Who will win the Oscars?

The 82nd Academy Awards bring many, many unanswered questions.

Will double the hosts and double the nominees add up to double the fun and ratings?

We'll find out at 5 p.m. Sunday on ABC when the 82nd annual Academy Awards air live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

To bolster sagging ratings, the three-hour-plus telecast boasts two hosts -- the wild and crazy Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, who just starred as rivals for Meryl Streep's heart in "It's Complicated." Martin has hosted the Academy Awards before and was a funny, cerebral, emcee. And Baldwin has found his niche on NBC's comedy "30 Rock," earning numerous Emmys and other awards for his riotous turn as the head of the Peacock network.

Gabourey Sidibe: From $2 a Day to Independent Spirit Awards Win

Who knew how far $2 could go? Gabourey Sidibe's mom, who used to pay her daughter that amount each day to attend school, does now.

"I saved up my money for a week so I could see Welcome to the Dollhouse," Sidibe, the Independent Spirit Awards' best female lead winner, said in her beaming acceptance speech Friday night. She excitedly explained that it was the first film that made her think: "I could do that." A notion that gave birth to her own independent spirit and an Oscar-nominated performance in her first film, Precious.

Her costar Mo'Nique credited their "low-budget, independent film's" leaders for teaching her how to bring her A-game and score yet another trophy this awards season for best supporting female.

But it wasn't all about the best feature film of the year, Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. Crazy Heart star Jeff Bridges continued his winning streak for best male lead, exclaiming to his wife that his Spirit award trophy would "really tie the room together!"

Why iPad is the 'Children's Toy of the Year'

Your kids will pester you for an iPad. Will you get them one? I believe you will.

Have you ever seen a 4-year-old play with an iPhone? It's actually kind of shocking. Kids take to the iPhone's multi-touch user interface like they do trucks or dolls. They instinctively know that the iPhone is a toy, and they nag, cajole and harass their parents into letting them play with it.

Every time I spend time with any of my nephews or nieces, they never fail to ask me if they can borrow my iPhone. When I cave, and hand it over, they immediately know what to do, and have an encyclopedic knowledge of which iPhone apps they want to play with.

YouTube hosts a huge number of videos of very young kids playing with iPhones -- even one-year-olds.

You don't see anything like this with other phones. The iPhone user interface is so easy, appealing and intuitive, that children naturally and immediately "get it." And they don't care about iPhone flaws, such as lack of tethering, lack of multitasking or lack of a physical keyboard. Children are hardwired for touch interfaces, and they love iPhones.

Microsoft CEO hints at new form factors for Xbox platform

During yesterday’s cloud computing talk at the U of W, Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer brought up out of nowhere a few points involving the future of the Xbox platform, swiftly hitting up several prospects of the potentially new form factors, price points, and options.

He revealed, “In the case of the TV we’ve got both strategies. We actually have a TV implementation in some senses built into Windows,” Ballmer said. “It works really well for small screen TVs that you might call a PC, but for that big screen device here’s a piece of hardware that we build, there’s no diversity. You get exactly the Xboxes that we build for you. We may have more form factors in the future that are designed for various price points and options, but we think it’s going to [be] important.”

FirstView's $95 Android / Windows CE PC607V tips a craptablet iceberg at CeBIT

Doesn't look too bad for a $95 Android tablet, huh? Well, there's plenty more where that came from. Scattered along the main halls of CeBIT are dozens of Chinese and Taiwanese consumer electronics resellers looking to sell products to new customers, and this year they sure loaded up the suitcases with cheap Android / Windows CE tablets. For the most part all these tablets (or small smartbooks) have ARM 9 or 11 processors and 5 to 7-inch resistive touch displays. While some like the FirstView PC607V tablet (pictured above) have attractive skins on top of Windows CE, others from companies like Forsa and Huawei have gone with stock versions of Android. In truth, all of the ones we played with felt chintzy, but it was easier to lower our standards when we learned they wouldn't draw more than $150 from our wallets. We've got a hands-on video with FirstView's Android tablet after the break, but if that doesn't fill your cheap tablet needs hit the more coverage links for videos by some serious Android / ARM tablet lovers.

