Chris Brown Cries During Michael Jackson Tribute 2010 BET Awards

Chris Brown paid a tearful tribute to his idol, music icon Michael Jackson, with an emotional performance at the 2010 BET Awards on Sunday night. The controversial star sang and danced his way through a 7-minute medley of the late King of Pop’s hits at the urban awards show. Brown, 21, broke down in tears while performing Jackson’s 1987 anthem “Man in the Mirror,” drawing a standing ovation from the mesmerized audience at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Kanye West's big comeback performance on the BET Awards: How did he do?

Kanye West just finished performing his new single “Power” to open the 2010 BET Awards. Even more than usual, all eyes were on Mr. West tonight: This was his first major televised appearance since that ill-fated open mic moment during the MTV Video Music Awards last September. So how did he do?

The man definitely still knows how to make an entrance. Dramatically backlit, West stood on top of a periodically erupting volcano set piece with images of majestic mountain peaks projected behind him. Shades and shadows hid most of his facial expressions, so all we could see was his stylish red suit and enormous chain. But that body language was all Kanye. Striking a defiant pose, he began bellowing out the thoroughly unapologetic lyrics to “Power.”

For some reason, the network kept bleeping those lyrics, but it sounded as if he was already self-censoring all the profanities from the song. (They inexplicably muted Dwele’s recorded backing vocals, too.) That’s because Kanye is a consummate professional. If he left viewers thinking he’s shouting mad, ready to take on the whole world at once, that’s exactly the impression he wanted to leave. “Power” is an angry, conflicted, brilliant song. As I’ve said before, it’s a very unconventional choice for a comeback single. And tonight, Kanye West gave it a masterful rendition that pulled no punches.

Toy Story 3 Still Winner at Weekend Box Office

Knight and Day, Tom Cruise's so-called comeback teamup with Cameron Diaz, debuted in third place at the weekend box office, with a two-star $20.5 million Friday-Sunday gross, per estimates.

The action-thriller was outgunned by the still-towering Toy Story 3 ($59 million) and Adam Sandler's latest Adam Sandler hit, Grown Ups ($41 million).

The bottom line for Cruise?

Performance-wise, Knight and Day actually wasn't a step back. It opened about as big, or not, as Cruise's last movie—and last so-called comeback vehicle, Valkyrie. And that 2008 Nazi thriller, which also got buried in its debut, wound up a moneymaker.

Reputation-wise, though, Knight and Day's a potential killer. It wasn't Valkyrie, with its period setting, its eyepatch and its Nazis. It was a $100 million-plus summer movie with action, explosions and Diaz.

"People had such high expectations for this film," Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com, said today.

But Dergarabedian, for one, thinks the expecations were misplaced.

Clash of the Titans: The Battle To Become The Mobile Search Leader

Mobile search is still one of the big unclaimed prizes on the mobile web. Everyone from Google and Yahoo to Apple is going after it, but Microsoft’s Bing may stealthily become the king of the castle by aggressively promoting Bing through mobile apps. Let’s look at each player’s mobile search strategy.

Apple: In The Driver’s Seat

During the Apple keynote in April, Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone 4.0, iAd and a few other features even he didn’t seem too excited about. Out of the many mediocre features, Mr. Jobs happened to squeeze in a declaration that, “ On mobile, search hasn’t happened. People aren’t searching on their phones.” During the keynote at WWDC this month, Mr. Jobs declared that iPhone 4 users would have the opportunity to select their search engine from among Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Out of the three, Bing got a special endorsement from Mr. Jobs.

Is Mr. Jobs trying to blindside the other players in this space by making them think he is not concerned about search? I’m sure all of the search traffic he is sending to Google is driving him nuts. Meanwhile, Google has happily—and quite beautifully—optimized their search results page on the iPhone to make it extremely convenient for local searches by incorporating phone numbers, maps and more within the Safari window.

Microsoft Is Still Huge

Sure, Microsoft may have given away its lead and legacy in mobile and probably jumped into too many hyper-competitive sectors, but they still have the widest reach in technology. And they're still pretty damn successful.

