“American Idol” Wants Paula Abdul Back

Could Paula Abdul be headed back to the judges’ panel of American Idol? In Touch Weekly tattles seem to think so. While many A.I. fans would love to see the ’80s pop star join former frenemy Simon Cowell on the US adaptation of Britain’s The X Factor, Idol bosses are reportedly wooing Paula in hopes that she’ll bring her slurred speech and emotional outbursts back to TV’s most watched talent show.

Getting Paula back is even more important to FOX producers now that ABC’s Dancing with the Stars has been consistently gaining on Idol in the ratings arena. And even more viewers are expected to bid farewell to the series when Cowell retires his sharp-tongued critiques on next month’s ninth season finale.

“They want Paula back,” the insider told In Touch this week. “They’re not sure if she’d be the fifth judge, but they are talking to her. People tuned in to see Paula’s wacky antics and her chemistry with Simon. The show is just not as much fun to watch without her.”

Angelina Jolie: My Kids Make Me an Action Hero

Being a mom may cause some actresses to think twice about jumping off buildings or getting into car chases for work – but not Angelina Jolie.

"The funny thing about having children is that now I am twice as motivated to do a cool stunt because my kids will like it," the actress tells Entertainment Weekly in its new issue.

Jolie, of course, is referring to Salt, due in theaters July 23, in which she plays a CIA agent on the run. Filming began only eight months after she gave birth to twins Knox and Vivienne. "I had just had two babies," she says, "and the push to be physically strong was very welcome at the time."

While her director, Phillip Noyce, wasn't exactly thrilled that Jolie did many of her own stunts – which included being hoisted up 10 stories in the air and jumping from moving cars – he says the actress was utterly fearless. "She doesn't have to do it," he says. "But she has absolutely no fear. Usually when an actor becomes more and more successful, they play it safe."

Is It OK to Hate Glee?

Made the mistake the other day of mentioning I don't like Glee. My friends say I'm a hater. Why do I have to like Glee?

First of all, you can't dislike anything anymore without being called a hater. Not a fan of Miley's movies? Hater. Have a less-than-five-star critique of Rob Pattinson's acting? Hater. Dare to suggest that the final season of Lost is being written by a pod of peyote-munching sea lions with laptops? Hate! Hate! Hater!

But there is a science behind your psychology. Seriously!

The iPad is the future for home computing

I have seen the future of home computing, and it is the iPad. I'm convinced of it.

Yes, iPadurday has come and gone. Many of us have Wi-Fi iPads in our grubby little mitts. Early reviews have been mostly stellar. The device -- and more importantly, the software running it -- is superb, but certainly not perfect. And now we've seen Steve Jobs outline the next release of the operating system, iPhone OS 4.0. That's all well and good, but largely secondary to my point.

I've discussed the app store model here a couple of times, and the security ramifications it carries. Well, let's consider the iPad in that light, now that it has been released.

When I got my iPad, I immediately installed several software packages on it. Most of it was for entertainment (e.g., Netflix, ABC Reader), but I also installed a couple of apps that could at least ostensibly be used for business (e.g., Pages, Keynote). Each installation was simple: I ran the App Store application, found the tools I wanted, and clicked the purchase icon. Within moments, each package installed.

The installation process gave me absolutely no choice as far as where the software would reside on my iPad. In fact, I had no choices whatsoever beyond yes/no to purchase the apps.

Apple iPhone HD Back Cover Supposedly Leaked

Let’s just say that we’re looking at these images with one eyebrow raised. Not only are we entirely way too skeptical of these images for our own good, they just don’t look like the iPhone HD (or 4G, or whatever you want to call it) we’d expect from Apple. Yes, the Cupertino-based company has a love affair with aluminum, but that throws up questions in of itself, considering if you actually want to make a phone call, aluminum is going to make that next to impossible (and it’s not like AT&T needs any more reasons to question their network).