S.H.E New Album "SHERO"

After officially releasing "Only To Fall For You" as the ending theme song for the drama "Down With Love," super girl group S.H.E has three more new songs out.

The first is called "Two People's Desert Island" which features fellow label mate Judy Chou, 2nd place winner from Season One of the popular singing contest One Million Star. The slow melody and well-harmonized vocals in this piece reminds listeners of classic S.H.E songs such as "Tropical Rain Forest" and "Where's Love?" Judy Chou's voice has also improved drastically since his debut days on One Million Star and he's now much more capable of handling slower melodies.

The second song is called "Anything Can Happen" which features happier, bouncier voices from the girls combined with a pop/jazz musical background. Ella's soulful voice, in particular, stands out greatly in the middle portion of the song.

Hottests are enraged with Taecyeon declaring a “new beginning”

The hot issue of Jaebeom’s permanent exit is still burning, however, it doesn’t seem like Taecyeon is helping to make the situation any better. Taecyeon has recently written a post to his fans to his individual fan-cafe (amazingly still up and running) about having a “new beginning”, supposedly a subtle message of his feelings in regards to the Jaebeom-controversy.

“It’s a new beginning. Shall we start it together?,” Taecyeon clearly states in his post.

Many netizens – that is, the Hottests included – have put Taecyeon under fire with speculations suggesting that the purpose of such message was to officially declare a fresh new start for 2PM, without their former-leader, Jaebeom… almost as if he has now taken the position.

2PM boycott gives advertisers a headache

After fans found out Jaebeom would not be returning to 2PM, many fans decided to take action by boycotting against the 6-member group… again. This time, they are refusing to buy their music, the products they endorse, and to support them as a fan.

A “H” initial beverage company that was endorsed by 2PM wrote on their website the other day, “Our contract with 2PM ended on January 31st of 2010. We are thankful for your opinions. Because the contract ended on January 31st, their last promotion activity was the February 6th fanmeeting. Also, we have no desire to renew the contract.”

New Book to (Maybe?) Spill Hot Brangelina Sex Tales

Let's get this straight. There's a new tell-all Brangelina book that basically has all the details we've ever wanted to know? The couple's sex life, how Angie stole Brad away from Jen, who she was sleeping with before said man-theft -- did we mention sex? Lots and lots of sex.

That's the story Jenny Paul is selling with 'Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: The True Story,' anyway. "Hollywood will be rocked by these revelations about Brad and Angelina," Paul tells Life & Style magazine.

Call us skeptics. After the jump, we look at some of the book's super scandalous "revelations," including the massive rock star Angie supposedly shacked up with.

Life & Style reports the book will reveal Angelina was sleeping with both Ralph Fiennes and ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller at the beginning of her involvement with Brad in 2004. Jolie's relationship with Fiennes was apparently a saucy one -- the pair supposedly engaged in regular S&M sessions at a London hotel, after which they would older room service and watch the news. Um...

Steve Jobs says no tethering between iPad and iPhone

Steve Jobs appears to have fired off a tersely worded email reply to a user in Sweeden who asked whether the WiFi-only iPad could be tethered to the iPhone: "No."

Jezper Söderlund of the Swedish website Slashat.se reports that he sent Apple's chief executive an email identifying himself as an Apple customer before adding, "I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question: Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?"

The full email headers Söderlund forwarded to AppleInsider appear to indicate that Jobs sent his one word reply at 8:30 AM from his iPhone.

Office 2010 nearly ready; upgrade offer launched

Microsoft said on Friday that it plans to finalize the code for Office 2010 next month and, as expected, it kicked off a program enabling those who buy Office 2007 in the coming months to get a free upgrade to the new version.