In recent years, Microsoft may be a step or two behind, but they're relevant in nearly every sector. And with Office 2010, a new Xbox 360, Kinect, and perhaps most importantly, Windows Phone 7, all receiving substantial upgrades this year, 2010 is shaping up to be absolutely huge for them. And that's coming off a 2009 where Windows 7, Bing and the Zune HD were introduced. We're just so used to Microsoft being around that we sort of take them for granted for all the good that they do.

So Microsoft revealed some numbers to serve as a reminder:

Super Junior’s 4th repackaged album released!

Finally after waiting for what might have seemed to be a long time, Super Junior’s 4th repackaged album was officially released today in stores and on various music websites!

As usual, the boys never fail to disappoint, and with the release of these four tracks, this only further proves it. While Shake It Up! features a hip song with some catchy beats, the other two (All My Heart & A Short Journey) feature soft mellow beats which show off the boy’s amazing vocals.

Ex-Super Junior member Han Geng becomes Show Luo's pupil

Ex-Super Junior member Han Geng 韩庚, who made headlines with his abrupt departure from the hugely popular Korean boy band, will release his new album titled "Geng's Heart 庚心" next month on July 27th. The new album symbolizes the start of a new music path for Han Geng. Production costs for the new album hovered at around $20 million, which included the costs for recording the upcoming album's music in Taiwan, mainland China, and the United States, as well as filming for an MV on location in New Zealand.

The distribution for Han Geng's upcoming album will be handled by music label Gold Typhoon, which is also home to big-name Taiwanese music artists such as David Tao, Elva Hsiao, and Cyndi Wang. Furthermore, Han Geng became a pupil to fellow Gold Typhoon music labelmate and good friend Show Luo.

Promotions in Taiwan on August

Han Geng was recently selected as the ambassador for a Great Wall of China conservation advocate group, where he also held a press conference at the Great Wall regarding his honorable role. At the location of the press conference, five thousand balloons inscribed with the Chinese character 'Geng 庚' were released into the sky to commemorate the event.

Beaming America Ferrera proudly shows off her huge diamond engagement ring in Edinburgh

She is in Edinburgh for the International Film Festival.

But America Ferrera appears to be more interested in showing off her brand new diamond engagement ring than watching any movies.

The Ugly Betty star, who recently got engaged to boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams, looked chic in a black dress as she left her hotel in the Scottish city yesterday for the festival's closing ceremony.

And regardless of her black clutch bag and peeptoe heels, the best accessory in America's outfit was the huge sparkler on her ring finger.

Will.i.am: Black Eyed Peas Are "Never Breaking Up"

Will.I.Am is shutting down rumors that the Black Eyed Peas have reached The E.N.D.

In spite of recent speculation that Fergie is gearing up to leave the group, Will headed to Twitter to dispel recent stories of B.E.P. break-ups and beefs.

"Don't believe gossip about Fergie leaving the group (we are never breaking up) it's all lies!!!," Will tweeted Saturday.

Fergie has yet to respond to the rumors, but the hitmaking group remains hugely successful. In May, it was announced that the Black Eyed Peas's "I Gotta Feeling" was the best-selling digital song of all time.

Motorola Charm coming to T-Mobile with 'enhanced' Android 2.1 Motoblur? Update promised for CLIQ and CLIQ XT?

Usual rules apply -- we can't independently confirm this at the moment -- but a tipster has sent us what appears to be T-Mobile training materials for an upcoming Motoblur-infused candybar smartphone, the Motorola Charm. Only this Motoblur is allegedly powered by Android 2.1 and boasts the same scalable widgets as we saw on Droid X, in addition to improved Facebook / Twitter integration (hello, Like and Retweet) and the usual Eclair refinements. As far as the hardware is concerned, there isn't much to glean from it at this point, aside from a textured QWERTY keyboard reminiscent of the CLIQ and a "camera" button denoting some form of memory-capturing capabilities. Speaking of which, the materials mention that the enhanced Motoblur is heading to CLIQ and CLIQ XT. Let us bookend this entire post with another reminder that none of this is confirmed, but we do know more than a few T-Mobile users who would love to get their mitts on a candybar Android.

