"Kick-Ass" Can't Kick Dragon off the Top Box Office

So as to not make Hit-Girl angry, we'll start off by noting Box Office Mojo declared Kick-Ass the biggest-opening superhero comedy ever.

Other than that… Well… Er…

The Comic-Con phenom fell way short of expectations, grossing an estimated $19.8 million, and fell victim to a stunning upset in the weekend box-office standings by the month-old How to Train Your Dragon ($20 million). So what happened?

"Couple factors at play: R-rating, no bonafide stars," Exhibitor Relations' Jeff Bock said today in an email, "but that still doesn't change the fact that people went absolutely nuts at advance screenings. I know, I was at one."

A (Katy) Perry Cool Surprise for Taylor Swift, Concert Goers

Taylor Swift took to the Staples Center stage on Thursday night and sang a number of her hit singles.

That would have been enough for the thousands of fans in attendance, of course. But the crowd - and Taylor herself - got a surprise when Katy Perry popped out and sung "Hot N' Cold" with the young Grammy Award-winner.

Check out the duet below:

Iphone 4G Images Leaked, No, it's not

Engadget posted photos of the what was said to possibly be an early prototype / actual version of the next generation iPhone last night, and while we assumed their story was legit, we figured the unit was just totally janky and most likely a software testing mule. MacRumors now confirms that the device in question is just a Japanese knock off.

Super Junior member expresses desire to star in Pinoy teleserye

Having seen the mob that welcomed his group right at NAIA and the thousands of screaming fans who trooped to the Big Dome to watch them perform, the acknowledged most popular member of bigtime Korean act Super Junior must have found the prospect of appearing in a Philippine teleserye as a next best move.

Both the media and the boy band's supporters present during a presscon at EDSA Plaza Hotel last Saturday reacted in cheerful agreement.

“I wish to do a TV drama in the Philippines,” said Donghae who is arguably the most famous among the 13-member flagship group of the current K-pop (Korean pop) fever.

'American Idol': What should the Top 7 sing for 'Inspirational Songs' week?

This just in from the suits at American Idol: Enigma’s “Return to Innocence” is officially an “inspirational song.” So is “Dream Weaver” (note the word “dream” in the title). As is “Livin’ on a Prayer.” (Gina works the diner all day, yo!) In other words, we’ve got to accept that there are some wiggity wack jams on the list of songs available to the season 9 top 7 for Idol Gives Back week (with guest mentor Alicia Keys). But all is not lost. I’ve perused the full list of 77 ditties, and there were enough hidden gems — albeit not a whole lot of good stuff from the current decade — for me to create a dream set list (of songs not recorded by previous Idol champs, which is a recipe for #fail). Check out the “Inspirational Songs” list for yourself over at mjsbigblog, then make your own suggestions in the comments section.

Taylor Swift Kicks Cory Monteith's Behind at Bowling

She may be county music's sweetheart, but Taylor Swift is one tough cookie when she hits the lanes, says Glee star Cory Monteith.

Monteith and the singer met up recently at a group-bowling outing in L.A., and he says she "kicked my ass."

"I'm not gonna deny this. I was just an uncoordinated mess that day and I couldn't put the ball into the pins. I couldn't do it. It was bad," Monteith tells CMT Radio Live's Cody Alan. "She just brought the A-game. And I brought the B-game."

Despite the alley-whoopin', Monteith calls Swift "a great friend of mine," and when prodded on whether he thinks the singer is a "10," he laughed and said simply, "She's pretty fantastic."

The full interview with Monteith will air April 21 on CMT Radio Live with Cody Alan, which broadcasts weeknights from 7:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. ET.

Pics of iPhone 4G Leak out: Is This It?

Is this the iPhone 4G (or iPhone HD)? There's no way to tell for sure, but these photos which made their way into our hands certainly do a convincing job of making us think that's very much the case. Apparently the phone was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside of an iPhone 3G case. Right now we don't have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn't booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It's not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it's certainly a compelling design, no matter how you look at it.