In a blog posting, Microsoft said that it will have a business launch for the Office 2010 products on May 12. The company has said it expects the software to be broadly available in June.

As for the technology guarantee program, Microsoft says it will apply to those who buy Office 2007 between now and September 30 and will allow an upgrade to the comparable Office 2010 product.

A closer look at Windows Phone 7 Series

As I noted last night, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Series is a clean break with the past, from the look and feel of the product down to the way software makers will write programs for the device.

Microsoft confirmed on Thursday that the primary tools for developers will be Silverlight and XNA, while the look of the device, as outlined at last month's Mobile World Congress, is closer to the Zune HD than to any prior version of Windows Mobile.

I had a chance to do a short video interview with Microsoft's Charlie Kindel and get a look at the operating system first hand. Here's a look:

2PM tells Jaebeom to shut up?

A recent clip of 2PM including Jaebeom has surfaced that has Korean Hottests boiling with anger.

The general interpretation that many Korean netizens have been making is that he is rudely interrupted by his fellow 2PM members. While Jaebeom starts talking in the beginning of the clip, he is cut off by, who netizens think might be, member Chansung who tells him, “Jaebeomah Dakchyuh” (“Jaebeom-ah shut up”) or “Nuhneun Dakchyuh” (“You shut up”). Following the comment, you can clearly see annoyance and frustration portrayed in Jaebeom’s face.

Sony Reader, You Are So Dead

According to ChangeWave, the Kindle is going to have a hard time surviving the incoming iPad wave. In a 3171-people survey on Amazon.com users looking to buy an ebook reader, 40% said they were planning to buy the iPad.

Comparatively, 28% wanted to get the Amazon Kindle, despite having a longer life, more titles in the store, and allegedly offering a better book reading experience than the iPad thanks to its electronic ink technology. The 28% to 40% comparison is higher than we thought, actually, with Kindle still doing fairly well in comparison to Apple's do-everything device.

First shots of an iPad game detailed and revealed

iPhone game maker Secret Exit, creator of the widely-acclaimed iPhone game Zen Bound, has just announced the iPad version of the title, and not only will it be a port, it’ll be enhanced for the tablet hardware with new levels, music, gameplay, and improved graphics and visuals.

Zen Bound 2 is described as “both a sequel and a revision” of the original game, for the iPad. According to the press release brought by Kotaku, “The graphical fidelity on the iPad far improves on the critically acclaimed visuals of the first game – the surfaces are brimming with detail, vivid colors and subdued tones”.

Alice In Wonderland 3D Doesn't Need the 3D

Having read the original many times, watched multiple films and TV series, and collected every object imaginable, I must confess that I'm an Alice whore. Here's my review of Tim Burton's sequel: I love it. But not on 3D.

Spoilers ahead

In fact, I like everything about the movie except the 3D. I don't hate it, but it's obnoxious and distracting through most of the film. It just doesn't add anything to the experience beyond the post-movie dizziness. It's the antithesis of Avatar.

Taylor Swift Finds Taylor Lautner Hot

Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner are no longer an item – but the country music sensation still thinks her Valentine's Day costar is something special.

In Elle magazine's April issue, Swift is asked who she thinks is hot, and she's shy about her answer: "Um, well …Taylor Lautner."

The two Taylors casually dated last year before calling it quits in late December. No word, however, on whether Swift will use their time together as fodder for future songs, though she admits her love life often fuels her writing. "A letdown is worth a few songs," she says. "A heartbreak is worth a few albums."

Swift, 20, also shares the difficulties that come with her celebrity status. "I've had countless opportunities to do some really bad things," she says. "And then people start combing through everything I do trying to find the next mistake and misperception, which leads to more scrutiny."

Adam Lambert to Kick Off New Round of Unplugged Episodes

Get your DVRs ready, Adam Lambert fans.

On March 10, the singer will kick off a new round of Unplugged on VH1. The original series debuted on MTV in 1989. It features artists in an intimate setting, surrounded by audience members, and singing acoustic versions of their hits.

