American Idol Down 3 Goodbye Big Mike

Tuesday on American Idol, the top four contestants performed songs from Hollywood movies like Caddyshack and Free Willy. Wednesday on Idol, one of them was eliminated. The others will continue on the road to the finale, stopping in their hometowns along the way.

Keep reading to find out who’s journey reached its end.

Bye bye, Big Mike.

Michael Lynche, the physical trainer with the torso of a colossus and a voice built on a similar scale, was rescued from elimination by the judges’ save earlier in the season, but he had trouble escaping voters’ indifference ever since. It was going to be either him this week or Casey James — and Casey was proclaimed safe 20 minutes in, effectively ending any suspense in the hour.

Mike was always very assured on stage: He seemed to have a pretty strong sense of what sort of music he liked and what sort of performing style he preferred. This could come across as either heroic confidence, fueled in the early weeks by the fact that he’d just become a father, or polished smarminess, and it varied from week to week. I never quite recovered from his cover of “Eleanor Rigby.”

Christina Aguilera Strips Down for German GQ

Hot mama!

Christina Aguilera sheds her clothes and strikes a pose in a pair of skin-tight Christian Louboutin thigh-high boots and blinged out Gaspar gloves for the June cover of German GQ magazine.

No stranger to nudity (she posed with just a sheet for the American version of GQ in 2006) the singer, 29, recently told the Q100 Bert Show in Atlanta that she's "more confident and comfortable in my own skin" since the birth of her two-year-old son Max.

Aguilera, who wed husband Jordan Bratman in 2008, describes herself as a "very sexual person" and doesn't plan on dulling it down anytime soon.

Danica McKellar Maxim Magazine Pictures June 2010

Math whiz Danica McKellar — best remembered as Winnie Cooper on TV’s nostalgic drama The Wonder Years — is taking a break from solving mind-boggling equations to show a little skim for the June issue of Maxim.

“When I got to college, I was intending to study film. But I found that my brain was feeling mushy, so I took a few math classes. I started doing really well at them, and solving equations was this, like, drug rush….I realized I needed to find out who I was outside of that show. My whole life people called me Winnie Cooper, and it was important for me to find out what else I had to offer,” says McKellar, one of 100 beauties featured on Maxim’s annual list of the world’s most gorgeous woman.

Danica — who is a best-selling author — is expecting her first child later this year. Her new book, Hot X: Algebra Exposed!, arrives in August.

Sprint's HTC EVO 4G put through its bandwidth-sucking paces

So, since you're stuck paying $10 extra per month for "premium data services" (not that bad of a 4G tax, if you ask us), what wonders await you on the HTC EVO 4G, fueled by Sprint's next-gen network? Well, if these best-case-scenario tests we just did are any indication: everything you ever dreamed of. Of course, Sprint's WiMAX might end up stumbling up the steps of reality, but there's no denying that this is 21st century technology that's worthy of some of the excitement that's been lavished upon it. We just saw demos of Qik video conferencing, YouTube HQ (output brilliantly over HDMI), simultaneous data and voice usage, and even a straight-up speed test (4Mbps down, 1Mbps up, the latter of which is a hard cap). The phone performed brilliantly in each scenario, but of course that's to be expected when you have a 4G tower in the building. Check out the videos of all this breathless action after the break. Added bonus? All four (totaling about 100MB) were uploaded with our laptop tethered over WiFi to an HTC EVO 4G. Don't be jealous. Okay, be just a little bit jealous.

HTC sue Apple; petition ITC to freeze US iPhone, iPad & iPod imports

Okay, we've just gotten the full complaint HTC filed with the International Trade Commission this morning, alleging that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod infringe five of its patents and asking for sales and imports to be halted. What's odd here is that HTC hasn't yet filed a lawsuit in federal court, which could mean a lot of things -- HTC could just be banking on the ITC's somewhat faster process to force Apple's hand, or it could be less sure of its patent claims and avoiding the harsher scrutiny of a courtroom in favor of an administrative decision. We can't say for sure what the reasoning is -- but we can read the ITC complaint and break down the claims, and that's exactly what we're going to do. It's all after the break, grab the PDF or check out the gallery and follow along.