There’s three images in total, and they showed up over at MacRumors, and they’re just as skeptical as we are. They point out that within the meta data of the images, Photoshop made a quick pass through at least a couple times. And, if you look hard enough, you can indeed see that the FCC ID has been blurred. But, that could be to save someone’s identity, if these are indeed the real deal.

Google: Android Market Now Serving 38,000 Apps, Nexus One Is A Profitable Business

Google reported strong earnings this afternoon, with revenue coming in at $5.06 billion for the quarter, up 19 percent from last year. Net income for the quarter also increased to $1.96 billion, up from $1.4 billion last year. Of course, we heard a few interesting tidbits during the earnings call, specifically relating to Google’s mobile business.

The Android Market now includes 38,000 apps, up 8,000 apps from a month ago. The application store for Android devices supposedly hit the 10,000 apps milestone in September 2009 and grew to some 16,000 apps in Android Market in December 2009.

Additionally, Google revealed that Nexus One, Google’s recently launched Android phone, is a profitable business for the search giant. The fact that’s its already profitable is surprising, if you take into account this report from Flurry, which reported low Nexus One sales. In fact, there’s been a lot of talk today about how the Nexus One’s initial roll-out has been a flop.

Accident right before Twins concert, 2 dancers rushed to hospital

Twins will be holding their "Everyone Bounce Up" concert this weekend. Yesterday afternoon at 3pm, Gillian Chung, Charlene Choi and 12 other dancers were in Hong Kong Coliesum rehearsing. The group of dancers were on stage one climbing on another making a human pyramid, an extremely challenging stunt.

Although all the dancers are well trained, when the slingshot stage moved right, the dancers supporting the human pyramid on the lowest row lost balance. The human pyramid collapsed and the two female dancers at the very top fell head first 10 feet to the ground. At the time, the two female dancers were still awake, while the other staff immediately called the police. Soon after, two ambulances arrived at the scene and rushed the two girls to the hospital. One of the dancers was seriously injured and had to put on neck gear.

Twins are worried about their two dancers condition, however, their on a tight rehearsal schedule, Ah Gil and Ah Sa could only put away their grief and continue to practice. Their manager Mani Fok learned of the accident and rushed to HK Colisuem to see what happened. When Twins continued with their rehearsal, the staff were on standby during the whole process in case of another accident, Mani also watched closely to prevent any other accidents.

2PM unveils Without U MV teaser

When photos from the set of 2PM’s upcoming MV for their next album Don’t Stop Can’t Stop first came out, fans could not help but grow curious with how the boys could follow up the huge success they experienced with Heartbeat last year. JYP Entertainment and the boys continued to pique fans’ interest with the release of the haunting piano riff present on the group’s official website as well as the official comeback picture.

The teasing continues as today marks the official release of their MV teaser for their comeback track Without U. Just as the pictures and website page implied, the boys are returning with a dark and mature look and sound.

Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens: A-OK After American Idol Double Whammy

A positive outlook is such a powerful thing, doncha think? We suppose the guaranteed spot on tour and relief from staring at Simon's supple chest hairs every week also helps.

Last night was an emotional one for both Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia, as their American Idol dreams were promptly axed with a double elimination. Katie couldn't stop the sobbing and Andrew...well, he was more concerned for Lee's well-being, as you know they are totes bromantic.

But after talking with them today, we think these crazy kids are going to be just fine…

Bye bye, ‘Betty.’ See you on the big screen?

‘There may be a movie,’ actress who plays Hilda reveals to Latina.com

"Ugly Betty" may have aired its series finale on April 14, but actress Ana Ortiz, who plays Hilda, reveals that there may be a movie in the works.

Ugly Betty: The Movie”? It just might happen, according to actress Ana Ortiz.

The ABC show’s finale aired Wednesday night, but that doesn’t mean it’s over for good. Ortiz, who played Betty’s sister Hilda Suarez, said the series may have the big screen in its future.

Russell Brand accused of 'mindless idiocy' for joking that young musicians should take heroin (to save the music industry)

He heaped shame on the BBC with his vile antics alongside Jonathan Ross in the infamous Sachsgate affair.