Take a look at the following shot of Lambert going Unplugged...

Memorable past performances on the concert special include Mariah Carey (1992), 10,000 Maniacs (1993) and Lauryn Hill (2002).

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Looks Very Cute With Short Hair

A bit of a scandal is brewing surrounding Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's new hair cut.

The first biological daughter of beautiful A-List parents, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, now sports a very short crop, prompting Life & Style to ask -- 'Why is Angelina turning Shiloh into a boy?' Their cover story sparked a firestorm around the Internet, angering many with the arguably prejudiced undertones of the article.

Now, here at PopEater, we think Shiloh's new 'do looks adorable. In fact, we believe it's improved on her already super cute adorableness -- something we barely thought possible. Regardless and more importantly, we hardly think that taking scissors to her fine, wispy hair means her mom wants her to be a boy.

Microsoft’s Pink phones show up again, might hit both Verizon and Vodafone

Although Microsoft hasn’t officially announced them, the Project Pink phones are almost certainly real and coming to Verizon in the near future.

Codenamed Pure and Turtle, the handsets have appeared in two new leaked images over at Engadget.

Manufactured by Sharp (one of Japan’s leading phone makers), the Microsoft Pink Pure and Pink Turtle seem to be featurephones, not smartphones. They might be released by Verizon on April 20, targeted at young mobile users. After the Verizon launch, the two devices should also be available across the globe via Vodafone.

Apple's iPad set to rock e-reader biz, says survey

But 1-in-4 who plan to buy iPad will put off other Apple purchases

Apple's iPad could seriously disrupt the e-reader business of Amazon, Sony and others, according to a survey last month that queried American consumers on their purchase plans.

"The iPad is all but certain to have a transformational impact on [the e-reader market] going forward," said Paul Carton, director of research for ChangeWave Research, in a report issued Friday. "While a handful of e-reader manufacturers -- most prominently Amazon -- clearly have a major head start, the survey findings show the iPad is poised to profoundly shake up this market."

iPhone games ported to webOS in 'a matter of days' on tap for GDC?

EA has already said that it was able to get 3D games up and running on webOS in a "matter of weeks" using the OS' PDK (or Plug-in Development Kit), but it looks like Palm might be ready to step things up even further at GDC next week. While any official word will have to wait until then, John Paczkowski of AllThingsD says that he's heard from sources close to the company that Palm will be now demonstrating how iPhone apps can be ported to webOS "in a matter of days," and with virtually no degradation in performance. Not much more to go on that at the moment, unfortunately, but you can be sure we'll be there at GDC to how this and anything else Palm might have in store pans out.

Sony to launch a multimedia tablet and the long-rumored PlayStation phone in 2010?

According to a rumor from the Wall Street Journal, Sony may be taking aim at the Apple iPhone, the Apple iPad and Microsoft’s Zune Phone Windows Phone 7 Series with two upcoming multifunction, multimedia-centric devices. Sony is reportedly developing a portable multimedia device bundled with online services that will rival the iPad. This rumored portable device will be part netbook, part e-reader, part gaming machine and will connect to the new Sony Online Service which will offer, music, movies, television episodes, and games. The bulk of the games available through the Online Service will be recycled PlayStation games and will be made available to wide range of portable and mobile devices. Sony promises to have this iPad killer in the hands of the masses sometime in 2010. The second and the smaller of the two multifunction devices is a smartphone, developed in conjunction with Ericsson, that will download and play PlayStation games. Sound familiar? It should as this idea of a PlayStation phone has been bouncing for almost three years now without any concrete evidence that the project has been moving forward. Will 2010 be the year Sony delivers the PlayStation phone and finally puts an end to this seemingly endless rumor? We hope so at this repetitive reporting is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter compliments Big Bang

Korean online mag MK25 recently conducted an interview with the Backstreet Boys. During the interview, a topic that came up was, “How much do you know about Korea. An artist that has caught your attention.”