Rumor: Google Rolling Out "Google Me" Their Facebook Killer, Very Soon

Well this is kinda wacky. Citing a "very credible source," Digg founder Kevin Rose tweeted that Google is readying "Google Me," a social service intended to go toe-to-toe (face-to-face?) with Facebook. It's like Google stalking, but official, and thus marginally less creepy!

Google Buzz, their most recent foray into social networking, was not a resounding success (read: total privacy shitshow) and I imagine there's some lingering skepticism about Google's ability to actually keep all of its users information on lockdown.

Then again, they already know just about everything there is to know about you, so maybe it'd be easier to forget Facebook altogether and just click a button in Gmail that says, "Yes! Cull your extensive records to make a "Google Me" profile in my best image, selectively including the photographs and personal interests likeliest to get me laid." Kidding, kidding, I promise that's not what I'm all about. Seriously! Google me!

How Robert Pattinson Is Dealing With His Fame

Being the object of thousands of women's affection, the leading man in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and the more ebullient half of a very famous couple is taxing. So taxing that maybe Robert Pattinson is, dare we say, a little over it. And we can't even fault him for it.

"He is an actor in a film that became much more than he expected. His life is no longer his own simply because of a job he took. Every aspect of his life is under scrutiny, and his fans are ravenous. They want to know everything about him. He has zero privacy and as with most suddenly famous actors, fame is not what he expected," explains psych expert and 'Cult of Celebrity' author Cooper Lawrence. "Fame is its own life and it has nothing to do with acting. Not everyone can or should handle it. Some people want to live a private life too. He doesn't get to."

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Rob was reluctant to even chat 'Twilight' (even though that's what reporter Brooks Barnes had come to do) and came across as quite obviously burnt out on the series.

Michael Jackson Glove Sells for $190K

Bidders from around the world bought up Michael Jackson memorabilia worth nearly $1 million at an auction on the anniversary of his death, including $190,000 for the Swarovski-crystal-studded glove he wore on his 1984 Victory Tour.

The bidding that began Friday on more than 200 items was "unlike anything we've ever experienced," said Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions, which ran the auction at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

Some items, like the glove, brought 10 times more than their estimated value, he said.

"It just shows you Michael Jackson is the most sought after and most collectible celebrity of all time. It was just phenomenal," Julien told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Mena Suvari Married Simone Sestito In Weekend Wedding Ceremony

American Beauty stunner Mena Suvari married concert producer Simone Sestito in a ceremony in Italy Saturday.

Mena, 31, accepted Sestito’s proposal during a Jamaican vacation two years ago. The couple exchanged vows in a private church in Vatican City followed by a reception for their closest friends and family.

Samsung Epic 4G Official for Sprint

That rumored Galaxy S Pro is very real and very official for Sprint this evening, 'cept it's not actually called the Galaxy S Pro -- instead, it'll be known as the Epic 4G when it comes to market "in the coming months." Like the EVO 4G before it, the Epic 4G sort of blows everything out of the water on paper: 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording paired with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1GHz Hummingbird core. Oh, and of course let's not forget those EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX radios, the latter of which will earn you theoretical downlink speeds in excess of 10Mbps -- speeds that will work nicely with the phone's five-device mobile hotspot support (three devices fewer than the EVO 4G, interestingly).

Samsung Vibrant is official on T-Mobile, coming July 21 for $200

When it rains, it pours, ladies and gentlemen -- and tonight, it's pouring high-end Android phones from Samsung. Hot on the heels of the Epic 4G for Sprint and a dash of preliminary official info on T-Mobile's flavor of the Galaxy S, the Vibrant is now 100 percent official with a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and 4-inch Super AMOLED display. Though the physical design of the phone is unique to T-Mobile -- just as all North American versions of the Galaxy S are -- the specs should be ringing a bell by now, and the trend continues through to the 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture and Samsung-skinned build of Android. It launches on July 21 for $199.99 on a two-year contract, though interested folks will be able to pre-order in Radio Shack locations starting July 1 for $50 (which gets returned to you in the form of a gift card). Oh, and don't worry, entertainment buffs: you will definitely get both The Sims 3 Collector's Edition and a little motion picture called Avatar pre-installed on a 2GB microSD card. Bonus!

Yoon Eun Hye and Park Yong Ha to star in new drama Love Song

Actress Yoon Eun Hye has been recruited to play the main female role in the future drama Love Song (unofficial title).