HTC EVO 4G Available June 4 for $199; 2-Way Video Chat Revealed

At CTIA 2010 in March I was given the opportunity to preview the HTC EVO 4G, Sprint’s forthcoming flagship device. We were given enough juicy details to make us salivate and were shown the phone. We were only allowed to have limited access to the phone, restricted to taking only pictures of certain features or apps, and it certainly left us wanting to know more. Tonight Sprint and HTC held an event to reveal answers to all of our burning questions: when will it come out? How much will the phone and data plans cost? What else can it do?

The most important detail is that the EVO 4G will arrive in Sprint stores on June 4, conveniently just ahead of Apple’s WWDC, the most likely time when the newest iPhone will be announced. With two year contract and after mail-in rebates, the EVO 4G will run you $199.99 (exactly as rumored).

On top of the phone’s price there will be an additional required $10 monthly “premium data add-on plan”, which will encompass unlimited 4G/3G usage as well as Qik’s new two-way video chat service. The video chat is not a huge surprise given the forward-facing camera on the EVO 4G, but it’s such a new concept in the US that it can be hard to believe it’s actually happening. It’s also nice to hear that video chat will be available over both 4G and 3G networks.

Cecilia Cheung gives birth to 7 pounds 7 ounces baby boy

Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung's second child was born last night at approximately 10pm. The baby weighs 7 pounds and 7 ounces, heavier than older brother Lucas who was only 6 pounds. At approximately 10:25 pm, Patrick Tse and Deborah Lai brought Lucas down to meet with the media. The two are grandpa and grandma once again. Both Patrick and Deborah fought to announce the good news to the media: "Thank you all for your concern. Their second child is born!" Patrick and Deborah named Nicholas as the "good news bird" announcing that the baby looks just like his parents, a handsome boy.

The grandparents reveals that Nicholas personally cut the umbilical cord, but denied that the elders chose the date to give birth. Deborah said: "The Baby chose himself." About Cecilia's current condition, Patrick said: "She's doing well, nothing wrong." Last night Nicholas has not revealed the baby's picture, asked if they will share a photo? Deborah expressed that happy events, later definitely will share it. Asked about the baby's name? They said: "Not yet. Nicholas has to see which name he has a feelings for, look at who he resembles. But for the English name, there are some ideas. " Patrick also reveals that Lucas said that he likes his younger brother.

Elton John “American Idol” Judge Snub — “Rocket Man” Singer Turns Down $33 Million Offer To Replace Simon Cowell

As the Mr. Nasty era of American Idol winds to an end, at least one music legend is out of the race to replace acid-tongued judge Simon Cowell on the FOX TV talent series.

According to Access Hollywood, music legend Elton John — who appeared as a guest judge on Season 3 of Idol — has turned down a $33 million offer to take up residence at the judge’s table. Sources aren’t sure whether the massive payday would have been for one season or part of a multi-year contract — but Elton’s decision to say “Thanks, But No Thanks” has Idol producers scrambling to find a suitable replacement for Cowell.

We hear that Simon’s successor will not be revealed until after the May 26 Idol finale.

Mariah Carey “The X Factor America” Judge

Word on the curb has that songbird Mariah Carey is being considered for a judging role on the US adaption of Simon Cowell’s European talent series The X Factor.

The rumor has being heating up The Gossip Wire ever since Cowell’s former girlfriend, British singer Sinitta, let is slip that the Grammy-winning powerhouse had been approached about joining the judging panel of the new series in an interview with Britain’s Daily Mail this week.

“It’s amazing that so many people want to do it, it’s huge. Everybody is up for it, Mariah, OK I’m not saying anymore!”

Facebook Might Be Built Into iPhone OS 4

Given surging popular sentiment-that-will-not-amount-to-anything, this might make you feel ickier, rather than happier, but the rumor is that deep Facebook integration with the iPhone is actually happening.