Nick Carter answered:

“Ah, out of Korean artists, I know a group called Big Bang. Whether it’s their music or fashion style, all of it seems very cool and charismatic. Especially, leader G-Dragon’s fashion sense and style, I think it’s sensational.”

From TVXQ to Big Bang, the Backstreet Boys are slowly but surely catching onto k-pop.

Ethan admits his wrong in hotel incident

Model and actress Tiffany Hsu and Ethan Ruan’s hotel incident has become a hot topic. A few days ago, through an interview with “Fashion Queen,” Tiffany revealed that when she is stressed, she will become happy again after taking a bath, “If I’m still in a bad mood, it’s okay to cry in secret!”

The night before, Ethan Ruan attended the grand opening of a fashion clothing store in Hong Kong. Xiao Tian (Ethan) expressed that because his Grandfather had just passed away, he just wants to take care of his family matters and wishes that the media would stop disturbing his girlfriend Tiffany, “No matter what, it is my fault.”

Due to the scandal, Xiao Tian was less lively than usual. When asked if he had cheated on his girlfriend, he replied helplessly, “I’ve already explained everything that needed to be explained. She was my friend’s girlfriend. If I say any more, it will only complicate the matter more. I don’t want to make things tougher for Tiffany, so I’m sorry, but I don’t want to comment about this anymore.” As for whether he has been forgiven by his girlfriend, he answered, “She is currently busy with filming, and it is also our private matter.”

Was ist dass? Rihanna romps with robots in an outrageously rude performance at German music awards

As Rihanna took to the stage to perform her new single Rude Boy in Germany last night, the singer with an album titled Rated R was intent on living up to the billing.

The 22-year-old's performance veered to the lewd side of sexy at the Echo Awards in Berlin as she danced around with robots whose behaviour was certainly not for young eyes.

Wearing a black and white bodysuit, with a white frill on the bottom, Rihanna gyrated around the stage as the machines kissed her, pinched her derrière and sprayed water on her.

Kirsten Dunst turns 1930s screen siren with old Hollywood glamour look

With her pencil thin eyebrows and vacant expression, Kirsten Dunst looks like a modern day Greta Garbo.

The actress posed for famed photographer Mario Testino in this highly stylised photoshoot, evoking old-fashioned Hollywood glamour.

Dunst, 27, takes a step away from her own quirky style and goes back to the Thirties to be this month's cover star for esteemed U.S. fashion magazine V.

She appears on the front of the publication in a slinky nude Dolce & Gabbana bustier top trimmed with black lace.

Apple iPad available in the US on April 3, pre-orders start this month

If you’re hoping to buy an Apple iPad in the US this month, you’ll be disappointed to find out that the Cupertino company’s first tablet will only be available starting April 3 – so those rumors about production problems may be true.

Of course, it’s only the 3G-less iPad that’s going to be available on April 3. For the 3G version of the tablet you’ll have to wait until the end of April – when both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G iPads will also be launched in Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Japan.

Microsoft Courier coming 2H 2010: Tegra 2 based digital journal

It feels almost blasphemous what with the iPad furore right now, but some of us are more interested in Microsoft’s long-rumored Courier project. New details of the dual-screen “digital journal” have emerged today, with Engadget hearing that the pen-centric device is, indeed, on course for an official release later in the year.

Apparently the Courier is only slightly larger than a 5 x 7 photo, and measures less than an inch thick when closed. It’s a little over a pound in weight, and is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset with the same OS – presumably meaning Windows CE 6 based – as the Zune HD, Pink and Windows Mobile 7.

Ariel gets a taste of Hollywood through Jay

Ariel Lin recently accepted a beverage ad in collaboration with Jay Chou. But since Jay was busy filming “Green Hornet” at the time, they had to move the production to Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Because of Jay, Ariel got a taste of Hollywood treatment for four days and three nights. Not only did they have a special chef preparing meals, she also had her own luxury car. She became another type of “J girl.”