Love Song will be a drama version of the original 1996 Chinese movie (甛蜜蜜/ tianmimi), and Hallyu star Park Yong Ha will be playing the main male character.

Yoon Eun Hye’s character is planned to be Yoo Chae Hwa, a Korean woman diligently living in China who also has the tendency of tricking people.

With the top-notch casts – Yoon Eun Hye and Park Yong Ha – and infamous story writer Oh Soo Yun, who also wrote the story line for Winter Sonata and Autumn Story, Love Song is becoming anticipated as another upcoming Hallyu drama.

Kwak Hyun Hwa reveals Psycho MV

After several teasers of body parts and a teaser, GnG Production has now released the Psycho MV for their rookie singer, Kwak Hyun Hwa on June 28th.

Not as revealing as her teasers, but Kwak Hyun Hwa still shows her sexy moves in this MV.

'Toy Story 3' beats 'Grown Ups' at box office

In a clash of Hollywood veterans, Adam Sandler proved too much for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, but none were a match for the smallest stars of the box office, Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

Toy Story 3 churned through the competition this weekend, beating Sandler's comedy Grown Ups and the Cruise-Diaz action romance Knight and Day with a second-week haul of $69 million, according to studio estimates.

In 10 days, Story has done $226.6 million. It crossed the $200 million mark in eight days. Finding Nemo, another Pixar animated film, took 20 days.

"It's so gratifying to see this come full circle," Disney distribution chief Chuck Viane says of the final chapter of the talking toys trilogy. "For every installment, the storytelling quality was there, and it's great to see people responding to it. Especially considering the competition we had."

While Toy Story's hold over theaters was expected, analysts were more interested in the showdown between Sandler and Cruise, two stars whose box office clout has waned over the years. Still, industry analysts predicted a close race between the two, as both were back in their elements: Sandler with low-brow comedy, Cruise with wild gunplay and toothpaste commercial grins.

White iPhone 4: early DIY edition, with a touch of black

Sorry, we couldn't wait -- having spent 11 hours on the streets waiting for the iPhone 4, it's only natural to give our precious new toy some extra special care. With the help of iFixit's teardown guide, we decided to take the plunge with our steaming hot Chinese delivery -- a white front cover (with a shiny proximity sensor area above the earpiece), a white back cover (with "XXXXX" marked as the model number, ergo a prototype), and a Retina Display unit. Alas, there weren't any white buttons in stock at the time, but let's pretend this black-and-white combo is the new cool. Read on to find out how the surgery went.

Hacked N900 blazes through Froyo

While the various and sundry Android manufacturers are all scrambling (or casually strolling) toward official Android 2.2 updates for their manifold handsets, someone managed to get Google's Froyo running on the Nokia N900. Turns out, the two are a pretty great pair, with some super speedy browsing (like, really fast) and decent hardware support outside of an unfortunate lack of memory card support. Hit up the video after the break to see it in action, the browser starts kicking around the 4:45 mark.

iPhone 4 gets preliminary 'userland' jailbreak, real freedom still forthcoming

The most Twitter-vocal iPhone Dev Team member, Mr. MuscleNerd himself, has just posted a screenshot from a jailbroken iPhone 4. Before you get too excited, however, you should know that this is just a preliminary "userland" jailbreak, which means it uses Apple software to happen, and it's not of a low enough level to really be worth releasing, since it's easy for Apple to patch. Instead it's an important step toward a real, low-level jailbreak that can actually be released. We'd feign pins and needles if this community wasn't so gosh darned amazing at hacking these phones: we're sure that real jailbreak will be along shortly.

Former AKB48 member turns to AV

Reports have spread that former AKB48 member Rina Nakanishi (22) is entering the world of AV. It started with a full nude gravure appearance in the most recent issue of FRIDAY and will continue with her first adult DVD in August.

Nakanishi was one of the first generation members of AKB48, but she graduated from the group in November 2008. On June 6, 2010, she wrote in her official fan club blog that she was returning to her hometown in Oita, seemingly to take a break and to refresh herself. However, it appears that she is really just undergoing an image change, moving into the adult industry under the stage name "Rico Yamaguchi."
