed its field of finalists to four last night by eliminating Aaron Kelly. But the highlight of the night was a performance by Ms. Lady Gaga.

Ratings are way down this season, but that can't be blamed on the show's roster of results night guest performers, which has been consistently impressive.

GaGa's pre-taped performance, which has been widely anticipated, ran over six minutes in length, but due to time constraints, was cut down to under five.

Yes, Microsoft Office Alarms Us Too

An innocent copy of Microsoft Office, left lying on the pavement? You'd pick it up wouldn't you, dreaming of eBay riches. This is what happens if you pick that bloody yellow box up.

Let it be a lesson for you all.

Will the Sprint Google Nexus One be dropped soon too?

Back when Google announced the first Nexus One for T-Mobile we all tried to figure out what their intentions were concerning selling hardware in their online store. Verizon was announced as a planned carrier at the same time and then we saw Nexus Ones for AT&T and Sprint also announced and understood they wanted to have a single device available across all four major US wireless carriers so that people could buy a device and stick with their carrier. The AT&T version is now available with the T-Mobile version while the Verizon version has been dropped with the HTC Droid Incredible taking its place. With the Sprint HTC EVO 4G becoming available in June we now have to wonder if the Sprint Nexus One will also be dropped soon.

If the Sprint version is dropped then there will be now CDMA version of the Nexus One and the fact that Google sells hardware seems to make less sense. We have said that the US consumer rarely pays unlocked, full unsubsidized price for a phone and instead prefers to pay the carrier for a lower cost device. With the fragmentation in the US market with 3 different radio frequencies for high speed wireless data there really is no choice and flexibility when buying unlocked devices anyway so why not buy the device for your carrier at a lower cost? The Nokia N8 is the first 5-band data device so at least you can buy it later this year and use it on both AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as around the world, and access the Internet at 3G data speeds.

Will Google chalk up the Nexus One experiment as a lesson learned in the US wireless market or will they try again with another smartphone device?

Usher earns ninth No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single, Jay-Z gets 17th top 10

As we reported yesterday, B.o.B steps aside this week, making way for Usher‘s “OMG,” to sit pretty at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 singles chart. B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” now is No. 2, while Rihnna’s “Rude Boy” backs into No. 3.

Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” steps back from No. 4 to No. 5 and Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister” from No. 5 to No. 6.

Don’t feel too bad for B.o.B. The rapper’s new single “Airplanes,” featuring Eminem and Hayley Williams is making a run for the top spot, shooting up from No. 9 to No. 7.

Ke$ha’s “Your Love Is My Drug” repeats at No. 8. Jason DeRulo’s “In My Head” falls from No. 7 to No. 9.

Kristen Stewart Swears: I'm Not a Miserable Person!

A smile on Kristen Stewart's face is like a real body part anywhere on Heidi Montag's body.

Both these examples are as rare as Sarah Palin turning down a speaking engagement.

But the Twilight Saga star says she isn't actually miserable on the red carpet, "it’s just that somebody’s yelling at me... I literally, sometimes, have to keep myself from crying... It’s a physical reaction to the energy that’s thrown at you.”

Yahoo Bitch Slaps Google In $85 Million Ad Campaign

Spending $85 million on marketing isn't easy to swallow, but it's worth it in the case of Yahoo's "It's You" campaign. After all, the latest ad is a blatant attack on Google. Oh yes, the gloves are off again.

Archos 7 Home Tablet ships to Android lovers in June

So you go and pre-order the Archos 7 Home Tablet, thinking it would ship by the end of April. Our deepest apologizes, but according to the official press release below, the 7-inch, Android 1.6 tablet won't be shipping in the US until early June -- though an Archos spokesperson told us that those who pre-ordered may get units before the end of May if they count their lucky stars. The rest of the release doesn't reveal much, but does confirms that the resistive touchscreen device won't have access to the Android Marketplace. Instead -- and as you can see in the unboxing pictures below -- it comes with Archos' AppsLib store and is preloaded with a few apps, including eBuddy and Aldiko's e-reader software. Still, we know the $199.99 tablet sounds tempting, but our review should be up in the next few days. In other words, you should probably hold off on sliding that credit card out -- after all, she ain't shipping 'til June.

Apple's Seamlessly Embedded Heart Rate Monitor could turn the iPhone into a new-age mood ring

Nike is making millions from its Apple-friendly wares, designed to turned technophiles into fitness freaks. Imagine the possibilities if the iPhone could not only track your running stride but also monitor your heart rate while doing it. That's one of a suite of potential uses for this patent app from Apple, a Seamlessly Embedded Heart Rate Monitor. The design is for a series of electrodes that are, well, seamlessly embedded into the shell of a given device in such a way that they are "not visibly or haptically distinguishable on the device." The device could then, with a touch, measure heart-rate, uniquely identify a user, and even "determine the user's mood from the cardiac signals." Just imagine the new flood of EKG-related apps: iPalpitate, Murmur Maker, Cardiac Arrest... the possibilities are endless.