And now so-called comedian Russell Brand has sparked further outrage by saying 'teenyboppers' should take heroin - in the hope it would ‘weed a lot of them out’ through drug overdoses.

Speaking in the new issue of US music magazine Rolling Stone, Brand - a reformed heroin addict himself - said exposing young stars to the killer drug would be his way of saving the music industry.

Brand - who is the proud patron of a drug and alcohol rehab centre - grotesquely joked it would be a ‘Darwinian’ way of improving music because many of the young stars would die.

It's (Really) Over Between Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt

After multiple conflicting reports about the status of Paris Hilton and boyfriend Doug Reinhardt’s relationship, it's official: They have split.

Hilton, 29, and Reinhardt, 24, broke up "weeks ago," her rep confirmed Thursday. "The relationship between Paris and Doug is over. She broke up with him more than two weeks ago."

The hotel heiress and Reinhardt had been dating for the past 14 months.

The couple ended their relationship once before, last June, but later reconciled.

Earlier this week, Hilton brushed aside buzz that she was getting cozy at a club with Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush, writing on Twitter, "Aside from being @ the same club, Reggie and I didn't even say hi to each other. I was there with my sister and friends. "

New iPhone in June, claims SaskTel CEO

Saskatchewan-based SaskTel isn't the biggest Canadian carrier out there -- it's very regional, along the lines of Cincinnati Bell for the US, in terms of subscribers -- but it's definitely a legit company, and its CEO Robert Watson has casually divulged some potentially major news to the Leader-Post. In a discussion on its 3G network set to launch July 1st, he had this to say: "The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they're going to put us on that. So we're quite excited about that." A new version, you say? We wouldn't be that surprised, frankly, since new iPhones have launched every summer for the past three years, but there's still been nary a peep yet from the folks in Cupertino. Is Watson mistaken or speaking way out of turn? The man would be in a position to conceivably have the inside scoop. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Update: Just to be clear, while SaskTel is currently CDMA, the 3G network it's rolling out is an iPhone-friendly HSPA.

iPad online use approaches Android, BlackBerry

Tiny usage share -- just 3 out of every 10,000 online devices -- but closes in on well-established mobile rivals

In its first 10 days, Apple's iPad has captured almost as much online usage share as the BlackBerry or Google's Android operating system, a Web metrics firm said today.

According to data from Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based NetApplications.com, the iPad's share has averaged 0.03% since April 3, the day Apple started selling the media tablet. Although that number is puny compared to the major operating systems -- Windows XP, for example, accounts for 64.5% of the total market -- it's within striking distance of longer-available rivals.

Google’s Plan To Give Chrome OS (And All Web-Enabled Devices) Universal Printer Support

Google’s Chrome OS is due to come out some time this year, and there are still plenty of questions about how people are going to use a computer that’s based entirely in the browser. One question that came up when the OS was first announced: how are people going to print from this thing? Google has just spelled out its solution on the Chromium Blog: The Cloud.

Google has announced a new project called Google Cloud Print which is setting out to “build a printing experience that enables any app (web, desktop, or mobile) on any device to print to any printer anywhere in the world.” In short, your computer or device will tell Cloud Print what it wants printed, and Cloud Print will then send the appropriate instructions to your printer. No printer drivers necessary.

Google is providing some initial documentation on the project here. The site says that any application, be it native or web based, will be able to use Cloud Print through APIs (which will allow you to submit print jobs and also check job status). There’s going to be a standard ‘web UI’ print dialog for interacting with the service from an application.

Of course, there’s still one big problem: getting Google Cloud Print to actually talk to your printer. Google has two solutions to this. In the long term, it is proposing that the industry adopt new open standards around cloud printing, and that manufacturers build new printer models to be ‘cloud aware’. In other words, the printer is connected to the web and includes software that knows how to communicate with Google’s servers.

Courtney Love Shoots Down Robert Pattinson Casting Rumor as "Stupid"

He hasn't given an interview or done much press in awhile, but Robert Pattinson is at the center of two new rumors.