At a minimum, it means true Facebook contact syncing—like you see on Android and Pre—but also, possibly, Facebook Connect for iPhone apps, so they can connect more directly with Facebook. (I'm feeling a definite ick on that aspect, given what the average Facebook newsfeed already looks like.)

What Is iPad?

Still not sure what an iPad is? Don't worry, Apple's latest ad for the "magical" gadget will clear things up.

In case the voiceover is putting you to sleep as well, here are the words you're supposed to take away from the video: Thin. Beautiful. Crazy powerful. Magical.

JYPE releases official statement regarding alleged mistreatment of the Wonder Girls

Earlier this week, Daniel Gauss, the former English tutor of the Wonder Girls, made waves when he released a statement claiming that the management of JYP Entertainment had mistreated the pop quintet during their stay in the United States. Amongst his claims, Gauss stated that the girls hadn’t been receiving proper health insurance and medical care, and were living illegally in New York City.

Since this statement, Jung Wook (the CEO of JYPE), Yeeun and Sunye all spoke up against these claims and explained their side of the matter, and now JYPE has released an official statement regarding the matter on their website jype.com.

Avatar Blu-ray Sales Now Total 6.2m

6.2million people are officially nuts. That's the conclusion I've come to after hearing Avatar's now sold 6.2million Blu-ray copies in the first three weeks since launch—that's a steady climb since the 2.7million sold in the first four days.

6.2million Blu-rays in total, and 13.5million DVD sales. Let's sit on those figures for a while. These are sales from the last three weeks of release, from people who most likely know that the 3D Blu-ray and special edition Blu-ray will be coming out later this year/early next year.

Fair enough, maybe those people couldn't wait to watch it. But why not see it at the cinema? Even if they had already seen it at the cinema, why bother plunking $40 down on a Blu-ray which—and let's be honest—won't be viewed more than once or twice this year.

Just to compare those numbers, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight racked up 16million sales of both Blu-ray and DVDs together, 3.7million less than James Cameron's Avatar.

RIM's strategy to stay on top in smartphones

For Research in Motion, the maker of the popular BlackBerry smartphone, staying No. 1 isn't about apps or fancy hardware, it's about cost effectiveness.

For all the hoopla surrounding Apple's iPhone and the various Android smartphones that have hit the market recently, many forget what is still, by a healthy margin tops in the market: RIM's modest BlackBerry. And RIM intends to stay on top by doing what it does best: offering something that's more affordable and can operate on wireless networks more efficiently than its flashier competition.

RIM is currently the second biggest smartphone company in the world with market share of 19 percent, according to a recent report by IDC. For the first time ever, the device maker was among the world's top five cell phone makers in the world, displacing the once mighty Motorola, according to IDC. And it is the top smartphone maker in the U.S., NPD Group said in a recent report.

During the first quarter, RIM added 4.9 million new BlackBerry subscriber accounts for a total of 41 million subscribers. The company's device shipments were up 40 percent to 37 million compared with the same quarter a year ago, executives said on its quarterly earnings call. For the moment, RIM is a strong leader in the smartphone market. But chinks in its armor are already starting to show as competition from Apple and Android heats up.

"Weak offerings in touch (phones) and 3G leave the company heavily exposed to a slew of new smartphones now hitting the market," Ed Snynder, an analyst with Charter Equity Research, wrote in a note to investors when first-quarter earnings came out. "While it will certainly maintain its lead in e-mail-based smartphones, we see little chance it can sustain its market share, pricing or margins long-term."

Japanese Writer: ‘Young Woong Jaejoong Will Become Successful Actor’

A Japanese drama writer praised Korean actor Young Woong Jaejoong, who is now acting in the Japanese TV drama "I Can't Be Honest."

According to a person at Image Factory, which is an importer of the movie “Halfway,” Kitagawa Eriko, who is a writer for the drama “I Can’t Be Honest,” sent a letter to the film company saying, “I strongly believe that Young Woong Jaejoong will establish his foundation as an actor by appearing in the drama ‘I Can’t Be Honest.’”