There may be a chance to get some more face-time with the handset, but we wanted to get these photos to you guys ASAP. Stay tuned, we're working on more details as we type -- for now, enjoy the gallery below!

Microsoft changes naughty 'sexting' Kin ad, camera to be used for clothed chests only

As a card-carrying member of the Upload Generation, your Kin is about a lot of things: chilling with your peeps and BFFs, taking pictures and video of all of life's most awesome moments, keeping tabs on your MySpace pals, and documenting the fascinating story of your nipples without a pesky American Apparel V-neck getting in the way. Or wait... maybe not? Microsoft has just pulled a Kin ad briefly featuring a young gentleman snapping shots of his PG-rated parts underneath his t-shirt in response to Consumer Reports' concerns that the move encourages "sexting" -- a growing problem amongst the world's technologically-savvy (and hormone-riddled) youth -- saying that it "takes the issue of sexting very seriously and it was never our intent to promote it in any way." It looks like Microsoft has kept the commercial around on the Kin site and just removed the offending portion -- it was only about a second long -- so hanging out in underground speakeasies with fake hipsters is still okay, apparently.

Daniel Ng and Lisa S secretly got married in South Africa

Since Andy Lau, Miriam Yeung and Leon Lai were found out that they secretly got married abroad, the trend of getting married in secret seem popular in the entertainment world these days. Recently Charlene Choi and Ronald Cheng were only found out they had been married for 3 years had it not been for their divorce proceedings. The other day, Lisa S and Daniel Ng told the media that they would announce to the media if they get married. Two days later, a magazine reported the two in fact were married in South Africa.

They arranged the wedding two to three months ago, and only invited about 30 people to their wedding including both parents, relatives and close friends. Terence Yin and Ana R were the only two guests from the entertainment circle. The wedding ceremony lasted two and half hours. Reporter asked why did they choose to marry in a forest? I feel love, so pure, so warm, very intense and strong. They sang and smiled, I was totally moved."

TVB clarifies that they did not block off Ekin Cheng

Yesterday Ekin Cheng exposed that TVB refused to help his new film "Once A Gangster" do promotions because he's part of the Big 4 record companies. TVB Foreign Affairs Director (Tsang Sing Ming) officially clarified yesterday that TVB never blocked off Ekin Cheng and has already made arrangements for both Ekin and Jordan Chan to appear on the "Fan and Kam" interview. He expressed that although Ekin is a Sony contracted singer, but he also has a contract with TVB. He started off his career from TVB training class and is apart of TVB. There is no damage to his relationship with TVB, there must be a misunderstanding. Tomorrow Ekin and Jordan will be on the "Fan and Kam" interview, there is no problem for them to appear as an artist.

'Kick-Ass' underwhelms; box office likely to be off 10 percent from last year

Call it a solid, if not quite kick-ass, start to its weekend.

Lionsgate opened the Matthew Vaughn-helmed comic actioner "Kick-Ass" -- featuring a young cast complemented by an engagingly goofy Nicolas Cage -- with an estimated $7.6 million in domestic boxoffice on Friday. The chart-topping sum included roughly $1 million in coin from about 1,500 screens programming the pic at 10 p.m. Thursday and a similar number of midnight Thursday performances.

The sturdy start to the frame should get the R-rated pic to about $20 million through Sunday. A $50 million production, "Kick-Ass" was acquired by Lionsgate for North American distribution for just mid-teen millions.

Starring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence, Sony's R-rated comedy "Death at a Funeral" opened in second place among the daily grossers with $5.5 million. That's about the launch expected for a film projected to land in the teen millions through its first three days.

Among notable holdovers, Fox's PG-13 comedy "Date Night" -- starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey – rang up a third-best $5.5 million on the cusp of its sophomore session, yielding $37.4 million in cumulative b.o.