The first is clearly ridiculous: sorry, Gossip Girl fans, but the Twilight Saga star did NOT hook up with Leighton Meester.

As for talk that Pattinson was Courtney Love's first choice to play Kurt Cobain in a movie about the late rocker, the former Hole singer has halted this casting possibility in its track.

"Isn't that so stupid, who would cast him? That's just wrong, no offense [to Pattinson]," Love told The Canadian Press. "I watched the Twilight stuff very, very recently and I get it, it resonates with the teenage girl in me, I understand epic love of that nature; I write about it all the time. But isn't that silly?"

Love added that she'll never watch any biopic about Cobain because it would be too painful, but she did list a couple actors she could see in the role: James McAvoy and Ryan Gosling.

Steven Seagal Made Jenny McCarthy Cry, Told Her to Strip at Audition

A bundle of sexual assault allegations against Steven Seagal are revealing what may be a long-term pattern of inappropriateness. CBS Crimesider has dug up a 1998 interview with Jenny McCarthy -- who says that during a casting call for 'Under Siege 2,' she was asked to strip and threatened not to tell anyone.

"I go inside Seagal's office, and he's by himself and says, 'Sit on my couch," McCarthy told Movieline magazine in '98. "Then he said, 'Take off your dress.' I just started crying and said, 'Rent my Playboy video, you a*****e!' and ran out to the car."

CBS also reports in 1998, nine women told Penthouse magazine about their experiences of Seagal sexually harassing them. Yikes.

News recently broke that Seagal's reality series, 'Steven Seagal Lawman,' will be shelved as a result of the scandal.

Nokia N8 wasn’t announced on April 13 (as rumored), and it looks like its release will be delayed.

According to GSM Arena, Nokia initially planned to unveil the new Nseries handset in May. However, for some unknown reasons, the launch date has been pushed back to mid-July. Since Nokia N8 should run Symbian^3, this might have something do to with the fact that the new OS is not yet ready to hit the market.

Another interesting piece of info is that the N8 (Nokia’s first 12MP camera phone) might be launched in he UK via O2.

Erika Sawajiri continues comeback with glossy magazine spread

Actress Erika Sawajiri, 24, is continuing her comeback in Japan’s entertainment world by appearing on the cover of the May issue of GLAMOROUS to mark the 5th anniversary of the magazine.

In a glossy 24-page inside spread, Sawajiri speaks candidly about her attitude toward the media and rumors of her drug use.

Sawajiri, once wildly popular, fell out of favor in 2007 due to problematic behavior. In a well-publicized incident, she was rude to people around her during a film promotion event, an incident which discouraged the industry from hiring her.

Sawajiri took a leave of absence from her former production company, Oscar Promotions, for eight months beginning in January 2009 after getting married. She said she wanted to study abroad in London.

Shortly after, rumors started circulating that Sawajiri may have been experimenting with drugs. Oscar Promotions dropped her last September for reasons that remain unclear. She then showed up in Spain.

The Backstreet Boys Want To Help Lady Gaga Balance Her Checkbook

The Backstreet Boys know a thing or two about depleted finances. That’s why the ’90s boy band wants to mentor singing sensation Lady Gaga on the business of budgeting her millions so she doesn’t make the same mistakes they did when they first made it big.

The boy band was touring in New Zealand at the same time as the “Paparazzi” singer when they learned that the star often uses her personal cash to finance the elaborate sets and head-turning costumes that have become her calling card.

Bad move, says BSB.

Insider: Kate Hudson Got a Boob Job

"I have small breasts, obviously," Kate Hudson proudly proclaimed at the 2002 Golden Globes. "It's nice to be able to wear a plunging neckline and have it be elegant."

Looks like Hudson had a change of heart. An insider says in the new issue of Us Weekly that a plastic surgeon performed a small breast augmentation on the actress, 31, in late March. And the mom to son Ryder, 6, looked noticeably fuller on top while poolside in Miami on April 9.

Explains another source, "Kate makes jokes about her boobs, but her chest has always been one of her biggest insecurities."