Kitagawa is a famous writer as she has written successful dramas including “I Can’t Be Honest” and “One Million Stars Falling from the Sky,” and she also debuted as a movie director with “Halfway,” which was released in Korea last month.

Kitagawa continued to say in the letter, “Jaejoong is transcending national boundaries by acting in the Japanese drama 'I Can’t Be Honest.' I am enjoying working with him.”

Gigi Leung breaks up with her boyfriend of 4 years

Gigi Leung and French boyfriend Sly have been dating 4 years and still ended with a break up! Yesterday a magazine reported that Gigi's mother was unhappy with Sly. To improve the relationship, earlier this year Gigi purchased a joint unit, hoping that her mother can see Sly more and improve the relationship. Unfortunately Sly felt that Gigi's mother was a "light bulb" between him and Gigi, so he was unhappy living together. Also, in the recent year he has seen Gigi less and before Gigi's mom moved into the new house, he already said to break up.

Gigi revealed through her Weibo (Sina Twitter) admitting that she did break up with Sly. She expressed after a good discussion with Sly, they decided that its better to remain as friends. They felt more comfortable being friends. Gigi also said that the content in the magazine report is some true and some untrue. She strongly stressed that the break up with Sly happened only a few months ago, but they still meet up every other week, continuing to provide mutual support and encouragement. Gigi also explains that she had always hoped to live closer with family so it's more convenient to care for one another. Her family will soon be moving back to live with her.

MTV Movie Awards 2010: 'New Moon' Dominates With Five Nominations

It's that time of the year again: the MTV Movie Awards nominees are in! Surprisingly, it was "The Hangover" and not "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" that dominated the nominations, though with five nods a piece, "New Moon" and "Avatar" are giving "The Hangover's" six nominations a run for its money.

The new category of Global Superstar was dominated by the "Twilight" gang as Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart stole three of the five spots. Johnny Depp and Daniel Radcliffe rounded out the category.

"New Moon" also got nods for Kristen as a Best Female Performance, Rob and Taylor as Best Male Performance, Kristen and Rob's smooch(es?) for Best Kiss, and as the Best Movie. What "New Moon" didn't produce was a Best Scared-As-Sh--t Performance, a Most Badass Star, Best Fight, WTF Moment or Villain, and neither a Best Breakout Performance nor a Best Comedic Performance. However, Anna Kendrick did get a Best Breakout Performance nod for her role in "Up in the Air" — a nod we totally agree with!

Robert Pattinson ‘Says Kristen Stewart’s Pregnant’

ROBERT Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are expecting their first child together — that’s if you believe the latest issue of OK! magazine!

According to the publication, the couple — who have so far remained mum about their widely-rumored romance — broke the baby news Oprah Winfrey.

At the May 6 taping of The Oprah Show, the host asked the Twilight stars if talk of a relationship is true.

Rob reportedly responded, “Kristen’s pregnant.”

Reports of Rob and Kristen’s private conversation with Oprah first surfaced last week when E! News claimed the duo had confirmed to the billionaire media mogul that they are a couple.

“We were all briefed before the show how to handle the talent,” a source said.

“Part of what we were told was that Rob and Kristen are dating.”

However, we’re doubtful Kristen, 20, is pregnant and we don’t think Rob, who sizzles on the June cover GQ South Africa, would be that stupid!

Adam Shankman Miley Cyrus Dirty Dancing Lap Dance VIDEO

Miley’s entered the pivotal chapter in her inevitable crossover from celebrated child star to unemployed repeat rehabber that we like to call The Slut Years!

A newly leaked video obtained by TMZ shows Miley Cyrus, then 16, giving The Last Song producer and So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman, 44, a skanktastic lap dance that would make Tila Tequila blush. The incident took place during a wrap party for the movie last summer and left some parents in attendance so disgusted they snatched up their children and quickly made a break for it. (Ho shit can be contagious, if you hadn’t heard.)

