So, since you're stuck paying $10 extra per month for "premium data services" (not that bad of a 4G tax, if you ask us), what wonders await you on the HTC EVO 4G, fueled by Sprint's next-gen network? Well, if these best-case-scenario tests we just did are any indication: everything you ever dreamed of. Of course, Sprint's WiMAX might end up stumbling up the steps of reality, but there's no denying that this is 21st century technology that's worthy of some of the excitement that's been lavished upon it. We just saw demos of Qik video conferencing, YouTube HQ (output brilliantly over HDMI), simultaneous data and voice usage, and even a straight-up speed test (4Mbps down, 1Mbps up, the latter of which is a hard cap). The phone performed brilliantly in each scenario, but of course that's to be expected when you have a 4G tower in the building. Check out the videos of all this breathless action after the break. Added bonus? All four (totaling about 100MB) were uploaded with our laptop tethered over WiFi to an HTC EVO 4G. Don't be jealous. Okay, be just a little bit jealous.

Okay, we've just gotten the full complaint HTC filed with the International Trade Commission this morning, alleging that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod infringe five of its patents and asking for sales and imports to be halted. What's odd here is that HTC hasn't yet filed a lawsuit in federal court, which could mean a lot of things -- HTC could just be banking on the ITC's somewhat faster process to force Apple's hand, or it could be less sure of its patent claims and avoiding the harsher scrutiny of a courtroom in favor of an administrative decision. We can't say for sure what the reasoning is -- but we can read the ITC complaint and break down the claims, and that's exactly what we're going to do. It's all after the break, grab the PDF or check out the gallery and follow along.

Given surging popular sentiment-that-will-not-amount-to-anything, this might make you feel ickier, rather than happier, but the rumor is that deep Facebook integration with the iPhone is actually happening.
At a minimum, it means true Facebook contact syncing—like you see on Android and Pre—but also, possibly, Facebook Connect for iPhone apps, so they can connect more directly with Facebook. (I'm feeling a definite ick on that aspect, given what the average Facebook newsfeed already looks like.)

Earlier this week, Daniel Gauss, the former English tutor of the Wonder Girls, made waves when he released a statement claiming that the management of JYP Entertainment had mistreated the pop quintet during their stay in the United States. Amongst his claims, Gauss stated that the girls hadn’t been receiving proper health insurance and medical care, and were living illegally in New York City.
Since this statement, Jung Wook (the CEO of JYPE), Yeeun and Sunye all spoke up against these claims and explained their side of the matter, and now JYPE has released an official statement regarding the matter on their website jype.com.

Tomorrow, Eminem‘s lead single from his forthcoming album Recovery, “Not Afraid,” will debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 single chart. The veteran lyricist is in good company. Only 16 other artists in the history of Billboard‘s chart have accomplished the feat. Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” jumped to the top spot in 1998. Puff Daddy’s dedication to the Notorious B.I.G., “I’ll Be Missing You” did it in 1997. And Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” was first to do it in 1995.
Are you surprised Em jumped to No. 1 so fast? Anxious to hear what Recovery has to offer? Let us know.

See the marking on that chip with the Apple logo. No, not the "N90" codename indicating that it's from Apple's next generation GSM iPhone, the other text. If we're not mistaken then we're seeing "339S0084" on that chip from today's fourth-generation iPhone teardown. Guess what? According to Chipworks, that's the Apple A4 microprocessor fabricated by Samsung and the presumed work of Apple's acquired PA Semi and Intrinsity engineers. The "APL0398" text is also the same as that found on the iPad's speedy and power sipping A4 system-on-chip. The other markings differ however. What that means isn't entirely clear yet but we're digging.

Nanako Matsushima (36) and Seung-heon Song (33) are set to star in an Asian remake of Jerry Zucker’s smash hit 1990 film Ghost, taking over the roles originally played by Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze. In the Hollywood version, Swayze played a man who was killed during an attempted mugging and remained on earth as a ghost to warn his girlfriend (Moore) of an impending danger. The Asian version will be set in Japan.
Probably best known outside of Japan for starring in the 1998 horror film “Ring”, former full-time fashion model Matsushima truly made a name for herself domestically in 2002 by playing Matsu in the enormously popular NTV drama “Toshiie and Matsu”. In 2007, she proved herself to be a capable lead film actress with a poignant performance in Isshin Inudo’s “Bizan”.

Whatever you think about the Kin devices themselves, the one thing most folks can agree on is that their monthly pricing is more than a little out of step with their target audience -- except for Microsoft and Verizon, that is. Speaking to Computerworld, Microsoft senior product manager Greg Sullivan and Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney both raised the issue of the Kin's ability to backup to the cloud when defending the high monthly price ($30 for data on top of a standard phone plan), with Sullivan saying that once customers "realize the value of this, they'll realize it's a great deal." On another note, Sullivan also used some interesting language when discussing the possibility of app downloads for the Kin, saying that "over the longer term" Microsoft will be "merging" the Kin and Windows Phone 7 platforms and adding downloadable apps. Now, that's not a radical departure from what we've heard from Microsoft before, but "merge" is a curious choice of words, isn't it?

We had a hunch that LG's Android 2.1-based Ally would see its first customers on May 20th, and Verizon Wireless has finally opened up and confirmed as much this morning. The Iron Man 2-infused smartphone -- which we spent some time with yesterday -- will be available in all VZW stores beginning May 20th, with pre-orders going live for phone and web customers tomorrow. We've already given you the rundown when it comes to specs (they're after the break for those with memories shorter than their shoelaces), but now we're able to confirm that it'll sell for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract. A well-specced Android smartphone for under a Benjamin? Not bad, LG.
