Katy Perry 'signs up for Smurf role'

Singer Katy Perry is among the stars whose voices will feature in a film based on the Smurfs, reports say.The 25-year-old is in talks to portray Smurfette, one of the creatures created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford in 1958, according to Variety.
British actor Alan Cumming and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris are also linked to the project, a mixture of live-action and animation.
Raja Gosnell will reportedly direct the film, set for release in 2011.
The former editor is best known for directing the two Scooby-Doo films and canine caper Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
Pop star Perry has enjoyed a number of hits including I Kissed a Girl, Hot N Cold and Waking Up in Vegas.
She is currently engaged to British comedian Russell Brand.
Known for their blue skin, white hats and mushroom houses, the Smurfs were the stars of a popular 1980s TV series.
Their distinctive complexion has been compared in recent months to that of the aliens in sci-fi hit Avatar - dubbed "Dancing with Smurfs" by one online critic.