Eminem's 'Not Afraid' to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100

Tomorrow, Eminem‘s lead single from his forthcoming album Recovery, “Not Afraid,” will debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 single chart. The veteran lyricist is in good company. Only 16 other artists in the history of Billboard‘s chart have accomplished the feat. Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” jumped to the top spot in 1998. Puff Daddy’s dedication to the Notorious B.I.G., “I’ll Be Missing You” did it in 1997. And Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” was first to do it in 1995.

Are you surprised Em jumped to No. 1 so fast? Anxious to hear what Recovery has to offer? Let us know.

HP Hurricane webOS tablet leaks continue

With HP still refusing to comment on the record about the fate of their Windows 7 slate, we’re having to piece together their tablet plans from rumor, leaks and a little tantric chanting. Latest to the speculation buffet is GottaBeMobile, who have heard from “two separate and reliable sources” that the Windows 7 tablet won’t be released this coming summer, as HP instead focus their efforts on rushing out a webOS based slate codenamed the HP Hurricane.

HP, the sources say, are seeing the webOS slate as being a direct competitor to Apple’s iPad, which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. It will also be positioned as a companion device, rather than a standalone PC as the original HP Slate. The sources declined to confirm exact specifications.

Microsoft Predicts Fastest-Ever Adoption of Office

Microsoft Corp. expects customers to adopt the new version of Office at the fastest pace in the software’s 20-year history, helping reverse a sales slump and fend off competition from Google Inc.’s Web-based programs.

The software has been tested by 8.6 million users, Microsoft said, more than three times as many as any previous version, signaling that adoption will be quick. Users are also likely to upgrade to the new package of business software at the same time they install Windows 7, released last year, said Chris Capossela, a senior vice president in the Office group.

“This version will be the best ever in terms of adoption speed, both because of the interest we are seeing and the Windows 7 adoption curve,” Capossela said in an interview last week. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, is holding an event in New York today to mark the official release of Office 2010 to businesses.

Microsoft’s $19 billion business division, which gets most of its revenue from Office, could use the boost. Its sales will drop 3 percent in the fiscal year ending in June, estimates UBS AG analyst Brent Thill. While the new software will spur orders in the coming year, the comeback will hinge on whether businesses recommit to technology spending -- something they’ve been slow to do in the wake of the recession.

Fourth generation iPhone teardown reveals A4 microprocessor

See the marking on that chip with the Apple logo. No, not the "N90" codename indicating that it's from Apple's next generation GSM iPhone, the other text. If we're not mistaken then we're seeing "339S0084" on that chip from today's fourth-generation iPhone teardown. Guess what? According to Chipworks, that's the Apple A4 microprocessor fabricated by Samsung and the presumed work of Apple's acquired PA Semi and Intrinsity engineers. The "APL0398" text is also the same as that found on the iPad's speedy and power sipping A4 system-on-chip. The other markings differ however. What that means isn't entirely clear yet but we're digging.

Donnie Yen to star as 'Fist of Fury' hero in new romantic thriller

Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen will star in the upcoming romantic thriller "The Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" produced by Gordon Chan.

Yen will play Chen Zhen, a fictional martial arts hero originally played by the late kung fu legend Bruce Lee, in the 1972 action film "Fists of Fury".

Set in 1920s Shanghai, Chan's film will also star Taiwanese actress Shu Qi as a dance hostess with complex emotions, who gets caught between Chen and a gangland boss played by screen veteran Anthony Wong.

Although the film still revolves around Chen Zhen, a character that has been re-imagined and played by various actors numerous times in various films and television series, Chan claims that his version of the character is different from those that came before.

"The Bruce Lee version [of Chen Zhen] was uneducated, the Jet Li version returned to China from Japan but this time, the Donnie Yen version of Chen Zhen returned to China from Europe, plays the piano and smokes cigars," said Chan during a press conference for the film in Beijing on Monday.