Hudson's rep did not return requests for comment.

Meet 'Pirates of the Caribbean's' newest ingenue: Astrid Berges-Frisbey

Disney has cast one of France’s most in-demand young stars, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, in the key role of Syrena for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Syrena, according to Pirates’ press notes, is a “beautiful and alluring young mermaid” who will play opposite Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. Few plot details have been given for this latest movie, though we know that Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom’s characters Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner will not be back for the new iteration directed by Chicago helmer Rob Marshall.

Berges-Frisbey, 23, is a French model and actress, who has appeared in French films La Premiere Etoile and Un Barrage Contre le Pacifique and the French stage production of Peter Shaffer’s Equus. The movie is set to begin filming in June on location in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles. It’s slated to open on May 20, 2011.

Verizon’s HTC Droid Incredible to cost $599 at Best Buy

We know everything there is to know about Verizon’s Droid Incredible by HTC, save for its price.

Well, a couple of Best Buy inventory screenshots appeared at Phandroid suggest that the Incredible will retail for $599 – which means Verizon could sell it for not more than $200 on contract.

Said inventory screenshots mention that the Droid Incredible should be available at Best Buy starting April 25, but this must be a mistake, since Verizon itself will not offer the smartphone before April 29.

Over one million Opera Mini downloads already

Apple approving Opera Mini for iPhone was perhaps the most surprising event of the week, and it comes as little surprise that owners of the smartphone have been downloading it in their droves. After leaping to the number one download spot in the 22 featured Apple Stores on the company’s site, Opera have just announced that the browser was downloaded more than one million times in its first day of availability in each market.

In fact, Opera reckon the browser has been downloaded to 1,024,380 Apple devices – likely including not only the iPhone but the iPod touch and iPad too – though of course there’s no way of telling how many people continue to use it in preference to the native Safari browser. A brief scan through the App Store reviews suggests that, while people appreciate the extra turn of speed Opera Mini delivers – thanks to the company’s intermediary servers – there are ongoing issues with how some sites actually render.

DWA to convert three 'Shrek' films to 3D

Katzenberg tells NAB the movies will be released on Blu-ray

As Dreamworks Animation prepares for the May 21 release of "Shrek Forever After," the animation studio is in the process of converting the first three movies in the phenomenally successful franchise to the stereo format for a 3D Blu-ray Disc release.

On Wednesday at the NAB convention, DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said: "Our movies exist in digital files to begin with. To go back and rebuild to a quality 3D experience is not inexpensive, but we are about to achieve a pretty high quality result."

For animated films like "Shrek," the 3D process involves going back to files and rendering out another eye. The makers of the "Shrek" films are working in close collaboration with the DWA team that is involved in the stereo process.

"I think our product will be used to showcase what 3D in the home can offer in terms of the highest quality possible experience," Katzenberg said of the home entertainment release plan.

Obama Wants Microsoft To Make a Video Game About US Budget

Showing yet again that the prez is down with the kids, Obama's pitched Steve Ballmer the idea of creating a video game...about the US budget. His "down with the kids" campaign is a little rusty, it appears.

Either Obama wants to show everyone just how hard his job is, managing the country's finances, or he really does think that balancing the books is good fodder for a video game. Erskine Bowles, from Obama's administration, says that the game "would enable anyone with a computer to take a stab at balancing the budget" and would definitely "go viral."

I'm sure we can all think of several better presidential chores that should be turned into a game.

Francis appeared calm in court, when the magistrate read the case, he answered before he/she was done: "I plead guilty". The magistrate then said: "Let me finish first." The case spanned for about 20 minutes, in the end the court sentenced Francis a fine of HK$10,000 and will have a criminal record. The magistrate continued and said that as an artist, Francis should control his temperment and personal emotions. His actions were also said to be a foolish act: "learn your lesson, do not be reckless!" Fortunately there was a change in the alleged charges otherwise, Francis could have been sentenced for imprisonment. However, there was not enough evidence that could prove he was impulsive to commit the crime, so a lighter sentence was given.