Living in a luxury hotel, NT$50,000 a night
After nine years, Ariel and Jay collaborated for a second time. She was in Jay’s “Nunchucks” MV, but Jay’s status is very different now. He’s now a co-star of Cameron Diaz in “Green Hornet.” Because of Jay, Ariel had a taste of the so-called Hollywood treatment.

Singer Katy Perry is among the stars whose voices will feature in a film based on the Smurfs, reports say.

The 25-year-old is in talks to portray Smurfette, one of the creatures created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford in 1958, according to Variety.

British actor Alan Cumming and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris are also linked to the project, a mixture of live-action and animation.

The former editor is best known for directing the two Scooby-Doo films and canine caper Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

She is currently engaged to British comedian Russell Brand.

“Smallville” Renewed For 10th Season

It’s back! Smallville has been renewed for a 10th season. The long-running CW series — which stars Tom Welling as a young Clark Kent — has been a ratings winner for the network in its Friday night timeslot this season.

Smallville joins five previously announced series that will return to the network next fall: The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural, and America’s Next Top Model.

Minor browsers seek more prominence in Europe

Unhappy with their lot, six of seven second-tier browsers have petitioned regulators for increased prominence on the screen that gives Windows users in the European Union a choice of browsers besides Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

The browser makers on Thursday sent a petition to Neelie Kroes, a European Commission vice president, and other regulators who have been dealing with the browser-choice technology that Microsoft has begun distributing to millions in Europe as part of an antitrust case against the software company. The top five browsers dominate the market, but more obscure browser makers hope the EU antitrust action will grant them more relevance.

Windows users who have IE set as their default browser will see the choice screen after a change sent via Windows Update. The resulting choice screen gives a choice of 12 browsers, but the five that always show without scrolling are IE, Mozilla's Firefox, Opera, Apple's Safari, and Google Chrome, which by Net Applications statistics are the most-used browsers today. The petitioners don't seek a change that could get their browsers onto the first screen, but rather some text or graphics that indicate there are choices beyond the first five.

HTC Desire, Legend and HD Mini show up on Amazon UK, expected to arrive on April 1

Slowly but surely, HTC's latest trifecta of handsets is making its way westwards. After appearing on Amazon's Deutsche hub with a pre-order value of €519 ($707), the Desire has now reached the UK with an even steeper £528 ($795) price and an estimated arrival time of April 1. Let's just hope this pattern doesn't continue or we'll be looking at a four-figure sticker when this thing comes all the way Stateside. The HTC Legend is also slated for an April 1 delivery and carries a price of £400 ($602), while the HD Mini will straggle a tiny bit with an April 14 launch and a palatable £369 ($556) price. All are without contractual obligations, so it'll be interesting to see what incentives carriers can come up with to get us to jump on board.

Charlene Choi: "I am currently single."

Charlene attended the Mulberry Spring Fashion Show as a guest and mentioned that she would like to try walking the runway at a fashion show. But she knows that her height is too short in comparison to all the professional models, like model Lynn at the event. She looks at it as a self-learning experience, but she has never thought about becoming a full-time professional model and she is satisfied with her own body. However, Lynn praised Charlene as always having a good temperament/mood and said Charlene is definitely competent to do modelling. On the topic of height, when Charlene was asked if she minds if her boyfriend is shorter than her, Charlene replied that height is not a factor in love and there are other characteristics to an individual. However, when Ronald Cheng's name is brought up, Charlene clearly states "I am currently single." When reporters asked her when she became single, Charlene did not elaborate but simply said that she is single.

"Troublemaker" Best Pop Song of Arashi Released (Video)

Arashi (嵐)'s new single "Troublemaker" has been released on March 3rd. The song "Troublemaker" is used as the theme song of the drama "Tokujo Kabachi(特上カバチ!!)" which is on air now and is starred by Sho Sakurai (櫻井翔).