Asian remake of “Ghost” in the works

Nanako Matsushima (36) and Seung-heon Song (33) are set to star in an Asian remake of Jerry Zucker’s smash hit 1990 film Ghost, taking over the roles originally played by Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze. In the Hollywood version, Swayze played a man who was killed during an attempted mugging and remained on earth as a ghost to warn his girlfriend (Moore) of an impending danger. The Asian version will be set in Japan.

Probably best known outside of Japan for starring in the 1998 horror film “Ring”, former full-time fashion model Matsushima truly made a name for herself domestically in 2002 by playing Matsu in the enormously popular NTV drama “Toshiie and Matsu”. In 2007, she proved herself to be a capable lead film actress with a poignant performance in Isshin Inudo’s “Bizan”.

Just Go With It, Jennifer... Don't be intimidated by the sight of younger model co-star Brooklyn Decker filming in her bikini

Working with a swimsuit model who is almost half your age can be pretty daunting for any woman.

So it's hardly a surprise to see that Jennifer Aniston left the sun worshipping to Brooklyn Decker, while she covered up.

The 41-year-old actress was on the set of her new film Just Go With It, which also stars Adam Sandler and Nicole Kidman, when she was pictured in a knee-length summer dress.

Meanwhile the Sports Illustrated cover model, and wife of tennis champion Andy Roddick, basked in the Hawaiian sun wearing a skimpy yellow bikini that accentuated her assets to the extreme.

Robert Pattinson: A South Africa GQ-tie

While it's possible Breaking Dawn may be filmed without Kellan Lutz or Ashley Greene, Twilight Saga fans can at least rest assured:

Robert Pattinson isn't going anywhere.

In fact, he'll soon be popping up everywhere, making the media rounds in anticipation of the June 30 Eclipse premiere. Look for Robert, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to appear on Oprah tomorrow.

But look no further to simply gawk at Pattinson. He covers the latest issue of South Africa GQ, as does this breaking news: BEIGE IS BACK.

Microsoft and Verizon say Kin's monthly pricing isn't crazy, when you think about it

Whatever you think about the Kin devices themselves, the one thing most folks can agree on is that their monthly pricing is more than a little out of step with their target audience -- except for Microsoft and Verizon, that is. Speaking to Computerworld, Microsoft senior product manager Greg Sullivan and Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney both raised the issue of the Kin's ability to backup to the cloud when defending the high monthly price ($30 for data on top of a standard phone plan), with Sullivan saying that once customers "realize the value of this, they'll realize it's a great deal." On another note, Sullivan also used some interesting language when discussing the possibility of app downloads for the Kin, saying that "over the longer term" Microsoft will be "merging" the Kin and Windows Phone 7 platforms and adding downloadable apps. Now, that's not a radical departure from what we've heard from Microsoft before, but "merge" is a curious choice of words, isn't it?

Samsung i5800 / i5801 (Galaxy 3?) with Android 2.1 leaked (video)

As we said a few weeks ago, the Samsung i5800 / i5801 is, indeed, an Android 2.1 smartphone, and the proof for this comes in the form of a video, which quickly previews the unannounced handset.

The new handset borrows a bit from the design of the Samsung Galaxy A (recently launched in Korea). Its features include Wi-Fi, 3G, 3.5mm headset jack, and MicroSD card support.

The display of Samsung i5800 / i5801 has either 240 x 480, or 320 x 480 pixels, and it could be AMOLED (the video shows it looking way better than the TFT display of the Galaxy Spica i5700).

LG's $100 Ally crashing Verizon stores on May 20th, pre-orders start tomorrow

We had a hunch that LG's Android 2.1-based Ally would see its first customers on May 20th, and Verizon Wireless has finally opened up and confirmed as much this morning. The Iron Man 2-infused smartphone -- which we spent some time with yesterday -- will be available in all VZW stores beginning May 20th, with pre-orders going live for phone and web customers tomorrow. We've already given you the rundown when it comes to specs (they're after the break for those with memories shorter than their shoelaces), but now we're able to confirm that it'll sell for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract. A well-specced Android smartphone for under a Benjamin? Not bad, LG.
