So as to not make Hit-Girl angry, we'll start off by noting Box Office Mojo declared Kick-Ass the biggest-opening superhero comedy ever.
Other than that… Well… Er…
The Comic-Con phenom fell way short of expectations, grossing an estimated $19.8 million, and fell victim to a stunning upset in the weekend box-office standings by the month-old How to Train Your Dragon ($20 million). So what happened?
"Couple factors at play: R-rating, no bonafide stars," Exhibitor Relations' Jeff Bock said today in an email, "but that still doesn't change the fact that people went absolutely nuts at advance screenings. I know, I was at one."

Taylor Swift took to the Staples Center stage on Thursday night and sang a number of her hit singles.
That would have been enough for the thousands of fans in attendance, of course. But the crowd - and Taylor herself - got a surprise when Katy Perry popped out and sung "Hot N' Cold" with the young Grammy Award-winner.
Check out the duet below:
We know that for many of you April 29th can’t come soon enough, so here’s a quick YouTube video overview of the HTC Droid Incredible to tide you over. Shot the other day during the 99% Conference in New York City, the video is a wee bit out of focus, but still manages to give you a good look at some of the features and overall speed of the very well-equipped smartphone. We’ve got a feeling this is just the first of many videos we’ll see of the Droid Incredible before it officially goes on sale, but for now, hit the jump to check out the best we’ve got.

Engadget posted photos of the what was said to possibly be an early prototype / actual version of the next generation iPhone last night, and while we assumed their story was legit, we figured the unit was just totally janky and most likely a software testing mule. MacRumors now confirms that the device in question is just a Japanese knock off.

This just in from the suits at American Idol: Enigma’s “Return to Innocence” is officially an “inspirational song.” So is “Dream Weaver” (note the word “dream” in the title). As is “Livin’ on a Prayer.” (Gina works the diner all day, yo!) In other words, we’ve got to accept that there are some wiggity wack jams on the list of songs available to the season 9 top 7 for Idol Gives Back week (with guest mentor Alicia Keys). But all is not lost. I’ve perused the full list of 77 ditties, and there were enough hidden gems — albeit not a whole lot of good stuff from the current decade — for me to create a dream set list (of songs not recorded by previous Idol champs, which is a recipe for #fail). Check out the “Inspirational Songs” list for yourself over at mjsbigblog, then make your own suggestions in the comments section.

Is this the iPhone 4G (or iPhone HD)? There's no way to tell for sure, but these photos which made their way into our hands certainly do a convincing job of making us think that's very much the case. Apparently the phone was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside of an iPhone 3G case. Right now we don't have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn't booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It's not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it's certainly a compelling design, no matter how you look at it.
There may be a chance to get some more face-time with the handset, but we wanted to get these photos to you guys ASAP. Stay tuned, we're working on more details as we type -- for now, enjoy the gallery below!

Sammi Cheng and ex-boyfriend Andy Hui were on the same stage again the day before yesterday, performing a duet for an event in Shanghai. Sammi and Big Four (Andy, Dicky, William, and Edmond) were the special guests for the event – they performed a few songs separately, but then, when Sammi sang <<信者得愛>>, Big Four got back on stage and performed the Rap part of the song; Andy and Sammi ended up singing certain parts of the song together, which became the focal point of the event.
During the event, Big Four appeared on stage first to sing a few songs; later on, it was Sammi’s turn to appear on stage as the ‘grand finale’ performer. After singing a few of her biggest hits, Sammi launched into her new song <<信者得愛>>, at which point Big Four came on stage and performed with her. Sammi indicated that she has not performed in mainland China in a long time, therefore, she hopes that this year, she will have more opportunity to perform in the mainland.

After being confirmed to play the main actor in Hype Nation, Art of Movement’s Jay Park just keeps on surprising us! It has been revealed that Jay Park, Dumbfoundead, and Kollaboration 2010’s winner Clara Chung will be collaborating for a new track.
Jay Park has been subscribed to Dumbfoundead ever since he opened his YouTube channel, which isn’t too surprising considering Dumbfoundead is arguably one of the best freestyle rappers out there. It’s great to see the two now working together. Add the angelic voice of Clara Chung and you’ve got yourself one hell of a track!

Call it a solid, if not quite kick-ass, start to its weekend.
Lionsgate opened the Matthew Vaughn-helmed comic actioner "Kick-Ass" -- featuring a young cast complemented by an engagingly goofy Nicolas Cage -- with an estimated $7.6 million in domestic boxoffice on Friday. The chart-topping sum included roughly $1 million in coin from about 1,500 screens programming the pic at 10 p.m. Thursday and a similar number of midnight Thursday performances.
The sturdy start to the frame should get the R-rated pic to about $20 million through Sunday. A $50 million production, "Kick-Ass" was acquired by Lionsgate for North American distribution for just mid-teen millions.
Starring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence, Sony's R-rated comedy "Death at a Funeral" opened in second place among the daily grossers with $5.5 million. That's about the launch expected for a film projected to land in the teen millions through its first three days.
Among notable holdovers, Fox's PG-13 comedy "Date Night" -- starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey – rang up a third-best $5.5 million on the cusp of its sophomore session, yielding $37.4 million in cumulative b.o.
